S&P Futures 7,783.25: Long 7,736 to 7,744 Beneath Pivot S1

December S&P futures settled at 7,783.25, up 25.00 with a third higher high and higher low. Levels, the 7,736 to 7,744 long and Thursday's GDP calendar.

At 7,750.25, Wednesday’s low in the December S&P 500 contract stopped 6.25 points above the top of the 7,736 to 7,744 long zone in our Wednesday outlook. The band never traded. Neither did the 7,722 stop. All three target prices, 7,758, 7,776 and 7,794, sat inside the day’s range. With no print in the band, the card never engaged, and no result is asserted. The contract settled at 7,783.25.

Wednesday added a third higher settle. December E-mini futures settled at 7,783.25, up 25.00 points or 0.32 percent, after a 69.25 point session from 7,750.25 to 7,819.50. Higher high, higher low, for a third session running. The settle was the highest since the 7,800.25 of 10/21, and the high the highest since the 7,879.75 of 10/14. The settle finished at 47.7 percent of the range, just beneath its midpoint. The S&P 500 cash index closed at 7,743.98, up 21.38 or 0.28 percent. The FOMC statement came at 2:00 PM ET, as the calendar lists it, and the news feed carried a 10-2 vote to hold. GDP and the personal income and outlays report follow at 8:30 AM ET Thursday, as the calendar lists them.

At a glance

December S&P 500 futures settled at 7,783.25 on Wednesday, above all six settlement averages from the 5-day to the 200-day. Thursday’s setup is a long from the same 7,736 to 7,744 band. Its top now sits 39.25 points beneath the settle and 5.17 beneath Pivot S1 at 7,749.17. The stop is 7,722, 7.27 beneath the 7,729.27 conversion of the 7,690 dealer-positioning pivot and above Pivot S2 at 7,715.08. The targets are 7,758, 7,776 and an extended 7,794. The first two also sit beneath the settle, 7,758 by 25.25 and 7,776 by 7.25. Only 7,794 clears it. Per the dataset’s model levels, the 7,743.98 cash close sits 18.98 points above the 7,725 modeled volatility threshold (ES pair 7,760.17), 66.98 above the 7,677 modeled gamma-flip level (ES pair 7,712.17) and 53.98 above the 7,690 dealer-positioning pivot, with gamma notional positive. In the review’s judgment the first-order event on Thursday is the cash-session reaction to the search-advertising and software companies’ results alongside the 8:30 AM ET GDP and personal income and outlays release, as the calendar lists it.

Wednesday’s 7,750.25 low held 6.25 points above the 7,736 to 7,744 band

In Wednesday’s outlook we set a long from 7,736 to 7,744. Its stop sat at 7,722. The targets were 7,758, 7,776 and an extended 7,794. Wednesday’s completed bar, from the review and the dated 2026-10-28 row, opened at 7,761.75 at the Tuesday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 17.75 points above the band top. It marked a high of 7,819.50 and a low of 7,750.25, and settled at 7,783.25. The band never traded. The low held 6.25 points above its top.

The stop never traded either. The low sat 28.25 points above 7,722. Each target price printed inside the bar. The open itself sat 3.75 above the first, 7,758, and the low 7.75 beneath it. The high cleared the second, 7,776, by 43.50 and the extended 7,794 by 25.50. Those prints came with no print in the band. They say nothing about a filled long. No intraday series is available for Wednesday. The daily bar fixes the open, the two extremes and the settle, and nothing between them. It cannot place the high or the low in time. No fill and no result is asserted.

The invalidation tests read cleanly. The card negated its thesis on a settle beneath one standard deviation support at 7,704.57. The settle finished 78.68 points above that line, and the low 45.68 above it. Its acceptance test, two consecutive 30-minute closes beneath 7,736, needs 30-minute bars. None exist for Wednesday. The bar answers it anyway. The low held 14.25 above 7,736, so no 30-minute close beneath that line was possible.

The macro override named a statement or press conference read as raising the path of rate increases. The news feed carried a 10-2 vote to hold, with two members dissenting in favour of a 25 basis point increase. The provider’s commentary described the market reading of the outcome as slightly dovish, with the two-year yield down 4 basis points. That reading is the provider’s commentary. The override’s scenario, a move through the 7,722 stop, did not print. Its reference, Pivot S1 at 7,714.42, sat 35.83 beneath the low.

Our three full-day ranges split. The high-range case, 7,677 to 7,840, held, with the high 20.50 beneath its top and the low 73.25 above its bottom. The mid-range case, 7,704 to 7,812, lost its top by 7.50 while its bottom held by 46.25. The low-range case, 7,725 to 7,790, lost its top by 29.50; its bottom held by 25.25. Every session band kept its bottom. The low sat above the night band’s 7,740, London’s 7,735, the morning band’s 7,725 and the afternoon band’s 7,704. Their tops cannot be graded. The high cleared each of them, and the daily bar cannot place it in a session.

The weighted path missed its lean. Wednesday’s outlook expected a hold between one standard deviation support at 7,704.57 and resistance at 7,811.93. In that judgment a dip toward the Pivot Point at 7,743.58, holding above the 7,725.85 flip-level pair, was weighted slightly above a direct move through Pivot R1 at 7,787.42. The low stopped 6.67 points above that Pivot Point. The high cleared R1 by 32.08 and the 7,811.93 deviation line by 7.57, and the settle held 4.17 beneath R1. The named upside risk, a move through Pivot R1 toward the 7,811.93 band without the dip the setup needed, printed in the bar. We grade the card as written. The band and the stop never traded, the target prices printed with no entry, and the order is unknown.

The Pivot Point at 7,784.33, the 7,736 to 7,744 band and the 7,722 stop

The basis widened. Wednesday’s 7,783.25 settle less the 7,743.98 cash close measures 39.27 points, against 35.65 on Tuesday, and every cash equivalent in this article uses the new figure. The dataset keeps its own 35.17 point offset, 4.10 narrower. Its published futures pairs sit lower than a measured conversion: 8,135.17 for the 8,100 call-side ceiling, 8,035.17 for the 8,000 gamma concentration, 7,760.17 for the 7,725 modeled volatility threshold, 7,712.17 for the 7,677 modeled gamma-flip level and 7,535.17 for the 7,500 put-side support base.

Resistance starts 1.08 points up, at the Pivot Point of 7,784.33 (cash 7,745.06). The 7,789.27 conversion of the dataset’s 7,750 resistance sits 4.94 above it. The 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 7,802.38 and the 3-10 day crossover stall level at 7,804.14 follow, 1.76 apart. The next group is tight. Pivot R1 at 7,818.42 (cash 7,779.15), Wednesday’s 7,819.50 high (cash 7,780.23), the published target price at 7,819.97 and the 18-day stall level at 7,826.25 sit within 7.83 points.

Higher up, one standard deviation resistance at 7,831.42 (cash 7,792.15) and the 7,839.27 conversion of the 7,800 resistance sit 7.85 apart. Two standard deviations resistance at 7,851.38 (cash 7,812.11) sits 2.20 beneath Pivot R2 at 7,853.58 (cash 7,814.31). The one-range frame tops out at 7,863.85, and three standard deviations resistance sits at 7,866.69 (cash 7,827.42). Pivot R3 at 7,887.67 (cash 7,848.40) follows, 20.98 above that line. The one-month high of 7,897.50 from 10/06 (cash 7,858.23) and the 52-week and 13-week high of 7,905.00 from 08/13 (cash 7,865.73) sit higher. The last sits 121.75 points or 1.56 percent above the settle. The 8,035.17 concentration pair (cash 8,000) and the 8,135.17 ceiling pair (cash 8,100) complete the list.

Support starts 1.35 points down, at the 18-day crossing price for Thursday of 7,781.90. The 20-day average at 7,781.00 sits 0.90 beneath it. The 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 7,773.00 and Tuesday’s 7,772.75 high (cash 7,733.48) sit 0.25 apart. A tight group follows. The 14-day relative strength projection at 7,761.84, Wednesday’s 7,761.75 open (cash 7,722.48), the 40-day crossing price at 7,760.87, the 50-day average at 7,760.50 and the 7,760.17 threshold pair (cash 7,725) sit within 1.67 points. Tuesday’s 7,758.25 settle (cash 7,718.98) sits 1.92 beneath the pair.

Wednesday’s 7,750.25 low (cash 7,710.98) sits 1.08 above Pivot S1 at 7,749.17 (cash 7,709.90). S1 sits 5.17 above the band top. Three references sit inside the band: the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 7,743.62, 0.38 beneath the top, the 7,739.27 conversion of the dataset’s 7,700 level and the 9-day crossing price at 7,738.78. One standard deviation support at 7,735.08 (cash 7,695.81) sits just outside, 0.92 beneath the bottom. The 9-day average at 7,735.00 sits 1.00 beneath it.

The stop group comes next. The 7,729.27 conversion of the 7,690 dealer-positioning pivot sits 7.27 above the 7,722 stop, and the 5-day average at 7,724.00 sits 2.00 above it. Beneath the stop sit two standard deviations support at 7,715.12 (cash 7,675.85) and Pivot S2 at 7,715.08 (cash 7,675.81), 0.04 apart. The 7,712.17 flip-level pair (cash 7,677) follows. Then come the 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week high at 7,706.74 and the 7,702.65 bottom of the one-range frame.

The lows come next. Three standard deviations support at 7,699.81 (cash 7,660.54) sits 0.06 above Tuesday’s 7,699.75 low (cash 7,660.48). The 100-day average at 7,697.25 sits 2.50 beneath that low. Pivot S3 at 7,679.92 (cash 7,640.65) and Friday’s 7,648.50 low (cash 7,609.23), still the one-month low, follow. The 7,535.17 put-side pair (cash 7,500), the 200-day average at 7,422.25 and the 13-week low of 7,386.00 from 07/29 sit far lower.

Every average sits beneath the settle. The 5-day stands 59.25 points under it, the 9-day 48.25, the 20-day 2.25, the 50-day 22.75, the 100-day 86.00 and the 200-day 361.00. Each was rounded once to the 0.25 tick from the 259-session settlement series. The 20-day rose 3.50 from Tuesday’s 7,777.50 as the 09/30 settle of 7,715.50 left the window. The 5-day fell 3.50 from 7,727.50 as the 10/21 settle of 7,800.25 dropped out. The 50-day held at 7,760.50 after rounding. The stack still rises. The 30 older settlements in the 50-day window averaged 7,746.83, beneath the latest 20, which keeps the 20-day above the 50-day. Older windows sit lower. The 50 older settlements in the 100-day window averaged 7,634.11, and the 100 older settlements in the 200-day window 7,147.18. For Thursday the averages would be crossed at 7,738.78 for the 9-day, 7,781.90 for the 18-day and 7,760.87 for the 40-day.

Momentum sits just above the middle of its range. On the provider’s published readings, taken at about 6:25 PM ET on Wednesday after the 6:00 PM ET reopen, relative strength reads 53.48 on the 9-day, 51.96 on the 14-day and 51.66 on the 20-day. The provider may already blend the reopened session’s quote into them. The raw stochastic reads 78.80 percent on the 9-day and 56.50 percent on the 14-day. The smoothed 14-day %K at 43.40 percent sits above %D at 28.16 percent. Direction is split. On the 9-day, positive direction leads narrowly, 20.79 against 20.34 with the ADX at 23.23. On the 14-day, negative direction still leads, 21.41 against 19.28 with a low ADX of 16.69. Historic volatility reads 11.36 percent on the 9-day and 10.54 percent on the 14-day.

The composite multi-indicator read published for Thursday is 64 percent buy, up from the prior session’s hold. Its strength is described as weak and its direction as strongest. Last week’s snapshot read 40 percent buy and last month’s 32 percent buy. The short-horizon group averages 60 percent buy, the medium-horizon group 75 percent buy and the long-horizon group 67 percent buy. The trend indicator reads hold.

Wednesday’s range fell short of the averages. The 14-day average true range stands at 80.60 points and the 14-day average daily range at 81.63. The 9-day figures are 81.48 and 88.42 and the 20-day figures 79.97 and 81.22, all read after the reopen with the oscillators’ caveat. Wednesday’s 69.25 point range was 0.85 times the 14-day average daily range, the narrowest since the 65.75 of 10/23. One average true range either side of the settle frames Thursday between 7,702.65 and 7,863.85. The deviation bands are tighter. They run 7,735.08 to 7,831.42 at one deviation, 7,715.12 to 7,851.38 at two and 7,699.81 to 7,866.69 at three. Built from five settlements, they describe settlement dispersion only. The after-hours reaction to the results and Thursday’s morning data can carry the contract outside any of them. The dataset’s implied one-day move of 0.59 percent equals about 45.69 points on the 7,743.98 cash close.

Zoom out. Daily ranges over the last ten sessions ran 84.50, 133.50, 96.25, 87.00, 61.25, 122.00, 65.75, 87.75, 73.00 and 69.25 points. Settlement changes read plus 20.75, minus 86.75, plus 30.25, plus 20.75, plus 45.00, minus 95.75, minus 44.75, plus 54.75, plus 43.75 and plus 25.00. Settlements ran 7,791.00, 7,704.25, 7,734.50, 7,755.25, 7,800.25, 7,704.50, 7,659.75, 7,714.50, 7,758.25 and 7,783.25. That is the same ten-session stretch. Over five sessions the contract is down 17.00 points from the 7,800.25 settle of 10/21. It has recovered 78.75 points of the 95.75 point decline of 10/22. Wednesday’s bar left a 21.50 point body above the open. Its upper shadow above the settle measures 36.25 points and its lower shadow beneath the open 11.50. The settle sits 33.00 above the low and 36.25 beneath the high. The high sat 46.75 above Tuesday’s 7,772.75 and the low 50.50 above Tuesday’s 7,699.75. No four-hour series was captured. Swing structure rests on daily bars. The retracement grid for Thursday places the 50 percent level of the four-week range at 7,773.00, 10.25 beneath the settle. The 38.2 percent level from the four-week high sits above it at 7,802.38. Beneath sit the 38.2 percent levels from the four-week low at 7,743.62 and from the 13-week high at 7,706.74.

Crude rose 2.88 percent and the news feed carried a 10-2 hold

Wednesday’s bar carries no clock. It opened at 7,761.75 at the Tuesday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 3.50 points above Tuesday’s settle, and settled 21.50 points above that open. No intraday series exists for the session. The news items below keep their own times, and none is tied to a price move. Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Wednesday. So the open, high and low on the provider’s overview page after that hour, 7,767.75, 7,769.00 and 7,750.75, belong to the Thursday session. The provider’s previous close of 7,783.25 is Wednesday’s settle.

The decision came on schedule. The FOMC statement was released at 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it. The press conference began at 2:30 PM ET, as the calendar lists it. The news feed carried a 10-2 vote to hold, with two members dissenting in favour of a 25 basis point increase. The provider’s commentary described the market reading of the outcome as slightly dovish, with the two-year yield down 4 basis points. That description is the provider’s commentary. No intraday series places Wednesday’s moves against the 2:00 PM ET statement, and none is tied to it here.

Yields rose as the dollar slipped. The provider’s ten-year yield record closed at 5.05 percent against 4.99 percent. The dollar index closed at 102.19 in the provider’s daily record, down 0.13 from Tuesday’s 102.32. The volatility index closed at 16.91 against 17.52.

Leadership narrowed. The Nasdaq-100 cash index rose 0.55 percent and the semiconductor index 1.75 percent, against 0.28 percent for the S&P 500 cash index and 0.19 percent for the Dow industrials. The review reads that as leadership again in technology and semiconductors, by a narrower margin than on Tuesday. The provider’s commentary said chip stocks received a boost from favourable results at the world’s second-largest memory chipmaker. That is the provider’s commentary. No breadth series was captured, so no advance-decline figure is given.

Crude rallied. December WTI settled at 102.78, up 2.88 percent, and Brent’s December contract rose 1.26 percent to 115.32. December gold fell 0.56 percent to 4,051.6. The provider’s commentary listed the oil rally and the higher ten-year yield among the factors that undercut stocks. That list is the provider’s commentary, and no move is attributed to it here.

Gulf headlines ran through the day. At 3:57 AM ET the news feed carried an item that Qatari mediators had presented Iran with a new draft deal. Two press reports followed. At 11:59 AM ET it carried a press report that the Vice President was engaging an Iranian hard-liner to revive talks. At 3:44 PM ET it carried a press report that mediators and Iran were discussing a meeting in Turkey before November 4. These are reports and statements carried by the feeds rather than confirmed events. No move is attributed to any one of them.

Results arrived after the close. A search-advertising company and a software company reported after Wednesday’s close, as the calendar lists them for the date only. From 4:15 PM ET onward the news feed carried the first company’s statement that search query growth was the fastest in five years. Two more items followed. At 4:18 PM ET the news feed carried trailing twelve-month free cash flow down 73 percent from a year earlier. At 4:59 PM ET it carried an 8.2 billion dollar other-income loss, attributed to a fall in the value of a holding. Then came the after-hours prices. The provider’s commentary said the search-advertising company fell more than 7 percent and the software company rose more than 3 percent in after-hours trading. Those figures are attributed to that commentary and were not verified independently.

None of it is in the settlement. These items arrived after the 4:00 PM ET cash close. After the close the news feed also carried results from a parcel-delivery company, an online marketplace and an automaker, each beating its adjusted earnings estimate, per the news feed.

Activity eased. Wednesday’s December volume was 1,519,028 contracts on the 2026-10-28 row, against 1,556,188 on the revised 2026-10-27 row, a drop of 37,160 or 2.4 percent. Our Wednesday outlook carried the preliminary 1,509,451 for Tuesday. Tuesday’s open interest now reads 1,935,284 on the revised 2026-10-27 row; that outlook said it was not yet reported. Wednesday’s open interest was not yet reported.

The weekly positioning report dated October 20, shown on the provider’s overview, puts leveraged-fund long positions at 135,034 contracts and short positions at 506,279. That leaves a net short of 371,245 against 408,726 a week earlier. Asset-manager long positions stand at 1,101,642 and asset-manager short positions at 200,265. The report predates the moves of the last six sessions.

The cash close sits above the three nearest model lines. The dealer-positioning dataset used here takes the prior session’s closes as its reference prices. Its 7,722 index reference matches Tuesday’s 7,722.60 cash close to the whole point, and its 29,651 Nasdaq-100 reference Tuesday’s 29,651.44. Its narrative states a close of 7,744, up 0.3 percent. That is consistent with the provider’s 7,743.98 close, which this article uses. Tuesday’s 7,722.60 plus the 21.38 point gain gives 7,743.98, a 0.28 percent rise rounded.

Now the distances, in cash. The close sits 18.98 points above the 7,725 modeled volatility threshold (ES pair 7,760.17) and 66.98 above the 7,677 modeled gamma-flip level (ES pair 7,712.17). It sits 243.98 above the 7,500 put-side support base (ES pair 7,535.17) and 356.02 beneath the 8,100 call-side ceiling (ES pair 8,135.17). The largest gamma concentration sits at 8,000 (ES pair 8,035.17), 256.02 points above the close. In the dataset’s model, gamma tilt reads 1.112 and gamma notional plus 259.025 million dollars, against minus 286.688 million in the prior session’s read. The modeled threshold and flip level are model outputs; neither is an option strike.

The dataset draws its own map. Its summary lists resistance at 7,700, 7,720, 7,750 and 7,800, support at 7,600 and 7,400 and a dealer-positioning pivot at 7,690. Its key strikes are 8,000, 7,000, 7,700 and 7,800, all in cash. The close sits 53.98 points above that pivot. Two of the listed resistances sit beneath the close, 7,700 by 43.98 and 7,720 by 23.98. At the measured basis the pivot converts to 7,729.27, the 7,700 level to 7,739.27, the 7,750 resistance to 7,789.27 and the 7,800 resistance to 7,839.27. The dataset’s summary keeps a cautious stance beneath the 7,690 pivot and a constructive one once 7,700 is recovered. In the same summary a break of 7,600 points toward the 7,300s.

Its narrative describes the 7,725 strike as carrying very large positive gamma and an estimated dealer long call position at the 7,700 strike. It also describes index implied volatility as little changed after the decision, with the volatility term structure in backwardation. Those characterisations are the dataset’s, and no directional read is drawn from them here. Statements in the dataset about the order of intraday moves are excluded, because no intraday series is available to place them.

The dataset’s implied one-day move is 0.59 percent, about 45.69 points on the 7,743.98 close. Its implied one-day high and low of 7,785.52 and 7,694.18 are quoted as published. The console adds detail. The S&P 500 positioning console, read at about 6:26 PM ET, still carried the prior session’s 7,722.60 as its last closing price. It shows model call gamma of minus 3.88 billion against put gamma of minus 3.49 billion. It puts one-month implied volatility at 13.57 percent against realised volatility of 9.87 percent. Options price more movement than the index has recently delivered. The implied-volatility rank reads 20.61 percent, the skew rank 61.20 percent and the put-to-call open-interest ratio 1.46. Its high and low volatility point fields are treated as low-confidence and were not used.

Two gamma measures appear here. The dataset’s gamma notional and the console’s gamma fields come from different models and timestamps. They are not reconciled here, and neither is summed with the other.

Damping is the question for Thursday. In the review’s interpretation a cash close above the modeled volatility threshold, the modeled gamma-flip level and the dealer-positioning pivot, with gamma notional turning positive, describes a steadier environment than earlier in the week, in which dealer hedging is more likely to damp moves near the 7,700 to 7,725 area. That reading carries no direction of its own. The primary setup buys the 7,736 to 7,744 band, which holds the 7,739.27 conversion of 7,700. Its 7,722 stop sits beneath the 7,729.27 conversion of the 7,690 pivot.

The trade map for Thursday

The primary setup is a long from 7,736 to 7,744, the same band as Wednesday’s card. The cash index closed above the modeled volatility threshold, the modeled gamma-flip level and the dealer-positioning pivot, and the dataset’s gamma notional turned positive. Wednesday printed a third consecutive higher high and higher low. The settle sits above every settlement average from the 5-day to the 200-day, and the composite reads 64 percent buy. Now the band. It holds the 7,743.62 retracement, 0.38 beneath its top, the 7,739.27 conversion of 7,700 and the 9-day crossing price at 7,738.78. One standard deviation support at 7,735.08 sits just outside, 0.92 beneath its bottom. The whole band sits beneath the settle. Its top sits 39.25 points down, and its bottom 47.25. Pivot S1 at 7,749.17 and Wednesday’s 7,750.25 low sit above it. Then the stop. It sits at 7,722, 7.27 beneath the 7,729.27 conversion of the 7,690 pivot and 6.92 above Pivot S2 at 7,715.08. Targets step up from the band. The first, 7,758, sits 2.17 beneath the 7,760.17 threshold pair and 25.25 beneath the settle. The second, 7,776, sits 3.00 above the 50 percent retracement and 5.90 beneath the 18-day crossing price, still 7.25 beneath the settle. Only the extended 7,794 clears the settle, by 10.75. It sits 9.67 above the Pivot Point and 8.38 beneath the 7,802.38 retracement. The evidence against is plain. Negative direction still leads on the 14-day. The reopened session traded beneath the settle after the search-advertising company’s results, per the provider’s overview. The review calls the setup an analyst judgment that dips toward 7,700 in the cash index are bought. No measured edge stands behind it.

Primary setup for Thursday
Direction
Long
Entry Zone
7,736 to 7,744 (cash 7,696.73 to 7,704.73), holding the 7,743.62 retracement, the 7,739.27 conversion of the cash 7,700 level and the 9-day crossing price at 7,738.78; one standard deviation support at 7,735.08 sits 0.92 beneath the band
Stop Loss
7,722 (cash 7,682.73), 7.27 points beneath the 7,729.27 futures conversion of the dealer-positioning pivot and above Pivot S2 at 7,715.08
Target 1
7,758 (cash 7,718.73), beneath the dataset’s 7,760.17 pair of the modeled volatility threshold; 25.25 beneath Wednesday’s settle
Target 2
7,776 (cash 7,736.73), above the 50 percent retracement at 7,773.00 and beneath the 18-day average crossing price at 7,781.90; 7.25 beneath Wednesday’s settle
Target 3 (extended)
7,794 (cash 7,754.73), above the Pivot Point at 7,784.33 and beneath the 7,802.38 retracement; 10.75 above Wednesday’s settle
Risk-to-Reward
Approximately 1:1 to T1, 1:2 to T2 and 1:3 to T3, measured from the 7,740 midpoint of the entry zone against the 7,722 stop, a risk of 18 points
Invalidation
A settle beneath Pivot S2 at 7,715.08 negates the thesis. Short of that, the edge is removed by acceptance beneath the entry band, defined as two consecutive 30-minute closes beneath 7,736; a touch alone does not remove it
Macro override
A broad cash-session extension of the after-hours decline in the search-advertising company that the provider’s commentary reported, or GDP and inflation data read as raising the path of rate increases, would weigh on the index. In that scenario a move through the 7,722 stop invalidates the long before the targets, and the dataset’s 7,712.17 pair of the modeled gamma-flip level becomes the reference, 9.83 points beyond the stop and inside one 14-day average true range of 80.60 points
Status at Wednesday’s settle
7,783.25, 39.25 points above the band top; Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Wednesday

Now the arithmetic. From the 7,740 midpoint the risk to the stop is 18 points, 22.3 percent of the 14-day average true range of 80.60. The targets sit 18, 36 and 54 points above the midpoint. Exact multiples. The band sits wholly beneath the settle, its top 39.25 points down and its bottom 47.25. So the first two targets sit beneath the settle too, 7,758 by 25.25 and 7,776 by 7.25. Only 7,794 sits above it. A one-range frame from the settle, 7,702.65 to 7,863.85, ends 19.35 points beneath the stop and reaches 69.85 above the extended target. The invalidation line, Pivot S2 at 7,715.08, sits 68.17 points beneath the settle and 6.92 beneath the stop.

The session bands are the review’s analyst judgment. Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. The provider’s overview showed the new session trading beneath Wednesday’s settle at the time of capture, after the search-advertising company’s results. Through the night session to 3:00 AM ET Thursday the review expects roughly 7,735 to 7,785, with a neutral bias above Pivot S1 at 7,749.17. Australian import and export prices are listed at 8:30 PM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. London, from 3:00 AM to 8:00 AM ET, runs roughly 7,730 to 7,790 with a neutral bias. UK consumer credit and mortgage approvals are listed at 5:30 AM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Those labels need care. The review names the Pivot Point the first resistance and Pivot S1 the first support for London. The Pivot Point is the first reference above the settle, 1.08 points up. Pivot S1 is the first pivot support, 34.08 beneath the settle. Eleven references from 7,781.90 down to Wednesday’s 7,750.25 low sit between the settle and it.

The cash-session bands, also analyst judgment, are wider. GDP and the personal income and outlays report are scheduled for 8:30 AM ET, as the calendar lists them. Weekly jobless claims are listed at 8:30 AM ET and the European Central Bank decision at 9:15 AM ET, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The 9:30 AM ET cash open is the first directional test of the overnight reaction to the results. The morning band, 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM ET, runs roughly 7,715 to 7,820. The 7,736 to 7,744 setup band sits in its lower part, 21.00 above its bottom. The seven-year note auction is listed at 1:00 PM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The afternoon band, 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET, runs roughly 7,715 to 7,832. Its edges sit near Pivot S2 at 7,715.08 and one standard deviation resistance at 7,831.42, each just inside. The scenario ranges, also analyst judgment, run 7,740 to 7,800 for the low-range case, 7,715 to 7,832 for the mid-range case, the most likely, and 7,680 to 7,864 for the high-range case.

The week fills in after that. The calendar lists results from a card-payments company and a drugmaker for Thursday, and results from an online retailer and a chipmaker after Thursday’s close, for the date only. Globex reopens at 6:00 PM ET on Thursday after the 5:00 PM ET halt. The Bank of Japan decision is listed at 11:30 PM ET on Thursday, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Friday brings two items. The employment cost index is set for 8:30 AM ET on Friday, October 30, 2026, and results from an oil major for 6:30 AM ET that day, as the calendar lists them. Results from a consumer-electronics company follow on Monday, November 2, as the calendar lists them. The midterm elections are listed for Tuesday, November 3, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed.

One path is weighted. In the review’s analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between Pivot S2 at 7,715.08 and one standard deviation resistance at 7,831.42. In the same judgment, a dip toward the 7,736 to 7,744 band that holds above 7,722 is weighted slightly above a direct recovery through the Pivot Point at 7,784.33. It rests on judgment. The review weighs it that way because the settle sits above every average, the composite reads 64 percent buy and gamma notional turned positive. In the same judgment, the reopened session trading beneath the settle after the results argues for a test lower first. One alternative is named. A settle beneath Pivot S2 after the 8:30 AM ET data, as the calendar lists it, would invalidate the reading. At the measured basis that line equals about 7,675.81 in cash. The review says it would open the 7,712.17 flip-level pair and Pivot S3 at 7,679.92. The other risk runs upward. Acceptance above Pivot R1 at 7,818.42 would put the 7,819.97 target price and the 7,831.42 deviation line in play without the dip the setup needs.

Wednesday’s low stopped 6.25 points above the band; Thursday’s long sits in the same place, now 39.25 points beneath the settle.

1. Executive Summary

The December S&P 500 contract settled at 7,783.25 on Wednesday, up 25.00 or 0.32 percent from Tuesday's settle of 7,758.25, after trading between 7,819.50 and 7,750.25, a 69.25 point daily range. The settle finished at 47.7 percent of the range, near the middle, and the 69.25 point range was 0.85 multiples of the published 14-day average daily range of 81.63 points. Wednesday's high sat 46.75 points above Tuesday's 7,772.75 high and Wednesday's low sat 50.50 points above Tuesday's 7,699.75 low, so the session printed a higher high and a higher low. The gain was the third consecutive higher settle, the 7,783.25 settle was the highest since the 7,800.25 settle of 10/21, and the 7,819.50 high was the highest session high since the 7,879.75 high of 10/14.

The S&P 500 cash index closed at 7,743.98, up 21.38 or 0.28 percent, while the Nasdaq-100 cash index rose 0.55 percent, the semiconductor index 1.75 percent and the Dow industrials 0.19 percent. December WTI crude rose 2.88 percent to 102.78, the dollar index closed at 102.19 against 102.32, the provider's ten-year yield record closed at 5.05 percent against 4.99 percent and the volatility index closed at 16.91 against 17.52. The FOMC statement was released at 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the news feed carried a 10-2 vote to hold, with two dissents in favour of an increase.

After the close the news feed carried the search-advertising company's results from 4:15 PM ET onward, and the provider's commentary said the search-advertising company fell more than 7 percent and the software company rose more than 3 percent in after-hours trading, figures attributed to that commentary and not verified independently. These items arrived after the cash close, so they are not part of Wednesday's settlement; no intraday series is available for any path claim, and this review does not attribute the session's move to any single item.

The cash close sits 18.98 points above the modeled volatility threshold at SPX 7,725, 66.98 points above the modeled gamma-flip level at SPX 7,677 and 53.98 points above the dealer-positioning pivot at SPX 7,690, with gamma notional positive in the dataset read for this review. The composite multi-indicator read is "64% BUY", up from "HOLD", with strength "Weak" and direction "Strongest", and the settle sits above every settlement average from the 5-day to the 200-day. The primary setup is a long from the 7,736 to 7,744 band around one standard deviation support at 7,735.08, stopped at 7,722, with objectives at 7,758, 7,776 and an extended 7,794.

2. Price Action & Technical Structure

2.1 Intraday and Session Review

The Wednesday session opened at 7,761.75 at the Tuesday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 3.50 points above Tuesday's settle, marked a daily high of 7,819.50 and a daily low of 7,750.25, and settled at 7,783.25. This review makes no claim about the order in which the high and the low printed; the daily bar fixes the open, the extremes and the settle, and that is the evidence used here.

The settle sits 33.00 points above the low and 36.25 points beneath the high, so the session closed just beneath the midpoint of its range. The body of the daily bar measures 21.50 points from the 7,761.75 open to the 7,783.25 settle, with an upper shadow of 36.25 points above the settle and a lower shadow of 11.50 points beneath the open.

Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET, so the open, high and low shown on the provider's overview page, 7,767.75, 7,769.00 and 7,750.75, belong to the new Thursday session and not to Wednesday's completed session. The provider's previous close of 7,783.25 is Wednesday's settle.

Wednesday's completed-session extremes are the completed-session inputs behind the published pivot ladder rather than an independently read bar. Pivot R3 at 7,887.67 minus Pivot S3 at 7,679.92, divided by three, returns 69.25, and Pivot R2 at 7,853.58 minus Pivot S2 at 7,715.08, divided by two, returns the same 69.25. Three times the Pivot Point of 7,784.33 less the 7,783.25 settle gives a high plus low sum of 15,569.74, which the pair of 7,819.50 and 7,750.25 reproduces to within the published rounding at 15,569.75, and that pair reproduces all seven published rungs.

The provider's settlement row and the chart's completed daily bar carry the same 7,761.75 open, 7,819.50 high, 7,750.25 low and 7,783.25 settle.

2.2 Daily Structure

Wednesday's 7,819.50 high sits 46.75 points above Tuesday's 7,772.75, and the 7,750.25 low sits 50.50 points above Tuesday's 7,699.75, so the session printed a higher high and a higher low for a third consecutive session. Settlements over the last six sessions read 7,800.25, 7,704.50, 7,659.75, 7,714.50, 7,758.25 and 7,783.25 from 10/21, so the contract has recovered 78.75 points of the 95.75 point decline of 10/22.

The provider's published one-month high is 7,897.50 from 10/06, the 52-week and 13-week high is 7,905.00, the one-month low is Friday's 7,648.50 and the 13-week low is 7,386.00. The five-day change is minus 17.00 points from the 7,800.25 settle of 10/21.

2.3 4-Hour and Swing Structure

Daily ranges for the last eight sessions ran 96.25, 87.00, 61.25, 122.00, 65.75, 87.75, 73.00 and 69.25 from 10/19, and the settlement changes over the same eight sessions read plus 30.25, plus 20.75, plus 45.00, minus 95.75, minus 44.75, plus 54.75, plus 43.75 and plus 25.00.

The retracement grid published for Thursday places the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 7,773.00, 10.25 points beneath the settle, and the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 7,802.38 above it. Beneath, the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low sits at 7,743.62 and the 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week high at 7,706.74. No four-hour series was captured for this session, so swing structure here rests on daily bars only.

2.4 Moving Averages

The averages cited in this subsection were computed from the provider's daily settlement series for the December contract, which holds 259 completed sessions through Wednesday; the partial Thursday row of the reopened Globex session was dropped before counting. Rounded once to the quarter-point tick, the 5-day average stands at 7,724.00, the 9-day at 7,735.00, the 20-day at 7,781.00, the 50-day at 7,760.50, the 100-day at 7,697.25 and the 200-day at 7,422.25.

The 7,783.25 settle sits 59.25 points above the 5-day average, 48.25 points above the 9-day, 2.25 points above the 20-day, 22.75 points above the 50-day, 86.00 points above the 100-day and 361.00 points above the 200-day, so it sits above all six. The 5-day average fell 3.50 points from Tuesday's 7,727.50, because the 10/21 settle of 7,800.25 left the window and was replaced by 7,783.25. The 20-day rose 3.50 points from 7,777.50, because the 09/30 settle of 7,715.50 left that window, and the 50-day held at 7,760.50 after rounding.

The 20-day average sits above the 50-day because the 30 older settlements in the 50-day window averaged lower, at 7,746.83. The 50-day sits above the 100-day because the 50 older settlements in the 100-day window averaged lower, at 7,634.11, and the 100-day sits above the 200-day because the 100 older settlements in the 200-day window averaged lower, at 7,147.18. The projection grid gives the prices at which each average would be crossed on Thursday: 7,738.78 for the 9-day, 7,781.90 for the 18-day and 7,760.87 for the 40-day.

2.5 Oscillator and Trend Readings

The oscillator figures below are as published on the provider's technical page, read at about 6:25 PM ET on Wednesday after the 6:00 PM ET reopen, so the provider may already be blending the reopened session's quote into them; they are the provider's published readings, and none was computed for this review. As published, the 9-day relative strength reads 53.48, the 14-day relative strength 51.96 and the 20-day relative strength 51.66.

The 9-day raw stochastic reads 78.80 percent and the 14-day raw stochastic 56.50 percent, while the 14-day stochastic %K reads 43.40 percent and the 14-day stochastic %D 28.16 percent, so %K sits above %D.

The 9-day directional index ADX reads 23.23 with the 9-day +DI at 20.79 and the 9-day -DI at 20.34, so positive direction now leads narrowly on the 9-day; the 14-day directional index ADX reads 16.69 with the 14-day +DI at 19.28 and the 14-day -DI at 21.41, so negative direction still leads on the 14-day. The 9-day historic volatility reads 11.36 percent and the 14-day historic volatility 10.54 percent.

The composite multi-indicator read published for the Thursday session is "64% BUY", against the prior session's snapshot of "HOLD", with signal strength described as "Weak" and direction as "Strongest". The snapshot history reads "40% BUY" a week ago and "32% BUY" a month ago. The short-horizon group averages "60% BUY", the medium-horizon group "75% BUY" and the long-horizon group "67% BUY", and the composite trend indicator reads hold.

2.6 Volatility and Expected Range

The published 14-day average true range stands at 80.60 points and the 14-day average daily range at 81.63 points; the 9-day average true range is 81.48 with a 9-day average daily range of 88.42, and the 20-day average true range is 79.97 with a 20-day average daily range of 81.22. These were read after the reopen and carry the same caveat as the oscillators. Wednesday's 69.25 point range was 0.85 multiples of the 14-day average daily range.

Adding and subtracting the 14-day average true range of 80.60 points from the 7,783.25 settle frames Thursday between 7,702.65 and 7,863.85. The published standard-deviation bands are built from five settlements: one deviation spans 7,735.08 to 7,831.42, two spans 7,715.12 to 7,851.38 and three spans 7,699.81 to 7,866.69. The dataset's published implied one-day move is 0.59 percent, with an implied high of SPX 7,785.52 and low of SPX 7,694.18 quoted as published. These bands describe dispersion, not intraday reach, and the after-hours reaction to the search-advertising and software companies' results, followed by GDP and inflation data on Thursday morning, can carry the contract outside any of them.

3. Key Levels

3.1 Resistance

Above the 7,783.25 settle, the first overhead references are the Pivot Point at 7,784.33 and the 7,789.27 conversion of the SPX 7,750 resistance at the measured basis, followed by the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 7,802.38 and the 3-10 day crossover stall level at 7,804.14. Pivot R1 at 7,818.42, Wednesday's 7,819.50 high, the published target price at 7,819.97 and the 18-day average stall level at 7,826.25 form the next band. One standard deviation resistance at 7,831.42, the 7,839.27 conversion of the SPX 7,800 resistance and Pivot R2 at 7,853.58 come next, with Pivot R3 at 7,887.67 the extended reference.

3.2 Support

Beneath the settle sits the 18-day average crossing price at 7,781.90 and the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 7,773.00, then the 14-day relative strength projection at 50 percent, 7,761.84, the 40-day average crossing price at 7,760.87 and the source's December pair of the modeled volatility threshold at 7,760.17. Wednesday's 7,750.25 low, Pivot S1 at 7,749.17, the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 7,743.62, the 7,739.27 conversion of SPX 7,700, the 9-day average crossing price at 7,738.78 and one standard deviation support at 7,735.08 form the next band. The 7,729.27 conversion of the SPX 7,690 dealer-positioning pivot, Pivot S2 at 7,715.08, the source's December pair of the modeled gamma-flip level at 7,712.17, Pivot S3 at 7,679.92 and Friday's 7,648.50 low, the one-month low, are the extended references.

4. Macro Drivers

4.1 Dollar, Rates, and Fed Policy

The dollar index closed at 102.19 in the provider's daily record, down 0.13 from Tuesday's 102.32, and the provider's ten-year yield record closed at 5.05 percent against 4.99 percent. The FOMC statement was released at 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the press conference began at 2:30 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it. The news feed carried a 10-2 vote to hold, with two members dissenting in favour of a 25 basis point increase, and the provider's commentary described the market reading of the outcome as slightly dovish, with the two-year yield down 4 basis points.

4.2 Large-Cap Leadership and Earnings

Results from a search-advertising company and a software company were released after the close on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists them for the date only. The news feed carried from 4:15 PM ET onward the search-advertising company's statement that search query growth was the fastest in five years, at 4:18 PM ET trailing twelve-month free cash flow down 73 percent from a year earlier, and at 4:59 PM ET an 8.2 billion dollar other-income loss attributed to a fall in the value of a holding. The provider's commentary said the search-advertising company fell more than 7 percent and the software company rose more than 3 percent in after-hours trading, figures attributed to that commentary and not verified independently.

After the close the news feed also carried results from a parcel-delivery company, an online marketplace and an automaker, each beating its adjusted earnings estimate, per the news feed. Results from an online retailer and a chipmaker are due after the close on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them for the date only.

4.3 Geopolitical Backdrop

The news feed carried at 3:57 AM ET an item that Qatari mediators had presented Iran with a new draft deal, at 11:59 AM ET a press report that the Vice President was engaging an Iranian hard-liner to revive talks, and at 3:44 PM ET a press report that mediators and Iran were discussing a meeting in Turkey before November 4. December WTI crude rose 2.88 percent to 102.78, and the provider's commentary listed the oil rally and the higher ten-year yield among the factors that undercut stocks. These are reports and statements carried by the feeds rather than confirmed events.

4.4 Sector Breadth and Rotation

The Nasdaq-100 cash index's 0.55 percent gain and the semiconductor index's 1.75 percent gain outpaced the S&P 500 cash index's 0.28 percent and the Dow industrials' 0.19 percent, so leadership again sat in technology and semiconductors, by a narrower margin than on Tuesday. The provider's commentary said chip stocks received a boost from favourable results at the world's second-largest memory chipmaker. No breadth series was captured for this session, so no advance-decline figure is asserted.

4.5 Cross-Asset and Volatility

The volatility index closed at 16.91 against 17.52 on Tuesday. December WTI crude rose 2.88 percent to 102.78 and Brent's December contract 1.26 percent to 115.32, while gold's December contract fell 0.56 percent to 4,051.6. The S&P 500 positioning console shows one-month implied volatility of 13.57 percent against realised volatility of 9.87 percent, so options price more movement than the index has recently delivered.

4.6 Institutional Positioning

The weekly positioning report dated October 20, shown on the provider's overview, puts leveraged-fund long positions at 135,034 contracts and short positions at 506,279, a net short of 371,245 against 408,726 a week earlier, and asset-manager long positions at 1,101,642 against short positions of 200,265. The report predates the moves of the last six sessions.

Open interest on the December contract is shown at 1,935,284 for Tuesday in the provider's record, and Wednesday's open interest had not been reported at the time of capture; Wednesday's December volume was 1,519,028 contracts.

5. SPX Options Flow Context

The dealer-positioning dataset read for this section uses the prior session's closes as its reference prices, not Wednesday's: SPX 7,722 matches Tuesday's 7,722.60 cash close to the whole point and NDX 29,651 matches Tuesday's 29,651.44. Its narrative states a close of 7,744, up 0.3 percent, consistent with the provider's 7,743.98 close, and 7,722.60 plus the 21.38 point gain, a 0.28 percent rise rounded, gives 7,743.98; every level below is read against the provider's close.

On the index the primary call side ceiling sits at SPX 8,100, the largest gamma concentration at SPX 8,000, the modeled volatility threshold at SPX 7,725, the modeled gamma-flip level at SPX 7,677 and the primary put side support base at SPX 7,500. The close sits 356.02 points beneath the ceiling, 256.02 points beneath the largest concentration, 18.98 points above the threshold, 66.98 points above the flip level and 243.98 points above the put side base. Gamma tilt reads 1.112 and gamma notional plus 259.025 million dollars, against minus 286.688 million in the prior session's dataset read. The dataset's summary lists resistance at 7,700, 7,720, 7,750 and 7,800, support at 7,600 and 7,400 and its dealer-positioning pivot at 7,690, 53.98 points beneath the close, and its key strikes are SPX 8,000, 7,000, 7,700 and 7,800.

The dataset publishes its own December futures pair for each level, carrying the source's 35.17 point offset rather than the measured 39.27 point basis: the ceiling at 8,135.17, the largest concentration at 8,035.17, the modeled volatility threshold at 7,760.17, the modeled gamma-flip level at 7,712.17 and the put side support base at 7,535.17. These are quoted as the source's pairs. The modeled threshold and flip level are model outputs, not option strikes. At the measured basis the SPX 7,690 pivot converts to 7,729.27, SPX 7,700 to 7,739.27, the SPX 7,750 resistance to 7,789.27 and the SPX 7,800 resistance to 7,839.27.

The dataset's summary keeps a cautious stance beneath the 7,690 pivot and a constructive one once SPX 7,700 is recovered, with a break of SPX 7,600 pointing toward the 7,300s. Its narrative describes the 7,725 strike as carrying very large positive gamma and an estimated dealer long call position at the 7,700 strike, index implied volatility little changed after the decision, and a volatility term structure in backwardation. Statements in the dataset about the order of intraday moves are excluded, because no intraday series is available to place them.

The S&P 500 positioning console, read at about 6:26 PM ET, still carried the prior session's 7,722.60 as its last closing price and shows call gamma of minus 3.88 billion against put gamma of minus 3.49 billion, one-month implied volatility of 13.57 percent against realised volatility of 9.87 percent, an implied-volatility rank of 20.61 percent, a skew rank of 61.20 percent and a put-to-call open-interest ratio of 1.46. The console's high and low volatility point fields are treated as low-confidence and excluded.

In this review's interpretation a cash close above the modeled volatility threshold, the modeled gamma-flip level and the dealer-positioning pivot, with the dataset's gamma notional turning positive, describes a steadier environment than earlier in the week, in which dealer hedging is more likely to damp moves near the 7,700 to 7,725 area. The primary setup buys the 7,736 to 7,744 band, which holds the 7,739.27 conversion of SPX 7,700, with the 7,722 stop beneath the 7,729.27 conversion of the SPX 7,690 pivot.

6. Forecast

6.1 Night Session (6:00 PM ET Wednesday to 3:00 AM ET Thursday, Globex/Asia)

Australian import and export prices are listed at 8:30 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Bias neutral above Pivot S1 at 7,749.17, expected band roughly 7,735 to 7,785.

6.2 London Session (3:00 AM to 8:00 AM ET Thursday)

UK consumer credit and mortgage approvals are listed at 5:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Bias neutral, expected band roughly 7,730 to 7,790, with the Pivot Point at 7,784.33 the first resistance, 1.08 above the settle, and Pivot S1 at 7,749.17 the first pivot support, 34.08 beneath the settle, with eleven references from 7,781.90 down to Wednesday's 7,750.25 low between the settle and it.

6.3 Morning Session (9:30 AM to 12:00 PM ET Thursday, RTH Open)

GDP and the personal income and outlays report are scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them, and the European Central Bank decision is listed at 9:15 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The cash open at 9:30 AM ET is the first directional test of the overnight reaction to the results. Expected band roughly 7,715 to 7,820, with the 7,736 to 7,744 setup band in the lower part of that range.

6.4 Afternoon Session (12:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET Thursday)

The seven-year note auction is listed at 1:00 PM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Expected band roughly 7,715 to 7,832, with the outer edges near Pivot S2 at 7,715.08 and one standard deviation resistance at 7,831.42, each just inside the band.

6.5 Night Session Forward (6:00 PM ET Thursday)

Globex reopens at 6:00 PM ET on Thursday after the 5:00 PM ET halt. Results from an online retailer and a chipmaker are due after the close on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them for the date only, and the Bank of Japan decision is listed at 11:30 PM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed.

6.6 Expected Range (Thursday Full Session)

Low-range scenario: 7,740 to 7,800

Mid-range scenario (most likely): 7,715 to 7,832

High-range scenario: 7,680 to 7,864

6.7 Most Likely Path

In this review's analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between Pivot S2 at 7,715.08 and one standard deviation resistance at 7,831.42, with a dip toward the 7,736 to 7,744 band that holds above 7,722 weighted slightly above a direct recovery through the Pivot Point at 7,784.33. The settle sits above every settlement average from the 5-day to the 200-day, the composite reads "64% BUY" and the dataset's gamma notional turned positive, while the reopened session trading beneath the settle after the search-advertising company's results argues, in the same judgment, for a test lower before any recovery.

The alternative that would invalidate this reading is a settle beneath Pivot S2 at 7,715.08 after the 8:30 AM ET GDP and personal income and outlays reports on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them, which would open the source's 7,712.17 pair of the modeled gamma-flip level and Pivot S3 at 7,679.92. On the other side, acceptance above Pivot R1 at 7,818.42 would put the published target price at 7,819.97 and one standard deviation resistance at 7,831.42 in play without the dip the setup needs.

7. Thursday Economic Calendar

Wednesday's releases are complete. The FOMC statement was released at 2:00 PM ET and the press conference began at 2:30 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, both as the calendar lists them; the news feed carried a 10-2 vote to hold. Results from the search-advertising company and the software company were released after the close on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists them.

On Thursday, October 29, 2026 UK consumer credit is listed at 5:30 AM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. GDP and the personal income and outlays report are scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them, with weekly jobless claims listed at 8:30 AM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The European Central Bank decision is listed at 9:15 AM ET and the seven-year note auction at 1:00 PM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Results from a card-payments company and a drugmaker are listed for Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them, and results from an online retailer and a chipmaker are due after the close on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them for the date only.

Later in the cycle, the employment cost index is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Friday, October 30, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and results from an oil major for 6:30 AM ET on Friday, October 30, 2026, as the calendar lists them. Results from a consumer-electronics company are listed for Monday, November 2, 2026, as the calendar lists them, and the midterm elections are listed for Tuesday, November 3, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. In this review's judgment the first-order event for the S&P 500 on Thursday is the cash-session reaction to the search-advertising and software companies' results alongside the 8:30 AM ET GDP and personal income and outlays release, as the calendar lists it.

8. Primary Trade Setup

Direction: Long

Rationale: The settle sits above every settlement average from the 5-day to the 200-day, Wednesday printed a third consecutive higher high and higher low, the composite reads "64% BUY" and the dataset's gamma notional turned positive with the cash close above the modeled volatility threshold and the dealer-positioning pivot. A dip into the 7,736 to 7,744 band, around one standard deviation support at 7,735.08, 0.92 beneath its bottom, and the 7,739.27 conversion of SPX 7,700 inside it, offers a long with a defined risk point beneath the 7,729.27 conversion of the SPX 7,690 pivot. The after-hours decline in the search-advertising company, as the provider's commentary reported it, can extend the dip, so the setup is an analyst judgment that dips toward SPX 7,700 are bought, not a measured edge.

Entry Zone: 7,736 to 7,744

Stop Loss: 7,722 (7.27 points beneath the 7,729.27 futures conversion of the dealer-positioning pivot and above Pivot S2 at 7,715.08)

Target 1 (T1): 7,758 (beneath the source's 7,760.17 pair of the modeled volatility threshold)

Target 2 (T2): 7,776 (above the 50 percent retracement at 7,773.00 and beneath the 18-day average crossing price at 7,781.90)

Target 3 (T3, extended): 7,794 (above the Pivot Point at 7,784.33 and beneath the 7,802.38 retracement)

Risk-to-Reward: Approximately 1:1 to T1, 1:2 to T2, 1:3 to T3

Invalidation: A settle beneath Pivot S2 at 7,715.08 negates the thesis. Short of that, the edge is removed by acceptance beneath the entry band rather than by a touch, defined as two consecutive 30-minute closes beneath 7,736.

Macro override: A broad cash-session extension of the after-hours decline in the search-advertising company that the provider's commentary reported, or GDP and inflation data read as raising the path of rate increases, would weigh on the index. In that scenario a move through the 7,722 stop invalidates the long before the targets, and the source's 7,712.17 pair of the modeled gamma-flip level becomes the reference, 9.83 points beyond the stop and inside one 14-day average true range of 80.60 points.

Sources and methodology

This outlook is built from our session review of the December E-mini S&P 500 contract, the December ’26 contract, prepared after Wednesday’s close on October 28, 2026 for the Thursday, October 29, 2026 session. Wednesday’s completed extremes are the inputs behind the published pivot ladder: Pivot R3 at 7,887.67 less Pivot S3 at 7,679.92, divided by three, and Pivot R2 at 7,853.58 less Pivot S2 at 7,715.08, divided by two, both return 69.25, and three times the 7,784.33 Pivot Point less the settle gives a high-plus-low sum of 15,569.74, which the pair of 7,819.50 and 7,750.25 reproduces to the published rounding at 15,569.75. The provider’s settlement row and the chart’s completed Wednesday daily bar carry the same 7,761.75 open, 7,819.50 high, 7,750.25 low and 7,783.25 settle. Those figures and the review’s own statements are the only evidence used to grade Wednesday’s card. No intraday series is available for Wednesday, so no order of events within the session is stated. Tuesday’s volume now reads 1,556,188 contracts on the revised 2026-10-27 row, which replaces the preliminary 1,509,451 carried in Wednesday’s outlook, and that row’s open interest reads 1,935,284; that post was not changed. Wednesday’s open interest was not yet reported. Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET, so the overview page’s open, high and low after that hour belong to the Thursday session and are not used as Wednesday’s range.

The moving averages were computed from the provider’s 259-session daily settlement series through Wednesday and rounded once to the 0.25 tick; the partial row of the reopened Thursday session was dropped first. The oscillators and range averages are cited as published, read at about 6:25 PM ET on Wednesday after the reopen, so the provider may already blend the reopened session’s quote into them. The dealer-positioning dataset uses Tuesday’s closes as its reference prices and a fixed 35.17 point translation for its futures column, so cash equivalents here use the 39.27 point basis measured on Wednesday, settlement against cash close. The dataset’s implied one-day high and low pair is quoted as published, and its statements about the order of intraday moves are excluded because no intraday series is available to place them. The dataset’s gamma notional and the console’s call and put gamma are separate model measures from different timestamps; they are shown side by side, each with its source, and never combined. The console’s high and low volatility point fields are not used. The weekly positioning report is dated October 20. Scenario ranges are analyst judgment. Items marked unconfirmed come from the news-feed calendar, and every catalyst whose release time had passed at the time of writing is recorded as completed.

Wednesday’s outlook for this contract is here, and the Nasdaq-100 contract’s Wednesday outlook set the levels for the index whose cash close rose 0.55 percent on Wednesday. Outlooks for ES, NQ, GC and CL are collected on the market outlook page, and our forward trading record is on the performance statement.
