At 4,044.0, Monday's high reached the top of the 4,036 to 4,044 short band we set for the session, and nothing printed above it. December gold rebounded 30.5 points, or 0.76 percent, from Friday's 4,007.9 and settled at 4,038.4, inside that band. The low was 3,990.9. The daily bar cannot show which extreme came first.
The dollar gave no help. The dollar index firmed to 101.96 from 101.81 and the ten-year yield index edged to 4.99 percent from 4.98 percent, so the gain did not come with a softer dollar. The session traded entirely inside Friday's range and ended a run of two lower settles. Tuesday's primary setup is another short, from 4,056 to 4,064, a band around Pivot R1 at 4,058.0. The settle sits 17.6 points beneath it.
December gold settled at 4,038.4, 14.0 points above the 4,024.4 Pivot Point and 19.6 beneath Pivot R1 at 4,058.0. Every settlement average sits above it, from the 5-day at 4,079.9 to the 200-day at 4,606.4. The primary setup for Tuesday is a short from 4,056 to 4,064, with Pivot R1 inside the band, stop 4,082 above Pivot R2 at 4,077.5, and targets 4,038, 4,016 and an extended 3,994. The band sits above the market. Target 1 sits at Monday's settle, 0.4 points beneath it, and Target 2 22.4 points beneath it. Negative direction leads on both directional windows and the composite reads "88% SELL". The FOMC meeting begins on Tuesday, with the statement on Wednesday, as the calendar lists them.
Monday's 4,044.0 high reached the top of the 4,036 to 4,044 short band
In Monday’s outlook we set a short from 4,036 to 4,044, stop 4,062, with targets at 4,018, 3,996 and an extended 3,974. Its status line put the contract at 4,007.9 at the Friday settle. That left 28.1 points to the band. Monday's bar, from the review and the dated 2026-10-26 row of the provider's daily record, opened at 4,012.2 at the Sunday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 4.3 above Friday's settle and 23.8 beneath the band. It marked a high of 4,044.0 and a low of 3,990.9 and settled at 4,038.4. The band traded.
It traded to the tick. The 4,044.0 high matched the band top exactly, 8.0 above the 4,036 bottom, and stopped 18.0 beneath the 4,062 stop. Nothing printed above 4,044.0, so the card's acceptance test, two consecutive 30-minute closes above 4,044, could not have been met. The settle finished inside the band, 2.4 above its bottom and 5.6 beneath its top. It sat 22.0 points beneath the invalidation line, a settle above Thursday's 4,060.4 settle. No fill and no result is asserted.
Two targets sit inside the bar. The 4,018 first target lies between the open and the high, and the low went 27.1 beneath it. The low also went 5.1 beneath the 3,996 second target. The extended 3,974 never printed; the low stopped 16.9 above it. Those prints carry no result for the card. The settle finished 20.4 above the first target.
Order is the missing piece. No intraday series was kept for Monday. The daily bar fixes the open, the two extremes and the settle, and nothing more. It cannot show whether the high or the low came first, or whether the target prices traded before or after the band, so we make no claim about the path between them.
The path call held its bounds. Our Monday outlook weighted a hold between Pivot S2 at 3,954.6 and Pivot R2 at 4,076.8, with a rebound toward the band that fails beneath Thursday's 4,060.4 settle weighted slightly above a recovery. Both extremes stayed inside. The high sat 32.8 beneath Pivot R2 and 16.4 beneath Thursday's settle, and the low 36.3 above Pivot S2. The outlook's alternative, a renewed safe-haven bid or a reversal lower in the dollar and yields carrying the contract back above Thursday's 4,060.4 settle toward one standard deviation resistance at 4,074.8, did not come about.
The range work held. The whole bar sat inside the low-range case of 3,975 to 4,045, with the low 15.9 above its bottom and the high 1.0 beneath its top. It also sat inside the most likely case of 3,955 to 4,065, by 35.9 at the bottom and 21.0 at the top. One deviation support at 3,941.0 held by 49.9 and one deviation resistance at 4,074.8 by 30.8. The average-true-range envelope of 3,928.7 to 4,087.1 held by 62.2 and 43.1. The four session bands cannot be scored. Each depends on when a price printed, and the daily bar does not say.
The high went 1.6 points above Pivot R1 at 4,042.4, and the low stayed 9.6 above Pivot S1 at 3,981.3. The 4,015.7 Pivot Point sat inside the range. The low stopped 1.8 above Friday's 3,989.1 low, which our Monday outlook listed as the 52-week low and which still stands. The macro override named a renewed safe-haven bid on Gulf escalation, or a sharp reversal lower in the dollar and yields. The dollar index firmed instead. The stop never traded. We grade the card as written.
One row anchors the score. The dated 2026-10-26 row of the provider's daily record reads 4,012.2, 4,044.0, 3,990.9 and 4,038.4 on 119,019 contracts. The review states the same prices and volume. Monday's open interest was not yet reported. Friday's 2026-10-23 row was revised. It now carries 180,320 contracts against the preliminary 173,280 our Monday outlook carried, and open interest of 294,623, which that outlook listed as not yet reported. The review cites the same 180,320 and 294,623 for Friday.
The 4,056 to 4,064 band, Pivot R1 at 4,058.0 and the 4,024.4 Pivot Point
Resistance starts at the settle. The 20 percent raw stochastic projection at 4,039.7 sits 1.3 above it, Monday's 4,044.0 high 5.6 above and Friday's 4,050.2 high 11.8 above. That Friday high sits 5.8 beneath the band.
Then the band. Pivot R1 at 4,058.0 sits 2.0 above its bottom, 2.0 beneath the 4,060 midpoint and 6.0 beneath the 4,064 top. The 30 percent raw stochastic projection at 4,065.1 sits 1.1 above the top, and the 14-day %K stall level at 4,067.4 sits 3.4 above it. Pivot R2 at 4,077.5 sits 4.5 beneath the 4,082 stop. The 5-day average at 4,079.9 sits 2.1 beneath it.
Beyond the stop the list thickens. One standard deviation resistance at 4,101.9 sits 19.9 beyond it. Next come the 9-day average stall level at 4,107.9, which matches the 10/14 settle, and Pivot R3 at 4,111.1. A tight knot follows. The 9-day average at 4,113.2, the 9-day crossing price at 4,113.8 and the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 4,113.9 sit within 0.7 points, the last of them 75.5 above the settle. One average true range above the settle reaches 4,115.8. Two standard deviations resistance at 4,128.2 and the 18-day crossing price at 4,141.6 are the review's extended references. Higher up sit the 10/20 settle of 4,142.6, three standard deviations resistance at 4,148.4, the 20-day average at 4,148.8, the 10/21 settle of 4,150.0 and the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 4,152.5. Next come the 10/19 settle of 4,160.1, the 09/28 settle of 4,168.4, the 10/15 settle of 4,170.1, the 10/13 settle of 4,177.3, the 10/16 settle of 4,181.1 and the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 4,191.0. The rest is distant. It takes in the 40-day crossing at 4,263.6, the 100-day at 4,281.4, the 4,315.8 one-month high from 09/28 and the 50-day at 4,333.9, 295.5 above the settle. Then the 200-day at 4,606.4, the 4,755.0 13-week high from 08/25 and the 5,781.8 52-week high from 01/29.
Support is close too. The Pivot Point at 4,024.4 sits 14.0 beneath the settle, with Monday's 4,012.2 open and Friday's 4,007.9 settle beneath it. Pivot S1 at 4,004.9 sits 33.5 down, and the published target price at 3,998.4 sits 6.5 beneath that. Two lows come next. Monday's 3,990.9 low and Friday's 3,989.1 low sit 1.8 apart, and Friday's is also the one-month, 13-week and 52-week low. Three references follow. The 3-10 day crossover stall level at 3,982.0, one standard deviation support at 3,974.9 and Pivot S2 at 3,971.3 sit beneath, the last 67.1 down. The 14-day relative strength projection at 30 percent, 3,962.0, the 3,961.0 average-true-range mark, Pivot S3 at 3,951.8, two standard deviations support at 3,948.6 and three standard deviations support at 3,928.4 are the extended references.
Every average sits above the settle. The gaps run 41.5 points to the 5-day at 4,079.9, 74.8 to the 9-day at 4,113.2, 110.4 to the 20-day at 4,148.8, 295.5 to the 50-day at 4,333.9, 243.0 to the 100-day at 4,281.4 and 568.0 to the 200-day at 4,606.4. The 5-day fell 24.3 from 4,104.2. The 10/19 settle of 4,160.1 left its window and Monday's 4,038.4 replaced it. The 20-day fell 6.5 from 4,155.3 as the 09/28 settle of 4,168.4 dropped out, and the 50-day eased 8.0 from 4,341.9. Older settlements explain the order. The 30 older ones in the 50-day window averaged 4,457.3, the 50 older ones in the 100-day window 4,228.9 and the 100 older ones in the 200-day window 4,931.5. Tuesday's crossing prices are 4,113.8 for the 9-day, 4,141.6 for the 18-day and 4,263.6 for the 40-day. December trades beneath February, which settled at 4,072.2 in the provider's daily record, 33.8 above December against 33.4 on Friday.
Momentum sits low on its scale. Relative strength reads 32.35 on the 9-day, 34.68 on the 14-day and 37.31 on the 20-day. The raw stochastics read 21.31 percent on the 9-day and 19.47 percent on the 14-day. The 14-day %K at 12.79 percent sits beneath %D at 18.83 percent. Sellers lead on direction. On the 9-day, negative direction at 32.39 leads positive at 7.74 with the ADX at 35.96; on the 14-day, 28.57 leads 10.00 with the ADX at 26.31. Historic volatility reads 17.57 percent on the 9-day and 16.66 percent on the 14-day. These are the provider's published readings, taken at about 6:23 PM ET on Monday after the 6:00 PM ET reopen, so the provider may already blend the reopened session's quote into them.
The composite read published for Tuesday reads "88% SELL", with "Current Strength" shown as "Strong", "Current Direction" as "Strengthening" and the composite trend indicator at "SELL". The short-term and medium-term groups both read "Average: 100% SELL" and the long-term "Average: 33% SELL". History: "88% SELL" yesterday, "48% SELL" last week and "40% SELL" last month.
Monday's range was the narrowest since 10/21. Its 53.1 points were 0.78 times the 14-day average daily range of 68.2, against 38.3 on 10/21. The high sat 6.2 beneath Friday's 4,050.2 and the low 1.8 above Friday's 3,989.1, a session inside Friday's range. The settle at 89.5 percent of the range left a body of 26.2 points above the open, an upper shadow of 5.6 above the settle and a lower shadow of 21.3 beneath the open. The 30.5 point gain was the largest since the 62.2 point gain of 10/15. It ended two consecutive lower settles. Session highs over six sessions ran 4,211.2, 4,174.9, 4,160.6, 4,164.3, 4,050.2 and 4,044.0, and session lows 4,155.6, 4,130.1, 4,122.3, 4,036.8, 3,989.1 and 3,990.9.
The 14-day average true range stands at 77.4 points, with the 14-day average daily range at 68.2. The 9-day figures are 72.4 and 67.6, and the 20-day 82.3 and 69.5. These were read after the reopen and carry the same caveat as the oscillators. One average true range either side of the settle spans 3,961.0 to 4,115.8. The deviation bands are built from five settlements and centre on the settle. They run 3,974.9 to 4,101.9, 3,948.6 to 4,128.2 and 3,928.4 to 4,148.4, and describe settlement dispersion, not intraday reach. Daily ranges over ten sessions ran 55.1, 98.5, 76.8, 52.9, 55.6, 44.8, 38.3, 127.5, 61.1 and 53.1 points. Settlements ran 4,177.3, 4,107.9, 4,170.1, 4,181.1, 4,160.1, 4,142.6, 4,150.0, 4,060.4, 4,007.9 and 4,038.4. Changes ran minus 13.3, minus 69.4, plus 62.2, plus 11.0, minus 21.0, minus 17.5, plus 7.4, minus 89.6, minus 52.5 and plus 30.5. Over five sessions the contract is down 121.7 points from the 4,160.1 settle of 10/19. The settle sits 49.3 above the 52-week low. No prior-quarter high or low was captured, so the 13-week extremes serve as the quarterly reference.
A firmer dollar, steady yields and a 0.76 percent gain in gold
The lift came without the dollar. The dollar index closed at 101.96 in the provider's daily record, up 0.15 from Friday's 101.81, after trading between 102.06 and 101.58. Yields barely moved. The ten-year yield index closed at 4.99 percent against 4.98 percent and the thirty-year at 5.30 percent against 5.31 percent. Gold rose on Monday while the dollar firmed slightly and yields held.
Commentary offered its own accounts. The provider's commentary attributed the dollar's gain to firmer US activity data and to weakness in Latin American currencies. A currency commentary item carried by the news feed at 2:30 PM ET described caution ahead of the Fed. A second currency commentary item, carried by the news feed at 1:45 PM ET, described gold reclaiming 4,000 as oil eased ahead of the Fed decision. The review treats those items as commentary, not as measured flows. No intraday series was kept, so this outlook places no price in time.
Activity data ran firm. The Chicago Fed national activity index printed 0.07 against a forecast of minus 0.095 at 8:30 AM ET and the Dallas Fed manufacturing index printed 13.40 against 8.8 at 10:31 AM ET, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The US two-year note auction stopped at a 4.708 percent high yield against 4.787 percent previously, with a 2.590 bid-to-cover, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The news feed carried an effective federal funds rate of 3.88 percent for October 23.
The Fed meets this week. Investment-bank commentary carried by the news feed expects the committee to skip a rate increase at the October meeting and deliver a second increase in December. A rating agency note carried by the news feed at 2:29 PM ET said broader US price pressures raise inflation persistence risk. Then the calendar. The FOMC meeting begins on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, and the statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists them.
Gulf diplomacy ran through the day. At 9:10 AM ET the news feed carried the start of a meeting in Tehran between Iran and senior Saudi, Pakistani and Turkish officials, and at 11:47 AM ET the agreement to continue those talks. More followed. At 3:36 PM ET it carried Iranian state television saying Iran is open to a shorter US proposal timeline if conditions are met. At 11:00 AM ET the feed carried the Kremlin saying the Russian president will meet Iran's president on Tuesday in Moscow, and at 2:43 PM ET an Iranian warning to Israel that it would respond in kind to any threat.
Two elections sit on the calendar. The Israeli election runs on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, and the US midterm elections are listed for Tuesday, November 3, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. These are statements carried by the news feed rather than events confirmed for this review, and no haven flow is measured here.
Oil fell. December WTI settled at 101.76, down 1.46 percent, and Brent's December contract at 115.81, down 0.78 percent. Silver's December contract rose 0.392 to 54.341, up 0.73 percent, and copper's December contract rose 0.53 percent to 6.542. The gold-to-silver ratio held at 74.32 against 74.29 on Friday. Stocks rose. The S&P 500 cash index closed at 7,676.77, up 0.70 percent, the Nasdaq-100 cash index rose 1.09 percent, and the volatility index fell to 18.39 from 19.45.
In the review's interpretation, gold's rebound coincided with easier oil and a firmer risk appetite rather than with a haven bid; that reading is inference, not a measured flow. These items coincided with the session. No intraday series was kept, so no move is attributed to any one of them.
No structural demand figure was available. No central-bank purchase figure, Chinese import figure or exchange-traded fund holdings figure was captured, so no structural-demand change is asserted. A currency commentary item carried by the news feed described a gradual bullish bias for the Chinese yuan against the dollar. The review records it without assessing any effect on gold demand.
The positioning report is six days old. Dated October 20, it puts managed-money long positions at 120,970 contracts and managed-money short positions at 16,764, for a net long of 104,206 against 107,089 a week earlier, a decline of 2,883. Commercial long positions stand at 59,531 and commercial short positions at 295,113. The report predates the 10/22 and 10/23 declines and Monday's gain. Open interest on the December contract stands at 294,623 for Friday in the provider's record. Monday's open interest was not yet reported. Monday's December volume was 119,019 contracts against 180,320 on Friday, down 61,301 or 34.0 percent, so Monday's gain came on lower volume than Friday's decline.
The fund console comes next. The gold fund's options console was read at about 6:18 PM ET on Monday, after the settle, with a page date of 2026-10-26; every figure below is that evening read. The fund is a proxy, used qualitatively only and never translated into futures prices; it tracks bullion at a different scale with a fee drag and has no clean basis to the December contract. Strikes come first. The console shows its largest gamma concentration and its hedge level at the 380 strike, a call side ceiling at 450 and a put side support base at 350, against a previous close of 366.61 shown on the console.
Modeled call gamma reads minus 382.6 million against put gamma of minus 500.94 million on the proxy. Aggregate gamma is negative on both sides and larger on the put side. Call volume of 180.02 thousand against put volume of 108.58 thousand and a put-to-call open-interest ratio of 0.5 show calls outnumbering puts in the day's volume and in open interest, an observation only. Options volume says nothing about direction or demand. Then volatility. One-month implied volatility reads 21.60 percent against realised volatility of 21.10 percent, with an implied-volatility rank of 14.50 percent and a skew rank of 22.00 percent. The options-implied move is 5 dollars, about 1.36 percent of the 366.61 previous close.
These are readings taken at about 6:18 PM ET on Monday. In the review's interpretation, implied volatility at that read sat close to realised volatility, with a low implied-volatility rank, so at that read time the fund's options market was not pricing volatility far above what had recently been realised. Negative aggregate gamma at the same read is, in the review's interpretation, consistent with hedging that can extend moves rather than damp them. The fund's previous close sits between the put side support base and the largest gamma concentration. Modeled gamma on a proxy stays a non-directional lens. The console's live price field and its high and low volatility point fields are excluded, and no fund figure sets a futures level here.
The trade map for Tuesday
The primary setup is a short. Its band runs 4,056 to 4,064, around Pivot R1 at 4,058.0. The settle sits beneath every settlement average from the 5-day to the 200-day, and negative direction leads on the 9-day and 14-day directional systems. The composite reads "88% SELL" with direction "Strengthening". The band sits 17.6 to 25.6 points above the settle. Pivot R1 sits inside it, 2.0 above the bottom, and Friday's 4,050.2 high sits 5.8 beneath it. Risk sits above Pivot R2. The 4,082 stop clears Pivot R2 at 4,077.5 by 4.5 and sits 19.9 beneath one standard deviation resistance at 4,101.9, with the stochastic projections at 4,065.1 and 4,067.4 between the band and the stop. Targets step down to 4,038, at Monday's 4,038.4 settle and 0.4 beneath it. Then comes 4,016, 8.4 beneath the Pivot Point and 11.1 above Pivot S1 at 4,004.9. The extended 3,994 sits 4.4 beneath the 3,998.4 target price and 4.9 above the 3,989.1 52-week low. The review flags the evidence against the trade. Monday settled near its high inside Friday's range, and the 9-day relative strength sits at 32.35. So the review calls this an analyst judgment that rallies are sold while the trend measures stay negative, with no measured edge behind it.
Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Monday, October 26, 2026, near the settle, in the review's account. Australian consumer prices are listed at 8:30 PM ET and the New Zealand rate decision at 9:00 PM ET on Monday, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The review's night bias is neutral to lower beneath Pivot R1 at 4,058.0, with an expected band of roughly 4,005 to 4,060.
London runs from 3:00 AM to 8:00 AM ET on Tuesday. French consumer confidence is listed at 3:45 AM ET and eurozone money supply at 5:00 AM ET, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The review's London band runs roughly 3,995 to 4,065, with a neutral to lower bias. Beneath the Pivot Point at 4,024.4, Pivot S1 at 4,004.9 is the next pivot support, with Monday's 4,012.2 open and Friday's 4,007.9 settle between them. Above the settle, the projection at 4,039.7 and the 4,044.0 and 4,050.2 highs sit beneath Pivot R1 at 4,058.0.
Data arrive early. The advance durable goods report is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Tuesday, as the calendar lists it, with a news-feed consensus of 1.9 percent against minus 0.1 percent previously, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. New home sales are scheduled for 10:00 AM ET, as the calendar lists them, and the consumer confidence survey is listed at 10:00 AM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The morning band runs roughly 3,985 to 4,080. The 3,989.1 52-week low sits 4.1 inside its bottom, and Pivot R2 at 4,077.5 sits 2.5 inside its top. In the review's judgment the first-order scheduled item for gold on Tuesday is the 8:30 AM ET durable goods report.
Afternoon comes next. The US five-year note auction is listed at 1:00 PM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, and gold settles at 1:30 PM ET. The afternoon band runs roughly 3,975 to 4,100, with its edges near one standard deviation support at 3,974.9 and one standard deviation resistance at 4,101.9. Then the evening. Globex reopens at 6:00 PM ET on Tuesday after the 5:00 PM ET halt. For the full session the review sets a low-range case of 4,005 to 4,060, a mid-range case, the most likely, of 3,975 to 4,100 and a high-range case of 3,950 to 4,128.
The week's first-order event comes Wednesday. The FOMC statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, and the advance estimate of third-quarter GDP and the September personal income and outlays report for 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them.
One path is weighted. In the review's analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between Pivot S2 at 3,971.3 and Pivot R2 at 4,077.5, with a rebound toward the 4,056 to 4,064 band that then fails weighted slightly above a recovery. No measured frequency backs it. The alternative that would invalidate this reading is a reversal lower in the dollar and in yields, or a renewed haven bid on Gulf escalation. Either could carry the contract above Pivot R2 at 4,077.5 toward one standard deviation resistance at 4,101.9. In the review's reading, Monday's session settled near its high inside Friday's range and the 9-day relative strength at 32.35 sits low, so a further rebound before any extension lower is a live alternative.
Monday's high reached one short band to the tick, and its settle finished 17.6 points beneath the next.

The December gold contract settled at 4,038.4 on Monday, up 30.5 or 0.76 percent from Friday's settle of 4,007.9, after trading between 4,044.0 and 3,990.9, a 53.1 point daily range. The settle finished at 89.5 percent of the range, and the 53.1 point range was 0.78 times the published 14-day average daily range of 68.2 points. Monday's high sat 6.2 points beneath Friday's 4,050.2 high and Monday's low sat 1.8 points above Friday's 3,989.1 low, so the session traded entirely inside Friday's range. The 30.5 point gain was the largest one-day gain since the 62.2 point gain of 10/15 and ended a run of two consecutive lower settles.
Friday's 3,989.1 low remains the provider's published 52-week, 13-week and one-month low, and the settle sits 49.3 points above it. Over five sessions the contract is down 121.7 points from the 4,160.1 settle of 10/19. Silver's December contract rose 0.73 percent and the gold-to-silver ratio held at 74.32 against 74.29 on Friday.
The dollar index closed at 101.96 against 101.81 on Friday and the ten-year yield index closed at 4.99 percent against 4.98 percent, so gold rose on Monday with the dollar slightly firmer rather than weaker. December WTI fell 1.46 percent. Separately, the news feed carried talks in Tehran between Iran and senior Saudi, Pakistani and Turkish officials, and a currency commentary item carried at 1:45 PM ET described gold reclaiming 4,000 as oil eased ahead of the Fed decision. These items coincided with the session; no intraday series was kept for any path claim, so no move is attributed to any one of them.
The composite multi-indicator read published for Tuesday is "88% SELL", with strength "Strong" and direction "Strengthening". The published 14-day average true range is 77.4 points. The Primary Setup below is a short from the 4,056 to 4,064 band around Pivot R1 at 4,058.0, stopped at 4,082 above Pivot R2 at 4,077.5, with objectives at 4,038, 4,016 and an extended 3,994.
2. Price Action & Technical Structure
2.1 Intraday and Session Review
The Monday session opened at 4,012.2 at the Sunday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 4.3 points above Friday's settle, marked a daily high of 4,044.0 and a daily low of 3,990.9, and settled at 4,038.4 at 1:30 PM ET. This review makes no claim about the order in which the high and the low printed; the daily bar fixes the open, the extremes and the settle, and that is the evidence used here.
The settle sits 47.5 points above the low and 5.6 points beneath the high, in the upper part of the session's range.
Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET, so the open, high and low shown on the provider's overview page, 4,032.8, 4,032.9 and 4,028.9, belong to the new Tuesday session and not to Monday's completed session. The provider's previous close of 4,038.4 is Monday's settle.
Monday's completed-session extremes are the completed-session inputs behind the published pivot ladder rather than an independently read bar. Pivot R3 at 4,111.1 minus Pivot S3 at 3,951.8, divided by three, returns 53.1, and Pivot R2 at 4,077.5 minus Pivot S2 at 3,971.3, divided by two, returns the same 53.1. Three times the Pivot Point of 4,024.4 less the 4,038.4 settle gives a high plus low sum of 8,034.8, against 8,034.9 for the pair of 4,044.0 and 3,990.9, a difference within the published 0.1 rounding, and that pair reproduces all seven published rungs.
Independent corroboration: the provider's settlement row and the chart's completed daily bar for the continuous contract carry the same 4,012.2 open, 4,044.0 high, 3,990.9 low and 4,038.4 settle.
2.2 Daily Structure
Monday's 4,044.0 high sits 6.2 points beneath Friday's 4,050.2, and the 3,990.9 low sits 1.8 points above Friday's 3,989.1, so the session printed a lower high and a higher low, a session inside Friday's range. The settle above the 4,012.2 open leaves a body of 26.2 points, an upper shadow of 5.6 points above the settle and a lower shadow of 21.3 points beneath the open.
Settlements over the last ten sessions ran 4,177.3, 4,107.9, 4,170.1, 4,181.1, 4,160.1, 4,142.6, 4,150.0, 4,060.4 and 4,007.9 before Monday's 4,038.4, so Monday made the first higher settle after two consecutive lower settles. The provider's published one-month high is 4,315.8 from 09/28 and the 13-week high 4,755.0 from 08/25, and the 52-week high of 5,781.8 from 01/29 sits far above.
The December contract trades beneath the February contract, which settled at 4,072.2 in the provider's daily record, 33.8 points above December against 33.4 on Friday. No prior-quarter high or low was captured for this review, so the 13-week extremes serve as the available quarterly reference.
2.3 4-Hour and Swing Structure
Daily ranges for the last ten sessions ran 55.1, 98.5, 76.8, 52.9, 55.6, 44.8, 38.3, 127.5, 61.1 and 53.1, so Monday's range was the narrowest since the 38.3 range of 10/21. The settlement changes over the same ten sessions read minus 13.3, minus 69.4, plus 62.2, plus 11.0, minus 21.0, minus 17.5, plus 7.4, minus 89.6, minus 52.5 and plus 30.5.
The retracement grid published for Tuesday places the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 4,113.9, 75.5 points above the settle, and the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 4,152.5. The 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high sits at 4,191.0. No four-hour series was captured for this review, so swing structure here rests on daily bars only.
2.4 Moving Averages
The averages cited in this subsection were computed for this review from the provider's daily settlement series for the December contract, which holds 259 completed sessions through Monday; the partial Tuesday row of the reopened Globex session was dropped before counting, and each average was rounded once to the 0.1 tick. The 5-day average stands at 4,079.9, the 9-day at 4,113.2, the 20-day at 4,148.8, the 50-day at 4,333.9, the 100-day at 4,281.4 and the 200-day at 4,606.4.
The 4,038.4 settle sits 41.5 points beneath the 5-day average, 74.8 points beneath the 9-day, 110.4 points beneath the 20-day, 295.5 points beneath the 50-day, 243.0 points beneath the 100-day and 568.0 points beneath the 200-day. The 5-day average fell 24.3 points from Friday's 4,104.2, because the 10/19 settle of 4,160.1 left the window and was replaced by 4,038.4. The 20-day fell 6.5 points from 4,155.3, because the 09/28 settle of 4,168.4 left that window, and the 50-day fell 8.0 points from 4,341.9.
The 20-day average sits beneath the 50-day because the 30 older settlements in the 50-day window averaged higher, at 4,457.3, than the last 20. The 50-day sits above the 100-day because the 50 older settlements in the 100-day window averaged lower, at 4,228.9, and the 100-day sits beneath the 200-day because the 100 older settlements in the 200-day window averaged higher, at 4,931.5. The projection grid gives the prices at which each average would be crossed on Tuesday: 4,113.8 for the 9-day, 4,141.6 for the 18-day and 4,263.6 for the 40-day.
2.5 Oscillator and Trend Readings
The oscillator figures below are as published on the provider's technical page, read at about 6:23 PM ET on Monday after the 6:00 PM ET reopen, so the provider may already be blending the reopened session's quote into them; they are the provider's published readings, not computations made for this review. The 9-day relative strength reads 32.35, the 14-day relative strength 34.68 and the 20-day relative strength 37.31.
The 9-day raw stochastic reads 21.31 percent and the 14-day raw stochastic 19.47 percent, while the 14-day stochastic %K reads 12.79 percent and the 14-day stochastic %D 18.83 percent, so %K sits beneath %D in the lower part of the range.
The 9-day directional index ADX reads 35.96 with the 9-day +DI at 7.74 and the 9-day -DI at 32.39; the 14-day directional index ADX reads 26.31 with the 14-day +DI at 10.00 and the 14-day -DI at 28.57, so negative direction leads on both. The 9-day historic volatility reads 17.57 percent and the 14-day historic volatility 16.66 percent.
The composite multi-indicator read published for the Tuesday session is "88% SELL", with "Current Strength" shown as "Strong" and "Current Direction" as "Strengthening", and the composite trend indicator reads "SELL". The short-term group reads "Average: 100% SELL", the medium-term group "Average: 100% SELL" and the long-term group "Average: 33% SELL". The snapshot comparisons read "88% SELL" for yesterday, "48% SELL" for last week and "40% SELL" for last month.
2.6 Volatility and Expected Range
The published 14-day average true range stands at 77.4 points and the 14-day average daily range at 68.2 points; the 9-day average true range is 72.4 with a 9-day average daily range of 67.6, and the 20-day average true range is 82.3 with a 20-day average daily range of 69.5. These were read after the reopen and carry the same caveat as the oscillators. Monday's 53.1 point range was 0.78 times the 14-day average daily range.
Adding and subtracting the 14-day average true range of 77.4 points from the 4,038.4 settle frames Tuesday between 3,961.0 and 4,115.8. The published standard-deviation bands are built from five settlements and centre on the 4,038.4 settle: one deviation spans 3,974.9 to 4,101.9, two spans 3,948.6 to 4,128.2 and three spans 3,928.4 to 4,148.4. These bands describe settlement dispersion, not intraday reach.
3. Key Levels
3.1 Resistance
Above the 4,038.4 settle, the first overhead references are the 20 percent raw stochastic projection at 4,039.7, Monday's 4,044.0 high and Friday's 4,050.2 high, followed by Pivot R1 at 4,058.0, the 30 percent raw stochastic projection at 4,065.1 and the 14-day %K stochastic stall level at 4,067.4. Pivot R2 at 4,077.5 and one standard deviation resistance at 4,101.9 precede the 9-day average stall level at 4,107.9, Pivot R3 at 4,111.1 and the 9-day average crossing price at 4,113.8. Two standard deviations resistance at 4,128.2 and the 18-day average crossing price at 4,141.6 are the extended references.
3.2 Support
Beneath the settle sits the Pivot Point at 4,024.4, then Pivot S1 at 4,004.9 and the published target price at 3,998.4. Monday's 3,990.9 low and Friday's 3,989.1 low, which is the published 52-week low, form the next band, with the 3-10 day crossover stall level at 3,982.0, one standard deviation support at 3,974.9 and Pivot S2 at 3,971.3 beneath. The 14-day relative strength projection at 30 percent, 3,962.0, Pivot S3 at 3,951.8, two standard deviations support at 3,948.6 and three standard deviations support at 3,928.4 are the extended references.
4. Macro Drivers
4.1 Dollar and Real Yields
The dollar index closed at 101.96 in the provider's daily record, up 0.15 from Friday's 101.81, after trading between 102.06 and 101.58. The ten-year yield index closed at 4.99 percent against 4.98 percent and the thirty-year at 5.30 percent against 5.31 percent. Gold rose on Monday while the dollar firmed slightly and yields held, so the day's gain did not come with a softer dollar.
The provider's commentary attributed the dollar's gain to firmer US activity data and to weakness in Latin American currencies. A currency commentary item carried by the news feed at 2:30 PM ET described caution ahead of the Fed. This review treats those items as commentary, not as measured flows.
4.2 Fed and Monetary Policy
The Chicago Fed national activity index printed 0.07 against a forecast of minus 0.095 at 8:30 AM ET and the Dallas Fed manufacturing index printed 13.40 against 8.8 at 10:31 AM ET, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The US two-year note auction stopped at a 4.708 percent high yield against 4.787 percent previously, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, and the effective federal funds rate printed 3.88 percent for October 23 on the news feed.
Investment-bank commentary carried by the news feed expects the committee to skip a rate increase at the October meeting and deliver a second increase in December, and a rating agency note carried at 2:29 PM ET said broader US price pressures raise inflation persistence risk. The FOMC meeting begins on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the FOMC statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it.
4.3 Geopolitical Backdrop
The news feed carried at 9:10 AM ET the start of a meeting in Tehran between Iran and senior Saudi, Pakistani and Turkish officials, at 11:47 AM ET the agreement to continue those talks, and at 3:36 PM ET Iranian state television saying Iran is open to a shorter US proposal timeline if conditions are met. At 11:00 AM ET the Kremlin said the Russian president will meet Iran's president on Tuesday in Moscow, and at 2:43 PM ET the feed carried an Iranian warning to Israel that it would respond in kind to any threat.
4.4 China and Structural Demand (Central Bank Buying, PBOC, ETF Flows)
No central-bank purchase figure, Chinese import figure or exchange-traded fund holdings figure was captured for this review, so no structural-demand change is asserted. A currency commentary item carried by the news feed described a gradual bullish bias for the Chinese yuan against the dollar, which this review records without assessing any effect on gold demand.
4.5 Energy and Cross-Asset
December WTI settled at 101.76, down 1.46 percent, and Brent's December contract at 115.81, down 0.78 percent. Silver's December contract rose 0.392 to 54.341, up 0.73 percent, and copper's December contract rose 0.53 percent to 6.542. The gold-to-silver ratio stands at 74.32 against 74.29 on Friday.
The S&P 500 cash index closed at 7,676.77, up 0.70 percent, the Nasdaq-100 cash index rose 1.09 percent, and the volatility index fell to 18.39 from 19.45. In this review's interpretation, gold's rebound coincided with easier oil and a firmer risk appetite rather than with a haven bid; that reading is inference, not a measured flow.
4.6 Institutional Positioning (COT, ETF Holdings, Speculator Length)
The weekly positioning report dated October 20, shown on the provider's overview, puts managed-money long positions at 120,970 contracts and managed-money short positions at 16,764, for a net long of 104,206 against 107,089 a week earlier. Commercial long positions stand at 59,531 and commercial short positions at 295,113. The report predates the 10/22 and 10/23 declines and Monday's gain.
Open interest on the December contract is shown at 294,623 for Friday in the provider's record, and Monday's open interest was not yet reported; Monday's December volume was 119,019 contracts against 180,320 on Friday, so Monday's gain came on lower volume than Friday's decline.
5. Gold Fund Options Context (Proxy)
The gold fund's options console was read at about 6:18 PM ET on Monday, after the settle, with a page date of 2026-10-26; every figure in this section is that evening read. The fund proxy is used qualitatively only and is never translated into futures prices; the fund tracks bullion at a different scale with a fee drag and has no clean basis to the December contract.
The console shows the largest gamma concentration and the hedge level at the 380 strike, the call side ceiling at 450 and the put side support base at 350, against a previous close of 366.61 shown on the console. Modeled call gamma reads minus 382.6 million against put gamma of minus 500.94 million, so aggregate gamma is negative on both sides and larger on the put side. Call volume of 180.02 thousand against put volume of 108.58 thousand and a put-to-call open-interest ratio of 0.5 show calls outnumbering puts in the day's volume and in open interest.
One-month implied volatility reads 21.60 percent against realised volatility of 21.10 percent, the implied-volatility rank 14.50 percent and the skew rank 22.00 percent, with an options-implied move of 5 dollars. The console's live price field and its high and low volatility point fields are excluded.
In this review's interpretation, the 6:18 PM ET snapshot shows implied volatility close to realised volatility and a low implied-volatility rank, so at that read time the fund's options market was not pricing volatility far above what had recently been realised. Negative aggregate gamma at the same read is, in this review's interpretation, consistent with hedging that can extend moves rather than damp them, and the fund's previous close sits between the put side support base and the largest gamma concentration. Nothing in this section is used to set a futures level; every level in this review originates in published pivot arithmetic, published standard-deviation bands, published retracement and moving-average projections, settlement averages computed from the provider's daily record, or the completed-session extremes described in section 2.1.

6.2 London Session (3:00 AM to 8:00 AM ET Tuesday)
French consumer confidence is listed at 3:45 AM ET and eurozone money supply at 5:00 AM ET on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Bias neutral to lower, expected band roughly 3,995 to 4,065, with Pivot S1 at 4,004.9 the next pivot support beneath the Pivot Point at 4,024.4, Monday's 4,012.2 open and Friday's 4,007.9 settle sitting between them, and Pivot R1 at 4,058.0 the nearest pivot resistance, above the 4,039.7 projection and the 4,044.0 and 4,050.2 highs.
6.3 Morning Session (9:30 AM to 12:00 PM ET Tuesday, US Open)
The advance durable goods report is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and new home sales for 10:00 AM ET on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as the calendar lists it. Expected band roughly 3,985 to 4,080, with the 52-week low at 3,989.1 4.1 inside its bottom and Pivot R2 at 4,077.5 2.5 inside its top.
6.4 Afternoon Session (12:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET Tuesday)
The US five-year note auction is listed at 1:00 PM ET on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, and gold settles at 1:30 PM ET. Expected band roughly 3,975 to 4,100, with the outer edges near one standard deviation support at 3,974.9 and one standard deviation resistance at 4,101.9.
6.5 Night Session Forward (6:00 PM ET Tuesday)
Globex reopens at 6:00 PM ET on Tuesday after the 5:00 PM ET halt. The FOMC statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the advance estimate of third-quarter GDP and the September personal income and outlays report for 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them, so the forward window carries the week's first-order events.
6.6 Expected Range (Tuesday Full Session)
Low-range scenario: 4,005 to 4,060
Mid-range scenario (most likely): 3,975 to 4,100
High-range scenario: 3,950 to 4,128
6.7 Most Likely Path
In this review's analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between Pivot S2 at 3,971.3 and Pivot R2 at 4,077.5, with a rebound toward the 4,056 to 4,064 band that fails beneath that level weighted slightly above a recovery. The settle sits beneath every settlement average from the 5-day to the 200-day, negative direction leads on both directional systems, and the composite reads "88% SELL" with direction "Strengthening".
The alternative that would invalidate this reading is a reversal lower in the dollar and in yields, or a renewed haven bid on Gulf escalation, either of which could carry the contract above Pivot R2 at 4,077.5 toward one standard deviation resistance at 4,101.9. Monday's session traded inside Friday's range and settled near its high, and the 9-day relative strength at 32.35 sits low, so a further rebound before any extension lower is a live alternative.
7. Tuesday Economic Calendar
Monday's releases are complete. The Chicago Fed national activity index printed 0.07, the Dallas Fed manufacturing index printed 13.40 and the US two-year note auction stopped at a 4.708 percent high yield with a 2.590 bid-to-cover, all per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Gold settled at 1:30 PM ET.
On Tuesday, October 27, 2026 French consumer confidence is listed at 3:45 AM ET and eurozone money supply at 5:00 AM ET, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The advance durable goods report is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as the calendar lists it, with a news-feed consensus of 1.9 percent against minus 0.1 percent previously, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. New home sales are scheduled for 10:00 AM ET on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the consumer confidence survey is listed at 10:00 AM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The five-year note auction is listed at 1:00 PM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, and the FOMC meeting begins on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as the calendar lists it.
Later in the week, the FOMC statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the advance estimate of third-quarter GDP and the September personal income and outlays report for 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as the calendar lists them. In this review's judgment the first-order scheduled item for gold on Tuesday is the 8:30 AM ET durable goods report, with the week's first-order event the FOMC statement on Wednesday.
8. Primary Trade Setup
Direction: Short
Rationale: The settle sits beneath every settlement average from the 5-day to the 200-day, negative direction leads on the 9-day and 14-day directional systems, and the composite reads "88% SELL" with direction "Strengthening". A rebound into the 4,056 to 4,064 band around Pivot R1 at 4,058.0 and beneath the stochastic projections at 4,065.1 and 4,067.4 offers a short with a defined risk point above Pivot R2 at 4,077.5. Monday's session settled near its high inside Friday's range and the 9-day relative strength sits at 32.35, so the setup is an analyst judgment that rallies are sold while the trend measures stay negative, not a measured edge.
Entry Zone: 4,056 to 4,064
Stop Loss: 4,082 (above Pivot R2 at 4,077.5 and beneath one standard deviation resistance at 4,101.9)
Target 1 (T1): 4,038 (at Monday's 4,038.4 settle)
Target 2 (T2): 4,016 (beneath the Pivot Point at 4,024.4 and above Pivot S1 at 4,004.9)
Target 3 (T3, extended): 3,994 (beneath the published target price at 3,998.4 and above the 52-week low at 3,989.1)
Risk-to-Reward: Approximately 1:1 to T1, 1:2 to T2, 1:3 to T3
Invalidation: A settle above Pivot R2 at 4,077.5 negates the thesis. Short of that, the edge is removed by acceptance above the entry band rather than by a touch, defined as two consecutive 30-minute closes above 4,064.
Macro override: A sharp reversal lower in the dollar and yields, or a renewed haven bid on Gulf escalation, would undercut the short. In that scenario a move through the 4,082 stop invalidates the setup before the targets, and one standard deviation resistance at 4,101.9 becomes the reference, 19.9 points beyond the stop and inside one 14-day average true range of 77.4 points.
Sources and methodology
This outlook is built from our session review of the December gold contract, the December ’26 contract, prepared after Monday's close on October 26, 2026 for the Tuesday, October 27, 2026 session. Monday's completed extremes are the inputs behind the published pivot ladder for Tuesday: Pivot R3 at 4,111.1 less Pivot S3 at 3,951.8, divided by three, and Pivot R2 at 4,077.5 less Pivot S2 at 3,971.3, divided by two, both return 53.1, and three times the 4,024.4 Pivot Point less the settle gives 8,034.8, which the 4,044.0 high and the 3,990.9 low reproduce to the published rounding at 8,034.9. The provider's settlement row and the chart's completed Monday bar carry the same open, extremes and settle. Only those figures, the dated 2026-10-26 row of the provider's daily record and the review's statements are used to grade Monday's card. No intraday series was kept for Monday, so no statement here places the high or the low in time. The chart's reopened-session change implies a prior close of 4,038.3, within rounding of the provider's 4,038.4 previous close. Monday's session opened at the Sunday 6:00 PM ET reopen. Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Monday, so the open, high and low shown on the provider's overview page after the reopen, 4,032.8, 4,032.9 and 4,028.9, belong to the Tuesday session and are not used as Monday's range.
Friday's 2026-10-23 row has been revised since our Monday outlook: volume now reads 180,320 contracts against the preliminary 173,280, and open interest 294,623, which that outlook listed as not yet reported; Friday's prices are unchanged. Monday's open interest was not yet reported. The moving averages were computed from the provider's daily settlement series of 259 completed sessions through Monday, with the partial row of the reopened session dropped, and rounded once to the 0.1 tick; the oscillators and range measures are cited as published, read at about 6:23 PM ET on Monday after the reopen, and the composite strings are quoted verbatim. The gold fund is a proxy used qualitatively; its gamma figures are modeled, its live price field and its high and low volatility point fields were not used, and no fund level is translated into a futures price. The percent change for the dollar index, the gold-to-silver ratios, the managed-money net change, the volume change and the fund's implied move as a percent are computed from the stated figures. Scenario ranges are analyst judgment, and items marked unconfirmed come from the news-feed calendar or the news feed.
