At 4,079.4, Tuesday's high cleared the 4,056 to 4,064 short band we set for the session by 15.4 points, then stopped 2.6 short of the 4,082 stop. December gold rose 36.2 points, or 0.90 percent, from Monday's 4,038.4 and settled at 4,074.6, above that band. The low was 4,001.6. The daily bar cannot show which extreme came first.
The dollar firmed anyway. The dollar index rose to 102.32 from 101.96 and the ten-year yield index edged to 4.99 percent from 4.98 percent, so the gain came against a firmer dollar. Tuesday printed a higher high and a higher low and settled at 93.8 percent of its range. Wednesday's primary setup is another short, from 4,100 to 4,108, a band around Pivot R1 at 4,102.1. The settle sits 25.4 points beneath it.
December gold settled at 4,074.6, 22.7 points above the 4,051.9 Pivot Point and 27.5 beneath Pivot R1 at 4,102.1. Only the 5-day average, at 4,066.3, sits beneath it; every longer average, from the 9-day at 4,109.5 to the 200-day at 4,603.5, sits above. The primary setup for Wednesday is a short from 4,100 to 4,108, with Pivot R1 inside the band, stop 4,126 beneath one standard deviation resistance at 4,127.7, and targets 4,082, 4,060 and an extended 4,038. The band sits above the market. Target 1 sits 7.4 points above the settle and Target 2 14.6 beneath it. The composite reads "80% SELL", from "88% SELL" a session earlier. The FOMC statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET and the press conference for 2:30 PM ET on Wednesday, as the calendar lists them.
Tuesday's 4,079.4 high cleared the 4,056 to 4,064 short band and stopped 2.6 short of the stop
In Tuesday’s outlook we set a short from 4,056 to 4,064, stop 4,082, with targets at 4,038, 4,016 and an extended 3,994. Its status line put the contract at 4,038.4 at the Monday settle. That left 17.6 points to the band. Tuesday's bar, from the review and the dated 2026-10-27 row of the provider's daily record, opened at 4,032.8 at the Monday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 5.6 beneath Monday's settle and 23.2 beneath the band. It marked a high of 4,079.4 and a low of 4,001.6 and settled at 4,074.6. The band traded.
It traded through. The 4,079.4 high sat 15.4 above the band top and 2.6 beneath the 4,082 stop, so the stop never traded. The settle finished 10.6 above the band top and 7.4 beneath the stop. It sat 2.9 points beneath the invalidation line, a settle above Pivot R2 at 4,077.5. That test was not met. The card's acceptance test, two consecutive 30-minute closes above 4,064, cannot be scored, because no 30-minute bars were kept. No fill and no result is asserted.
Two targets sit inside the bar. The 4,032.8 open sat 5.2 beneath the 4,038 first target, and the low went 36.4 beneath it. The low also went 14.4 beneath the 4,016 second target. The extended 3,994 never printed; the low stopped 7.6 above it. Those prints carry no result for the card. The settle finished 36.6 above the first target.
Order is the missing piece. No intraday series was kept for Tuesday. The daily bar fixes the open, the two extremes and the settle, and nothing more. It cannot show whether the high or the low came first, or whether the target prices traded before or after the band, so we make no claim about the path between them.
The path call missed at the top. Our Tuesday outlook weighted a hold between Pivot S2 at 3,971.3 and Pivot R2 at 4,077.5, with a rebound toward the band that then fails weighted slightly above a recovery. The low stayed 30.3 above Pivot S2. The high went 1.9 above Pivot R2, and the settle finished 2.9 beneath it. The outlook's alternative named a reversal lower in the dollar and yields, or a renewed haven bid, carrying the contract above Pivot R2 toward one standard deviation resistance at 4,101.9. The high stopped 22.5 short of 4,101.9. The dollar index firmed.
The range work was mixed. The whole bar sat inside the most likely case of 3,975 to 4,100, by 26.6 at the bottom and 20.6 at the top, and inside the high-range case of 3,950 to 4,128, by 51.6 and 48.6. It broke out of the low-range case of 4,005 to 4,060 at both ends, 3.4 beneath its bottom and 19.4 above its top. One deviation support at 3,974.9 held by 26.7 and one deviation resistance at 4,101.9 by 22.5. The average-true-range envelope of 3,961.0 to 4,115.8 held by 40.6 and 36.4. The four session bands cannot be scored. Each depends on when a price printed, and the daily bar does not say.
The high went 21.4 points above Pivot R1 at 4,058.0, and the low went 3.3 beneath Pivot S1 at 4,004.9. The 4,024.4 Pivot Point sat inside the range. The low stopped 12.5 above Friday's 3,989.1 low, which our Tuesday outlook listed as the 52-week low and which still stands. The macro override named a sharp reversal lower in the dollar and yields, or a renewed haven bid on Gulf escalation. The dollar index firmed instead, and the ten-year yield index edged up. The stop never traded. We grade the card as written.
One row anchors the score. The dated 2026-10-27 row of the provider's daily record reads 4,032.8, 4,079.4, 4,001.6 and 4,074.6 on 132,510 contracts. The review states the same prices and volume. Tuesday's open interest was not yet reported; the row repeats the figure Monday's row carried a night earlier, a preliminary carry. Monday's 2026-10-26 row was revised. It now carries 126,007 contracts against the preliminary 119,019 our Tuesday outlook carried, and open interest of 289,678, which that outlook listed as not yet reported. The review cites the same 289,678 for Monday.
The 4,100 to 4,108 band, Pivot R1 at 4,102.1 and the 4,051.9 Pivot Point
Resistance starts close. Tuesday's 4,079.4 high sits 4.8 above the settle and is the review's first overhead reference. Then a gap. The 9-day crossing price at 4,101.9 and Pivot R1 at 4,102.1 sit 27.3 and 27.5 above the settle.
Both sit in the band. Pivot R1 sits 2.1 above the 4,100 bottom, 1.9 beneath the 4,104 midpoint and 5.9 beneath the 4,108 top, and the crossing price sits 1.9 above the bottom. The 9-day average at 4,109.5 sits 1.5 above the top. The 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 4,113.9, the 50 percent raw stochastic projection at 4,115.7 and the MACD stall level at 4,122.5 follow, all between the band and the 4,126 stop. The stall level sits 3.5 beneath the stop. The stop sits 1.7 beneath one standard deviation resistance at 4,127.7 and 3.7 beneath Pivot R2 at 4,129.7.
Beyond the stop the list thickens. The 18-day crossing price at 4,136.4 sits 10.4 beyond it. Next come the 10/20 settle of 4,142.6, the 20-day average at 4,143.5, two standard deviations resistance at 4,149.8, the 10/21 settle of 4,150.0, the 4,152.0 average-true-range mark and the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 4,152.5. Higher up sit the 10/19 settle of 4,160.1 and three standard deviations resistance at 4,166.7. Then come the 09/29 settle of 4,179.7, Pivot R3 at 4,179.9 and the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 4,191.0. The rest is distant. It takes in the 40-day crossing at 4,255.4, the 100-day at 4,276.4, the 4,315.8 one-month high from 09/28 and the 50-day at 4,325.9, 251.3 above the settle. Then the 200-day at 4,603.5, the 4,755.0 13-week high from 08/25 and the 5,781.8 52-week high from 01/29.
Support starts at the 5-day. The 5-day average at 4,066.3 sits 8.3 beneath the settle. The 30 percent raw stochastic projection at 4,065.1 and the published target price at 4,062.8 follow, then the 10/22 settle of 4,060.4. The Pivot Point at 4,051.9 sits 22.7 beneath the settle, with those four references above it. Monday's 4,044.0 high, the 20 percent projection at 4,039.7 and Monday's 4,038.4 settle come next, then Tuesday's 4,032.8 open. A group of four follows. The 3-10 day crossover stall level at 4,029.0, Pivot S1 at 4,024.3, one standard deviation support at 4,021.5 and the 14-day %K stall level at 4,015.8 sit within 13.2 points. Friday's 4,007.9 settle and Tuesday's 4,001.6 low sit beneath them. Two standard deviations support at 3,999.4, the 3,997.2 average-true-range mark, Monday's 3,990.9 low and Friday's 3,989.1 low follow. Friday's low is also the one-month, 13-week and 52-week low. Three standard deviations support at 3,982.5, Pivot S2 at 3,974.1, 100.5 down, and Pivot S3 at 3,946.5 are the extended references.
One average sits beneath the settle. The 5-day at 4,066.3 is 8.3 points below it. The gaps above run 34.9 to the 9-day at 4,109.5, 68.9 to the 20-day at 4,143.5, 251.3 to the 50-day at 4,325.9, 201.8 to the 100-day at 4,276.4 and 528.9 to the 200-day at 4,603.5. The 5-day fell 13.6 from 4,079.9. The 10/20 settle of 4,142.6 left its window and Tuesday's 4,074.6 replaced it. The 20-day fell 5.3 from 4,148.8 as the 09/29 settle of 4,179.7 dropped out, and the 50-day eased 8.0 from 4,333.9. Older settlements explain the order. The 30 older ones in the 50-day window averaged 4,447.5, the 50 older ones in the 100-day window 4,227.0 and the 100 older ones in the 200-day window 4,930.6. Wednesday's crossing prices are 4,101.9 for the 9-day, 4,136.4 for the 18-day and 4,255.4 for the 40-day. December trades beneath February, which settled at 4,108.8 in the provider's daily record, 34.2 above December against 33.8 on Monday.
Momentum sits in the lower half of its scales. Relative strength reads 39.64 on the 9-day, 39.17 on the 14-day and 40.24 on the 20-day. The raw stochastics read 36.96 percent on the 9-day and 33.77 percent on the 14-day. The 14-day %K at 20.22 percent sits above %D at 17.00 percent. Sellers still lead on direction. On the 9-day, negative direction at 28.56 leads positive at 12.21 with the ADX at 36.42; on the 14-day, 26.52 leads 12.55 with the ADX at 26.98. Historic volatility reads 17.17 percent on the 9-day and 16.89 percent on the 14-day. These are the provider's published readings, taken at about 6:22 PM ET on Tuesday after the 6:00 PM ET reopen, so the provider may already blend the reopened session's quote into them.
The composite read published for Wednesday reads "80% SELL", with "Current Strength" shown as "Average", "Current Direction" as "Weakening" and the composite indicator at "SELL". The short-term group reads "Average: 80% SELL", the medium-term "Average: 100% SELL" and the long-term "Average: 33% SELL". History: "88% SELL" yesterday, "56% SELL" last week and "64% SELL" last month.
Tuesday's range was the widest since 10/22. Its 77.8 points were 1.18 times the 14-day average daily range of 66.1, against 127.5 on 10/22. The high sat 35.4 above Monday's 4,044.0 and the low 10.7 above Monday's 3,990.9: a higher high and a higher low. The settle, at 93.8 percent of the range, sat 73.0 above the low and 4.8 beneath the high. That left a body of 41.8 points above the open, an upper shadow of 4.8 and a lower shadow of 31.2 beneath the open. The 36.2 point gain was the largest since the 62.2 point gain of 10/15. The 4,074.6 settle was the highest since the 4,150.0 settle of 10/21, and the second consecutive higher settle after the declines of 10/22 and 10/23. Session highs over six sessions ran 4,174.9, 4,160.6, 4,164.3, 4,050.2, 4,044.0 and 4,079.4, and session lows 4,130.1, 4,122.3, 4,036.8, 3,989.1, 3,990.9 and 4,001.6.
The 14-day average true range stands at 77.4 points, with the 14-day average daily range at 66.1. The 9-day figures are 73.0 and 65.3, and the 20-day 82.1 and 69.7. These were read after the reopen and carry the same caveat as the oscillators. One average true range either side of the settle spans 3,997.2 to 4,152.0. The deviation bands are built from five settlements. They run 4,021.5 to 4,127.7, 3,999.4 to 4,149.8 and 3,982.5 to 4,166.7, and describe settlement dispersion, not intraday reach. In the review's words, the FOMC statement on Wednesday can carry the contract outside any of them. Daily ranges over seven sessions ran 55.6, 44.8, 38.3, 127.5, 61.1, 53.1 and 77.8 points. Settlements ran 4,160.1, 4,142.6, 4,150.0, 4,060.4, 4,007.9, 4,038.4 and 4,074.6. Changes ran minus 21.0, minus 17.5, plus 7.4, minus 89.6, minus 52.5, plus 30.5 and plus 36.2. Over five sessions the contract is down 68.0 points from the 4,142.6 settle of 10/20. The settle sits 85.5 above the 52-week low.
A firmer dollar, steady yields and a 0.90 percent gain in gold
The gain came against the dollar. The dollar index closed at 102.32 in the provider's daily record, up 0.36 from Monday's 101.96, and the provider's commentary described that as a one-and-a-half-week high. Yields barely moved. The ten-year yield index closed at 4.99 percent against 4.98 percent. Gold rose 0.90 percent against that firmer dollar, so on Tuesday the usual inverse link between the two did not hold. No real-yield series was captured, so no real-yield level is asserted.
Commentary offered its own numbers. The provider's commentary said markets discount a 7 percent chance of a rate increase at this week's meeting and a 91 percent chance at the December 8-9 meeting, figures attributed to that commentary and not verified independently. A market commentary headline carried by the news feed at 1:45 PM ET said gold had reclaimed 4,060 dollars as oil retreated ahead of the Fed decision. That is the commentary's own account. No intraday series was kept, so this outlook places no price in time.
The Fed meets now. The FOMC meeting began on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as the calendar lists it. The statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, and the press conference for 2:30 PM ET, as the calendar lists them. A rate preview carried by the news feed at 3:53 PM ET judged a hold likely, with the open question being December. In the review's interpretation the statement and press conference are the first-order event for gold on Wednesday.
Tuesday's data are in. The durable goods report was released at 8:30 AM ET, as the calendar lists it, and printed 1.8 percent against a 1.9 percent forecast, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Consumer confidence printed 91.7 against an 81 forecast and the five-year note auction stopped at a 4.845 percent high yield, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. New home sales were released at 10:00 AM ET, as the calendar lists them.
The news feed carried a run of headlines. At 6:36 AM ET it carried an item that Iran's supreme leader called for meeting the conditions to end the war. At 2:52 PM ET it carried an item that Iran's president had left Russia, and at 3:49 PM ET the US President reiterating that oil is flowing out of the Strait of Hormuz. Israel held its election on Tuesday. The news feed carried exit polls from 4:00 PM ET onward showing no majority for either main bloc, results attributed to the news feed and unconfirmed. These are statements carried by the news feed rather than events confirmed for this review.
These items coincided with the session. No intraday series was kept, so no move is attributed to any one of them.
Oil fell. December WTI settled at 99.90, down 1.83 percent, and Brent's December contract at 113.88, down 1.67 percent. Silver's December contract settled at 54.513, up 0.32 percent, so the gold-to-silver ratio rose to 74.75 from 74.32 on Monday. Stocks rose. The S&P 500 cash index gained 0.60 percent and the volatility index closed at 17.52 against 18.39. In the review's interpretation lower crude reduced one input to inflation concern on the day, while the firmer dollar worked the other way.
No structural demand figure was available. No central-bank purchase figure, Chinese central-bank reserve data or exchange-traded fund holdings series was captured, so none is asserted.
The positioning report is a week old. Dated October 20, it puts managed-money long positions at 120,970 contracts and managed-money short positions at 16,764, for a net long of 104,206 against 107,089 a week earlier, a decline of 2,883. Commercial long positions stand at 59,531 and commercial short positions at 295,113. The report predates the 10/22 and 10/23 declines and the two gains since. Open interest on the December contract stands at 289,678 for Monday, October 26, in the provider's record. Tuesday's open interest was not yet reported. Tuesday's December volume was 132,510 contracts against a revised 126,007 on Monday, up 6,503 or 5.2 percent.
The fund console comes next. The gold fund's options console was read at about 6:18 PM ET on Tuesday, after the settle, with a page date of 2026-10-27; every figure below is that evening read, as of its read time. The fund is a proxy, used qualitatively only and never translated into futures prices; it tracks bullion at a different scale with a fee drag and has no clean basis to the December contract. Strikes come first. The console shows its largest gamma concentration at the 380 strike, its hedge level at 370, a call side ceiling at 450 and a put side support base at 350. It shows a previous close of 367.82 and a price of 372.10 at the read, up 1.16 percent.
Modeled call gamma reads minus 401.8 million against put gamma of minus 511.47 million on the proxy. Aggregate gamma is negative on both sides and larger on the put side. Call volume of 99.62 thousand against put volume of 93.28 thousand and a put-to-call open-interest ratio of 0.51 show calls slightly ahead of puts in the day's volume and well ahead in open interest, an observation only. Options volume says nothing about direction or demand. Then volatility. One-month implied volatility reads 20.97 percent against realised volatility of 17.38 percent, with an implied-volatility rank of 11.93 percent and a skew rank of 28.40 percent. The options-implied move is 4.87 dollars, about 1.32 percent of the 367.82 previous close.
These are readings taken at about 6:18 PM ET on Tuesday, after the session's prints. In the review's interpretation, implied volatility at that read sat 3.59 points above realised volatility with a low implied-volatility rank, so at that read time the fund's options market priced a moderate premium in a decision week. Negative aggregate gamma at the same read is, in the review's interpretation, consistent with hedging that can extend moves. At the read, the fund's price sat between the hedge level at 370 and the largest gamma concentration at 380. Modeled gamma on a proxy stays a non-directional lens. The console's high and low volatility point fields are excluded, and no fund figure sets a futures level here.
The trade map for Wednesday
The primary setup is a short. Its band runs 4,100 to 4,108, around Pivot R1 at 4,102.1 and the 9-day crossing price at 4,101.9, both inside it. The settle sits beneath every settlement average from the 9-day to the 200-day, and negative direction leads on the 9-day and 14-day directional systems. The composite reads "80% SELL" with direction "Weakening". The band sits 25.4 to 33.4 points above the settle. Risk sits beneath Pivot R2. The 4,126 stop sits 1.7 beneath one standard deviation resistance at 4,127.7 and 3.7 beneath Pivot R2 at 4,129.7. The 9-day average at 4,109.5, the 4,113.9 retracement, the 4,115.7 projection and the 4,122.5 stall level sit between the band and the stop. Targets step down. The first, 4,082, sits 2.6 above Tuesday's 4,079.4 high and 7.4 above the settle. Then comes 4,060, 2.8 beneath the 4,062.8 target price and 14.6 beneath the settle. The extended 4,038 sits 13.9 beneath the Pivot Point at 4,051.9 and 13.7 above Pivot S1 at 4,024.3. The review flags the evidence against the trade. Tuesday's higher high and higher low show the bounce has momentum. So the review calls the setup an analyst judgment that rallies into the averages are sold, with no measured edge behind it.
Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, near the settle, in the review's account. Australian consumer prices are listed at 8:30 PM ET and the New Zealand rate decision at 9:00 PM ET on Tuesday, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The review's night bias is neutral while the contract holds beneath Pivot R1 at 4,102.1, with an expected band of roughly 4,050 to 4,095. Pivot R1 sits 7.1 above that band's top.
London runs from 3:00 AM to 8:00 AM ET on Wednesday. German consumer sentiment is listed at 3:00 AM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The review's London band runs roughly 4,040 to 4,100, with a neutral to lower bias beneath Pivot R1. The Pivot Point at 4,051.9 is the first pivot support beneath the settle. Three references sit above it: the 5-day average at 4,066.3, the projection at 4,065.1 and the 4,062.8 target price.
Data arrive early. The advance economic indicators report is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET and the weekly petroleum status report for 10:30 AM ET on Wednesday, as the calendar lists them. The morning band runs roughly 4,030 to 4,110. The 4,100 to 4,108 setup band sits inside its top, the 4,108 band top 2.0 beneath 4,110.
Then the decision. The FOMC statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET and the press conference for 2:30 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists them. The afternoon band runs roughly 4,020 to 4,130. One standard deviation support at 4,021.5 sits 1.5 inside its bottom and Pivot R2 at 4,129.7 sits 0.3 inside its top. Results from two large technology companies are listed at 4:00 PM ET and 4:05 PM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Globex reopens at 6:00 PM ET on Wednesday after the 5:00 PM ET halt.
For the full session the review sets a low-range case of 4,040 to 4,105, a mid-range case, the most likely, of 4,020 to 4,130 and a high-range case of 3,997 to 4,152. Later in the week, GDP and the personal income and outlays report are scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, and the employment cost index for 8:30 AM ET on Friday, October 30, 2026, as the calendar lists them.
One path is weighted. In the review's analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between one standard deviation support at 4,021.5 and Pivot R2 at 4,129.7, with a test of the 4,100 to 4,108 band that fails weighted slightly above a sustained break higher. No measured frequency backs it. In the review's reading, the higher high, the higher low and the close near the high argue that the first move can still be up. The alternative that would invalidate the reading is a settle above Pivot R2 at 4,129.7 after the 2:00 PM ET statement. That would open the 18-day crossing price at 4,136.4 and the 4,152.5 retracement. A fall through 4,021.5 would instead bring Friday's 3,989.1 low back into play without the test the setup needs.
Tuesday's high carried 15.4 points through one short band, and its settle finished 25.4 points beneath the next.

1. Executive Summary
The December gold contract settled at 4,074.6 on Tuesday, up 36.2 or 0.90 percent from Monday's settle of 4,038.4, after trading between 4,079.4 and 4,001.6, a 77.8 point daily range. The settle finished at 93.8 percent of the range, close to the high, and the 77.8 point range was 1.18 times the published 14-day average daily range of 66.1 points. Tuesday's high sat 35.4 points above Monday's 4,044.0 high and Tuesday's low sat 10.7 points above Monday's 3,990.9 low, so the session printed a higher high and a higher low. The 36.2 point gain was the largest one-day gain since the 62.2 point gain of 10/15, and the 4,074.6 settle was the highest since the 4,150.0 settle of 10/21.
The gain came against a firmer dollar. The dollar index closed at 102.32 in the provider's daily record, up 0.36 from Monday's 101.96, and the ten-year yield index closed at 4.99 percent against 4.98 percent. December WTI crude fell 1.83 percent to 99.90. The provider's commentary said markets discount a 7 percent chance of a rate increase at this week's meeting and a 91 percent chance at the December 8-9 meeting, figures attributed to that commentary and not verified independently.
The news feed carried at 1:45 PM ET a market commentary headline that gold had reclaimed 4,060 dollars as oil retreated ahead of the Fed decision, and at 6:36 AM ET an item that Iran's supreme leader called for meeting the conditions to end the war. These items coincided with the session; no intraday series was kept for any path claim, so this review does not attribute the move to any one of them. The 52-week low remains Friday's 3,989.1, 85.5 points beneath the settle.
The composite multi-indicator read published for the Wednesday session is "80% SELL", against "88% SELL" the prior session, with strength "Average" and direction "Weakening". The settle sits beneath every settlement average from the 9-day to the 200-day and above only the 5-day. The published 14-day average true range is 77.4 points. The Primary Setup below is a short from the 4,100 to 4,108 band at Pivot R1 of 4,102.1, stopped at 4,126 beneath Pivot R2 at 4,129.7, with objectives at 4,082, 4,060 and an extended 4,038.
2. Price Action & Technical Structure
2.1 Intraday and Session Review
The Tuesday session opened at 4,032.8 at the Monday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 5.6 points beneath Monday's settle, marked a daily high of 4,079.4 and a daily low of 4,001.6, and settled at 4,074.6. This review makes no claim about the order in which the high and the low printed; the daily bar fixes the open, the extremes and the settle, and that is the evidence used here.
The settle sits 73.0 points above the low and 4.8 points beneath the high. The body of the daily bar measures 41.8 points from the 4,032.8 open to the 4,074.6 settle, with a lower shadow of 31.2 points beneath the open and an upper shadow of 4.8 points above the settle.
Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET, so the open, high and low shown on the provider's overview page, 4,073.6, 4,076.6 and 4,073.2, belong to the new Wednesday session and not to Tuesday's completed session. The provider's previous close of 4,074.6 is Tuesday's settle.
Tuesday's completed-session extremes are the completed-session inputs behind the published pivot ladder rather than an independently read bar. Pivot R3 at 4,179.9 minus Pivot S3 at 3,946.5, divided by three, returns 77.8, and Pivot R2 at 4,129.7 minus Pivot S2 at 3,974.1, divided by two, returns the same 77.8. Three times the Pivot Point of 4,051.9 less the 4,074.6 settle gives a high plus low sum of 8,081.1, against 8,081.0 for the pair of 4,079.4 and 4,001.6, a difference within the published 0.1 rounding, and that pair reproduces all seven published rungs.
Independent corroboration: the provider's settlement row and the chart's completed daily bar for the continuous contract carry the same 4,032.8 open, 4,079.4 high, 4,001.6 low and 4,074.6 settle.
2.2 Daily Structure
Tuesday's 4,079.4 high sits 35.4 points above Monday's 4,044.0, and the 4,001.6 low sits 10.7 points above Monday's 3,990.9, so the session printed a higher high and a higher low. Settlements over the last seven sessions read 4,160.1, 4,142.6, 4,150.0, 4,060.4, 4,007.9, 4,038.4 and 4,074.6, so Tuesday made two consecutive higher settles after the declines of 10/22 and 10/23.
The provider's published 52-week, 13-week and one-month low is Friday's 3,989.1, the one-month high is 4,315.8 from 09/28, the 13-week high is 4,755.0 from 08/25 and the 52-week high is 5,781.8 from 01/29. Over five sessions the contract is still down 68.0 points from the 4,142.6 settle of 10/20.
The February contract settled at 4,108.8 in the provider's daily record, 34.2 points above December against 33.8 on Monday.
2.3 4-Hour and Swing Structure
Daily ranges for the last seven sessions ran 55.6, 44.8, 38.3, 127.5, 61.1, 53.1 and 77.8, so Tuesday's range was the widest since the 127.5 range of 10/22. The settlement changes over the same seven sessions read minus 21.0, minus 17.5, plus 7.4, minus 89.6, minus 52.5, plus 30.5 and plus 36.2.
The retracement grid published for Wednesday places the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 4,113.9, 39.3 points above the settle, the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 4,152.5 and the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 4,191.0. No four-hour series was captured for this review, so swing structure here rests on daily bars only.
2.4 Moving Averages
The averages cited in this subsection were computed for this review from the provider's daily settlement series for the December contract, which holds 259 completed sessions through Tuesday; the partial Wednesday row of the reopened Globex session was dropped before counting. The 5-day average stands at 4,066.3, the 9-day at 4,109.5, the 20-day at 4,143.5, the 50-day at 4,325.9, the 100-day at 4,276.4 and the 200-day at 4,603.5.
The 4,074.6 settle sits 8.3 points above the 5-day average and beneath every longer one: 34.9 points beneath the 9-day, 68.9 beneath the 20-day, 251.3 beneath the 50-day, 201.8 beneath the 100-day and 528.9 beneath the 200-day. The 5-day average fell 13.6 points from Monday's 4,079.9, because the 10/20 settle of 4,142.6 left the window and was replaced by 4,074.6. The 20-day fell 5.3 points from 4,148.8, because the 09/29 settle of 4,179.7 left that window, and the 50-day fell 8.0 points from 4,333.9.
The 20-day average sits beneath the 50-day because the 30 older settlements in the 50-day window averaged higher, at 4,447.5. The 50-day sits above the 100-day because the 50 older settlements in the 100-day window averaged lower, at 4,227.0, and the 100-day sits beneath the 200-day because the 100 older settlements in the 200-day window averaged higher, at 4,930.6. The projection grid gives the prices at which each average would be crossed on Wednesday: 4,101.9 for the 9-day, 4,136.4 for the 18-day and 4,255.4 for the 40-day.
2.5 Oscillator and Trend Readings
The oscillator figures below are as published on the provider's technical page, read at about 6:22 PM ET on Tuesday after the 6:00 PM ET reopen, so the provider may already be blending the reopened session's quote into them; they are the provider's published readings, not computations made for this review. The 9-day relative strength reads 39.64, the 14-day relative strength 39.17 and the 20-day relative strength 40.24.
The 9-day raw stochastic reads 36.96 percent and the 14-day raw stochastic 33.77 percent, while the 14-day stochastic %K reads 20.22 percent and the 14-day stochastic %D 17.00 percent, so %K sits above %D in the lower part of the range.
The 9-day directional index ADX reads 36.42 with the 9-day +DI at 12.21 and the 9-day -DI at 28.56; the 14-day directional index ADX reads 26.98 with the 14-day +DI at 12.55 and the 14-day -DI at 26.52, so negative direction leads on both. The 9-day historic volatility reads 17.17 percent and the 14-day historic volatility 16.89 percent.
The composite multi-indicator snapshot captured for this review reads, verbatim: Overall Average "80% SELL", Current Strength "Average", Current Direction "Weakening", Composite Indicator "SELL". The short-term group reads "Average: 80% SELL", the medium-term group "Average: 100% SELL" and the long-term group "Average: 33% SELL". The snapshot history reads Yesterday "88% SELL", Last Week "56% SELL" and Last Month "64% SELL".
2.6 Volatility and Expected Range
The published 14-day average true range stands at 77.4 points and the 14-day average daily range at 66.1 points; the 9-day average true range is 73.0 with a 9-day average daily range of 65.3, and the 20-day average true range is 82.1 with a 20-day average daily range of 69.7. These were read after the reopen and carry the same caveat as the oscillators. Tuesday's 77.8 point range was 1.18 times the 14-day average daily range.
Adding and subtracting the 14-day average true range of 77.4 points from the 4,074.6 settle frames Wednesday between 3,997.2 and 4,152.0. The published standard-deviation bands are built from five settlements: one deviation spans 4,021.5 to 4,127.7, two spans 3,999.4 to 4,149.8 and three spans 3,982.5 to 4,166.7. These bands describe settlement dispersion, not intraday reach, and the FOMC statement on Wednesday can carry the contract outside any of them.
3. Key Levels
3.1 Resistance
Above the 4,074.6 settle, the first overhead reference is Tuesday's 4,079.4 high, followed by the 9-day average crossing price at 4,101.9 and Pivot R1 at 4,102.1, then the 9-day average at 4,109.5, the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 4,113.9 and the 14-3 day raw stochastic projection at 50 percent, 4,115.7. The MACD stall level at 4,122.5, one standard deviation resistance at 4,127.7 and Pivot R2 at 4,129.7 form the next band, with the 18-day average crossing price at 4,136.4 above. Two standard deviations resistance at 4,149.8, the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 4,152.5, three standard deviations resistance at 4,166.7 and Pivot R3 at 4,179.9 are the extended references.
3.2 Support
Beneath the settle sits the 5-day average at 4,066.3, then the 30 percent raw stochastic projection at 4,065.1, then the published target price at 4,062.8 and the Pivot Point at 4,051.9. The 20 percent raw stochastic projection at 4,039.7, the 3-10 day crossover stall level at 4,029.0, Pivot S1 at 4,024.3 and one standard deviation support at 4,021.5 form the next band, with the 14-day %K stochastic stall level at 4,015.8 and Tuesday's 4,001.6 low beneath. Two standard deviations support at 3,999.4, Friday's 3,989.1 low, which is the published 52-week low, three standard deviations support at 3,982.5, Pivot S2 at 3,974.1 and Pivot S3 at 3,946.5 are the extended references.
4. Macro Drivers
4.1 Dollar and Real Yields
The dollar index closed at 102.32 in the provider's daily record, up 0.36 from Monday's 101.96, and the provider's commentary described it as a one-and-a-half-week high. The ten-year yield index closed at 4.99 percent against 4.98 percent. Gold rose 0.90 percent against that firmer dollar, so on Tuesday the usual inverse link between the two did not hold. No real-yield series was captured for this review, so no real-yield level is asserted.
4.2 Fed and Monetary Policy
The FOMC meeting began on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as the calendar lists it. The FOMC statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the press conference for 2:30 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it. The news feed carried at 3:53 PM ET a rate preview judging a hold likely, with the open question being December. The provider's commentary put the market-implied chance of a rate increase at 7 percent for this week and 91 percent for the December 8-9 meeting, figures attributed to that commentary and not verified independently. In this review's interpretation the statement and press conference are the first-order event for gold on Wednesday.
4.3 Geopolitical Backdrop
The news feed carried at 6:36 AM ET an item that Iran's supreme leader called for meeting the conditions to end the war, at 2:52 PM ET an item that Iran's president had left Russia, and at 3:49 PM ET the President reiterating that oil is flowing out of the Strait of Hormuz. Israel held its election on Tuesday, and the news feed carried exit polls from 4:00 PM ET onward showing no majority for either main bloc, results attributed to the news feed and unconfirmed. These are statements carried by the news feed rather than events confirmed for this review.
4.4 China and Structural Demand (Central Bank Buying, PBOC, ETF Flows)
No central-bank purchase figure, PBOC reserve data or exchange-traded fund holdings series was captured for this review, so none is asserted. The gold fund's options console, used qualitatively in section 5, showed the fund up 1.16 percent at the 6:18 PM ET read.
4.5 Energy and Cross-Asset
December WTI crude settled at 99.90, down 1.83 percent, and Brent's December contract at 113.88, down 1.67 percent. Silver's December contract settled at 54.513, up 0.32 percent, so the gold-to-silver ratio rose to 74.75 from 74.32 on Monday. The S&P 500 cash index rose 0.60 percent and the volatility index closed at 17.52 against 18.39. In this review's interpretation lower crude reduced one input to inflation concern on the day, while the firmer dollar worked the other way.
4.6 Institutional Positioning (COT, ETF Holdings, Speculator Length)
The weekly positioning report dated October 20, shown on the provider's overview, puts managed-money long positions at 120,970 contracts and managed-money short positions at 16,764, for a net long of 104,206 against 107,089 a week earlier. Commercial long positions stand at 59,531 and commercial short positions at 295,113. The report predates the declines of 10/22 and 10/23 and the two gains since.
Open interest on the December contract reads 289,678 for Monday, October 26, in the provider's record, and Tuesday's open interest was not yet reported. Tuesday's December volume was 132,510 contracts.
5. Gold Fund Options Context (Proxy)
The gold fund's options console was read at about 6:18 PM ET on Tuesday, after the settle, with a page date of 2026-10-27; every figure in this section is that evening read. The fund proxy is used qualitatively only and is never translated into futures prices; the fund tracks bullion at a different scale with a fee drag and has no clean basis to the December contract.
The console shows the largest gamma concentration at the 380 strike, the hedge level at 370, the call side ceiling at 450 and the put side support base at 350, against a previous close of 367.82 shown on the console and a price of 372.10 at the read. Modeled call gamma reads minus 401.8 million against put gamma of minus 511.47 million, so aggregate gamma is negative on both sides and larger on the put side. Call volume of 99.62 thousand against put volume of 93.28 thousand and a put-to-call open-interest ratio of 0.51 show calls slightly ahead of puts in the day's volume and well ahead in open interest.
One-month implied volatility reads 20.97 percent against realised volatility of 17.38 percent, the implied-volatility rank 11.93 percent and the skew rank 28.40 percent, with an options-implied move of 4.87 dollars. The console's high and low volatility point fields are excluded.
In this review's interpretation, the 6:18 PM ET snapshot shows implied volatility 3.59 points above realised volatility with a low implied-volatility rank, so at that read time the fund's options market priced a moderate premium in a decision week. Negative aggregate gamma at the same read is, in this review's interpretation, consistent with hedging that can extend moves, and the fund's price at the read sits between the hedge level at 370 and the largest gamma concentration at 380. Nothing in this section is used to set a futures level; every level in this review originates in published pivot arithmetic, published standard-deviation bands, published retracement and moving-average projections, settlement averages computed from the provider's daily record, or the completed-session extremes described in section 2.1.
6. Forecast
6.1 Night Session (6:00 PM ET Tuesday to 3:00 AM ET Wednesday, Globex/Asia)
Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 near the settle. Australian consumer prices are listed at 8:30 PM ET and the New Zealand rate decision at 9:00 PM ET on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Bias neutral while the contract holds beneath Pivot R1 at 4,102.1, expected band roughly 4,050 to 4,095.
6.2 London Session (3:00 AM to 8:00 AM ET Wednesday)
German consumer sentiment is listed at 3:00 AM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Bias neutral to lower beneath Pivot R1 at 4,102.1, expected band roughly 4,040 to 4,100, with the Pivot Point at 4,051.9 the first pivot support, beneath the 5-day average at 4,066.3, the 4,065.1 projection and the 4,062.8 target price.
6.3 Morning Session (9:30 AM to 12:00 PM ET Wednesday, US Open)
The advance economic indicators report is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the weekly petroleum status report for 10:30 AM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it. Expected band roughly 4,030 to 4,110, with the 4,100 to 4,108 setup band inside the top of that range, its 4,108 top 2.0 beneath 4,110.
6.4 Afternoon Session (12:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET Wednesday)
The FOMC statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the press conference for 2:30 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it. Expected band roughly 4,020 to 4,130, with the outer edges near one standard deviation support at 4,021.5 and Pivot R2 at 4,129.7.
6.5 Night Session Forward (6:00 PM ET Wednesday)
Globex reopens at 6:00 PM ET on Wednesday after the 5:00 PM ET halt. The GDP and personal income and outlays reports are scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists it, so the forward window carries the reaction to the press conference into the inflation data.
6.6 Expected Range (Wednesday Full Session)
Low-range scenario: 4,040 to 4,105
Mid-range scenario (most likely): 4,020 to 4,130
High-range scenario: 3,997 to 4,152
6.7 Most Likely Path
In this review's analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between one standard deviation support at 4,021.5 and Pivot R2 at 4,129.7, with a test of the 4,100 to 4,108 band around Pivot R1 that fails weighted slightly above a sustained break higher. The composite reads "80% SELL" with negative direction leading on both directional systems and the settle beneath every average from the 9-day to the 200-day, while the higher high and higher low and the close near the high argue that the first move can still be up.
The alternative that would invalidate this reading is a settle above Pivot R2 at 4,129.7 after the FOMC statement at 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, which would open the 18-day average crossing price at 4,136.4 and the 4,152.5 retracement. On the other side, a fall through one standard deviation support at 4,021.5 would bring Friday's 3,989.1 low back into play without the test the setup needs.
7. Wednesday Economic Calendar
Tuesday's releases are complete. The durable goods report was released at 8:30 AM ET on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and printed 1.8 percent against a 1.9 percent forecast, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Consumer confidence printed 91.7 against an 81 forecast and the five-year note auction stopped at a 4.845 percent high yield, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. New home sales were released at 10:00 AM ET on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as the calendar lists it.
On Wednesday, October 28, 2026 German consumer sentiment is listed at 3:00 AM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The advance economic indicators report is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the weekly petroleum status report for 10:30 AM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it. The FOMC statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET and the press conference for 2:30 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, both as the calendar lists them. Results from two large technology companies are listed at 4:00 PM ET and 4:05 PM ET, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed.
Later in the week, GDP and the personal income and outlays report are scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the employment cost index for 8:30 AM ET on Friday, October 30, 2026, as the calendar lists it. In this review's judgment the first-order event for gold on Wednesday is the 2:00 PM ET FOMC statement and the 2:30 PM ET press conference.
8. Primary Trade Setup
Direction: Short
Rationale: The composite reads "80% SELL", negative direction leads on the 9-day and 14-day directional systems, and the settle sits beneath every settlement average from the 9-day to the 200-day. A rise into the 4,100 to 4,108 band, at Pivot R1 of 4,102.1 and the 9-day average crossing price at 4,101.9, offers a short with a defined risk point beneath Pivot R2 at 4,129.7. Tuesday's higher high and higher low show the bounce has momentum, so the setup is an analyst judgment that rallies into the averages are sold, not a measured edge.
Entry Zone: 4,100 to 4,108
Stop Loss: 4,126 (beneath Pivot R2 at 4,129.7 and one standard deviation resistance at 4,127.7)
Target 1 (T1): 4,082 (above Tuesday's 4,079.4 high)
Target 2 (T2): 4,060 (beneath the published target price at 4,062.8)
Target 3 (T3, extended): 4,038 (beneath the Pivot Point at 4,051.9 and above Pivot S1 at 4,024.3)
Risk-to-Reward: Approximately 1:1 to T1, 1:2 to T2, 1:3 to T3
Invalidation: A settle above Pivot R2 at 4,129.7 negates the thesis. Short of that, the edge is removed by acceptance above the entry band rather than by a touch, defined as two consecutive 30-minute closes above 4,108.
Macro override: A statement or press conference read as easing rate-increase expectations, or a sharp fall in the dollar, would support gold. In that scenario a move through the 4,126 stop invalidates the short before the targets, and the 18-day average crossing price at 4,136.4 becomes the reference, 10.4 points beyond the stop and inside one 14-day average true range of 77.4 points.
Sources and methodology
This outlook is built from our session review of the December gold contract, the December ’26 contract, prepared after Tuesday's close on October 27, 2026 for the Wednesday, October 28, 2026 session. Tuesday's completed extremes are the inputs behind the published pivot ladder for Wednesday: Pivot R3 at 4,179.9 less Pivot S3 at 3,946.5, divided by three, and Pivot R2 at 4,129.7 less Pivot S2 at 3,974.1, divided by two, both return 77.8, and three times the 4,051.9 Pivot Point less the settle gives 8,081.1, which the 4,079.4 high and the 4,001.6 low reproduce to the published rounding at 8,081.0. The provider's settlement row and the chart's completed Tuesday bar carry the same open, extremes and settle. Only those figures, the dated 2026-10-27 row of the provider's daily record and the review's statements are used to grade Tuesday's card. No intraday series was kept for Tuesday, so no statement here places the high or the low in time. Tuesday's session opened at the Monday 6:00 PM ET reopen. Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Tuesday, so the open, high and low shown on the provider's overview page after the reopen, 4,073.6, 4,076.6 and 4,073.2, belong to the Wednesday session and are not used as Tuesday's range; the provider's previous close of 4,074.6 is Tuesday's settle.
Monday's 2026-10-26 row has been revised since our Tuesday outlook: volume now reads 126,007 contracts against the preliminary 119,019, and open interest 289,678, which that outlook listed as not yet reported; Monday's prices are unchanged. Tuesday's open interest was not yet reported. The moving averages were computed from the provider's daily settlement series of 259 completed sessions through Tuesday, with the partial row of the reopened session dropped, and rounded once to the 0.1 tick; the oscillators and range measures are cited as published, read at about 6:22 PM ET on Tuesday after the reopen, and the composite strings are quoted verbatim. The gold fund is a proxy used qualitatively; its gamma figures are modeled, its high and low volatility point fields were not used, and no fund level is translated into a futures price. The percent change for the dollar index, the gold-to-silver ratios, the managed-money net change, the volume change and the fund's implied move as a percent are computed from the stated figures. Scenario ranges are analyst judgment, and items marked unconfirmed come from the news-feed calendar or the news feed.
