S&P Futures 7,659.75: Short 7,692 to 7,700 at Pivot R1

December S&P futures settled at 7,659.75, down 44.75 for a second lower settle. Levels, the 7,692 to 7,700 short and Monday's calendar.

At 7,714.25, Friday’s high in the December S&P 500 contract stopped 25.75 points short of the 7,740 to 7,748 short zone in our Friday outlook. The band never traded. Neither did the 7,764 stop. Two target prices did print inside the bar, 7,704 and 7,684, without the band ever being reached, so those prints carry no result. The contract settled at 7,659.75.

Friday extended the slide. December E-mini futures settled at 7,659.75, down 44.75 points or 0.58 percent, after a 65.75 point session from 7,648.50 to 7,714.25. Lower high, lower low, second lower settle. The high sat 84.50 points under Thursday’s 7,798.75 and the low 28.25 under Thursday’s 7,676.75. The settle was the lowest since the 7,623.00 of 09/16. The low was the lowest since the 7,617.50 of 09/17, and it is now the one-month low. The settle finished at 17.1 percent of the range, which ran 0.82 times the 14-day average daily range of 80.38 points. The S&P 500 cash index closed at 7,623.68, down 39.75 or 0.52 percent. A weekend now separates that settle from the Sunday 6:00 PM ET reopen.

At a glance

December S&P 500 futures settled at 7,659.75 on Friday. That sits beneath the 5-day, 9-day, 20-day, 50-day and 100-day settlement averages, from about 7,694 to about 7,778, and above only the 200-day at about 7,413. The primary setup for Monday is a short from 7,692 to 7,700 around Pivot R1 at 7,699.83. The stop is 7,718. It sits above Friday’s 7,714.25 high and the 7,716.75 source pair of the modeled gamma-flip level, and the targets are 7,674, 7,652 and an extended 7,630. The whole band sits above the settle, its bottom 32.25 points up. The first target also sits above the settle, by 14.25 points, and the second 7.75 beneath it. Per the desk note’s model levels, the 7,623.68 cash close sits 52.32 points beneath the 7,676 modeled gamma-flip level (ES pair 7,716.75), 126.32 beneath the 7,750 modeled volatility threshold (ES pair 7,790.75) and 23.68 above the 7,600 put-side support base (ES pair 7,640.75). In the review’s judgment the first-order influence for Monday is positioning ahead of the week’s Fed decision, data and results after a weekend of Gulf headlines.

Friday’s 7,714.25 high stopped 25.75 points beneath the 7,740 to 7,748 band

In Friday’s outlook we set a short from 7,740 to 7,748. Its stop sat at 7,764. The targets were 7,724, 7,704 and an extended 7,684. Friday’s completed bar, from the review and the dated 2026-10-23 row, opened at 7,706.25 at the Thursday 6:00 PM ET reopen, marked a high of 7,714.25 and a low of 7,648.50, and settled at 7,659.75. The band did not trade. The high stopped 25.75 points beneath the band bottom and 33.75 beneath its top. The open sat 33.75 beneath the bottom. The stop did not trade either; it sat 49.75 points above the high. No fill and no result is asserted.

Two target prices printed anyway. The second target, 7,704, sat 2.25 points beneath the 7,706.25 open and 10.25 beneath the high, and the low reached 55.50 beneath it. The extended 7,684 sat inside the bar as well, 35.50 above the low. The first target, 7,724, stayed 9.75 points above the high and never printed. Those prints came without the band. The card’s short began at 7,740, and Friday never got there. So the printed targets carry no result. No intraday series is available for Friday either. The daily bar fixes the open, the two extremes and the settle, and nothing between them, so it cannot say when 7,704 or 7,684 traded.

The invalidation line was never crossed. The card negated its thesis on a settle above two standard deviations resistance at 7,761.20, and the 7,659.75 settle finished 101.45 points beneath it. Its acceptance test, two consecutive 30-minute closes above 7,748, needs 30-minute bars. None exist for Friday. The bar still bounds the test. Every Friday price sat at or beneath the 7,714.25 high, 33.75 points under 7,748, so no 30-minute close above 7,748 could have printed.

The macro override named two legs. The first was a broad reversal in technology shares. The review records the Nasdaq-100 cash index essentially unchanged and the semiconductor index up 0.44 percent, against a 1.23 percent fall in the Dow industrials. The second leg was a de-escalation in the Gulf that lifts risk appetite. The review records no confirmed de-escalation; its Gulf items are statements carried by the news feed, set out below. The override’s scenario, a move through the 7,764 stop, never printed. Its references, three standard deviations resistance at 7,773.95 and Pivot R1 at 7,776.58, sat 59.70 and 62.33 points above the high.

Two of our three full-day ranges held. The mid-range case, 7,645 to 7,775, held with the low 3.50 points above its bottom. The high-range case, 7,605 to 7,800, held with 43.50 points to spare beneath and 85.75 above. The low-range case was the exception. At 7,665 to 7,745 it lost its bottom by 16.50 points, while its top held 30.75 above the high. The morning band of 7,645 to 7,775 and the afternoon band of 7,635 to 7,790 each contain the whole daily bar. Neither could have broken. The Globex band of 7,665 to 7,745 and the London band of 7,655 to 7,760 kept their tops. Their bottoms cannot be graded. The low sat 16.50 beneath the first and 6.50 beneath the second, and the daily bar cannot place it in a session.

The weighted path held its outer frame. Friday’s outlook expected a hold between Pivot S2 at 7,604.67 and Pivot R1 at 7,776.58, with a rebound toward the band that fails beneath two standard deviations resistance at 7,761.20 weighted slightly above a recovery. The low finished 43.83 points above S2 and the high 62.33 beneath R1. The rebound never reached the band. The named alternative, a move above Pivot R1 toward Thursday’s 7,798.75 high, did not print either. The low stopped 0.70 point above the old two standard deviations support at 7,647.80. We grade the card as written. The band never traded, the stop never traded, the first target never printed, and the settle finished 80.25 points beneath the band bottom.

Pivot R1 at 7,699.83, the 7,692 to 7,700 band and the 7,718 stop

The basis narrowed again. Friday’s 7,659.75 settle less the 7,623.68 cash close measures 36.07 points, against 41.07 on Thursday, and every cash equivalent in this article uses the new figure. The desk note keeps its own 40.75 point offset, so its published futures pairs differ: 8,140.75 for the 8,100 call-side ceiling, 8,040.75 for the 8,000 gamma concentration, 7,790.75 for the 7,750 modeled volatility threshold, 7,716.75 for the 7,676 modeled gamma-flip level and 7,640.75 for the 7,600 put-side support base.

Resistance starts 14.42 points up, at the Pivot Point of 7,674.17 (cash 7,638.10). Thursday’s 7,676.75 low (cash 7,640.68) sits 2.58 above it. Next comes the 7,686.07 conversion of the desk note’s 7,650 support. That conversion sits above the futures settle, so this article lists it with resistance. Then the band group. The 100-day average at about 7,694, the 14-3 day projection at 7,698.30 and Pivot R1 at 7,699.83 (cash 7,663.76) all sit inside the 7,692 to 7,700 band. Thursday’s 7,704.50 settle (cash 7,668.43), Friday’s 7,706.25 open and the 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week high at 7,706.74 sit 4.50 to 6.74 points above its top.

The stop group is tight. One standard deviation resistance at 7,712.60 (cash 7,676.53), Friday’s 7,714.25 high (cash 7,678.18), the 18-day stall projection at 7,715.50 and the 7,716.75 flip-level pair (cash 7,676) sit within 4.15 points. All four sit beneath the 7,718 stop, which clears the high by 3.75 and the pair by 1.25. Above it come the 7,726.07 conversion of the note’s 7,690 pivot and the 5-day average at about 7,731. Two standard deviations resistance at 7,734.50 (cash 7,698.43), the 7,736.07 conversion of the note’s 7,700 resistance, Pivot R2 at 7,739.92 (cash 7,703.85) and the 9-day crossing price for Monday at 7,739.97 follow. The one-range frame tops at 7,741.44, and the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low sits at 7,743.62.

The upper band is crowded. Three standard deviations resistance at 7,751.30 (cash 7,715.23), the 9-day average at about 7,753, the 7,756.07 conversion of the note’s 7,720 resistance, the 40-day crossing price at 7,759.94, the 50-day average at about 7,765 and Pivot R3 at 7,765.58 (cash 7,729.51) sit within 14.28 points. The 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 7,773.00, the 20-day average at about 7,778, the 7,786.07 conversion of the note’s 7,750 resistance, the 18-day crossing price at 7,786.10 and the 7,790.75 threshold pair (cash 7,750) close the near list.

The extended references sit higher. Thursday’s 7,798.75 high (cash 7,762.68), the 7,836.07 conversion of the note’s 7,800 resistance, the one-month high at 7,897.50 (cash 7,861.43) and the 52-week and 13-week high of 7,905.00 (cash 7,868.93) lead them. The last sits 245.25 points or 3.20 percent above the settle. The 8,040.75 concentration pair (cash 8,000) and the 8,140.75 ceiling pair (cash 8,100) complete the list.

Support starts 11.25 points down, at Friday’s 7,648.50 low (cash 7,612.43), now also the one-month low. The 50 percent retracement of the 13-week range at 7,645.50 sits 3.00 beneath it. Then come the 7,640.75 put-side pair (cash 7,600) and the 7,636.07 conversion of the same 7,600 level at the measured basis. The published target price at 7,634.33 (cash 7,598.26) and Pivot S1 at 7,634.08 (cash 7,598.01) sit 0.25 apart. The 09/16 settle of 7,623.00 (cash 7,586.93) and the 09/17 low of 7,617.50 (cash 7,581.43) come next. The 3-10 day crossover stall level at 7,612.39, Pivot S2 at 7,608.42 (cash 7,572.35) and one standard deviation support at 7,606.90 (cash 7,570.83) sit within 5.49 points.

The deeper band sits lower still. Two standard deviations support at 7,585.00 (cash 7,548.93) and the 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week low at 7,584.26 sit together, then the 7,578.06 bottom of the one-range frame. Pivot S3 at 7,568.33 (cash 7,532.26) and three standard deviations support at 7,568.20 (cash 7,532.13) sit 0.13 apart. The 7,486.07 conversion of the note’s 7,450 support, the 200-day average at about 7,413 and the 13-week low of 7,386.00 sit far beneath. The 52-week low is 6,466.00.

Five averages sit above the settle. Rounded once to whole points, the 5-day stands about 71 points over it, the 9-day about 93, the 20-day about 118, the 50-day about 105 and the 100-day about 35. Only the 200-day sits under it, about 246 points down. The 5-day fell about 9 points from Thursday’s 7,740 as the 10/16 settle of 7,704.25 left the window and 7,659.75 replaced it. The 20-day fell about 7 from 7,785 when the 09/25 settle of 7,803.75 dropped out. The 50-day fell about 5 from 7,770. The longer stack still rises. The 30 older settlements in the 50-day window averaged about 7,757, beneath the latest 20, which keeps the 20-day above the 50-day. Older windows sit lower. The 50 older settlements in the 100-day window averaged about 7,623, and the 100 older settlements in the 200-day window about 7,132. For Monday the averages would be crossed at 7,739.97 for the 9-day, 7,786.10 for the 18-day and 7,759.94 for the 40-day.

Momentum sits low in its range. On the provider’s published readings, taken at about 6:22 PM ET on Friday with no Globex session open, relative strength reads 35.74 on the 9-day, 40.55 on the 14-day and 43.81 on the 20-day. The raw stochastic reads 4.86 percent on the 9-day and 4.52 percent on the 14-day. The smoothed 14-day %K at 24.49 percent sits beneath %D at 33.27 percent. Negative direction leads on both windows. On the 9-day it reads 28.15 against 10.61 with the ADX at 26.45; on the 14-day, 26.39 against 12.90 with the ADX at 16.90. The 9-day ADX reads above the 14-day. Historic volatility reads 10.62 percent on the 9-day and 9.98 percent on the 14-day.

The composite multi-indicator read published for Monday is 40 percent sell, against a hold in the prior session’s snapshot, with signal strength described as soft and direction as average. It read hold a week ago and 56 percent buy a month ago. The short-horizon group averages 40 percent sell and the medium-horizon group 50 percent sell. The long-horizon group reads 33 percent sell. The trend indicator reads hold.

Ranges narrowed. The 14-day average true range stands at 81.69 points and the 14-day average daily range at 80.38. The 9-day figures are 83.83 and 90.94 and the 20-day figures 80.57 and 80.32. Friday’s 65.75 point range was 0.82 times the 14-day average daily range. One average true range either side of the settle frames Monday between 7,578.06 and 7,741.44. The deviation bands are tighter. They run 7,606.90 to 7,712.60 at one deviation, 7,585.00 to 7,734.50 at two and 7,568.20 to 7,751.30 at three. Built from five settlements, they describe settlement dispersion only. A weekend headline gap can open outside any of them. The desk note’s implied one-day move of 0.56 percent equals about 42.69 points on the 7,623.68 cash close.

Zoom out. Daily ranges over the last ten sessions ran 40.75, 29.50, 138.75, 84.50, 133.50, 96.25, 87.00, 61.25, 122.00 and 65.75 points. Settlement changes over the same stretch read minus 1.75, minus 2.25, minus 85.50, plus 20.75, minus 86.75, plus 30.25, plus 20.75, plus 45.00, minus 95.75 and minus 44.75. Two declines closed the week. Settlements ran 7,858.00, 7,855.75, 7,770.25, 7,791.00, 7,704.25, 7,734.50, 7,755.25, 7,800.25, 7,704.50 and 7,659.75. Over the week the contract lost 44.50 points or 0.58 percent from the 7,704.25 settle of 10/16. Friday’s bar left a 46.50 point body. Its upper shadow above the open measures 8.00 points and its lower shadow beneath the settle 11.25. The settle sits 11.25 above the low and 54.50 beneath the high. Session highs over six sessions read 7,809.50, 7,773.25, 7,791.50, 7,812.25, 7,798.75 and 7,714.25, and session lows 7,676.00, 7,677.00, 7,704.50, 7,751.00, 7,676.75 and 7,648.50. No four-hour series and no prior-quarter extremes were captured. Swing structure rests on daily bars. The 13-week high of 7,905.00 and the 13-week low of 7,386.00 are the outer quarterly references.

The Dow fell 1.23 percent while the Nasdaq-100 closed essentially unchanged

Friday’s bar carries no clock. It opened at 7,706.25 at the Thursday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 1.75 points above Thursday’s settle, and settled 46.50 points beneath that open. No intraday series exists for the session. The news items below keep their own times, and none is tied to a price move. One later print exists. The chart’s last 30-minute bar before the 5:00 PM ET halt closed at 7,672.50, a post-settlement quote. The settlement stays at 7,659.75, and no Globex session trades on a Friday evening.

The weakness spread. The Dow industrials fell 652.82 points or 1.23 percent and the NYSE composite 0.65 percent, against 0.52 percent for the S&P 500 cash index. The Nasdaq-100 cash index closed essentially unchanged and the semiconductor index rose 0.44 percent. The review reads Friday’s weakness as broader than Thursday’s technology-led decline. Then the note. The desk note said most S&P 500 shares declined as selling in technology shares continued, while energy and cybersecurity funds rose about 3 percent and memory shares bounced. No advance-decline figure was captured.

Gulf headlines ran through the day. At 11:06 AM ET the news feed carried a maritime security report of a tanker hit by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz near Oman. At 3:32 PM ET it carried an Iranian Revolutionary Guards statement that two tankers struck naval mines south of the Strait. At 3:36 PM ET it carried the President saying the US may do another operation against Iran. Other items ran alongside. At 9:18 AM ET the feed carried a localized Russia-Ukraine ceasefire around Oleshky. At 3:38 PM ET it carried a White House statement further modifying Canadian products subject to tariffs from October 30, after a press report at 1:48 PM ET that some tariffs on Canada were expected to be removed. These are statements carried by the news feed rather than events confirmed for this review. No causal link to the index is drawn.

Oil and yields rose together. December WTI settled at 103.27, up 3.82 percent, and Brent’s December contract at 116.72. The ten-year yield index rose to 4.99 percent from 4.95 percent and the thirty-year to 5.32 percent from 5.28 percent. The dollar index closed at 101.81, up 0.20 from 101.61. December gold settled at 4,007.9, down 1.29 percent. The desk note published after the close described oil-driven pressure on both stocks and bonds and risk-off sentiment ahead of next week’s Fed decision and megacap results. These items coincided with the session. No intraday series is available, so no move is attributed to any one of them.

Two US releases printed, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The flash purchasing managers’ composite printed 57.6 against a 57.6 forecast and 58.4 previously, with services at 57.9 and manufacturing at 56.0, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The final University of Michigan sentiment survey printed 48.0 against a 46.3 forecast, with one-year inflation expectations at 4.7 percent, also per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The desk note put the priced probability of an unchanged rate at the next meeting at 90 percent. The FOMC statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it. The press conference follows at 2:30 PM ET, as the calendar lists it.

Company news was thin. At 8:37 AM ET the news feed carried a card-payments company’s plan to cut about 5 percent of jobs. From 1:11 PM ET to 1:17 PM ET it carried remarks attributed by a press report to a social-media company’s chief AI officer on subscription revenue for its assistant, in place of advertising revenue. The large results come later. A search-advertising company and a software company report after the close on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, and an online retailer after the close on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them. The desk note described limited appetite for longer-dated positions ahead of these results.

Implied volatility edged up. The S&P 500 volatility index closed at 19.45 against 19.03 and the volatility-of-volatility index at 109.70 against 107.94. The Nasdaq-100 volatility index eased to 28.30 from 28.72. On its own print, the desk note recorded the volatility index reaching 20.66 before closing at 19.44, and the volatility-of-volatility index reaching 118.17 before closing at 109.70.

Activity fell back. Friday’s December volume was 1,744,080 contracts on the 2026-10-23 row, against 2,274,209 on the revised 2026-10-22 row, a drop of 530,129 or 23.3 percent. Our Friday outlook carried the preliminary 2,182,993 for Thursday. Thursday’s open interest now reads 1,942,244 on the revised 2026-10-22 row; that outlook said it was not yet reported. Friday’s open interest was not yet reported.

The weekly positioning report dated October 20, shown on the provider’s overview, puts leveraged-fund long positions at 135,034 contracts, up 13,630 on the week, and short positions at 506,279, down 23,851. That leaves a net short of 371,245 against 408,726 a week earlier. Asset-manager long positions fell 8,742 to 1,101,642 and asset-manager short positions rose 5,716 to 200,265. The news feed’s summary of the same report described equity fund speculators trimming their S&P 500 net short position by 42,221 contracts, to 348,674. The report predates Thursday’s and Friday’s declines.

The cash close sits beneath every model line. The desk note used is the 5:09 PM ET edition for Friday, read at 6:17 PM ET, and its reference prices are Thursday’s closes. Its 7,663 index reference equals Thursday’s 7,663.43 cash close, and its 28,958 Nasdaq-100 reference Thursday’s 28,958.69. Its narrative states a close of 7,624, down 0.5 percent. That is consistent with the provider’s 7,623.68 close, which this article uses; 7,663 less 0.5 percent gives 7,624.7, within the rounding of that percentage. The note also recorded a 63 basis point range for the cash index, which traded between 7,660.15 and 7,612.07.

Now the distances, in cash. The close sits 52.32 points beneath the 7,676 modeled gamma-flip level (ES pair 7,716.75) and 126.32 beneath the 7,750 modeled volatility threshold (ES pair 7,790.75). It sits 23.68 above the 7,600 put-side support base (ES pair 7,640.75) and 476.32 beneath the 8,100 call-side ceiling (ES pair 8,140.75). The largest gamma concentration sits at 8,000 (ES pair 8,040.75). In the desk note’s model, gamma tilt reads 0.839 and gamma notional minus 397.079 million dollars. The modeled threshold and flip level are model outputs; neither is an option strike.

The note draws its own map. Its summary lists resistance at 7,700, 7,720, 7,750 and 7,800, support at 7,650, 7,600 and 7,450 and a desk pivot at 7,690, with key strikes at 8,000, 7,000, 7,700 and 7,600, all in cash. The close sits 66.32 points beneath that desk pivot. The listed 7,650 support sits 26.32 above the close. At the measured basis the pivot converts to 7,726.07 and the 7,650 support to 7,686.07. Then the narrative. The note described index options flow dominated by same-day call selling. It read that selling as volatility selling ahead of the weekend. It did not read it as directional positioning, and it called single-stock flow mixed. It said fixed-strike implied volatility fell 1 to 3 vol points. In its account, at-the-money implied volatility stood near 10 percent for Monday and 12 percent for Tuesday, against 14 to 16 percent on and beyond the Fed decision. It said forward implied volatility near 20 percent, against current implied volatility of 14 percent, shows the options market pricing event risk around next week’s Fed decision and megacap results. Those characterisations are the note’s. The console data carry no trade side, and no directional read is drawn from them here.

The note’s implied one-day move is 0.56 percent, about 42.69 points on the 7,623.68 close. The implied five-day move is 1.15 percent. Its published implied one-day high and low of 7,664.73 and 7,579.37 are centred near 7,622.05, close to Friday’s 7,623.68 cash close, and are quoted as published. A same-day put-spread position the note tied to support during the session is excluded, because no intraday series is available to place it. The consoles add detail. The S&P 500 positioning console, read at about 6:23 PM ET with a page date of 2026-10-23, shows model call gamma of minus 3.17 billion against put gamma of minus 3.77 billion. It puts one-month implied volatility at 15.05 percent against realised volatility of 9.79 percent, the implied-volatility rank at 30.17 percent, the skew rank at 34.00 percent and the put-to-call open-interest ratio at 1.48. A second console follows. The console for the S&P 500 exchange-traded fund shows call gamma of minus 2.26 billion against put gamma of minus 4.43 billion, a skew rank of 49.60 percent and a put-to-call open-interest ratio of 2.07.

Two gamma measures appear here. The desk note’s gamma notional and the consoles’ gamma fields come from different models and timestamps. They are not reconciled here, and neither is summed with the other. The consoles’ live price fields and high and low volatility point fields were not used.

Damping is the question for Monday. In the review’s interpretation a cash close beneath the modeled gamma-flip level, the modeled volatility threshold and the desk pivot, with negative gamma notional, describes an environment where dealer hedging is less likely to dampen moves. That reading carries no direction of its own. The put-side support base at 7,600 sits 23.68 points beneath the close. The primary setup sells the 7,692 to 7,700 band. There the 7,686.07 conversion of the note’s 7,650 support sits just beneath and Pivot R1 sits inside, and the 7,718 stop clears the 7,716.75 source pair of the flip level.

The trade map for Monday

The primary setup is a short from 7,692 to 7,700. The settle sits beneath every settlement average from the 5-day to the 100-day, and negative direction leads on the 9-day and 14-day directional systems. The composite moved to 40 percent sell. The cash index closed beneath the modeled flip level, the modeled threshold and the desk pivot, with negative gamma notional. Now the band. It holds Pivot R1 at 7,699.83, 7.83 points above its bottom and 0.17 beneath its top, along with the 14-3 day projection at 7,698.30 and the 100-day average at about 7,694. The whole band sits above the settle. Its bottom sits 32.25 points up and 17.83 above the Pivot Point at 7,674.17. Then the stop. It sits at 7,718, 3.75 above Friday’s 7,714.25 high, 1.25 above the 7,716.75 flip-level pair and 2.50 above the 18-day stall projection at 7,715.50. Targets step down. The first, 7,674, sits 0.17 beneath the Pivot Point and still 14.25 above the settle. The second, 7,652, sits 7.75 beneath the settle and 3.50 above Friday’s 7,648.50 low. The extended 7,630 sits 4.08 beneath Pivot S1 at 7,634.08 and 17.61 above the 7,612.39 crossover stall level. The evidence against is plain. The oversold readings, the put-side support base 23.68 points beneath the cash close and two days of weekend headline exposure leave room for a gap or a rebound. The review calls the setup an analyst judgment that rallies are sold beneath the flip level. No measured edge stands behind it.

Primary setup for Monday
Direction
Short
Entry Zone
7,692 to 7,700 (cash 7,655.93 to 7,663.93), around Pivot R1 at 7,699.83, above the Pivot Point at 7,674.17 and the 7,686.07 conversion of the desk note’s 7,650 support
Stop Loss
7,718 (cash 7,681.93), above Friday’s 7,714.25 high and the 7,716.75 source pair of the flip level
Target 1
7,674 (cash 7,637.93), just beneath the Pivot Point at 7,674.17
Target 2
7,652 (cash 7,615.93), above Friday’s 7,648.50 low
Target 3 (extended)
7,630 (cash 7,593.93), beneath Pivot S1 at 7,634.08 and above the 7,612.39 crossover stall level
Risk-to-Reward
Approximately 1:1 to T1, 1:2 to T2 and 1:3 to T3, measured from the 7,696 midpoint of the entry zone against the 7,718 stop, a risk of 22 points
Invalidation
A settle above two standard deviations resistance at 7,734.50 negates the thesis. Short of that, the edge is removed by acceptance above the entry band, defined as two consecutive 30-minute closes above 7,700; a touch alone does not remove it
Macro override
A weekend de-escalation in the Gulf that pulls crude and yields lower, or a broad recovery ahead of next week’s results, would undercut the short. In that scenario a move through the 7,718 stop invalidates the setup before the targets, and two standard deviations resistance at 7,734.50 and Pivot R2 at 7,739.92 become the references, 16.50 and 21.92 points beyond the stop and inside one 14-day average true range of 81.69 points
Status at Friday’s settle
7,659.75, 32.25 points beneath the band bottom; no Globex session trades on Friday evening, and Globex reopens at 6:00 PM ET on Sunday

Now the arithmetic. From the 7,696 midpoint the risk to the stop is 22 points, 26.9 percent of the 14-day average true range of 81.69. The targets sit 22, 44 and 66 points beneath the midpoint. Exact multiples. The band sits wholly above the settle, its bottom 32.25 points up and its top 40.25. So the first target, 7,674, also sits above the settle, 14.25 points over it. Only the second and third sit beneath it. A one-range frame from the settle, 7,578.06 to 7,741.44, ends 23.44 points above the stop and reaches 51.94 beneath the extended target. The weekend matters here. Two days of headline exposure separate Friday’s settle from the Sunday reopen, and the review calls a gap in either direction a live risk.

The session bands are the review’s analyst judgment. Globex reopens at 6:00 PM ET on Sunday, October 25, 2026. Through the night session to 3:00 AM ET Monday the review expects roughly 7,630 to 7,705 absent a headline gap, with a bias lower beneath Pivot R1 at 7,699.83. Gaps cut both ways. One above Friday’s 7,714.25 high would put two standard deviations resistance at 7,734.50 and Pivot R2 at 7,739.92 in reach. One beneath the 7,648.50 low would expose Pivot S1 at 7,634.08 and the 7,636.07 conversion of the put-side support base. London, from 3:00 AM to 8:00 AM ET, runs roughly 7,620 to 7,712, neutral to lower. The review names Pivot S1 the first meaningful support beneath the 7,648.50 low; the 7,645.50 retracement and the 7,634.33 target price sit between them. It names Pivot R1 the first meaningful resistance above the Pivot Point; the 7,698.30 projection sits between them. The cash-session bands are wider. The morning band, 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM ET, runs roughly 7,606 to 7,735. One standard deviation support at 7,606.90 sits near its bottom and two standard deviations resistance at 7,734.50 near its top. The afternoon runs wider still. Its band, 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET, runs 7,585 to 7,740, its edges at two standard deviations support at 7,585.00 and Pivot R2 at 7,739.92. The scenario ranges, also analyst judgment, run 7,630 to 7,705 for the low-range case, 7,606 to 7,735 for the mid-range case, the most likely, and 7,578 to 7,741 for the high-range case.

Monday’s calendar is light. The German business climate survey is listed at 5:00 AM ET and the UK distributive trades survey at 7:00 AM ET, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. A telecommunications company’s results are listed at 7:00 AM ET, also per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The captured calendars carry no first-order US economic release for Monday morning. The US two-year note auction is listed at 1:00 PM ET and Japan’s services producer prices at 7:50 PM ET, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The calendar lists no Monday, October 26, 2026 entry of its own. Globex halts at 5:00 PM ET and reopens at 6:00 PM ET on Monday.

The week fills in after that. The FOMC meeting begins on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, and the advance durable goods report is set for 8:30 AM ET that day, as the calendar lists them. Wednesday carries the decision. The FOMC statement follows at 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, and the press conference at 2:30 PM ET, as the calendar lists them. Results from the search-advertising company and the software company come after that close, and from the online retailer after the close on Thursday, October 29, as the calendar lists them. Data comes the same morning. The advance estimate of third-quarter GDP and the September personal income and outlays report are set for 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them. One Friday item came after the close. At 4:48 PM ET the news feed carried a rating agency statement that France’s rating remains Aa3. In the review’s judgment the first-order influence for the S&P 500 on Monday is positioning ahead of that grouping after a weekend of Gulf headlines, with no first-order scheduled release on the captured calendars for the day.

One path is weighted. In the review’s analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between Pivot S2 at 7,608.42 and Pivot R2 at 7,739.92. In the same judgment, a rebound toward the 7,692 to 7,700 band that fails beneath Friday’s 7,714.25 high is weighted slightly above a recovery. It rests on judgment. The review weighs it that way because the settle sits beneath every settlement average from the 5-day to the 100-day and negative direction leads on both directional systems. The composite moved to 40 percent sell from a hold, and the cash index closed beneath the modeled flip level, the modeled threshold and the desk pivot. One alternative is named. A recovery as at-the-money implied volatility stays low into Tuesday, or a weekend de-escalation that pulls crude and yields lower, could carry the contract back above the 7,716.75 source pair of the flip level toward two standard deviations resistance at 7,734.50, and would invalidate the reading. The review names the counterweights. The 14-day raw stochastic at 4.52 percent describes an oversold market, and the put-side support base at 7,600 sits only 23.68 points beneath the cash close, so a rebound before any extension is a live alternative.

Friday’s high stopped 25.75 points short of the old band; Monday’s band starts 32.25 points above the settle, with Pivot R1 inside it.

1. Executive Summary

The December S&P 500 contract settled at 7,659.75 on Friday, down 44.75 or 0.58 percent from Thursday's settle of 7,704.50, after trading between 7,714.25 and 7,648.50, a 65.75 point daily range. The settle finished at 17.1 percent of the range, and the 65.75 point range was 0.82 times the published 14-day average daily range of 80.38 points. Friday printed a lower high and a lower low against Thursday and made a second consecutive lower settle. The settle was the lowest since the 7,623.00 settle of 09/16, and the 7,648.50 low was the lowest since the 7,617.50 low of 09/17 and is now the provider's published one-month low.

The S&P 500 cash index closed at 7,623.68, down 39.75 or 0.52 percent, after trading between 7,660.15 and 7,612.07, which leaves the December contract 36.07 points above cash against 41.07 on Thursday. Over the week the contract lost 44.50 points or 0.58 percent from the 7,704.25 settle of 10/16. The Dow industrials fell 1.23 percent and the NYSE composite 0.65 percent, while the Nasdaq-100 cash index closed essentially unchanged and the semiconductor index rose 0.44 percent.

December WTI settled at 103.27, up 3.82 percent, and Brent's December contract at 116.72, the ten-year yield index rose to 4.99 percent from 4.95 percent and the dollar index to 101.81 from 101.61. The desk note published after the close described oil-driven pressure on both stocks and bonds and risk-off sentiment ahead of next week's Fed decision and megacap results. These items coincided with the session; no intraday series is available, so no move is attributed to any one of them.

The settle sits beneath the 5-day, 9-day, 20-day, 50-day and 100-day settlement averages and above the 200-day, negative direction leads on both directional systems, and the composite multi-indicator read is 40 percent sell against a hold a session earlier. The cash index closed beneath the modeled gamma-flip level, the modeled volatility threshold and the desk pivot published with the desk note, and 23.68 points above the put side support base. The published 14-day average true range is 81.69 points. The primary setup is a short from the 7,692 to 7,700 band around Pivot R1 at 7,699.83, stopped at 7,718 above Friday's 7,714.25 high, with objectives at 7,674, 7,652 and an extended 7,630. A weekend separates Friday's settle from the Sunday reopen, and two days of headline exposure make a gap in either direction a live risk.

2. Price Action & Technical Structure

2.1 Intraday and Session Review

The Friday session opened at 7,706.25 at the Thursday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 1.75 points above Thursday's settle, marked a daily high of 7,714.25 and a daily low of 7,648.50, and settled at 7,659.75. No intraday series is available for this session, so this review does not describe the order in which the high and the low printed, and no timed price path is asserted; the daily bar alone fixes the open, the extremes and the settle.

This review records only that the 7,714.25 high and the 7,648.50 low both belong to Friday's completed session and that the settle sits 11.25 points above the low and 54.50 points beneath the high. The desk note recorded a 63 basis point range for the cash index and a close of 7,624, consistent with the provider's 7,623.68 close.

No Globex session is open on a Friday evening, so the open, high and low shown on the provider's overview page, 7,706.25, 7,714.25 and 7,648.50, belong to Friday's completed session and match the settlement row. The chart's 30-minute bars after the cash close show electronic trade until the 5:00 PM ET halt, with a last 30-minute bar closing at 7,672.50, all of them post-settlement quotes, not settlements, and they do not form an intraday series.

Friday's completed-session extremes are also the completed-session inputs behind the published pivot ladder rather than an independently read bar. Pivot R3 at 7,765.58 minus Pivot S3 at 7,568.33, divided by three, returns 65.75, and Pivot R2 at 7,739.92 minus Pivot S2 at 7,608.42, divided by two, returns the same 65.75. Three times the Pivot Point of 7,674.17 less the 7,659.75 settle gives a high plus low sum of 15,362.76, which the pair of 7,714.25 and 7,648.50 reproduces to the published rounding at 15,362.75, and that pair reproduces all seven published rungs.

The provider's settlement row and the chart's completed daily bar carry the same 7,706.25 open, 7,714.25 high, 7,648.50 low and 7,659.75 settle, and the provider's one-month low reads 7,648.50, equal to Friday's low.

2.2 Daily Structure

Friday's 7,714.25 high sits 84.50 points beneath Thursday's 7,798.75, and the 7,648.50 low sits 28.25 points beneath Thursday's 7,676.75, so the session printed a lower high and a lower low. The settle beneath the 7,706.25 open leaves a body of 46.50 points, an upper shadow of 8.00 points above the open and a lower shadow of 11.25 points beneath the settle.

Settlements over the last ten sessions ran 7,858.00, 7,855.75, 7,770.25, 7,791.00, 7,704.25, 7,734.50, 7,755.25, 7,800.25 and 7,704.50 before Friday's 7,659.75, so Friday made a second consecutive lower settle and the lowest settle since the 7,623.00 settle of 09/16. The sequence of session highs over the last six sessions reads 7,809.50, 7,773.25, 7,791.50, 7,812.25, 7,798.75 and 7,714.25, and the sequence of session lows reads 7,676.00, 7,677.00, 7,704.50, 7,751.00, 7,676.75 and 7,648.50.

The one-month low now sits at Friday's 7,648.50 and the 13-week low at 7,386.00. The 52-week and 13-week highs sit at 7,905.00 and the one-month high at 7,897.50, with the 52-week low at 6,466.00. No prior-quarter high or low was captured for this session, so the 13-week extremes serve as the available quarterly reference.

2.3 4-Hour and Swing Structure

Daily ranges for the last ten sessions ran 40.75, 29.50, 138.75, 84.50, 133.50, 96.25, 87.00, 61.25, 122.00 and 65.75. The settlement changes over the same ten sessions read minus 1.75, minus 2.25, minus 85.50, plus 20.75, minus 86.75, plus 30.25, plus 20.75, plus 45.00, minus 95.75 and minus 44.75.

The retracement grid published for Monday places the 50 percent retracement of the 13-week range at 7,645.50, 14.25 points beneath the settle, and the 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week low at 7,584.26. Above, the 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week high sits at 7,706.74, the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 7,743.62 and the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 7,773.00. No four-hour series was captured for this session, so swing structure here rests on daily bars only.

2.4 Moving Averages

The averages cited in this subsection were computed from the provider's daily settlement series for the December contract, which holds 260 completed sessions through Friday; no partial row was present because no Globex session is open on a Friday evening. Rounded once to whole points, the 5-day average stands at about 7,731, the 9-day at about 7,753, the 20-day at about 7,778, the 50-day at about 7,765, the 100-day at about 7,694 and the 200-day at about 7,413.

The 7,659.75 settle sits about 71 points beneath the 5-day average, about 93 points beneath the 9-day, about 118 points beneath the 20-day, about 105 points beneath the 50-day and about 35 points beneath the 100-day, and about 246 points above the 200-day. The 5-day average fell about 9 points from Thursday's 7,740, because the 10/16 settle of 7,704.25 left the window and was replaced by 7,659.75. The 20-day fell about 7 points from 7,785, because the 09/25 settle of 7,803.75 left that window, and the 50-day fell about 5 points from 7,770.

The 20-day average sits above the 50-day because the last 20 settlements averaged more than the full 50, which means the 30 older settlements in the 50-day window averaged lower, at about 7,757. The 50-day sits above the 100-day because the 50 older settlements in the 100-day window averaged lower, at about 7,623, and the 100-day sits above the 200-day because the 100 older settlements in the 200-day window averaged lower, at about 7,132. The projection grid gives the prices at which each average would be crossed on Monday: 7,739.97 for the 9-day, 7,786.10 for the 18-day and 7,759.94 for the 40-day.

2.5 Oscillator and Trend Readings

The oscillator figures below are as published on the provider's technical page, read at about 6:22 PM ET on Friday with no Globex session open, so they reflect the Friday settle; they are the provider's published readings, and none was computed for this review. As published, the 9-day relative strength reads 35.74, the 14-day relative strength 40.55 and the 20-day relative strength 43.81.

The 9-day raw stochastic reads 4.86 percent and the 14-day raw stochastic 4.52 percent, while the 14-day stochastic %K reads 24.49 percent and the 14-day stochastic %D 33.27 percent, so %K sits beneath %D in the lower part of the range.

The 9-day directional index ADX reads 26.45 with the 9-day +DI at 10.61 and the 9-day -DI at 28.15; the 14-day directional index ADX reads 16.90 with the 14-day +DI at 12.90 and the 14-day -DI at 26.39, so negative direction leads on both and the 9-day ADX reads above the 14-day. The 9-day historic volatility reads 10.62 percent and the 14-day historic volatility 9.98 percent.

The composite multi-indicator read published for the Monday session is 40 percent sell, against the prior session's snapshot of hold, with signal strength described as soft and direction as average. The snapshot history reads hold a week ago and 56 percent buy a month ago. The short-horizon group averages 40 percent sell, the medium-horizon group 50 percent sell and the long-horizon group 33 percent sell, and the composite trend indicator reads hold.

2.6 Volatility and Expected Range

The published 14-day average true range stands at 81.69 points and the 14-day average daily range at 80.38 points; the 9-day average true range is 83.83 with a 9-day average daily range of 90.94, and the 20-day average true range is 80.57 with a 20-day average daily range of 80.32. Friday's 65.75 point range was 0.82 times the 14-day average daily range.

Adding and subtracting the 14-day average true range of 81.69 points from the 7,659.75 settle frames Monday between 7,578.06 and 7,741.44. The published standard-deviation bands are built from five settlements: one deviation spans 7,606.90 to 7,712.60, two spans 7,585.00 to 7,734.50 and three spans 7,568.20 to 7,751.30. These bands describe settlement dispersion, not intraday reach, and a weekend headline gap can open outside any of them.

3. Key Levels

3.1 Resistance

Above the 7,659.75 settle, the first overhead reference is the Pivot Point at 7,674.17, followed by the 14-3 day projection at 7,698.30 and Pivot R1 at 7,699.83. Thursday's 7,704.50 settle, the 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week high at 7,706.74, one standard deviation resistance at 7,712.60 and Friday's 7,714.25 high form the next band, with the 18-day stall projection at 7,715.50 just above. Two standard deviations resistance at 7,734.50, Pivot R2 at 7,739.92, the 9-day average crossing price at 7,739.97 and the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 7,743.62 come next, with three standard deviations resistance at 7,751.30 and Pivot R3 at 7,765.58 the extended references.

3.2 Support

Beneath the settle sits Friday's 7,648.50 low, which is also the one-month low, then the 50 percent retracement of the 13-week range at 7,645.50, the published target price at 7,634.33 and Pivot S1 at 7,634.08. The 09/16 settle of 7,623.00, the 3-10 day crossover stall level at 7,612.39, Pivot S2 at 7,608.42 and one standard deviation support at 7,606.90 form the next band. Two standard deviations support at 7,585.00, the 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week low at 7,584.26, Pivot S3 at 7,568.33 and three standard deviations support at 7,568.20 form the extended band.

4. Macro Drivers

4.1 Dollar, Rates, and Fed Policy

The dollar index closed at 101.81, up 0.20 from Thursday's 101.61, and the ten-year yield index rose to 4.99 percent from 4.95 percent, with the thirty-year at 5.32 percent from 5.28 percent. The US flash purchasing managers' composite printed 57.6 against a 57.6 forecast and 58.4 previously, and the final University of Michigan sentiment survey printed 48.0 against a 46.3 forecast with one-year inflation expectations at 4.7 percent, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed.

The desk note put the priced probability of an unchanged rate at the next meeting at 90 percent. The FOMC statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, followed by the press conference at 2:30 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it.

4.2 Large-Cap Leadership and Earnings

The news feed carried at 8:37 AM ET a card-payments company's plan to cut about 5 percent of jobs, and at 1:11 PM ET to 1:17 PM ET remarks attributed by a press report to a social-media company's chief AI officer on subscription rather than advertising revenue for its assistant. Results from a search-advertising company are scheduled after the close on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists them, results from a software company after the close on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists them, and results from an online retailer after the close on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them. The desk note described limited appetite for longer-dated positions ahead of these results.

4.3 Geopolitical Backdrop

The news feed carried at 11:06 AM ET a maritime security report of a tanker hit by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz near Oman, at 3:32 PM ET an Iranian Revolutionary Guards statement that two tankers struck naval mines south of the Strait, and at 3:36 PM ET the President saying the US may do another operation against Iran. It also carried at 9:18 AM ET a localized Russia-Ukraine ceasefire around Oleshky, and at 3:38 PM ET a White House statement further modifying Canadian products subject to tariffs from October 30, after a press report at 1:48 PM ET that some tariffs on Canada were expected to be removed. These are statements carried by the news feed rather than events confirmed for this review.

4.4 Sector Breadth and Rotation

The desk note said most S&P 500 shares declined as selling in technology shares continued, while energy and cybersecurity funds rose about 3 percent and memory shares bounced. The Dow industrials fell 652.82 points or 1.23 percent and the NYSE composite 0.65 percent, while the Nasdaq-100 cash index closed essentially unchanged and the semiconductor index rose 0.44 percent, so Friday's weakness was broader than Thursday's technology-led decline. No advance-decline figure was captured for this session.

4.5 Cross-Asset and Volatility

December WTI settled at 103.27, up 3.82 percent, and December gold at 4,007.9, down 1.29 percent. The S&P 500 volatility index closed at 19.45 against 19.03, the Nasdaq-100 volatility index at 28.30 against 28.72 and the volatility-of-volatility index at 109.70 against 107.94. The desk note recorded the volatility index reaching 20.66 before closing at 19.44 and the volatility-of-volatility index reaching 118.17 before closing at 109.70, on its own print.

The basis, measured as the December settle less the provider's S&P 500 cash close, is 36.07 points against 41.07 on Thursday: 7,659.75 less 7,623.68, both from the provider's daily records for Friday's completed session. Every cash equivalent in this article uses that 36.07 point basis.

4.6 Institutional Positioning

The weekly positioning report dated October 20, shown on the provider's overview, puts leveraged-fund long positions at 135,034 contracts, up 13,630 on the week, and leveraged-fund short positions at 506,279, down 23,851, for a net short of 371,245 against 408,726 a week earlier. Asset-manager long positions fell 8,742 to 1,101,642 and asset-manager short positions rose 5,716 to 200,265. The news feed's summary of the same report described equity fund speculators trimming their S&P 500 net short position by 42,221 contracts, to 348,674. The report predates Thursday's and Friday's declines.

Open interest on the December contract is shown at 1,942,244 for Thursday in the provider's record, and Friday's open interest had not been reported at the time of capture; Friday's December volume was 1,744,080 contracts against 2,274,209 on Thursday.

5. SPX Options Flow Context

The desk note used for this section is the 5:09 PM ET edition for Friday, read at 6:17 PM ET. Its reference prices are the prior session's closes, not Friday's: SPX 7,663 equals Thursday's 7,663.43 cash close and NDX 28,958 equals Thursday's 28,958.69. The note's narrative states a close of 7,624, down 0.5 percent, consistent with the provider's 7,623.68 close, and 7,663 less the stated 0.5 percent gives 7,624.7, within the rounding of that percentage; every level below is read against the provider's close.

On the index the primary call side ceiling sits at SPX 8,100, the largest gamma concentration at SPX 8,000, the modeled volatility threshold at SPX 7,750, the modeled gamma-flip level at SPX 7,676 and the primary put side support base at SPX 7,600. The close sits 476.32 points beneath the ceiling, 126.32 points beneath the threshold, 52.32 points beneath the flip level and 23.68 points above the put side base. Gamma tilt reads 0.839 and gamma notional minus 397.079 million dollars. The note's summary lists resistance at 7,700, 7,720, 7,750 and 7,800, support at 7,650, 7,600 and 7,450 and its desk pivot at 7,690, 66.32 points above the close, and its key strikes are SPX 8,000, 7,000, 7,700 and 7,600.

The note publishes its own December futures pair for each level, carrying the source's 40.75 point offset rather than the measured 36.07 point basis: the ceiling at 8,140.75, the largest concentration at 8,040.75, the modeled volatility threshold at 7,790.75, the modeled gamma-flip level at 7,716.75 and the put side support base at 7,640.75. These are quoted as the source's pairs. The modeled threshold and flip level are model outputs, not option strikes. At the measured basis the desk pivot of SPX 7,690 converts to 7,726.07 and the SPX 7,650 support to 7,686.07.

The narrative described index options flow dominated by same-day call selling, which the note read as volatility selling ahead of the weekend rather than directional positioning, with single-stock flow mixed. It said fixed-strike implied volatility fell 1 to 3 vol points, that at-the-money implied volatility stood near 10 percent for Monday and 12 percent for Tuesday against 14 to 16 percent on and beyond the Fed decision, and that forward implied volatility near 20 percent against current implied volatility of 14 percent shows the options market pricing event risk around next week's Fed decision and megacap results. A same-day put-spread position the note tied to support during the session is excluded, because no intraday series is available to place it.

The note's implied one-day move is 0.56 percent and its implied five-day move 1.15 percent. Its published implied one-day high and low of 7,664.73 and 7,579.37 are centred near 7,622.05, close to Friday's 7,623.68 cash close, and are quoted as published.

The S&P 500 positioning console, read at about 6:23 PM ET with a page date of 2026-10-23, shows call gamma of minus 3.17 billion against put gamma of minus 3.77 billion, one-month implied volatility of 15.05 percent against realised volatility of 9.79 percent, an implied-volatility rank of 30.17 percent, a skew rank of 34.00 percent and a put-to-call open-interest ratio of 1.48. The console for the S&P 500 exchange-traded fund shows call gamma of minus 2.26 billion against put gamma of minus 4.43 billion, a skew rank of 49.60 percent and a put-to-call open-interest ratio of 2.07. The consoles' live price fields and their high and low volatility point fields are treated as low-confidence and excluded.

In this review's interpretation a cash close beneath the modeled gamma-flip level, the modeled volatility threshold and the desk pivot, with negative gamma notional, describes an environment where dealer hedging is less likely to dampen moves, while the put side support base at SPX 7,600 sits 23.68 points beneath the close. The primary setup sells the 7,692 to 7,700 band, where the 7,686.07 conversion of the note's 7,650 support sits just beneath and Pivot R1 sits inside, and the 7,718 stop clears the 7,716.75 source pair of the flip level.

6. Forecast

6.1 Night Session (6:00 PM ET Sunday to 3:00 AM ET Monday, Globex/Asia)

Globex reopens at 6:00 PM ET on Sunday, October 25, 2026 after two days of weekend headline exposure that separate Friday's settle from the open. A gap above Friday's 7,714.25 high would put two standard deviations resistance at 7,734.50 and Pivot R2 at 7,739.92 in reach, and a gap beneath Friday's 7,648.50 low would expose Pivot S1 at 7,634.08 and the 7,636.07 conversion of the put side support base. Bias lower beneath Pivot R1 at 7,699.83, expected band roughly 7,630 to 7,705 absent a headline gap.

6.2 London Session (3:00 AM to 8:00 AM ET Monday)

The German business climate survey is listed at 5:00 AM ET and the UK distributive trades survey at 7:00 AM ET on Monday, October 26, 2026, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Bias neutral to lower, expected band roughly 7,620 to 7,712, with Pivot S1 at 7,634.08 the first meaningful support beneath the 7,648.50 low and Pivot R1 at 7,699.83 the first meaningful resistance above the Pivot Point at 7,674.17.

6.3 Morning Session (9:30 AM to 12:00 PM ET Monday, RTH Open)

A telecommunications company's results are listed at 7:00 AM ET on Monday, October 26, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, and the cash open at 9:30 AM ET sets the session's first directional test. The captured calendars carry no first-order US economic release for Monday morning. Expected band roughly 7,606 to 7,735, with one standard deviation support at 7,606.90 beneath and two standard deviations resistance at 7,734.50 above.

6.4 Afternoon Session (12:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET Monday)

The US two-year note auction is listed at 1:00 PM ET on Monday, October 26, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, and the cash close follows at 4:00 PM ET. Expected band roughly 7,585 to 7,740, with the outer edges at two standard deviations support at 7,585.00 and Pivot R2 at 7,739.92.

6.5 Night Session Forward (6:00 PM ET Monday)

Globex reopens at 6:00 PM ET on Monday after the 5:00 PM ET halt, and Japan's services producer prices are listed at 7:50 PM ET on Monday, October 26, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The FOMC statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, with results from the search-advertising company and the software company after the close on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists them, so the forward window carries the week's first-order events.

6.6 Expected Range (Monday Full Session)

Low-range scenario: 7,630 to 7,705

Mid-range scenario (most likely): 7,606 to 7,735

High-range scenario: 7,578 to 7,741

6.7 Most Likely Path

In this review's analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between Pivot S2 at 7,608.42 and Pivot R2 at 7,739.92, with a rebound toward the 7,692 to 7,700 band that fails beneath Friday's 7,714.25 high weighted slightly above a recovery. The settle sits beneath every settlement average from the 5-day to the 100-day, negative direction leads on both directional systems, the composite moved to 40 percent sell from a hold, and the cash index closed beneath the modeled flip level, the modeled threshold and the desk pivot.

The alternative that would invalidate this reading is a recovery as at-the-money implied volatility stays low into Tuesday, or a weekend de-escalation that pulls crude and yields lower, either of which could carry the contract back above the 7,716.75 source pair of the flip level toward two standard deviations resistance at 7,734.50. The 14-day raw stochastic at 4.52 percent describes an oversold market, and the put side support base at SPX 7,600 sits only 23.68 points beneath the cash close, so a rebound before any extension is a live alternative.

7. Monday Economic Calendar

Friday's releases are complete. The US flash purchasing managers' surveys printed a composite of 57.6, services at 57.9 and manufacturing at 56.0, and the final University of Michigan sentiment survey printed 48.0 with one-year inflation expectations at 4.7 percent, all per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The news feed carried at 4:48 PM ET a rating agency statement that France's rating remains Aa3.

On Monday, October 26, 2026 the German business climate survey is listed at 5:00 AM ET, the UK distributive trades survey at 7:00 AM ET and a telecommunications company's results at 7:00 AM ET, all per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The US two-year note auction is listed at 1:00 PM ET and Japan's services producer prices at 7:50 PM ET, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The calendar contains no Monday, October 26, 2026 entry.

Later in the week, the FOMC meeting begins on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as the calendar lists it, the advance durable goods report is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as the calendar lists it, the FOMC statement for 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the advance estimate of third-quarter GDP and the September personal income and outlays report for 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them. In this review's judgment the first-order influence for the S&P 500 on Monday is positioning ahead of that grouping after a weekend of Gulf headlines, with no first-order scheduled release on the captured calendars for the day.

8. Primary Trade Setup

Direction: Short

Rationale: The settle sits beneath every settlement average from the 5-day to the 100-day, negative direction leads on the 9-day and 14-day directional systems, the composite moved to 40 percent sell, and the cash index closed beneath the modeled flip level, the modeled threshold and the desk pivot with negative gamma notional. A rebound into the 7,692 to 7,700 band around Pivot R1 at 7,699.83 offers a short with a defined risk point above Friday's 7,714.25 high and the 7,716.75 source pair of the flip level. The oversold readings, the put side support base 23.68 points beneath the cash close and two days of weekend headline exposure leave room for a gap or a rebound, so the setup is an analyst judgment that rallies are sold beneath the flip level, not a measured edge.

Entry Zone: 7,692 to 7,700

Stop Loss: 7,718 (above Friday's 7,714.25 high and the 7,716.75 source pair of the flip level)

Target 1 (T1): 7,674 (just beneath the Pivot Point at 7,674.17)

Target 2 (T2): 7,652 (above Friday's 7,648.50 low)

Target 3 (T3, extended): 7,630 (beneath Pivot S1 at 7,634.08 and above the 7,612.39 crossover stall level)

Risk-to-Reward: Approximately 1:1 to T1, 1:2 to T2, 1:3 to T3

Invalidation: A settle above two standard deviations resistance at 7,734.50 negates the thesis. Short of that, the edge is removed by acceptance above the entry band rather than by a touch, defined as two consecutive 30-minute closes above 7,700.

Macro override: A weekend de-escalation in the Gulf that pulls crude and yields lower, or a broad recovery ahead of next week's results, would undercut the short. In that scenario a move through the 7,718 stop invalidates the setup before the targets, and two standard deviations resistance at 7,734.50 and Pivot R2 at 7,739.92 become the references, 16.50 and 21.92 points beyond the stop and inside one 14-day average true range of 81.69 points.

Sources and methodology

This outlook is built from our session review of the December E-mini S&P 500 contract, the December ’26 contract, prepared after Friday’s close on October 23, 2026 for the Monday, October 26, 2026 session. Friday’s completed extremes are the inputs behind the published pivot ladder: Pivot R3 at 7,765.58 less Pivot S3 at 7,568.33, divided by three, and Pivot R2 at 7,739.92 less Pivot S2 at 7,608.42, divided by two, both return 65.75, and three times the 7,674.17 Pivot Point less the settle gives a high-plus-low sum of 15,362.76, which the pair of 7,714.25 and 7,648.50 reproduces to the published rounding at 15,362.75. The provider’s settlement row and the chart’s completed Friday daily bar carry the same open, high, low and settle, and the provider’s one-month low equals Friday’s low. Those figures and the review’s own statements are the only evidence used to grade Friday’s card. No intraday series is available for Friday, so no order of events within the session is stated. Thursday’s volume now reads 2,274,209 contracts on the revised 2026-10-22 row, which replaces the preliminary 2,182,993 carried in Friday’s outlook, and that row’s open interest now reads 1,942,244; that post was not changed. Friday’s open interest was not yet reported. The chart’s 30-minute bars after the cash close, the last closing at 7,672.50 before the 5:00 PM ET halt, are post-settlement quotes and are not used as Friday’s settle.

The moving averages were computed from the provider’s 260-session daily settlement series through Friday and are carried rounded once to whole points; the oscillators are cited as published, read at about 6:22 PM ET on Friday with no Globex session open, so they reflect the Friday settle. The desk note used is the 5:09 PM ET edition for Friday, October 23; its reference column carries Thursday’s closes and its futures column a fixed 40.75 point translation, so cash equivalents here use the 36.07 point basis measured on Friday, settlement against cash close. The note’s implied one-day high and low pair is centred near the close and is quoted as published, and a same-day put-spread position the note ties to the session is excluded because no intraday series is available to place it. The desk note’s gamma notional and the consoles’ call and put gamma are separate model measures from different timestamps; they are shown side by side, each with its source, and never combined. The consoles’ live price and high and low volatility point fields are not used. The weekly positioning report is dated October 20. Scenario ranges are analyst judgment. Items marked unconfirmed come from the news-feed calendar, and every catalyst whose release time had passed at the time of writing is recorded as completed.

Friday’s outlook for this contract is here, and the Nasdaq-100 contract’s Friday outlook set the levels for the index whose cash close was essentially unchanged on Friday.
