S&P Futures 7,754.25: Short 7,742 to 7,750 at the Pivot

December S&P futures settled at 7,754.25, down 29.00 with a lower high and lower low. Levels, the 7,742 to 7,750 short and Friday's calendar.

At 7,709.50, Thursday’s low in the December S&P 500 contract sat 26.50 points beneath the bottom of the 7,736 to 7,744 long zone in our Thursday outlook. It sat 12.50 beneath the 7,722 stop as well. Both prices traded. The first target, 7,758, also sat inside the day’s range, and the open alone stood 9.75 above it. The daily bar cannot show which of those prices came first. No fill and no result is asserted. The contract settled at 7,754.25.

Thursday ended a run of three higher settles. December E-mini futures settled at 7,754.25, down 29.00 points or 0.37 percent, after a 64.25 point session from 7,709.50 to 7,773.75. Lower high, lower low. It was the largest one-day decline since the 44.75 of 10/23. The settle finished at 69.6 percent of the range, above its midpoint. The S&P 500 cash index closed at 7,720.39, down 23.59 or 0.30 percent, and the Nasdaq-100 cash index fell 1.38 percent. The news feed carried at 9:33 AM ET an item that a search-advertising company’s shares fell 13 percent after its results. After the close, results from an online retailer and a chipmaker came out, as the calendar lists them. The news feed headlined both as disappointing at 4:14 PM ET.

At a glance

December S&P 500 futures settled at 7,754.25 on Thursday. That is above the 5-day, 9-day, 100-day and 200-day settlement averages and beneath the 20-day and 50-day. Friday’s setup flips to a short from 7,742 to 7,750, a band around the Pivot Point at 7,745.83 that sits wholly beneath the settle, its top 4.25 points down. The stop is 7,764, 9.75 above the settle and 4.89 beneath the published target price at 7,768.89. The targets are 7,728, 7,710 and an extended 7,692, all beneath the settle. Per the dataset’s model levels, the 7,720.39 cash close sits 29.61 points beneath the 7,750 modeled volatility threshold (ES 7,783.86 at the measured basis) and 21.39 above the 7,699 modeled gamma-flip level (ES 7,732.86), with gamma notional positive. In the review’s judgment the first-order event on Friday is the cash-session reaction at the 9:30 AM ET open to Thursday’s after-hours results, with the 8:30 AM ET employment cost index the first scheduled release, as the calendar lists it.

Thursday’s 7,709.50 low ran through the 7,736 to 7,744 band and the 7,722 stop

In Thursday’s outlook we set a long from 7,736 to 7,744. Its stop sat at 7,722. The targets were 7,758, 7,776 and an extended 7,794. Thursday’s completed bar, from the review and the dated 2026-10-29 row, opened at 7,767.75 at the Wednesday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 23.75 points above the band top. It marked a high of 7,773.75 and a low of 7,709.50, and settled at 7,754.25. The whole band lies inside that bar. The low sat 26.50 beneath its bottom.

The stop traded too. The low sat 12.50 points beneath 7,722. The first target printed inside the bar. The open sat 9.75 above 7,758 and the high 15.75 above it, while the settle finished 3.75 beneath it. The second target missed. The high stopped 2.25 short of 7,776, and 20.25 short of the extended 7,794. No intraday series is available for Thursday. The daily bar fixes the open, the two extremes and the settle, and nothing between them. It cannot say whether the band traded before the stop, or whether 7,758 printed after any print in the band. No fill and no result is asserted.

The invalidation tests read in two parts. The card negated its thesis on a settle beneath Pivot S2 at 7,715.08. The settle finished 39.17 points above that line, so the settle test was not met. The low did sit 5.58 beneath it during the session. Its acceptance test, two consecutive 30-minute closes beneath 7,736, needs 30-minute bars. None exist for Thursday. This time the bar cannot answer it. The low ran 26.50 beneath 7,736, so such closes were possible, and nothing shows whether they printed.

The macro override named two triggers. One was a broad cash-session extension of the after-hours decline in the search-advertising company that the provider’s commentary reported. The other was GDP and inflation data read as raising the path of rate increases. The news feed carried at 9:33 AM ET an item that the company’s shares fell 13 percent after its results. Per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, GDP grew 3.4 percent against a 3.2 percent forecast. On the same unconfirmed listing, the PCE price index rose 3.6 percent from a year earlier, in line with the forecast. No intraday series places Thursday’s prices against either item, and no move is tied to them here. The override’s scenario, a move through the 7,722 stop, printed in the bar. Its reference, the 7,712.17 flip-level pair, sat 2.67 above the low.

Our three full-day ranges split. The high-range case, 7,680 to 7,864, held, with the low 29.50 above its bottom and the high 90.25 beneath its top. The mid-range case, 7,715 to 7,832, lost its bottom by 5.50 while its top held by 58.25. The low-range case, 7,740 to 7,800, lost its bottom by 30.50; its top held by 26.25. Every session band kept its top. The high stayed beneath the night band’s 7,785, London’s 7,790, the morning band’s 7,820 and the afternoon band’s 7,832. Their bottoms cannot be graded. The low sat beneath each of them, and the daily bar cannot place it in a session.

The weighted path held its top and lost its bottom. Thursday’s outlook expected a hold between Pivot S2 at 7,715.08 and one standard deviation resistance at 7,831.42. In that judgment a dip toward the 7,736 to 7,744 band that held above 7,722 was weighted slightly above a direct recovery through the Pivot Point at 7,784.33. The high stopped 10.58 points beneath that Pivot Point, so no recovery through it printed. The low ran 12.50 through 7,722 and 5.58 through Pivot S2. The named alternative, a settle beneath Pivot S2 after the 8:30 AM ET data, did not print. We grade the card as written. The band and the stop both traded, the first target printed, the order is unknown and no result is claimed.

The Pivot Point at 7,745.83, the 7,742 to 7,750 band and the 7,764 stop

The basis narrowed. Thursday’s 7,754.25 settle less the 7,720.39 cash close measures 33.86 points, against 39.27 on Wednesday, and every cash equivalent in this article uses the new figure. The dataset keeps its own 34.15 point offset, 0.29 wider. Its published futures pairs sit slightly above a measured conversion: 8,134.15 for the 8,100 call-side ceiling, 8,034.15 for the 8,000 gamma concentration, 7,784.15 for the 7,750 modeled volatility threshold, 7,733.15 for the 7,699 modeled gamma-flip level and 7,634.15 for the 7,600 put-side support base.

Resistance starts 4.88 points up, at the 40-day crossing price for Friday of 7,759.13. The 50-day average at 7,759.75 sits 0.62 above it. Thursday’s 7,767.75 open (cash 7,733.89) and the published target price at 7,768.89 follow, 1.14 apart. A tight group comes next. The 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 7,773.00, Thursday’s 7,773.75 high (cash 7,739.89) and the 18-day crossing price at 7,774.85 sit within 1.85 points. The high sits 0.75 above the retracement.

Pivot R1 at 7,782.17 (cash 7,748.31) opens the next band. The 20-day average at 7,782.50 sits 0.33 above it and Wednesday’s 7,783.25 settle 0.75 higher. The 7,783.86 conversion of the 7,750 threshold sits 0.61 above that settle, and the dataset’s own 7,784.15 pair 0.29 further up. Five references sit inside 1.98 points. The 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 7,802.38 and one standard deviation resistance at 7,802.51 (cash 7,768.65) sit 0.13 apart. Pivot R2 at 7,810.08 (cash 7,776.22) and Wednesday’s 7,819.50 high (cash 7,785.64) follow, 9.42 apart.

Higher up, two standard deviations resistance at 7,822.50 (cash 7,788.64), the 7,833.86 conversion of the 7,800 resistance, the 7,834.36 top of the one-range frame and three standard deviations resistance at 7,837.84 (cash 7,803.98) sit within 15.34 points. Pivot R3 at 7,846.42 (cash 7,812.56) follows, 8.58 above that line. The one-month high of 7,897.50 from 10/06 (cash 7,863.64) and the 52-week and 13-week high of 7,905.00 from 08/13 (cash 7,871.14) sit higher. The last sits 150.75 points or 1.94 percent above the settle. The 8,034.15 concentration pair (cash 8,000) and the 8,134.15 ceiling pair (cash 8,100) complete the list.

Support starts 0.43 points down, at the 3-10 day crossover stall level of 7,753.82. Wednesday’s 7,750.25 low (cash 7,716.39) sits 3.57 beneath it and 0.25 above the band top. Then comes the band itself. The Pivot Point at 7,745.83 (cash 7,711.97) sits inside it, 3.83 above the bottom and 4.17 beneath the top. The 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 7,743.62 also sits inside, 1.62 above the bottom. The 9-day crossing price at 7,741.25 sits 0.75 beneath the band. The 9-day average at 7,740.50 sits 1.50 beneath it.

The first target has company. The 5-day average at 7,734.00 sits 0.14 above the 7,733.86 conversion of the dataset’s 7,700 support. The dataset’s own 7,733.15 flip-level pair and the 7,732.86 conversion of the 7,699 flip level sit 0.29 apart. The 7,723.86 conversion of the 7,690 dealer-positioning pivot follows, 4.14 beneath the 7,728 first target. Pivot S1 at 7,717.92 (cash 7,684.06) sits 10.08 beneath that target.

The lows come next. The 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week high at 7,710.56 sits 0.56 above the 7,710 second target and 1.06 above Thursday’s 7,709.50 low (cash 7,675.64). One standard deviation support at 7,705.99 (cash 7,672.13) and the 100-day average at 7,699.50 follow. Two standard deviations support at 7,686.00 (cash 7,652.14) sits 6.00 beneath the 7,692 extended target. The 7,683.86 conversion of the 7,650 support and Pivot S2 at 7,681.58 (cash 7,647.72) sit just beneath it. The one-range frame ends at 7,674.14, and three standard deviations support sits at 7,670.66 (cash 7,636.80).

Pivot S3 at 7,653.67 (cash 7,619.81), the 50 percent retracement of the 13-week range at 7,650.50 and the one-month low of 7,648.50 from 10/23 (cash 7,614.64) sit within 5.17 points. The 7,634.15 put-side pair (cash 7,600), the 200-day average at 7,425.50 and the 13-week low of 7,396.00 from 07/30 sit far lower.

The averages split. The settle sits 20.25 points above the 5-day, 13.75 above the 9-day, 54.75 above the 100-day and 328.75 above the 200-day. It sits 28.25 beneath the 20-day and 5.50 beneath the 50-day. Each was rounded once to the 0.25 tick from the 259-session settlement series. The 5-day rose 10.00 from Wednesday’s 7,724.00 as the 10/22 settle of 7,704.50 left the window. The 20-day rose 1.50 from 7,781.00 as the 10/01 settle of 7,724.00 dropped out. The 50-day eased 0.75 from 7,760.50, and the 9-day rose to 7,740.50 from 7,735.00. The longer stack still rises. The 30 older settlements in the 50-day window averaged 7,744.46, beneath the latest 20, which keeps the 20-day above the 50-day. Older windows sit lower. The 50 older settlements in the 100-day window averaged 7,639.15, and the 100 older settlements in the 200-day window 7,151.45. For Friday the averages would be crossed at 7,741.25 for the 9-day, 7,774.85 for the 18-day and 7,759.13 for the 40-day.

Momentum sits at the middle of its range. On the provider’s published readings, taken at 6:21 PM ET on Thursday after the 6:00 PM ET reopen, relative strength reads 49.33 on the 9-day, 49.34 on the 14-day and 49.83 on the 20-day. The provider may already blend the reopened session’s quote into them. The raw stochastic reads 61.84 percent on the 9-day and 44.34 percent on the 14-day. The smoothed 14-day %K at 48.95 percent sits above %D at 39.47 percent. Direction tilts lower. On the 9-day, negative direction leads, 23.89 against 18.68 with the ADX at 22.01. On the 14-day, negative direction also leads, 23.64 against 18.01 with a low ADX of 16.46. Historic volatility reads 9.81 percent on the 9-day and 10.28 percent on the 14-day.

The composite multi-indicator read published for Friday is 16 percent buy, down from 64 percent buy in the prior session’s snapshot. Its strength is described as minimum and its direction as weakest. A week ago the snapshot read hold, and a month ago 8 percent buy. The short-horizon group averages 20 percent sell, the medium-horizon group 25 percent buy and the long-horizon group 67 percent buy. The trend indicator reads hold.

Thursday’s range fell short of the averages. The 14-day average true range stands at 80.11 points and the 14-day average daily range at 82.39. The 9-day figures are 80.62 and 80.72 and the 20-day figures 79.66 and 79.69, all read after the reopen with the oscillators’ caveat. Thursday’s 64.25 point range was 0.78 times the 14-day average daily range, the narrowest since the 61.25 of 10/21. One average true range either side of the settle frames Friday between 7,674.14 and 7,834.36. The deviation bands are tighter. They run 7,705.99 to 7,802.51 at one deviation, 7,686.00 to 7,822.50 at two and 7,670.66 to 7,837.84 at three. Built from five settlements, they describe settlement dispersion only. The cash-session reaction to the after-hours results can carry the contract outside any of them. The dataset’s implied one-day move of 0.52 percent equals about 40.15 points on the 7,720.39 cash close. Its published span, 7,674.33 to 7,754.57 in cash terms, is quoted as published; it is centred 5.94 points beneath the close.

Zoom out. Daily ranges over the last ten sessions ran 133.50, 96.25, 87.00, 61.25, 122.00, 65.75, 87.75, 73.00, 69.25 and 64.25 points. Settlement changes read minus 86.75, plus 30.25, plus 20.75, plus 45.00, minus 95.75, minus 44.75, plus 54.75, plus 43.75, plus 25.00 and minus 29.00. Settlements ran 7,704.25, 7,734.50, 7,755.25, 7,800.25, 7,704.50, 7,659.75, 7,714.50, 7,758.25, 7,783.25 and 7,754.25. That is the same ten-session stretch. Over five sessions the contract is up 49.75 points from the 7,704.50 settle of 10/22. Thursday opened 15.50 points beneath Wednesday’s settle. Its bar left a 13.50 point body beneath the open. The upper shadow above the open measures 6.00 points and the lower shadow beneath the settle 44.75. The settle sits 44.75 above the low and 19.50 beneath the high. The high sat 45.75 beneath Wednesday’s 7,819.50, and 9.50 beneath Wednesday’s settle. The low sat 40.75 beneath Wednesday’s 7,750.25. No four-hour series was captured. Swing structure rests on daily bars. The retracement grid for Friday places the 50 percent level of the four-week range at 7,773.00, 18.75 above the settle. The 38.2 percent level from the four-week low sits beneath at 7,743.62, 10.63 under the settle. Lower still sit the 38.2 percent level from the 13-week high at 7,710.56 and the 50 percent level of the 13-week range at 7,650.50.

The Nasdaq-100 fell 1.38 percent and the S&P 500 0.30 percent

Thursday’s bar carries no clock. It opened at 7,767.75 at the Wednesday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 15.50 points beneath Wednesday’s settle, and settled 13.50 points beneath that open. No intraday series exists for the session. The news items below keep their own times, and none is tied to a price move. Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Thursday. So the open, high and low on the provider’s overview page after that hour, 7,709.25, 7,713.00 and 7,704.00, belong to the Friday session. The provider’s previous close of 7,754.25 is Thursday’s settle.

The data came on schedule. The advance GDP estimate and the personal income and outlays report were released at 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them. Per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, GDP grew 3.4 percent against a 3.2 percent forecast. On the same unconfirmed listing, the PCE price index rose 3.6 percent from a year earlier and the core index 3.1 percent, both in line with forecasts. Weekly jobless claims were 194 thousand against 198 thousand, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The European Central Bank held its main rate at 2.65 percent at 9:15 AM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The seven-year note auction at 1:00 PM ET stopped at 4.894 percent, also per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. No intraday series places Thursday’s prices against any release.

Yields eased. The provider’s ten-year yield record closed at 4.99 percent against 5.04 percent on Wednesday, a figure revised from the 5.05 our Thursday outlook carried. The dollar index closed at 102.04 in the provider’s daily record, down 0.15 from Wednesday’s 102.19. The volatility index closed at 17.20 against 16.91. The provider’s commentary reported that markets price a 78 percent chance of a rate increase at the December FOMC meeting. That figure is attributed and not verified independently.

Technology lagged. The S&P 500 cash index fell 0.30 percent, against 1.38 percent for the Nasdaq-100 cash index and 0.25 percent for the Dow industrials. The semiconductor index fell 1.42 percent. So the broad index fell by less than technology. The news feed’s market wrap described a rotation out of large technology shares into the broader market as bonds rallied. That description is the feed’s. No sector breadth series was captured, so no sector figures are given.

Results framed the day. A search-advertising company reported after Wednesday’s close, as the calendar lists it. The news feed carried at 9:33 AM ET an item that its shares fell 13 percent. The provider’s commentary also cited a fall of more than 9 percent in a heavy-equipment maker after its guidance. Both figures are attributed and were not verified independently. Earlier results from a drugmaker and a card-payments company, both due on Thursday as the calendar lists them, beat their adjusted earnings estimates, per the news feed. No price move is attributed to any of these items.

More results arrived after the bell. An online retailer and a chipmaker reported after Thursday’s close, as the calendar lists them. Per the news feed, the online retailer’s earnings per share of 1.89 dollars missed the 1.97 estimate while its cloud sales beat. Per the same feed, the chipmaker’s adjusted earnings per share of 0.52 dollars beat the 0.41 estimate while revenue just missed. The news feed headlined both as disappointing at 4:14 PM ET. The provider’s commentary said both fell sharply in extended trading. None of it is in the settlement. These items arrived after the 4:00 PM ET cash close.

Gulf headlines ran through the afternoon. At 1:54 PM ET and 1:55 PM ET the news feed carried maritime security reports of a tanker struck in the Strait of Hormuz. At 3:13 PM ET it carried a press report that the top US regional commander briefed the President on military options for Iran. After the close the news feed carried claims by Yemen’s Houthis of attacks on three Saudi oil facilities. These are reports carried by the feeds rather than confirmed events. No move is attributed to any one of them. December WTI crude settled at 102.00, down 0.76 percent.

Metals fell. December gold slipped 0.50 percent to 4,031.4, and December silver fell 2.40 percent. No move in either is tied to the headlines above.

Activity rose. Thursday’s December volume was 1,926,149 contracts on the 2026-10-29 row, against 1,576,563 on the revised 2026-10-28 row, a rise of 349,586 or 22.2 percent. Our Thursday outlook carried the preliminary 1,519,028 for Wednesday. Wednesday’s open interest now reads 1,931,500 on the revised 2026-10-28 row, against 1,935,284 for Tuesday, a dip of 3,784. Thursday’s open interest was not yet reported.

The weekly positioning report dated October 20, shown on the provider’s overview, puts leveraged-fund long positions at 135,034 contracts and short positions at 506,279. That leaves a net short of 371,245. Asset-manager long positions stand at 1,101,642 and asset-manager short positions at 200,265. The report predates the moves of the last seven sessions. The next report is due after the Friday close.

The cash close sits between two model lines. The dealer-positioning dataset used here takes the prior session’s closes as its reference prices. Its 7,743 index reference matches Wednesday’s 7,743.98 cash close to the whole point, and its 29,813 Nasdaq-100 reference Wednesday’s 29,813.16. Its narrative states a close of 7,720, down 0.3 percent. That is consistent with the provider’s 7,720.39 close, which this article uses. Wednesday’s 7,743.98 less 23.59 points gives 7,720.39, a 0.30 percent decline.

Now the distances, in cash. The close sits 29.61 points beneath the 7,750 modeled volatility threshold (ES 7,783.86 at the measured basis, dataset pair 7,784.15). It sits 21.39 above the 7,699 modeled gamma-flip level (ES 7,732.86, dataset pair 7,733.15). It sits 120.39 above the 7,600 put-side support base (ES pair 7,634.15) and 379.61 beneath the 8,100 call-side ceiling (ES pair 8,134.15). The largest gamma concentration sits at 8,000 (ES pair 8,034.15), 279.61 points above the close. In the dataset’s model, gamma tilt reads 1.092 and gamma notional plus 438.335 million dollars, against plus 259.025 million in the prior session’s read. The modeled threshold and flip level are model outputs; neither is an option strike.

The dataset draws its own map. Its summary lists resistance at 7,750 and 7,800, support at 7,700, 7,650, 7,600 and 7,400 and a dealer-positioning pivot at 7,690. Its key strikes are 8,000, 7,000, 7,700 and 7,800, all in cash. The close sits 30.39 points above that pivot. At the measured basis the pivot converts to 7,723.86, the 7,700 support to 7,733.86, the 7,650 support to 7,683.86 and the 7,800 resistance to 7,833.86. The dataset’s summary keeps a cautious stance beneath the 7,690 pivot. Its latest update says a loss of 7,690 alongside further weakness in technology and higher rates could bring larger declines. The day’s S&P 500 low of 7,690.94 stayed 0.94 above that pivot. Statements in the dataset about the order of intraday moves and about after-hours share moves are excluded, because no intraday series is available to place them and the share moves are unverified.

The console adds detail. The S&P 500 positioning console, read at 6:23 PM ET, still carried the prior session’s 7,743.98 as its last closing price. It shows a hedge level at 7,750, and model call gamma of minus 3.9 billion against put gamma of minus 3.57 billion. It puts one-month implied volatility at 13.08 percent against realised volatility of 9.67 percent. Options price more movement than the index has recently delivered. The implied-volatility rank reads 17.44 percent, the skew rank 62.80 percent and the put-to-call open-interest ratio 1.46. Its high and low volatility point fields are treated as low-confidence and were not used.

Two gamma measures appear here. The dataset’s gamma notional and the console’s gamma fields come from different models and timestamps. They are not reconciled here, and neither is summed with the other.

Damping is the question for Friday. In the review’s interpretation a cash close between the modeled gamma-flip level and the modeled volatility threshold, with gamma notional more positive than in the prior read, describes an environment in which dealer hedging is still likely to damp moves near 7,700 in the cash index. In the same interpretation, the close beneath the 7,750 threshold leaves that level as resistance. That reading carries no direction of its own. The primary setup sells the 7,742 to 7,750 band, beneath the 7,783.86 conversion of the threshold. Its targets run toward the 7,723.86 conversion of the 7,690 pivot and Thursday’s low.

The trade map for Friday

The primary setup is a short from 7,742 to 7,750. It reverses Thursday’s long. The composite fell to 16 percent buy from 64 percent buy, with its direction described as weakest. Negative direction leads on the 9-day and the 14-day systems. Thursday printed a lower high and a lower low, and the settle sits beneath the 20-day and 50-day averages. Now the geometry, which is unusual. The whole band sits beneath Thursday’s settle, its top 4.25 points down and its bottom 12.25. It holds the Pivot Point at 7,745.83 and the 7,743.62 retracement. The stop sits on the other side of the settle. At 7,764 it stands 9.75 above the settle and 4.89 beneath the published target price at 7,768.89. The 40-day crossing price at 7,759.13 and the 50-day average at 7,759.75 sit between the settle and the stop. Targets step down from the band. The first, 7,728, sits 4.14 above the 7,723.86 conversion of the 7,690 pivot and 26.25 beneath the settle. The second, 7,710, sits 0.50 above Thursday’s low and 0.56 beneath the 7,710.56 retracement. The extended 7,692 sits 6.00 above two standard deviations support at 7,686.00. The evidence against is plain. In the review’s reading, positive dealer gamma near 7,700 in the cash index can slow any decline. The settle still sits above the 5-day, 9-day, 100-day and 200-day averages. The review calls the setup an analyst judgment that rebounds into the Pivot Point are sold. No measured edge stands behind it.

Primary setup for Friday
Direction
Short
Entry Zone
7,742 to 7,750 (cash 7,708.14 to 7,716.14), around the Pivot Point at 7,745.83 and holding the 7,743.62 retracement; the whole band sits beneath Thursday’s 7,754.25 settle, its top 4.25 points down
Stop Loss
7,764 (cash 7,730.14), 9.75 points above Thursday’s 7,754.25 settle and beneath the published target price at 7,768.89
Target 1
7,728 (cash 7,694.14), 4.14 above the 7,723.86 futures conversion of the 7,690 dealer-positioning pivot; 26.25 beneath Thursday’s settle
Target 2
7,710 (cash 7,676.14), 0.50 above Thursday’s 7,709.50 low; 44.25 beneath Thursday’s settle
Target 3 (extended)
7,692 (cash 7,658.14), 6.00 above two standard deviations support at 7,686.00; 62.25 beneath Thursday’s settle
Risk-to-Reward
Approximately 1:1 to T1, 1:2 to T2 and 1:3 to T3, measured from the 7,746 midpoint of the entry zone against the 7,764 stop, a risk of 18 points
Invalidation
A settle above Thursday’s 7,754.25 settle negates the thesis. Short of that, the edge is removed by acceptance above the entry band, defined as two consecutive 30-minute closes above 7,750; a touch alone does not remove it
Macro override
A cash-session reversal of the after-hours declines in the online retailer and the chipmaker that the provider’s commentary reported, or a labour-cost reading taken as easing pressure on rates, would support the index. In that scenario a move through the 7,764 stop invalidates the short before the targets, and Pivot R1 at 7,782.17 becomes the reference, 18.17 points beyond the stop and inside one 14-day average true range of 80.11 points
Status at Thursday’s settle
7,754.25, 4.25 points above the band top; Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Thursday

Now the arithmetic. From the 7,746 midpoint the risk to the stop is 18 points, 22.5 percent of the 14-day average true range of 80.11. The targets sit 18, 36 and 54 points beneath the midpoint. Exact multiples. The band sits wholly beneath the settle, its top 4.25 points down and its bottom 12.25. The stop sits 9.75 above the settle. The three targets sit 26.25, 44.25 and 62.25 beneath it. A one-range frame from the settle, 7,674.14 to 7,834.36, ends 17.86 points beneath the extended target and reaches 70.36 above the stop. The invalidation line is Thursday’s own settle, 9.75 beneath the stop and 4.25 above the band top.

The session bands are the review’s analyst judgment. Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026. The provider’s overview showed the new session trading between 7,704.00 and 7,713.00 at the time of capture, beneath Thursday’s settle, after the online retailer’s and the chipmaker’s results. Through the night session to 3:00 AM ET Friday the review expects roughly 7,680 to 7,745, with a lower bias beneath the Pivot Point at 7,745.83. That band’s top sits 0.83 beneath the Pivot Point. Tokyo consumer prices are listed at 7:30 PM ET and the Bank of Japan decision at 11:30 PM ET on Thursday, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. London, from 3:00 AM to 8:00 AM ET, runs roughly 7,675 to 7,750 with a neutral to lower bias beneath the Pivot Point. Pivot S1 at 7,717.92 is the pivot of that session. German flash GDP is listed at 5:00 AM ET and euro-area flash GDP at 6:00 AM ET, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Results from an oil major follow at 6:30 AM ET, as the calendar lists them.

The cash-session bands, also analyst judgment, are wider. The employment cost index is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Friday, October 30, 2026, as the calendar lists it. The 9:30 AM ET cash open is the first directional test of the after-hours reaction to Thursday’s results. The morning band, 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM ET, runs roughly 7,670 to 7,760. The 7,742 to 7,750 setup band sits near its top, 10.00 beneath it. Federal Reserve speakers are listed at 12:00 PM ET and 12:30 PM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The afternoon band, 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET, runs roughly 7,665 to 7,770. Three standard deviations support at 7,670.66 sits 5.66 inside its bottom edge, and the 7,768.89 target price 1.11 inside its top. The scenario ranges, also analyst judgment, run 7,690 to 7,750 for the low-range case, 7,675 to 7,765 for the mid-range case, the most likely, and 7,650 to 7,800 for the high-range case.

The weekend follows. Globex halts at 5:00 PM ET on Friday and does not reopen until 6:00 PM ET on Sunday, November 1, 2026. US daylight saving time ends at 2:00 AM ET that Sunday, as the calendar lists it. In the review’s words, two days of headline exposure therefore separate Friday’s settle from the next reopen. Results from a second oil major are due on Friday, as the calendar lists them for the date only. Results from a consumer-electronics company follow on Monday, November 2, also listed for the date only. The JOLTS report is set for 10:00 AM ET on Tuesday, November 3, and the employment situation report for 8:30 AM ET on Friday, November 6, as the calendar lists them.

One path is weighted. In the review’s analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between Pivot S2 at 7,681.58 and the published target price at 7,768.89. In the same judgment, a rebound toward the Pivot Point that fails beneath Thursday’s settle is weighted slightly above a sustained recovery through the 7,783.86 threshold conversion. It rests on judgment. The review weighs it that way because the composite fell to 16 percent buy with direction weakest, negative direction leads on both systems and the settle sits beneath the 20-day and 50-day. In the same judgment, positive dealer gamma near 7,700 in the cash index argues that declines toward the flip-level conversion may be slower than in the Nasdaq-100. One alternative is named. A settle above Thursday’s 7,754.25 settle after the 8:30 AM ET employment cost index, as the calendar lists it, would invalidate the reading. The review says it would open the target price at 7,768.89 and Pivot R1 at 7,782.17. The other risk runs lower. A cash-index move through the 7,690 pivot at the open would bring Pivot S2 at 7,681.58 and three standard deviations support at 7,670.66 into play without the rebound the setup needs.

Thursday’s low ran 26.50 points through the bottom of the long band; Friday’s short sits 4.25 points beneath the settle, with its stop on the far side.

1. Executive Summary

The December S&P 500 contract settled at 7,754.25 on Thursday, down 29.00 or 0.37 percent from Wednesday's settle of 7,783.25, after trading between 7,773.75 and 7,709.50, a 64.25 point daily range. The settle finished at 69.6 percent of the range, and the 64.25 point range was 0.78 multiples of the published 14-day average daily range of 82.39 points. Thursday's high sat 45.75 points beneath Wednesday's 7,819.50 high and Thursday's low sat 40.75 points beneath Wednesday's 7,750.25 low, so the session printed a lower high and a lower low and ended a run of three higher settles. The 29.00 point decline was the largest one-day decline since the 44.75 point decline of 10/23.

The S&P 500 cash index closed at 7,720.39, down 23.59 or 0.30 percent; its session range ran from 7,732.21 to 7,690.94, while the Nasdaq-100 cash index fell 1.38 percent and the Dow industrials 0.25 percent. The news feed carried at 9:33 AM ET an item that the search-advertising company's shares fell 13 percent after its results, and its market wrap described a rotation out of large technology shares into the broader market as bonds rallied. The volatility index closed at 17.20; Wednesday's close was 16.91.

The advance GDP estimate released at 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists it, showed growth of 3.4 percent against a 3.2 percent forecast, and the PCE price index rose 3.6 percent from a year earlier, in line with the forecast, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. After the close, results from an online retailer and a chipmaker were released on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them, and the news feed headlined both as disappointing at 4:14 PM ET; the provider's overview showed the reopened Friday session trading near 7,709.50 at the time of capture.

The composite multi-indicator read is "16% BUY", against "64% BUY" in the prior session's snapshot, with negative direction leading on both directional systems. The settle sits above the 5-day, 9-day, 100-day and 200-day settlement averages and beneath the 20-day and 50-day. The published 14-day average true range is 80.11 points. The primary setup is a short from the 7,742 to 7,750 band around the Pivot Point at 7,745.83, stopped at 7,764 above Thursday's settle, with objectives at 7,728, 7,710 and an extended 7,692.

2. Price Action & Technical Structure

2.1 Intraday and Session Review

The Thursday session opened at 7,767.75 at the Wednesday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 15.50 points beneath Wednesday's settle, marked a daily high of 7,773.75 and a daily low of 7,709.50, and settled at 7,754.25 at 4:00 PM ET. This review makes no claim about the order in which the high and the low printed; the daily bar fixes the open, the extremes and the settle, and that is the evidence used here.

The settle sits 44.75 points above the low and 19.50 points beneath the high. The body of the daily bar measures 13.50 points from the 7,767.75 open down to the 7,754.25 settle, with an upper shadow of 6.00 points above the open and a lower shadow of 44.75 points beneath the settle.

Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET, so the open, high and low shown on the provider's overview page, 7,709.25, 7,713.00 and 7,704.00, belong to the new Friday session and not to Thursday's completed session. The provider's previous close of 7,754.25 is Thursday's settle.

Thursday's completed-session extremes are the completed-session inputs behind the published pivot ladder rather than an independently read bar. Pivot R3 at 7,846.42 minus Pivot S3 at 7,653.67, divided by three, returns 64.25, and Pivot R2 at 7,810.08 minus Pivot S2 at 7,681.58, divided by two, returns the same 64.25. Three times the Pivot Point of 7,745.83 less the 7,754.25 settle gives a high plus low sum of 15,483.24, which the pair of 7,773.75 and 7,709.50 reproduces to within the published rounding at 15,483.25, and that pair reproduces all seven published rungs.

The provider's settlement row and the chart's completed daily bar carry the same 7,767.75 open, 7,773.75 high, 7,709.50 low and 7,754.25 settle.

2.2 Daily Structure

Thursday's 7,773.75 high sits 45.75 points beneath Wednesday's 7,819.50, and the 7,709.50 low sits 40.75 points beneath Wednesday's 7,750.25, so the session printed a lower high and a lower low after three sessions of higher highs and higher lows. The provider publishes 7,905.00 as the 52-week and 13-week high, 7,897.50 as the one-month high and 7,648.50 as the one-month low.

Settlements over the last seven sessions read 7,800.25, 7,704.50, 7,659.75, 7,714.50, 7,758.25, 7,783.25 and 7,754.25. Over five sessions the contract is up 49.75 points from the 7,704.50 settle of 10/22.

The December settle stood 33.86 points above the 7,720.39 cash close, against 39.27 points on Wednesday, both measured as the settle less the provider's cash close from the same completed-session daily records.

2.3 4-Hour and Swing Structure

Daily ranges for the last ten sessions ran 133.50, 96.25, 87.00, 61.25, 122.00, 65.75, 87.75, 73.00, 69.25 and 64.25, and the settlement changes over the same ten sessions read minus 86.75, plus 30.25, plus 20.75, plus 45.00, minus 95.75, minus 44.75, plus 54.75, plus 43.75, plus 25.00 and minus 29.00.

The retracement grid published for Friday places the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 7,743.62, the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 7,773.00, the 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week high at 7,710.56 and the 50 percent retracement of the 13-week range at 7,650.50. No four-hour series was captured for this session, so swing structure here rests on daily bars only.

2.4 Moving Averages

The averages cited in this subsection were computed from the provider's daily settlement series for the December contract, which holds 259 completed sessions through Thursday; the partial Friday row of the reopened Globex session was dropped before counting. Each average is carried at full precision and rounded once to the 0.25 tick. The 5-day average stands at 7,734.00, the 9-day at 7,740.50, the 20-day at 7,782.50, the 50-day at 7,759.75, the 100-day at 7,699.50 and the 200-day at 7,425.50.

The 7,754.25 settle sits 20.25 points above the 5-day average, 13.75 points above the 9-day, 28.25 points beneath the 20-day, 5.50 points beneath the 50-day, 54.75 points above the 100-day and 328.75 points above the 200-day. The 5-day average rose from Wednesday's 7,724.00, because the 10/22 settle of 7,704.50 left the window and was replaced by 7,754.25. The 20-day rose from 7,781.00 as the 10/01 settle of 7,724.00 left that window, and the 50-day eased from 7,760.50.

The 20-day average sits above the 50-day because the 30 older settlements in the 50-day window averaged lower, at 7,744.46. The 50-day sits above the 100-day because the 50 older settlements in the 100-day window averaged lower, at 7,639.15, and the 100-day sits above the 200-day because the 100 older settlements in the 200-day window averaged lower, at 7,151.45. The projection grid gives the prices at which each average would be crossed on Friday: 7,741.25 for the 9-day, 7,774.85 for the 18-day and 7,759.13 for the 40-day.

2.5 Oscillator and Trend Readings

The oscillator figures below are as published on the provider's technical page, read at 6:21 PM ET on Thursday after the 6:00 PM ET reopen, so the provider may already be blending the reopened session's quote into them; they are the provider's published readings, and none was computed for this review. As published, the 9-day relative strength reads 49.33, the 14-day relative strength 49.34 and the 20-day relative strength 49.83.

The 9-day raw stochastic reads 61.84 percent and the 14-day raw stochastic 44.34 percent, while the 14-day stochastic %K reads 48.95 percent and the 14-day stochastic %D 39.47 percent.

The 9-day directional index ADX reads 22.01 with the 9-day +DI at 18.68 and the 9-day -DI at 23.89; the 14-day directional index ADX reads 16.46 with the 14-day +DI at 18.01 and the 14-day -DI at 23.64, so negative direction leads on both. The 9-day historic volatility reads 9.81 percent and the 14-day historic volatility 10.28 percent.

The composite multi-indicator read published for the Friday session is "16% BUY", against the prior session's snapshot of "64% BUY", with signal strength described as "Minimum" and direction as "Weakest". The snapshot history reads "HOLD" a week ago and "8% BUY" a month ago. The short-horizon group averages "20% SELL", the medium-horizon group "25% BUY" and the long-horizon group "67% BUY", and the composite trend indicator reads hold.

2.6 Volatility and Expected Range

The published 14-day average true range stands at 80.11 points and the 14-day average daily range at 82.39 points; the 9-day average true range is 80.62 with a 9-day average daily range of 80.72, and the 20-day average true range is 79.66 with a 20-day average daily range of 79.69. These were read after the reopen and carry the same caveat as the oscillators. Thursday's 64.25 point range was 0.78 multiples of the 14-day average daily range.

Adding and subtracting the 14-day average true range of 80.11 points from the 7,754.25 settle frames Friday between 7,674.14 and 7,834.36. The published standard-deviation bands are built from five settlements: one deviation spans 7,705.99 to 7,802.51, two spans 7,686.00 to 7,822.50 and three spans 7,670.66 to 7,837.84. The dataset's implied one-day move of 0.52 percent spans SPX 7,674.33 to 7,754.57, as published. These bands describe dispersion, not intraday reach.

3. Key Levels

3.1 Resistance

Above the 7,754.25 settle, the first overhead references are the 40-day average crossing price at 7,759.13, the 50-day average at 7,759.75, Thursday's 7,767.75 open, the published target price at 7,768.89, the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 7,773.00, Thursday's 7,773.75 high and the 18-day average crossing price at 7,774.85. Pivot R1 at 7,782.17, the 20-day average at 7,782.50, Wednesday's 7,783.25 settle and the 7,783.86 conversion of the SPX 7,750 modeled volatility threshold form the next band, followed by the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 7,802.38, one standard deviation resistance at 7,802.51, Pivot R2 at 7,810.08 and Wednesday's 7,819.50 high. Two standard deviations resistance at 7,822.50 and the 7,833.86 conversion of the SPX 7,800 resistance are the extended references, with the 7,834.36 top of the one-range frame, three standard deviations resistance at 7,837.84 and Pivot R3 at 7,846.42 beyond.

3.2 Support

Beneath the settle sit the 3-10 day crossover stall level at 7,753.82, Wednesday's 7,750.25 low, the Pivot Point at 7,745.83, the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 7,743.62, the 9-day average crossing price at 7,741.25, the 9-day average at 7,740.50 and the 5-day average at 7,734.00. The 7,733.86 conversion of SPX 7,700, the 7,732.86 conversion of the SPX 7,699 modeled gamma-flip level and the 7,723.86 conversion of the SPX 7,690 dealer-positioning pivot form the next band, with Pivot S1 at 7,717.92, the 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week high at 7,710.56 and Thursday's 7,709.50 low beneath. One standard deviation support at 7,705.99, the 100-day average at 7,699.50, two standard deviations support at 7,686.00, the 7,683.86 conversion of SPX 7,650, Pivot S2 at 7,681.58, three standard deviations support at 7,670.66 and Pivot S3 at 7,653.67 are the extended references.

4. Macro Drivers

4.1 Dollar, Rates, and Fed Policy

The advance GDP estimate and the personal income and outlays report were released at 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists it. Per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, GDP grew 3.4 percent against a 3.2 percent forecast, the PCE price index rose 3.6 percent from a year earlier and the core index 3.1 percent, both in line with forecasts, and weekly jobless claims were 194 thousand against 198 thousand. The provider's ten-year yield record closed at 4.99 percent; Wednesday's close was 5.04 percent. The dollar index closed at 102.04 against 102.19. The provider's commentary reported that markets price a 78 percent chance of a rate increase at the December FOMC meeting, a figure attributed and not verified independently.

4.2 Large-Cap Leadership and Earnings

Results from a search-advertising company were released after the close on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists them; the news feed carried at 9:33 AM ET an item that the shares fell 13 percent, and the provider's commentary also cited a fall of more than 9 percent in a heavy-equipment maker after its guidance, both attributed and not verified independently. Earlier results from a drugmaker and a card-payments company, both due on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them, beat their adjusted earnings estimates, per the news feed.

After the close, per the news feed, the online retailer's earnings per share of 1.89 dollars missed the 1.97 estimate while its cloud sales beat, and the chipmaker's adjusted earnings per share of 0.52 dollars beat the 0.41 estimate while revenue just missed. The provider's commentary said both fell sharply in extended trading. Results from an oil major are scheduled for 6:30 AM ET on Friday, October 30, 2026, as the calendar lists them, and results from a consumer-electronics company are due on Monday, November 2, 2026, as the calendar lists them for the date only.

4.3 Geopolitical Backdrop

The news feed carried at 1:54 PM ET and 1:55 PM ET maritime security reports of a tanker struck in the Strait of Hormuz, at 3:13 PM ET a press report that the top US regional commander briefed the President on military options for Iran, and after the close claims by Yemen's Houthis of attacks on three Saudi oil facilities. December WTI crude settled at 102.00, down 0.76 percent. These are reports carried by the feeds rather than confirmed events.

4.4 Sector Breadth and Rotation

The S&P 500 cash index's 0.30 percent decline compared with 1.38 percent for the Nasdaq-100 cash index and 0.25 percent for the Dow industrials, so the broad index fell by less than technology. The news feed's market wrap described a rotation out of large technology shares into other sectors, and the semiconductor index fell 1.42 percent. No sector breadth series was captured for this session, so no sector figures are asserted.

4.5 Cross-Asset and Volatility

The volatility index closed at 17.20; Wednesday's close was 16.91. Gold's December contract fell 0.50 percent to 4,031.4 and silver's 2.40 percent. The S&P 500 positioning console, read at 6:23 PM ET, shows one-month implied volatility of 13.08 percent against realised volatility of 9.67 percent.

4.6 Institutional Positioning

The weekly positioning report dated October 20, shown on the provider's overview, puts leveraged-fund long positions at 135,034 contracts against short positions of 506,279, and asset-manager long positions at 1,101,642 against short positions of 200,265. The report predates the moves of the last seven sessions, and the next report is due after the Friday close.

Open interest on the December contract is shown at 1,931,500 for Wednesday in the provider's record, against 1,935,284 for Tuesday, and Thursday's open interest had not been reported at the time of capture; Thursday's December volume was 1,926,149 contracts.

5. SPX Options Flow Context

The dealer-positioning dataset read for this section uses the prior session's closes as its reference prices, not Thursday's: SPX 7,743 matches Wednesday's 7,743.98 cash close to the whole point and NDX 29,813 matches Wednesday's 29,813.16. Its narrative states a close of 7,720, down 0.3 percent, consistent with the provider's 7,720.39 close, and 7,743.98 less 23.59 points, a 0.30 percent decline, gives 7,720.39; every level below is read against the provider's close.

On the index the primary call side ceiling sits at SPX 8,100, the largest gamma concentration at SPX 8,000, the modeled volatility threshold at SPX 7,750, the modeled gamma-flip level at SPX 7,699 and the primary put side support base at SPX 7,600. The close sits 379.61 points beneath the ceiling, 279.61 points beneath the largest concentration, 29.61 points beneath the threshold, 21.39 points above the flip level and 120.39 points above the put side base. Gamma tilt reads 1.092 and gamma notional plus 438.335 million dollars, against plus 259.025 million in the prior session's dataset read. The dataset's summary lists resistance at 7,750 and 7,800, support at 7,700, 7,650, 7,600 and 7,400 and its dealer-positioning pivot at 7,690, 30.39 points beneath the close, and its key strikes are SPX 8,000, 7,000, 7,700 and 7,800.

The dataset publishes its own December futures pair for each level, carrying the source's 34.15 point offset rather than the measured 33.86 point basis: the ceiling at 8,134.15, the largest concentration at 8,034.15, the modeled volatility threshold at 7,784.15, the modeled gamma-flip level at 7,733.15 and the put side support base at 7,634.15. These are quoted as the source's pairs. The modeled threshold and flip level are model outputs, not option strikes. At the measured basis the SPX 7,750 threshold converts to 7,783.86, SPX 7,700 to 7,733.86, the SPX 7,699 flip level to 7,732.86, the SPX 7,690 pivot to 7,723.86 and SPX 7,650 to 7,683.86.

The dataset's summary keeps a cautious stance beneath the 7,690 pivot, and its latest update says a loss of 7,690 alongside further weakness in technology and higher rates could bring larger declines. The day's S&P 500 low of 7,690.94 stayed above that pivot. Statements in the dataset about the order of intraday moves and about after-hours share moves are excluded, because no intraday series is available to place them and the share moves are unverified.

The S&P 500 positioning console, read at 6:23 PM ET, still carried the prior session's 7,743.98 as its last closing price and shows the hedge level at 7,750, call gamma of minus 3.9 billion against put gamma of minus 3.57 billion, one-month implied volatility of 13.08 percent against realised volatility of 9.67 percent, an implied-volatility rank of 17.44 percent, a skew rank of 62.80 percent and a put-to-call open-interest ratio of 1.46. The console's high and low volatility point fields are treated as low-confidence and excluded.

In this review's interpretation a cash close between the modeled gamma-flip level and the modeled volatility threshold, with gamma notional more positive than in the prior read, describes an environment in which dealer hedging is still likely to damp moves near SPX 7,700, while the close beneath the 7,750 threshold leaves that level as resistance. The primary setup sells the 7,742 to 7,750 band, beneath the 7,783.86 conversion of the threshold, with targets toward the 7,723.86 conversion of the SPX 7,690 pivot and Thursday's low.

6. Forecast

6.1 Night Session (6:00 PM ET Thursday to 3:00 AM ET Friday, Globex/Asia)

Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, and the provider's overview showed the new session trading between 7,704.00 and 7,713.00 at the time of capture, beneath Thursday's settle after the online retailer's and the chipmaker's results. Tokyo consumer prices are listed at 7:30 PM ET and the Bank of Japan decision at 11:30 PM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Bias lower beneath the Pivot Point at 7,745.83, expected band roughly 7,680 to 7,745.

6.2 London Session (3:00 AM to 8:00 AM ET Friday)

German flash GDP is listed at 5:00 AM ET and euro-area flash GDP at 6:00 AM ET on Friday, October 30, 2026, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, and results from an oil major are scheduled for 6:30 AM ET on Friday, October 30, 2026, as the calendar lists them. Bias neutral to lower beneath the Pivot Point at 7,745.83, expected band roughly 7,675 to 7,750, with Pivot S1 at 7,717.92 the pivot of the session.

6.3 Morning Session (9:30 AM to 12:00 PM ET Friday, RTH Open)

The employment cost index is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Friday, October 30, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the cash open at 9:30 AM ET is the first directional test of the after-hours reaction to Thursday's results. Expected band roughly 7,670 to 7,760, with the 7,742 to 7,750 setup band near the top of that range.

6.4 Afternoon Session (12:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET Friday)

Federal Reserve speakers are listed at 12:00 PM ET and 12:30 PM ET on Friday, October 30, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Expected band roughly 7,665 to 7,770, with the outer edges near three standard deviations support at 7,670.66 and the published target price at 7,768.89.

6.5 Night Session Forward (6:00 PM ET Friday)

Globex halts at 5:00 PM ET on Friday and does not reopen until 6:00 PM ET on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the day US daylight saving time ends at 2:00 AM ET, as the calendar lists it. In this review's reading, two days of headline exposure therefore separate Friday's settle from the next reopen, and results from a consumer-electronics company follow on Monday, November 2, 2026, as the calendar lists them for the date only.

6.6 Expected Range (Friday Full Session)

Low-range scenario: 7,690 to 7,750

Mid-range scenario (most likely): 7,675 to 7,765

High-range scenario: 7,650 to 7,800

6.7 Most Likely Path

In this review's analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between Pivot S2 at 7,681.58 and the published target price at 7,768.89, with a rebound toward the Pivot Point at 7,745.83 that fails beneath Thursday's settle weighted slightly above a sustained recovery through the 7,783.86 threshold conversion. The composite fell to "16% BUY" with direction "Weakest", negative direction leads on both directional systems and the settle sits beneath the 20-day and 50-day averages, while, in the same judgment, positive dealer gamma near SPX 7,700 argues that declines toward the flip-level conversion may be slower than in the Nasdaq-100.

The alternative that would invalidate this reading is a settle above Thursday's 7,754.25 settle after the 8:30 AM ET employment cost index on Friday, October 30, 2026, as the calendar lists it, which would open the target price at 7,768.89 and Pivot R1 at 7,782.17. On the other side, a cash-index move through the SPX 7,690 pivot at the open would bring Pivot S2 at 7,681.58 and three standard deviations support at 7,670.66 into play without the rebound the setup needs.

7. Friday Economic Calendar

Thursday's releases are complete. The advance GDP estimate and the personal income and outlays report were released at 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them; per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, GDP grew 3.4 percent and the PCE price index rose 3.6 percent from a year earlier. The European Central Bank decision released at 9:15 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, held the main rate at 2.65 percent, and the seven-year note auction at 1:00 PM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, stopped at 4.894 percent. Results from an online retailer and a chipmaker were released after the close on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them.

On Friday, October 30, 2026 German flash GDP is listed at 5:00 AM ET and euro-area flash GDP at 6:00 AM ET, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Results from an oil major are scheduled for 6:30 AM ET and the employment cost index for 8:30 AM ET on Friday, October 30, 2026, both as the calendar lists them, and results from a second oil major are due the same day, as the calendar lists them for the date only. Federal Reserve speakers are listed at 12:00 PM ET and 12:30 PM ET on Friday, October 30, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed.

Later in the cycle, US daylight saving time ends at 2:00 AM ET on Sunday, November 1, 2026, as the calendar lists it. Results from a consumer-electronics company are due on Monday, November 2, 2026, as the calendar lists them for the date only, the JOLTS report is scheduled for 10:00 AM ET on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and the employment situation report for 8:30 AM ET on Friday, November 6, 2026, both as the calendar lists them. In this review's judgment the first-order event for the S&P 500 on Friday is the cash-session reaction at the 9:30 AM ET open to Thursday's after-hours results, with the 8:30 AM ET employment cost index the first scheduled release, as the calendar lists it.

8. Primary Trade Setup

Direction: Short

Rationale: The composite fell to "16% BUY" from "64% BUY" with direction "Weakest", negative direction leads on the 9-day and 14-day directional systems, and Thursday printed a lower high and a lower low with the settle beneath the 20-day and 50-day averages. A rebound into the 7,742 to 7,750 band around the Pivot Point at 7,745.83 offers a short with its stop above Thursday's settle. Positive dealer gamma near SPX 7,700 can slow any decline, so the setup is an analyst judgment that rebounds into the Pivot Point are sold, not a measured edge.

Entry Zone: 7,742 to 7,750

Stop Loss: 7,764 (above Thursday's 7,754.25 settle and beneath the published target price at 7,768.89)

Target 1 (T1): 7,728 (above the 7,723.86 conversion of the SPX 7,690 pivot)

Target 2 (T2): 7,710 (above Thursday's 7,709.50 low)

Target 3 (T3, extended): 7,692 (above two standard deviations support at 7,686.00)

Risk-to-Reward: Approximately 1:1 to T1, 1:2 to T2, 1:3 to T3

Invalidation: A settle above Thursday's 7,754.25 settle negates the thesis. Short of that, the edge is removed by acceptance above the entry band rather than by a touch, defined as two consecutive 30-minute closes above 7,750.

Macro override: A cash-session reversal of the after-hours declines in the online retailer and the chipmaker that the provider's commentary reported, or a labour-cost reading taken as easing pressure on rates, would support the index. In that scenario a move through the 7,764 stop invalidates the short before the targets, and Pivot R1 at 7,782.17 becomes the reference, 18.17 points beyond the stop and inside one 14-day average true range of 80.11 points.

Sources and methodology

This outlook is built from our session review of the December E-mini S&P 500 contract, the December ’26 contract, prepared after Thursday’s close on October 29, 2026 for the Friday, October 30, 2026 session. Thursday’s completed extremes are the inputs behind the published pivot ladder: Pivot R3 at 7,846.42 less Pivot S3 at 7,653.67, divided by three, and Pivot R2 at 7,810.08 less Pivot S2 at 7,681.58, divided by two, both return 64.25, and three times the 7,745.83 Pivot Point less the settle gives a high-plus-low sum of 15,483.24, which the pair of 7,773.75 and 7,709.50 reproduces to the published rounding at 15,483.25. The provider’s settlement row and the chart’s completed Thursday daily bar carry the same 7,767.75 open, 7,773.75 high, 7,709.50 low and 7,754.25 settle. Those figures and the review’s own statements are the only evidence used to grade Thursday’s card. No intraday series is available for Thursday, so no order of events within the session is stated. Wednesday’s volume now reads 1,576,563 contracts on the revised 2026-10-28 row, which replaces the preliminary 1,519,028 carried in Thursday’s outlook, and that row’s open interest reads 1,931,500; that post was not changed. Thursday’s open interest was not yet reported. Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET, so the overview page’s open, high and low after that hour belong to the Friday session and are not used as Thursday’s range.

The moving averages were computed from the provider’s 259-session daily settlement series through Thursday and rounded once to the 0.25 tick; the partial row of the reopened Friday session was dropped first. The oscillators and range averages are cited as published, read at 6:21 PM ET on Thursday after the reopen, so the provider may already blend the reopened session’s quote into them. The dealer-positioning dataset uses Wednesday’s closes as its reference prices and a fixed 34.15 point translation for its futures column, so cash equivalents here use the 33.86 point basis measured on Thursday, settlement against cash close. The dataset’s implied one-day span is quoted as published, and its statements about the order of intraday moves and about after-hours share moves are excluded. The dataset’s gamma notional and the console’s call and put gamma are separate model measures from different timestamps; they are shown side by side, each with its source, and never combined. The console’s high and low volatility point fields are not used. The weekly positioning report is dated October 20. Company results are described generically. Scenario ranges are analyst judgment. Items marked unconfirmed come from the news-feed calendar, and every catalyst whose release time had passed at the time of writing is recorded as completed.

Thursday’s outlook for this contract is here, and the Nasdaq-100 contract’s Thursday outlook set the levels for the index whose cash close fell 1.38 percent on Thursday. Outlooks for ES, NQ, GC and CL are collected on the market outlook page, and our forward trading record is on the performance statement.
