Market OutlookPublished For the session59 min readby AlgoIndex Research Team
S&P Futures 7,758.25: Long 7,736 to 7,744 at the Pivot Point

December S&P futures settled at 7,758.25, up 43.75 with a higher high and a higher low. Levels, the 7,736 to 7,744 long and Wednesday's FOMC calendar.

At 7,772.75, Tuesday’s high in the December S&P 500 contract ran 26.75 points through the top of the 7,738 to 7,746 short zone in our Tuesday outlook and 12.75 points through its 7,760 stop. The band traded. So did the stop. The low of 7,699.75 printed beneath the first two targets, 7,724 and 7,706, the second by 6.25 points. The daily bar cannot say which came first, so no fill and no result is asserted. The contract settled at 7,758.25.

Tuesday extended the rebound. December E-mini futures settled at 7,758.25, up 43.75 points or 0.57 percent, after a 73.00 point session from 7,699.75 to 7,772.75. Higher high, higher low. It was a second consecutive higher settle after the declines of 10/22 and 10/23, and the highest settle since the 7,800.25 of 10/21. The settle finished at 80.1 percent of the range. That range ran 0.89 times the 14-day average daily range of 82.05 points, the narrowest since the 65.75 of 10/23. The S&P 500 cash index closed at 7,722.60, up 45.83 or 0.60 percent. Semiconductors led. The FOMC statement comes Wednesday at 2:00 PM ET, as the calendar lists it.

At a glance

December S&P 500 futures settled at 7,758.25 on Tuesday. That sits above the 5-day, 9-day, 100-day and 200-day settlement averages and beneath the 20-day at 7,777.50 and the 50-day at 7,760.50. Wednesday’s setup is a long. The band runs from 7,736 to 7,744 and holds the Pivot Point at 7,743.58 and the 7,736.85 threshold pair. The stop is 7,722, beneath the 7,725.85 flip-level pair and above Pivot S1 at 7,714.42, and the targets are 7,758, 7,776 and an extended 7,794. The whole band sits beneath the settle, its top 14.25 points down. The first target sits 0.25 beneath the settle, and the second 17.75 above it. Per the dataset’s model levels, the 7,722.60 cash close sits 22.60 points above the 7,700 modeled volatility threshold (ES pair 7,736.85), 33.60 above the 7,689 modeled gamma-flip level (ES pair 7,725.85) and 32.60 above the 7,690 dealer-positioning pivot, with gamma notional negative. In the review’s judgment the first-order event on Wednesday is the FOMC statement at 2:00 PM ET and the press conference at 2:30 PM ET, as the calendar lists them.

Tuesday’s 7,772.75 high ran through the 7,738 to 7,746 band and the 7,760 stop

In Tuesday’s outlook we set a short from 7,738 to 7,746. Its stop sat at 7,760. The targets were 7,724, 7,706 and an extended 7,688. Tuesday’s completed bar, from the review and the dated 2026-10-27 row, opened at 7,715.00 at the Monday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 23.00 points beneath the band bottom. It marked a high of 7,772.75 and a low of 7,699.75, and settled at 7,758.25. The band traded. The high ran 26.75 points above its top, and the low 38.25 beneath its bottom.

The stop traded too. The high finished 12.75 points above 7,760, and the settle 1.75 beneath it. Two targets printed. The low sat 24.25 points beneath the first target, 7,724, and 6.25 beneath the second, 7,706. The open itself sat 9.00 beneath 7,724. The extended 7,688 never printed; the low held 11.75 above it. No intraday series is available for Tuesday. The daily bar fixes the open, the two extremes and the settle, and nothing between them. So it cannot say whether the stop or the targets traded first, or whether the low came before the band. No fill and no result is asserted.

The invalidation line held. The card negated its thesis on a settle above one standard deviation resistance at 7,767.76. The high traded 4.99 points above that line, but the test is a settle, and the 7,758.25 settle finished 9.51 beneath it. Its acceptance test, two consecutive 30-minute closes above 7,746, needs 30-minute bars. None exist for Tuesday. The bar cannot settle that test either way. The settle sat 12.25 above 7,746, and the high 26.75 above it.

The macro override named two conditions. The first was a cash index recovery of 7,700 with a firmer advance in technology shares. The cash index closed at 7,722.60, 22.60 points above 7,700. The Nasdaq-100 cash index rose 1.29 percent and the semiconductor index 3.60 percent. The second was a decisive drop in yields. It did not print. The ten-year yield index closed at 4.99 percent against 4.98. The override’s scenario, a move through the 7,760 stop, printed in the daily bar. Its reference, one standard deviation resistance at 7,767.76, sat 4.99 beneath the 7,772.75 high.

One of our three full-day ranges held. The high-range case, 7,632 to 7,797, held with the high 24.25 points beneath its top and the low 67.75 above its bottom. The mid-range case, 7,661 to 7,768, lost its top by 4.75 points; its bottom held by 38.75. The low-range case, 7,680 to 7,750, lost its top by 22.75 while its bottom held by 19.75. The afternoon band of 7,648 to 7,790 contains the whole daily bar. It could not have broken. The night band of 7,690 to 7,745, the London band of 7,680 to 7,750 and the morning band of 7,662 to 7,768 kept their bottoms, since the low sat above all three. Their tops cannot be graded. The high cleared each of them, and the daily bar cannot place it in a session.

The weighted path held its outer frame and missed its lean. Tuesday’s outlook expected a hold between Pivot S1 at 7,664.33 and Pivot R2 at 7,789.67, with a rebound toward the band that stalls beneath Pivot R1 at 7,752.08 weighted slightly above an extension. The low finished 35.42 points above S1 and the high 16.92 beneath R2. The high also cleared R1 by 20.67 points, and the settle held 6.17 above it. The lean did not hold. The named alternative, a cash recovery of 7,700 carrying the contract above Pivot R1 toward one standard deviation resistance at 7,767.76, printed in the high. We grade the card as written. The band traded, the stop traded, two targets printed, and the order is unknown.

The Pivot Point at 7,743.58, the 7,736 to 7,744 band and the 7,722 stop

The basis narrowed. Tuesday’s 7,758.25 settle less the 7,722.60 cash close measures 35.65 points, against 37.73 on Monday, and every cash equivalent in this article uses the new figure. The dataset keeps its own 36.85 point offset, 1.20 wider. Its published futures pairs sit slightly apart: 8,136.85 for the 8,100 call-side ceiling, 8,036.85 for the 8,000 gamma concentration, 7,736.85 for the 7,700 modeled volatility threshold, 7,725.85 for the 7,689 modeled gamma-flip level and 7,636.85 for the 7,600 put-side support base.

Resistance starts 1.60 points up, at the 40-day crossing price for Wednesday of 7,759.85. Five references sit within 7.90 points of it. The 14-day relative strength projection at 7,760.20, the 50-day average at 7,760.50, the published target price at 7,763.89 and the raw stochastic projection at 7,767.75 follow. Tuesday’s 7,772.75 high (cash 7,737.10) and the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 7,773.00 sit 0.25 apart. The 18-day stall level at 7,777.25 and the 20-day average at 7,777.50 sit just above the 7,776 second target.

Then the pivot group. The 3-10 day crossover stall level at 7,781.39, the 18-day crossing price at 7,784.43, the 7,785.65 conversion of the dataset’s 7,750 resistance and Pivot R1 at 7,787.42 (cash 7,751.77) sit within 6.03 points. R1 sits 1.77 above the conversion and 6.58 beneath the 7,794 extended target. Above it come the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 7,802.38 and one standard deviation resistance at 7,811.93 (cash 7,776.28). Pivot R2 at 7,816.58 (cash 7,780.93) sits 4.65 above the deviation line.

The upper references thin out. Two standard deviations resistance at 7,834.17 (cash 7,798.52), the 7,835.65 conversion of the dataset’s 7,800 resistance and the 7,839.72 top of the one-range frame sit within 5.55 points. Three standard deviations resistance at 7,851.23 (cash 7,815.58) and Pivot R3 at 7,860.42 (cash 7,824.77) follow. The one-month high of 7,897.50 from 10/06 (cash 7,861.85) and the 52-week and 13-week high of 7,905.00 from 08/13 (cash 7,869.35) sit higher. The last sits 146.75 points or 1.89 percent above the settle. The 8,036.85 concentration pair (cash 8,000) and the 8,136.85 ceiling pair (cash 8,100) complete the list.

Support starts 14.63 points down, at the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 7,743.62. The Pivot Point at 7,743.58 (cash 7,707.93) sits 0.04 beneath it. Both sit inside the band. Monday’s 7,739.50 high (cash 7,703.85) sits inside it too, 3.50 above the bottom, and the 7,736.85 threshold pair (cash 7,700) sits 0.85 above the bottom. Just beneath the band sit the 9-day average at 7,735.75 and the 7,735.65 conversion of the dataset’s 7,700 level, 0.25 and 0.35 under it.

The stop group comes next. The 9-day crossing price at 7,728.91 and the 5-day average at 7,727.50 lead it. The 7,725.85 flip-level pair (cash 7,689) and the 7,725.65 conversion of the 7,690 dealer-positioning pivot sit 0.20 apart. They stand 3.85 and 3.65 above the 7,722 stop. Beneath the stop sit Tuesday’s 7,715.00 open (cash 7,679.35), Monday’s 7,714.50 settle and Pivot S1 at 7,714.42 (cash 7,678.77), all within 0.58 points. One standard deviation support at 7,704.57 (cash 7,668.92), the card’s invalidation line, follows.

The lows come next. Tuesday’s 7,699.75 low (cash 7,664.10) sits 4.82 beneath the deviation line, and the 100-day average at 7,694.75 sits 5.00 beneath the low. Two standard deviations support at 7,682.33 (cash 7,646.68) and the 7,676.78 bottom of the one-range frame follow. Then come Pivot S2 at 7,670.58 (cash 7,634.93) and three standard deviations support at 7,665.27 (cash 7,629.62). Monday’s 7,651.75 low (cash 7,616.10) sits 3.25 above Friday’s 7,648.50 (cash 7,612.85), still the one-month low. Pivot S3 at 7,641.42 (cash 7,605.77) and the 7,636.85 put-side pair (cash 7,600) sit beneath them. The 200-day average at 7,419.00 and the 13-week low of 7,386.00 from 07/29 sit far lower.

Four averages sit beneath the settle. The 5-day stands 30.75 points under it, the 9-day 22.50, the 100-day 63.50 and the 200-day 339.25. The 20-day sits 19.25 above it and the 50-day 2.25 above. Each was rounded once to the 0.25 tick from the 259-session settlement series. The 20-day rose from Monday’s 7,776.25 as the 09/29 settle of 7,732.00 left the window and 7,758.25 replaced it. The 50-day fell from 7,762.00 when the 08/17 settle of 7,835.25 dropped out. The longer stack still rises. The 30 older settlements in the 50-day window averaged 7,749.00, beneath the latest 20, which keeps the 20-day above the 50-day. Older windows sit lower. The 50 older settlements in the 100-day window averaged 7,629.00, and the 100 older settlements in the 200-day window 7,143.50. For Wednesday the averages would be crossed at 7,728.91 for the 9-day, 7,784.43 for the 18-day and 7,759.85 for the 40-day.

Momentum sits near the middle of its range. On the provider’s published readings, taken at about 6:23 PM ET on Tuesday after the 6:00 PM ET reopen, relative strength reads 50.28 on the 9-day, 49.83 on the 14-day and 50.16 on the 20-day. The provider may already blend the reopened session’s quote into them. The raw stochastic reads 67.02 percent on the 9-day and 46.02 percent on the 14-day. The smoothed 14-day %K at 26.07 percent sits above %D at 21.86 percent, both in the lower half. Negative direction still leads on both windows. On the 9-day it reads 22.46 against 15.92 with the ADX at 25.99; on the 14-day, 22.81 against 16.13 with a low ADX of 17.57. Historic volatility reads 11.32 percent on the 9-day and 10.55 percent on the 14-day.

The composite multi-indicator read published for Wednesday is a hold, unchanged from the prior session’s snapshot, with direction shown as steady and no strength label. Last week’s snapshot read 8 percent buy and last month’s 48 percent buy. The short-horizon group averages 20 percent sell and the medium-horizon group 25 percent sell. The long-horizon group reads 67 percent buy. The trend indicator reads hold.

Tuesday’s range fell short of the averages. The 14-day average true range stands at 81.47 points and the 14-day average daily range at 82.05. The 9-day figures are 83.01 and 90.11 and the 20-day figures 80.53 and 81.59, all read after the reopen with the oscillators’ caveat. Tuesday’s 73.00 point range was 0.89 times the 14-day average daily range, the narrowest since the 65.75 of 10/23. One average true range either side of the settle frames Wednesday between 7,676.78 and 7,839.72. The deviation bands are tighter. They run 7,704.57 to 7,811.93 at one deviation, 7,682.33 to 7,834.17 at two and 7,665.27 to 7,851.23 at three. Built from five settlements, they describe settlement dispersion only. The FOMC statement can carry the contract outside any of them. The dataset’s implied one-day move of 0.60 percent equals about 46.34 points on the 7,722.60 cash close, and its implied five-day move is 1.48 percent.

Zoom out. Daily ranges over the last ten sessions ran 138.75, 84.50, 133.50, 96.25, 87.00, 61.25, 122.00, 65.75, 87.75 and 73.00 points. Settlement changes over the same stretch read minus 85.50, plus 20.75, minus 86.75, plus 30.25, plus 20.75, plus 45.00, minus 95.75, minus 44.75, plus 54.75 and plus 43.75. Settlements ran 7,770.25, 7,791.00, 7,704.25, 7,734.50, 7,755.25, 7,800.25, 7,704.50, 7,659.75, 7,714.50 and 7,758.25. Over five sessions the contract is up 3.00 points from the 7,755.25 settle of 10/20. Tuesday’s bar left a 43.25 point body above the open. Its upper shadow above the settle measures 14.50 points and its lower shadow beneath the open 15.25. The settle sits 58.50 above the low and 14.50 beneath the high. The high sat 33.25 above Monday’s 7,739.50 and the low 48.00 above Monday’s 7,651.75. No four-hour series was captured. Swing structure rests on daily bars. The retracement grid for Wednesday places the 38.2 percent level from the four-week low at 7,743.62, the 50 percent level of the four-week range at 7,773.00 and the 38.2 percent level from the four-week high at 7,802.38.

Semiconductors rose 3.60 percent as leadership stayed in technology

Tuesday’s bar carries no clock. It opened at 7,715.00 at the Monday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 0.50 points above Monday’s settle, and settled 43.25 points above that open. No intraday series exists for the session. The news items below keep their own times, and none is tied to a price move. Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Tuesday. So the open, high and low on the provider’s overview page after that hour, 7,761.75, 7,762.75 and 7,753.50, belong to the Wednesday session. The settlement stays at 7,758.25.

Leadership was concentrated. The semiconductor index rose 3.60 percent and the Nasdaq-100 cash index 1.29 percent, against 0.60 percent for the S&P 500 cash index and 0.03 percent for the Dow industrials. The review reads that as leadership concentrated in technology and semiconductors. No breadth series was captured, so no advance-decline figure is given.

Company news ran through the day. From 12:00 PM ET to 12:05 PM ET the news feed carried a run of partnership announcements from a database-software company, and at 1:40 PM ET an AI world-model release from a search-advertising company. After the close a card-payments company reported fiscal fourth-quarter adjusted earnings of 3.48 dollars a share against an estimate of 3.44, per the news feed. Its net revenue was 12.10 billion dollars against 12.09 billion, also per the news feed. The provider’s commentary described generally positive earnings results as part of Tuesday’s equity advance. That reading is the provider’s commentary. None of these items is tied to a price move here.

Gulf headlines ran alongside. At 6:36 AM ET the news feed carried an item that Iran’s supreme leader called for meeting the conditions to end the war. At 2:52 PM ET it carried an item that Iran’s president had left Russia, and at 3:49 PM ET the President reiterating that oil is flowing out of the Strait of Hormuz. Israel held its election on Tuesday. From 4:00 PM ET the news feed carried exit polls showing no majority for either main bloc, results attributed to the news feed and unconfirmed. These are statements carried by the news feed rather than confirmed events. They coincided with the session, and no move is attributed to any one of them.

Crude fell and gold rose. December WTI settled at 99.90, down 1.83 percent, and Brent’s December contract fell 1.67 percent to 113.88. December gold rose 0.90 percent to 4,074.6. The review draws no link between the crude decline and the equity gain. None is drawn here.

Rates barely moved. The ten-year yield index closed at 4.99 percent against 4.98 percent, and the dollar index at 102.32 against 101.96, up 0.36. Three releases printed. The durable goods report, released at 8:30 AM ET as the calendar lists it, printed 1.8 percent against a 1.9 percent forecast, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Consumer confidence printed 91.7 against an 81 forecast, also per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The five-year note auction stopped at a 4.845 percent high yield with a 2.330 bid-to-cover, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. New home sales were released at 10:00 AM ET, as the calendar lists it.

The decision comes Wednesday. The FOMC statement is set for 2:00 PM ET and the press conference for 2:30 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists them. The provider’s commentary put the market-implied chance of a rate increase at 7 percent for this week and 91 percent for the December 8-9 meeting. Those figures are attributed to that commentary and were not verified independently.

Implied volatility eased. The S&P 500 volatility index closed at 17.52 against 18.39. The index positioning console puts one-month implied volatility at 14.11 percent against realised volatility of 9.90 percent. Options price more movement than the index has recently delivered.

Activity fell back. Tuesday’s December volume was 1,509,451 contracts on the 2026-10-27 row, against 1,677,784 on the revised 2026-10-26 row, a drop of 168,333 or 10.0 percent. Our Tuesday outlook carried the preliminary 1,619,722 for Monday. Monday’s open interest now reads 1,934,270 on the revised 2026-10-26 row; that outlook said it was not yet reported. Tuesday’s open interest was not yet reported.

The weekly positioning report dated October 20, shown on the provider’s overview, puts leveraged-fund long positions at 135,034 contracts and short positions at 506,279. That leaves a net short of 371,245 against 408,726 a week earlier. Asset-manager long positions stand at 1,101,642 and asset-manager short positions at 200,265. The report predates the declines of 10/22 and 10/23 and the two gains since.

The cash close sits above the three nearest model lines. The dealer-positioning dataset used here takes the prior session’s closes as its reference prices. Its 7,676 index reference matches Monday’s 7,676.77 cash close to the whole point, and its 29,273 Nasdaq-100 reference Monday’s 29,273.40. Its narrative states a close of 7,723, up 0.6 percent. That is consistent with the provider’s 7,722.60 close, which this article uses; 7,676.77 plus 0.6 percent gives 7,722.83, within the rounding of that percentage.

Now the distances, in cash. The close sits 22.60 points above the 7,700 modeled volatility threshold (ES pair 7,736.85) and 33.60 above the 7,689 modeled gamma-flip level (ES pair 7,725.85). It sits 122.60 above the 7,600 put-side support base (ES pair 7,636.85) and 377.40 beneath the 8,100 call-side ceiling (ES pair 8,136.85). The largest gamma concentration sits at 8,000 (ES pair 8,036.85), 277.40 points above the close. In the dataset’s model, gamma tilt reads 0.931 and gamma notional minus 286.688 million dollars. The modeled threshold and flip level are model outputs; neither is an option strike.

The dataset draws its own map. Its summary lists resistance at 7,700, 7,720, 7,750 and 7,800, support at 7,600 and 7,400 and a dealer-positioning pivot at 7,690. Its key strikes are 8,000, 7,000, 7,700 and 7,800, all in cash. The close sits 32.60 points above that pivot and 2.60 above the listed 7,720 resistance. At the measured basis the pivot converts to 7,725.65, the 7,700 level to 7,735.65, the 7,750 resistance to 7,785.65 and the 7,800 resistance to 7,835.65. Then the narrative. The dataset’s summary states a constructive stance once 7,700 is recovered and a cautious one beneath the 7,690 pivot. In the same summary a break of 7,600 points toward the 7,300s. It described roughly 2 billion dollars of positive delta flow in S&P 500 shares, led by longer-dated call buying in the largest technology names. It called index flow directionally neutral ahead of the decision and the results, with short-dated implied volatility up about one volatility point. Those characterisations are the dataset’s, and no directional read is drawn from them here. Statements in the dataset about the order of intraday moves are excluded, because no intraday series is available to place them.

The dataset’s implied one-day move is 0.60 percent, about 46.34 points on the 7,722.60 close, and its implied five-day move 1.48 percent. Its implied one-day high and low of 7,744.54 and 7,652.16 are quoted as published. The console adds detail. The S&P 500 positioning console, read at about 6:18 PM ET with a page date of 2026-10-27, shows model call gamma of minus 3.5 billion against put gamma of minus 3.76 billion. It puts the implied-volatility rank at 24.10 percent, the skew rank at 44.00 percent and the put-to-call open-interest ratio at 1.44. Its high and low volatility point fields are treated as low-confidence and were not used.

Two gamma measures appear here. The dataset’s gamma notional and the console’s gamma fields come from different models and timestamps. They are not reconciled here, and neither is summed with the other.

Damping is the question for Wednesday. In the review’s interpretation a cash close above the modeled volatility threshold, the modeled gamma-flip level and the dealer-positioning pivot describes an improved environment against Monday. Gamma notional remains negative, and the margin above the flip level is narrow. That reading carries no direction of its own. The primary setup buys the 7,736 to 7,744 band, which holds the Pivot Point and the 7,736.85 threshold pair. Its 7,722 stop sits beneath the 7,725.85 flip-level pair.

The trade map for Wednesday

The primary setup is a long from 7,736 to 7,744. The cash index closed above the modeled volatility threshold, the modeled gamma-flip level and the dealer-positioning pivot. Tuesday printed a higher high and a higher low, and the settle sits above the 5-day, 9-day, 100-day and 200-day averages. Now the band. It holds the Pivot Point at 7,743.58, 0.42 beneath its top, and the 7,743.62 retracement, 0.38 beneath it. Monday’s 7,739.50 high sits inside too, and the 7,736.85 threshold pair sits 0.85 above the bottom. The 9-day average at 7,735.75 and the 7,735.65 conversion sit 0.25 and 0.35 beneath the bottom. The whole band sits beneath the settle. Its top sits 14.25 points down, and its bottom 22.25. Then the stop. It sits at 7,722, 3.85 beneath the 7,725.85 flip-level pair and 7.58 above Pivot S1 at 7,714.42. Targets step up. The first, 7,758, sits at Tuesday’s settle, 0.25 beneath it. The second, 7,776, sits 1.25 beneath the 7,777.25 stall level and 3.25 above Tuesday’s high. The extended 7,794 sits 6.58 above Pivot R1 and 17.93 beneath one standard deviation resistance. The evidence against is plain. The composite still reads hold and negative direction leads on both directional systems. The settle also sits beneath the 20-day and 50-day averages. The review calls the setup an analyst judgment that dips toward the pivot are bought ahead of the decision. No measured edge stands behind it.

Primary setup for Wednesday
Direction
Long
Entry Zone
7,736 to 7,744 (cash 7,700.35 to 7,708.35), at the Pivot Point of 7,743.58 and the 7,743.62 retracement and around the dataset’s 7,736.85 pair of the modeled volatility threshold, all three inside the band
Stop Loss
7,722 (cash 7,686.35), beneath the dataset’s 7,725.85 pair of the modeled gamma-flip level and above Pivot S1 at 7,714.42
Target 1
7,758 (cash 7,722.35), at Tuesday’s 7,758.25 settle, 0.25 beneath it
Target 2
7,776 (cash 7,740.35), beneath the 18-day average stall level at 7,777.25
Target 3 (extended)
7,794 (cash 7,758.35), above Pivot R1 at 7,787.42 and beneath one standard deviation resistance at 7,811.93
Risk-to-Reward
Approximately 1:1 to T1, 1:2 to T2 and 1:3 to T3, measured from the 7,740 midpoint of the entry zone against the 7,722 stop, a risk of 18 points
Invalidation
A settle beneath one standard deviation support at 7,704.57 negates the thesis. Short of that, the edge is removed by acceptance beneath the entry band, defined as two consecutive 30-minute closes beneath 7,736; a touch alone does not remove it
Macro override
A statement or press conference read as raising the path of rate increases would pressure equities. In that scenario a move through the 7,722 stop invalidates the long before the targets, and Pivot S1 at 7,714.42 becomes the reference, 7.58 points beyond the stop and inside one 14-day average true range of 81.47 points
Status at Tuesday’s settle
7,758.25, 14.25 points above the band top; Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Tuesday

Now the arithmetic. From the 7,740 midpoint the risk to the stop is 18 points, 22.1 percent of the 14-day average true range of 81.47. The targets sit 18, 36 and 54 points above the midpoint. Exact multiples. The band sits wholly beneath the settle, its top 14.25 points down and its bottom 22.25. So the first target, 7,758, sits 0.25 beneath the settle. Only the second and third sit above it. A one-range frame from the settle, 7,676.78 to 7,839.72, ends 45.22 points beneath the stop and reaches 45.72 above the extended target. The invalidation line at 7,704.57 sits 53.68 points beneath the settle and 17.43 beneath the stop.

The session bands are the review’s analyst judgment. Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 near the settle. Through the night session to 3:00 AM ET Wednesday the review expects roughly 7,740 to 7,775, with a neutral bias while the contract holds above the Pivot Point at 7,743.58. Australian consumer prices are listed at 8:30 PM ET and the New Zealand rate decision at 9:00 PM ET, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. London, from 3:00 AM to 8:00 AM ET, runs roughly 7,735 to 7,785 with a neutral bias. German consumer sentiment is listed at 3:00 AM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Those labels need care. The review names Pivot R1 the first meaningful resistance and the Pivot Point the first meaningful support for London. The numbers put Pivot R1 2.42 above the London band top, with twelve references from 7,759.85 to 7,785.65 between the settle and it. They put the 7,743.62 retracement 0.04 above the Pivot Point.

The cash-session bands, also analyst judgment, are wider. The advance economic indicators report is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET, as the calendar lists it. The 9:30 AM ET cash open sets the session’s first directional test. The morning band, 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM ET, runs roughly 7,725 to 7,790. Pivot R1 at 7,787.42 sits inside it, 2.58 beneath its top. The 7,736 to 7,744 entry band sits inside it too, 11.00 above its bottom. The weekly petroleum status report follows at 10:30 AM ET, as the calendar lists it. The afternoon band, 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET, runs 7,704 to 7,812. Its edges sit near one standard deviation support at 7,704.57 and resistance at 7,811.93, each just inside. The FOMC statement at 2:00 PM ET and the press conference at 2:30 PM ET fall inside that window, as the calendar lists them. The scenario ranges, also analyst judgment, run 7,725 to 7,790 for the low-range case, 7,704 to 7,812 for the mid-range case, the most likely, and 7,677 to 7,840 for the high-range case.

The week fills in after that. Results from the search-advertising company are listed at 4:00 PM ET and from a software company at 4:05 PM ET on Wednesday, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Globex reopens at 6:00 PM ET on Wednesday after the 5:00 PM ET halt. Data comes Thursday morning. GDP and the personal income and outlays report are set for 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them. Results from an online retailer follow Thursday’s close, as the calendar lists them. The employment cost index is set for 8:30 AM ET on Friday, October 30, 2026, as the calendar lists it. In the review’s judgment the first-order event for the S&P 500 on Wednesday is the 2:00 PM ET FOMC statement and the 2:30 PM ET press conference, as the calendar lists them.

One path is weighted. In the review’s analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between one standard deviation support at 7,704.57 and one standard deviation resistance at 7,811.93. In the same judgment, a dip toward the Pivot Point at 7,743.58 that holds above the 7,725.85 flip-level pair is weighted slightly above a direct move through Pivot R1 at 7,787.42. It rests on judgment. The review weighs it that way because the cash index closed above the modeled threshold, the flip level and the dealer-positioning pivot. The session also printed a higher high and a higher low. The composite still reads hold, and negative direction still leads on both directional systems. One alternative is named. A settle beneath 7,704.57 after the statement the calendar lists for 2:00 PM ET would invalidate the reading. At the measured basis that line equals about 7,668.92 in cash, beneath the 7,690 pivot, and the review says it would open Pivot S2 at 7,670.58. The other risk runs upward. A move through Pivot R1 without a dip would carry the contract toward the 7,811.93 deviation band without the entry the setup needs.

Tuesday’s high ran 26.75 points through the old short band; Wednesday’s long band sits 14.25 points beneath the settle, with the Pivot Point inside it.

1. Executive Summary

The December S&P 500 contract settled at 7,758.25 on Tuesday, up 43.75 or 0.57 percent from Monday's settle of 7,714.50, after trading between 7,772.75 and 7,699.75, a 73.00 point daily range. The settle finished at 80.1 percent of the range, and the 73.00 point range was 0.89 times the published 14-day average daily range of 82.05 points. Tuesday's high sat 33.25 points above Monday's 7,739.50 high and Tuesday's low sat 48.00 points above Monday's 7,651.75 low, so the session printed a higher high and a higher low. The 7,758.25 settle was the highest since the 7,800.25 settle of 10/21, and the 73.00 point range was the narrowest since the 65.75 point range of 10/23.

The S&P 500 cash index closed at 7,722.60, up 45.83 or 0.60 percent, the Nasdaq-100 cash index rose 1.29 percent, the semiconductor index rose 3.60 percent and the Dow industrials rose 0.03 percent. December WTI crude fell 1.83 percent to 99.90, the dollar index closed at 102.32 against 101.96 and the ten-year yield index closed at 4.99 percent against 4.98 percent. The volatility index closed at 17.52 against 18.39.

The durable goods report printed 1.8 percent against a 1.9 percent forecast and consumer confidence printed 91.7 against an 81 forecast, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The news feed carried an item at 6:36 AM ET that Iran's supreme leader called for meeting the conditions to end the war, and a run of partnership announcements from a database-software company between 12:00 PM ET and 12:05 PM ET. These items coincided with the session; no intraday series is available, so no move is attributed to any one of them.

The cash close sits 22.60 points above the modeled volatility threshold at SPX 7,700, 33.60 points above the modeled gamma-flip level at SPX 7,689 and 32.60 points above the dealer-positioning pivot at SPX 7,690, with negative gamma notional. The composite multi-indicator read is "HOLD" with direction "Steady", and the settle sits beneath the 20-day and 50-day averages and above the 5-day, 9-day, 100-day and 200-day. The primary setup is a long from the 7,736 to 7,744 band at the Pivot Point of 7,743.58, stopped at 7,722, with objectives at 7,758, 7,776 and an extended 7,794.

2. Price Action & Technical Structure

2.1 Intraday and Session Review

The Tuesday session opened at 7,715.00 at the Monday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 0.50 points above Monday's settle, marked a daily high of 7,772.75 and a daily low of 7,699.75, and settled at 7,758.25. This review makes no claim about the order in which the high and the low printed; the daily bar fixes the open, the extremes and the settle, and that is the evidence used here.

The settle sits 58.50 points above the low and 14.50 points beneath the high. The body of the daily bar measures 43.25 points from the 7,715.00 open to the 7,758.25 settle, with a lower shadow of 15.25 points beneath the open and an upper shadow of 14.50 points above the settle.

Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET, so the open, high and low shown on the provider's overview page, 7,761.75, 7,762.75 and 7,753.50, belong to the new Wednesday session and not to Tuesday's completed session. The provider's previous close of 7,758.25 is Tuesday's settle.

Tuesday's completed-session extremes are the completed-session inputs behind the published pivot ladder rather than an independently read bar. Pivot R3 at 7,860.42 minus Pivot S3 at 7,641.42, divided by three, returns 73.00, and Pivot R2 at 7,816.58 minus Pivot S2 at 7,670.58, divided by two, returns the same 73.00. Three times the Pivot Point of 7,743.58 less the 7,758.25 settle gives a high plus low sum of 15,472.49, against 15,472.50 for the pair of 7,772.75 and 7,699.75, a difference within the published rounding, and that pair reproduces all seven published rungs.

The provider's settlement row and the chart's completed daily bar carry the same 7,715.00 open, 7,772.75 high, 7,699.75 low and 7,758.25 settle.

2.2 Daily Structure

Tuesday's 7,772.75 high sits 33.25 points above Monday's 7,739.50, and the 7,699.75 low sits 48.00 points above Monday's 7,651.75, so the session printed a higher high and a higher low. Settlements over the last seven sessions read 7,734.50, 7,755.25, 7,800.25, 7,704.50, 7,659.75, 7,714.50 and 7,758.25, so Tuesday made two consecutive higher settles after the declines of 10/22 and 10/23.

The provider's published 52-week and 13-week high is 7,905.00, the one-month high is 7,897.50 from 10/06, the one-month low is Friday's 7,648.50 and the 13-week low is 7,386.00 from 07/29. Over five sessions the contract is up 3.00 points from the 7,755.25 settle of 10/20.

The basis, the December settle less the cash close, measured 35.65 points on Tuesday, 7,758.25 less 7,722.60, both completed-session records from the provider's daily series, against 37.73 points on Monday.

2.3 4-Hour and Swing Structure

Daily ranges for the last seven sessions ran 96.25, 87.00, 61.25, 122.00, 65.75, 87.75 and 73.00. The settlement changes over the same seven sessions read plus 30.25, plus 20.75, plus 45.00, minus 95.75, minus 44.75, plus 54.75 and plus 43.75.

The retracement grid published for Wednesday places the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 7,743.62, 14.63 points beneath the settle, the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 7,773.00 and the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 7,802.38. No four-hour series was captured for this session, so swing structure here rests on daily bars only.

2.4 Moving Averages

The averages cited in this subsection were computed from the provider's daily settlement series for the December contract, which holds 259 completed sessions through Tuesday; the partial Wednesday row of the reopened Globex session was dropped before counting. The 5-day average stands at 7,727.50, the 9-day at 7,735.75, the 20-day at 7,777.50, the 50-day at 7,760.50, the 100-day at 7,694.75 and the 200-day at 7,419.00.

The 7,758.25 settle sits 30.75 points above the 5-day average, 22.50 above the 9-day, 63.50 above the 100-day and 339.25 above the 200-day, and beneath the 20-day by 19.25 points and the 50-day by 2.25 points. The 20-day average rose from Monday's 7,776.25, because the 09/29 settle of 7,732.00 left the window and was replaced by 7,758.25, and the 50-day fell from 7,762.00, because the 08/17 settle of 7,835.25 left that window.

The 20-day average sits above the 50-day because the 30 older settlements in the 50-day window averaged lower, at 7,749.00. The 50-day sits above the 100-day because the 50 older settlements in the 100-day window averaged lower, at 7,629.00, and the 100-day sits above the 200-day because the 100 older settlements in the 200-day window averaged lower, at 7,143.50. The projection grid gives the prices at which each average would be crossed on Wednesday: 7,728.91 for the 9-day, 7,784.43 for the 18-day and 7,759.85 for the 40-day.

2.5 Oscillator and Trend Readings

The oscillator figures below are as published on the provider's technical page, read at about 6:23 PM ET on Tuesday after the 6:00 PM ET reopen, so the provider may already be blending the reopened session's quote into them; they are the provider's published readings, and none was computed for this review. As published, the 9-day relative strength reads 50.28, the 14-day relative strength 49.83 and the 20-day relative strength 50.16.

The 9-day raw stochastic reads 67.02 percent and the 14-day raw stochastic 46.02 percent, while the 14-day stochastic %K reads 26.07 percent and the 14-day stochastic %D 21.86 percent, so %K sits above %D in the lower half of the range.

The 9-day directional index ADX reads 25.99 with the 9-day +DI at 15.92 and the 9-day -DI at 22.46; the 14-day directional index ADX reads 17.57 with the 14-day +DI at 16.13 and the 14-day -DI at 22.81, so negative direction leads on both with a low 14-day ADX. The 9-day historic volatility reads 11.32 percent and the 14-day historic volatility 10.55 percent.

The composite multi-indicator read published for the Wednesday session is "HOLD", unchanged from the prior session's snapshot of "HOLD", with direction described as "Steady" and no strength label shown. The snapshot history reads "8% BUY" a week ago and "48% BUY" a month ago. The short-horizon group averages "20% SELL", the medium-horizon group "25% SELL" and the long-horizon group "67% BUY", and the composite trend indicator reads hold.

2.6 Volatility and Expected Range

The published 14-day average true range stands at 81.47 points and the 14-day average daily range at 82.05 points; the 9-day average true range is 83.01 with a 9-day average daily range of 90.11, and the 20-day average true range is 80.53 with a 20-day average daily range of 81.59. These were read after the reopen and carry the same caveat as the oscillators. Tuesday's 73.00 point range was 0.89 times the 14-day average daily range.

Adding and subtracting the 14-day average true range of 81.47 points from the 7,758.25 settle frames Wednesday between 7,676.78 and 7,839.72. The published standard-deviation bands are built from five settlements: one deviation spans 7,704.57 to 7,811.93, two spans 7,682.33 to 7,834.17 and three spans 7,665.27 to 7,851.23. The dealer-positioning dataset's implied one-day move is 0.60 percent and its implied five-day move 1.48 percent. These bands describe settlement dispersion, not intraday reach, and the FOMC statement can carry the contract outside any of them.

3. Key Levels

3.1 Resistance

Above the 7,758.25 settle, the first overhead references are the 40-day average crossing price at 7,759.85, the 14-day relative strength projection at 50 percent, 7,760.20, the published target price at 7,763.89 and the 7,767.75 raw stochastic projection at 50 percent, followed by Tuesday's 7,772.75 high and the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 7,773.00. The 18-day average stall level at 7,777.25, the 3-10 day crossover stall level at 7,781.39, the 18-day average crossing price at 7,784.43, the 7,785.65 conversion of the SPX 7,750 resistance and Pivot R1 at 7,787.42 form the next band. One standard deviation resistance at 7,811.93, Pivot R2 at 7,816.58, 4.65 above it, and the 7,835.65 conversion of the SPX 7,800 resistance come next, with Pivot R3 at 7,860.42 the extended reference.

3.2 Support

Beneath the settle sits the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 7,743.62 and the Pivot Point at 7,743.58, then the source's December pair of the modeled volatility threshold at 7,736.85 and the 7,735.65 conversion of SPX 7,700 at the measured basis. The 9-day average crossing price at 7,728.91, the source's December pair of the modeled gamma-flip level at 7,725.85 and the 7,725.65 conversion of the SPX 7,690 dealer-positioning pivot form the next band, with Pivot S1 at 7,714.42 and one standard deviation support at 7,704.57 beneath. Tuesday's 7,699.75 low, Pivot S2 at 7,670.58, Friday's 7,648.50 low, the one-month low, and the source's December pair of the put side support base at 7,636.85 are the extended references.

4. Macro Drivers

4.1 Dollar, Rates, and Fed Policy

The dollar index closed at 102.32 in the provider's daily record, up 0.36 from Monday's 101.96, and the ten-year yield index closed at 4.99 percent against 4.98 percent. The FOMC statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the press conference for 2:30 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it. The provider's commentary put the market-implied chance of a rate increase at 7 percent for this week and 91 percent for the December 8-9 meeting, figures attributed to that commentary and not verified independently. The five-year note auction stopped at a 4.845 percent high yield with a 2.330 bid-to-cover, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed.

4.2 Large-Cap Leadership and Earnings

A card-payments company's fiscal fourth-quarter results, released after Tuesday's close, showed adjusted earnings of 3.48 dollars a share against an estimate of 3.44 and net revenue of 12.10 billion dollars against 12.09 billion, per the news feed. Results from a search-advertising company and a software company are listed for Wednesday, October 28, 2026 after the close, at 4:00 PM ET and 4:05 PM ET respectively, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, and results from an online retailer are scheduled after the close on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them. The provider's commentary described generally positive earnings results as part of Tuesday's equity advance.

4.3 Geopolitical Backdrop

The news feed carried at 6:36 AM ET an item that Iran's supreme leader called for meeting the conditions to end the war, at 2:52 PM ET an item that Iran's president had left Russia, and at 3:49 PM ET the President reiterating that oil is flowing out of the Strait of Hormuz. Israel held its election on Tuesday, and the news feed carried exit polls from 4:00 PM ET onward showing no majority for either main bloc, results attributed to the news feed and unconfirmed.

4.4 Sector Breadth and Rotation

The Nasdaq-100 cash index's 1.29 percent gain and the semiconductor index's 3.60 percent gain outpaced the S&P 500 cash index's 0.60 percent and the Dow industrials' 0.03 percent, so leadership was concentrated in technology and semiconductors. The news feed carried partnership announcements from a database-software company between 12:00 PM ET and 12:05 PM ET and an AI world-model release from the search-advertising company at 1:40 PM ET. No breadth series was captured for this session, so no advance-decline figure is asserted.

4.5 Cross-Asset and Volatility

The volatility index closed at 17.52 against 18.39 on Monday. December WTI crude fell 1.83 percent to 99.90 and Brent's December contract 1.67 percent to 113.88, while gold's December contract rose 0.90 percent to 4,074.6. The S&P 500 positioning console shows one-month implied volatility of 14.11 percent against realised volatility of 9.90 percent, so options price more movement than the index has recently delivered.

4.6 Institutional Positioning

The weekly positioning report dated October 20, shown on the provider's overview, puts leveraged-fund long positions at 135,034 contracts and short positions at 506,279, a net short of 371,245 against 408,726 a week earlier, and asset-manager long positions at 1,101,642 against short positions of 200,265. The report predates the declines of 10/22 and 10/23 and the two gains since.

Open interest on the December contract is shown at 1,934,270 for Monday in the provider's record, and Tuesday's open interest had not been reported at the time of capture; Tuesday's December volume was 1,509,451 contracts.

5. SPX Options Flow Context

The dealer-positioning dataset read for this section uses the prior session's closes as its reference prices, not Tuesday's: SPX 7,676 matches Monday's 7,676.77 cash close to the whole point and NDX 29,273 matches Monday's 29,273.40. Its narrative states a close of 7,723, up 0.6 percent, consistent with the provider's 7,722.60 close, and 7,676.77 plus the stated 0.6 percent gives 7,722.83, within the rounding of that percentage; every level below is read against the provider's close.

On the index the primary call side ceiling sits at SPX 8,100, the largest gamma concentration at SPX 8,000, the modeled volatility threshold at SPX 7,700, the modeled gamma-flip level at SPX 7,689 and the primary put side support base at SPX 7,600. The close sits 377.40 points beneath the ceiling, 277.40 points beneath the largest concentration, 22.60 points above the threshold, 33.60 points above the flip level and 122.60 points above the put side base. Gamma tilt reads 0.931 and gamma notional minus 286.688 million dollars. The dataset's summary lists resistance at 7,700, 7,720, 7,750 and 7,800, support at 7,600 and 7,400 and its dealer-positioning pivot at 7,690, 32.60 points beneath the close, and its key strikes are SPX 8,000, 7,000, 7,700 and 7,800.

The dataset publishes its own December futures pair for each level, carrying the source's 36.85 point offset rather than the measured 35.65 point basis: the ceiling at 8,136.85, the largest concentration at 8,036.85, the modeled volatility threshold at 7,736.85, the modeled gamma-flip level at 7,725.85 and the put side support base at 7,636.85. These are quoted as the source's pairs. The modeled threshold and flip level are model outputs, not option strikes. At the measured basis the SPX 7,690 pivot converts to 7,725.65, SPX 7,700 to 7,735.65, the SPX 7,750 resistance to 7,785.65 and the SPX 7,800 resistance to 7,835.65.

The dataset's summary states a constructive stance once SPX 7,700 is recovered, and a cautious one beneath the 7,690 pivot, with a break of SPX 7,600 pointing toward the 7,300s. It described roughly 2 billion dollars of positive delta flow in S&P 500 equities, led by longer-dated call buying concentrated in the largest technology names, a directionally neutral index flow ahead of the decision and the results, and short-dated implied volatility up about one volatility point. Statements in the dataset about the order of intraday moves are excluded, because no intraday series is available to place them.

The dataset's published implied one-day high and low are SPX 7,744.54 and 7,652.16, quoted as published.

The S&P 500 positioning console, read at about 6:18 PM ET with a page date of 2026-10-27, shows call gamma of minus 3.5 billion against put gamma of minus 3.76 billion, one-month implied volatility of 14.11 percent against realised volatility of 9.90 percent, an implied-volatility rank of 24.10 percent, a skew rank of 44.00 percent and a put-to-call open-interest ratio of 1.44. The console's high and low volatility point fields are treated as low-confidence and excluded.

In this review's interpretation a cash close above both the modeled volatility threshold and the modeled gamma-flip level, and above the dealer-positioning pivot, describes an improved environment against Monday, although gamma notional remains negative and the margin above the flip level is narrow. The primary setup buys the 7,736 to 7,744 band, which holds the Pivot Point and the source's 7,736.85 pair of the threshold, with the 7,722 stop beneath the 7,725.85 source pair of the flip level.

6.2 London Session (3:00 AM to 8:00 AM ET Wednesday)

German consumer sentiment is listed at 3:00 AM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Bias neutral, expected band roughly 7,735 to 7,785, with Pivot R1 at 7,787.42 the nearest pivot resistance, 2.42 above the band top and above twelve references from 7,759.85 to 7,785.65, and the Pivot Point at 7,743.58 the nearest pivot support, 0.04 beneath the 7,743.62 retracement.

6.3 Morning Session (9:30 AM to 12:00 PM ET Wednesday, RTH Open)

The advance economic indicators report is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the cash open at 9:30 AM ET sets the session's first directional test. Expected band roughly 7,725 to 7,790, with Pivot R1 at 7,787.42 inside it, 2.58 beneath its top, and the 7,736 to 7,744 entry band also inside it, 11.00 above its bottom.

The FOMC statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the press conference for 2:30 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it. Expected band roughly 7,704 to 7,812, with the outer edges near one standard deviation support at 7,704.57 and one standard deviation resistance at 7,811.93, each just inside the band.

6.5 Night Session Forward (6:00 PM ET Wednesday)

Globex reopens at 6:00 PM ET on Wednesday after the 5:00 PM ET halt. Results from the search-advertising company are listed at 4:00 PM ET and from the software company at 4:05 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, and the GDP and personal income and outlays reports follow at 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists it.

6.6 Expected Range (Wednesday Full Session)

Low-range scenario: 7,725 to 7,790

Mid-range scenario (most likely): 7,704 to 7,812

High-range scenario: 7,677 to 7,840

6.7 Most Likely Path

In this review's analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between one standard deviation support at 7,704.57 and one standard deviation resistance at 7,811.93, with a dip toward the Pivot Point at 7,743.58 that holds above the source's 7,725.85 pair of the flip level weighted slightly above a direct move through Pivot R1 at 7,787.42. The cash index closed above the modeled threshold, the flip level and the dealer-positioning pivot, and the session printed a higher high and a higher low, while the composite holds at "HOLD" and negative direction still leads on both directional systems.

The alternative that would invalidate this reading is a settle beneath one standard deviation support at 7,704.57 after the FOMC statement at 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, which would return the cash index beneath the dealer-positioning pivot and open Pivot S2 at 7,670.58. On the other side, a move through Pivot R1 at 7,787.42 without a dip would carry the contract toward the 7,811.93 deviation band without the entry the setup needs.

7. Wednesday Economic Calendar

Tuesday's releases are complete. New home sales were released at 10:00 AM ET on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as the calendar lists it. Results from the card-payments company were released after the close on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as the calendar lists them.

The employment cost index is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Friday, October 30, 2026, as the calendar lists it. In this review's judgment the first-order event for the S&P 500 on Wednesday is the 2:00 PM ET FOMC statement and the 2:30 PM ET press conference, as the calendar lists them.

8. Primary Trade Setup

Direction: Long

Rationale: The cash index closed above the modeled volatility threshold, the modeled gamma-flip level and the dealer-positioning pivot, the session printed a higher high and a higher low, and the settle sits above the 5-day, 9-day, 100-day and 200-day averages. A dip into the 7,736 to 7,744 band, at the Pivot Point of 7,743.58 and the 7,743.62 retracement and around the source's 7,736.85 pair of the threshold, offers a long with a defined risk point beneath the source's 7,725.85 pair of the flip level. The composite holds at "HOLD" and negative direction still leads on both directional systems, so the setup is an analyst judgment that dips toward the pivot are bought ahead of the decision, not a measured edge.

Entry Zone: 7,736 to 7,744

Stop Loss: 7,722 (beneath the source's 7,725.85 pair of the modeled gamma-flip level and above Pivot S1 at 7,714.42)

Target 1 (T1): 7,758 (at Tuesday's 7,758.25 settle, 0.25 beneath it)

Target 2 (T2): 7,776 (beneath the 18-day average stall level at 7,777.25)

Target 3 (T3, extended): 7,794 (above Pivot R1 at 7,787.42 and beneath one standard deviation resistance at 7,811.93)

Risk-to-Reward: Approximately 1:1 to T1, 1:2 to T2, 1:3 to T3

Invalidation: A settle beneath one standard deviation support at 7,704.57 negates the thesis. Short of that, the edge is removed by acceptance beneath the entry band rather than by a touch, defined as two consecutive 30-minute closes beneath 7,736.

Macro override: A statement or press conference read as raising the path of rate increases would pressure equities. In that scenario a move through the 7,722 stop invalidates the long before the targets, and Pivot S1 at 7,714.42 becomes the reference, 7.58 points beyond the stop and inside one 14-day average true range of 81.47 points.

Sources and methodology

This outlook is built from our session review of the December E-mini S&P 500 contract, the December ’26 contract, prepared after Tuesday’s close on October 27, 2026 for the Wednesday, October 28, 2026 session. Tuesday’s completed extremes are the inputs behind the published pivot ladder: Pivot R3 at 7,860.42 less Pivot S3 at 7,641.42, divided by three, and Pivot R2 at 7,816.58 less Pivot S2 at 7,670.58, divided by two, both return 73.00, and three times the 7,743.58 Pivot Point less the settle gives a high-plus-low sum of 15,472.49, which the pair of 7,772.75 and 7,699.75 reproduces to the published rounding at 15,472.50. The provider’s settlement row and the chart’s completed Tuesday daily bar carry the same 7,715.00 open, 7,772.75 high, 7,699.75 low and 7,758.25 settle. Those figures and the review’s own statements are the only evidence used to grade Tuesday’s card. No intraday series is available for Tuesday, so no order of events within the session is stated. Monday’s volume now reads 1,677,784 contracts on the revised 2026-10-26 row, which replaces the preliminary 1,619,722 carried in Tuesday’s outlook, and that row’s open interest now reads 1,934,270; that post was not changed. Tuesday’s open interest was not yet reported. Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET, so the overview page’s open, high and low after that hour belong to the Wednesday session and are not used as Tuesday’s range.

The moving averages were computed from the provider’s 259-session daily settlement series through Tuesday and rounded once to the 0.25 tick; the partial row of the reopened Wednesday session was dropped first. The oscillators and range averages are cited as published, read at about 6:23 PM ET on Tuesday after the reopen, so the provider may already blend the reopened session’s quote into them. The dealer-positioning dataset uses Monday’s closes as its reference prices and a fixed 36.85 point translation for its futures column, so cash equivalents here use the 35.65 point basis measured on Tuesday, settlement against cash close. The dataset’s implied one-day high and low pair is quoted as published, and its statements about the order of intraday moves are excluded because no intraday series is available to place them. The dataset’s gamma notional and the console’s call and put gamma are separate model measures from different timestamps; they are shown side by side, each with its source, and never combined. The console’s high and low volatility point fields are not used. The weekly positioning report is dated October 20. Scenario ranges are analyst judgment. Items marked unconfirmed come from the news-feed calendar, and every catalyst whose release time had passed at the time of writing is recorded as completed.

Tuesday’s outlook for this contract is here, and the Nasdaq-100 contract’s Tuesday outlook set the levels for the index whose cash close rose 1.29 percent on Tuesday. Outlooks for ES, NQ, GC and CL are collected on the market outlook page, and our forward trading record is on the performance statement.
