At 3:00 PM ET on Friday a 30-minute bar opened that carried the December Nasdaq-100 contract down to 29,268.75. That was its lowest print since the 29,247.75 low of 09/17. The bar closed at 29,413.50. Nothing traded lower all session. The high of 30,225.00 had printed in the 1:00 AM ET bar, long before the cash open.
The decline came through the cash session. The 9:30 AM ET bar traded down to 29,802.25, the 11:00 AM ET bar closed at 29,682.25 and the 1:00 PM ET bar reached 29,426.00. The contract settled at 29,391.50, down 752.25 points, or 2.50 percent, from Thursday's 30,143.75. That was the largest loss since the 999.00 point drop of 06/23. Friday printed a higher high and a lower low against Thursday, an outside day. It made five lower settles in a row and the lowest settle since the 29,256.75 of 09/16. The settle finished at 12.8 percent of a 956.25 point range. The week cost 1,717.25 points.
December Nasdaq-100 futures settled at 29,391.50, down 752.25 points, after an outside day that finished at 12.8 percent of a 956.25 point range. The settle sits beneath every settlement average from the 5-day to the 100-day and 1,092.92 points above the 200-day. The primary setup is a short from 29,600 to 29,660, a band around the Pivot Point at 29,628.42, stop 29,800 above the 14-3 day momentum projection at 29,738.30, targets 29,460, 29,290 and an extended 29,120. The whole band sits 208.50 to 268.50 points above the settle. Target 1 sits above it too, by 68.50 points. Globex reopens at 6:00 PM ET Sunday after two days of headline exposure.
Friday's 30,225.00 high stopped 105.00 points under the short band
In Friday’s outlook we set a short from 30,330 to 30,390, stop 30,600. Its targets sat at 30,120, 29,880 and an extended 29,640. Friday's bar, from the review, opened at 30,089.00 at the Thursday 6:00 PM ET reopen, marked a high of 30,225.00 and a low of 29,268.75, and settled at 29,391.50. The band never traded. The high stopped 105.00 points beneath its 30,330 bottom and 165.00 beneath its 30,390 top. The stop sat 375.00 points above the high.
The 30-minute record places both extremes. The high printed in the 1:00 AM ET bar, which traded from 30,169.50 to 30,225.00 and closed at 30,173.00. The low printed in the 3:00 PM ET bar. Every target printed anyway. The first bar opened at 30,089.00, already under the 30,120 first target. The 9:30 AM ET bar was the first to trade beneath the 29,880 second target, and the 12:00 PM ET bar the first beneath the 29,640 extended target. The low finished 371.25 points under that extended target. Without an entry in the band, those prints score nothing. No fill and no result is asserted.
The card's other lines stayed out of play. Its invalidation was a settle above one standard deviation resistance at 30,580.67, and the settle finished 1,189.17 points beneath it. Its acceptance test needed two consecutive 30-minute closes above 30,390. The highest close all session was 30,202.50, in the 11:30 PM ET bar on Thursday. Its macro override named a soft import-price print that extends the decline in long-end yields, or a further recovery in chip shares. Import prices printed 1.1 percent against a 1.0 percent forecast, per the news-feed calendar. The ten-year yield index rose to 5.10 percent from 5.08 percent. The semiconductor index fell 3.83 percent.
Our ranges held overnight and broke in the cash session. The overnight bars, from 6:00 PM ET through the 2:30 AM ET bar, held 29,959.25 to 30,225.00, inside the 29,850 to 30,350 Globex band. The London bars held 30,051.00 to 30,201.00, inside 29,780 to 30,400. The morning band of 29,700 to 30,580 broke in the 11:00 AM ET bar, by 55.00 points. The afternoon band of 29,620 to 30,640 broke in the 12:00 PM ET bar, and the afternoon bars reached 29,268.75. All three scenario ranges gave way on the downside. The low-range case of 29,850 to 30,350 broke by 581.25 points, the most likely case of 29,700 to 30,580 by 431.25 and the high-range case of 29,660 to 30,620 by 391.25. The high stayed inside all three. Its most probable path, an analyst judgment, held the contract between one standard deviation support at 29,706.83 and one standard deviation resistance at 30,580.67, and the low broke the lower line by 438.08 points. Its alternative, a recovery through Pivot R2 at 30,561.92, never came. The high stopped 336.92 points beneath that pivot.
The Pivot Point at 29,628.42, the 29,600 to 29,660 band and the 29,703.95 put-base equivalent
The basis narrowed to 203.95 points, the 29,391.50 settle less the 29,187.55 cash close, from 208.16 on Thursday. Every December equivalent of a positioning level in this article uses it: 30,288.95 for the 30,085 modeled gamma-flip level, 30,203.95 for the 30,000 largest gamma concentration, 30,153.95 for the 29,950 modeled volatility threshold and 29,703.95 for the 29,500 put-side base. The conversions are the review's own. The desk note does not make them.
Resistance starts 157.75 points up. The 50 percent retracement of the 13-week range sits there, at 29,549.25, with Thursday's 29,622.50 low 73.25 above it. Then the band. The Pivot Point at 29,628.42 sits 28.42 points above its 29,600 bottom and 31.58 beneath its 29,660 top. The 40-day average stall level at 29,678.75 sits 18.75 above the top, and the 29,703.95 put-base equivalent 43.95 above it. The 14-3 day momentum projection at 29,738.30 follows. Then the stop. It sits at 29,800, 61.70 points above that projection. Beyond it come the upper momentum projection at 29,973.07, Pivot R1 at 29,988.08, one standard deviation resistance at 29,995.92, the 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week high at 30,037.12 and the 100-day average at 30,052.25. Then comes a crowd. Friday's 30,089.00 open, Thursday's 30,143.75 settle, the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 30,152.61 and the 30,153.95 threshold equivalent form the next grouping. The 50-day average at 30,182.48, Thursday's 30,196.75 high, the 30,203.95 concentration equivalent, the 40-day crossing price at 30,221.10, Friday's 30,225.00 high and two standard deviations resistance at 30,246.28 sit just above. The list keeps climbing. The 5-day average at 30,281.55 and the 30,288.95 flip equivalent come next, then three standard deviations resistance at 30,438.39 and Pivot R2 at 30,584.67. Higher still sit the 9-day crossing price at 30,611.03, the 9-day average at 30,707.94, the 18-day crossing price at 30,767.40, the 20-day average at 30,781.19, Wednesday's 30,891.50 high, Tuesday's 30,906.00 high and Pivot R3 at 30,944.33. This week's 31,289.25 high and the 31,616.50 52-week high cap the list.
Support starts 122.75 points down, at Friday's 29,268.75 low, with the one-month low at 29,247.75 just 21.00 beneath it. The 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week low at 29,061.38, Pivot S1 at 29,031.83 and the published target price at 29,013.33 span 48.05 points. The 14-day relative strength projection at 30 percent sits at 28,912.58, and one standard deviation support at 28,787.08. A deeper grouping follows. Pivot S2 at 28,672.17, two standard deviations support at 28,536.72, the 3-10 day crossover stall level at 28,529.75 and the 61.8 percent retracement from the 52-week low at 28,488.88 sit within 183.29 points of each other. Three standard deviations support at 28,344.61, the 200-day average at 28,298.58 and Pivot S3 at 28,075.58 lie beyond, with the 27,482.00 13-week low far below.
Every average from the 5-day to the 100-day sits overhead. The settle is 890.05 points beneath the 5-day, 1,316.44 beneath the 9-day, 1,389.69 beneath the 20-day, 790.98 beneath the 50-day and 660.75 beneath the 100-day. It is 1,092.92 above the 200-day. The 5-day fell 343.45 points from 30,625.00 as the 10/09 settle of 31,108.75 left the window. The 20-day fell 26.29 from 30,807.48 as the 09/18 settle of 29,917.25 dropped out, and the 50-day fell 7.93 from 30,190.41. Older settlements sit lower. The 30 older ones in the 50-day window averaged 29,783.34, and the 50 older ones in the 100-day window 29,922.02. Monday's crossing prices are 30,611.03 for the 9-day, 30,767.40 for the 18-day and 30,221.10 for the 40-day.
Momentum sank. Relative strength reads 24.61 on the 9-day, 34.26 on the 14-day and 40.26 on the 20-day. All three raw stochastics read 5.23 percent, and the 14-day %K at 12.73 percent sits beneath %D at 21.10 percent. Sellers lead by a wide margin. On the 9-day, negative direction at 37.67 tops positive at 10.29 by 27.38, with the ADX at 29.89; on the 14-day, 32.28 tops 14.27 by 18.01, with the ADX at 19.64. Historic volatility reads 14.76 percent and 15.84 percent. These readings are as published for the Friday session. The Globex session had closed when they were captured, so the page reflects the settle.
The composite multi-indicator read jumped to 40 percent sell from 8 percent sell, strength good and direction average. A week ago it read 80 percent buy. A month ago, hold. The short-horizon group averages 60 percent sell, the medium 25 percent sell and the long hold, and the trend indicator reads sell.
The bar's shape tells the story. Its upper shadow measures 136.00 points above the 30,089.00 open, and its lower shadow 122.75 beneath the settle. The 14-day average true range stands at 512.12 points, 1.74 percent of the settle, and the 14-day average daily range at 505.84; the 9-day figures are 539.19 and 530.72 and the 20-day figures 504.65 and 511.50. One average true range either side of the settle spans 28,879.38 to 29,903.62. The deviation bands, built from five settlements, run 28,787.08 to 29,995.92, 28,536.72 to 30,246.28 and 28,344.61 to 30,438.39, and describe settlement dispersion only. A weekend gap can open outside any of them. Eight sessions of daily ranges read 378.00, 674.00, 313.50, 445.00, 314.75, 813.50, 574.25 and 956.25 points, and Friday's was the widest since the 958.75 of 09/21. Last week spanned 31,616.50 to 30,792.00. This week spanned 31,289.25 to 29,268.75, and the settle sits 1,717.25 points, or 5.52 percent, beneath last Friday's 31,108.75. The 52-week high sits 2,225.00 above the settle and the 29,247.75 one-month low 143.75 beneath it. No prior-quarter extremes were captured, so the 13-week high of 31,616.50 and low of 27,482.00 stand in.
Artificial-intelligence financing, a 3.83 percent chip slide and crude at 101.41
Artificial-intelligence financing ran through the headlines. The feed's US market wrap described the technology selloff deepening as concerns about financing for artificial intelligence weighed on stocks. The desk note said the megacapitalisation technology fund fell about 2 percent ahead of earnings in the coming weeks. That account is the note's. No causal link to the contract is asserted here.
Company items arrived all day. At 5:09 AM ET the feed carried a large software maker's statement disagreeing with a business software designation, and at 7:31 AM ET a press report on an artificial-intelligence model developer's credit rating. The evening brought two more. After the close, at 4:33 PM ET, the feed carried the leading graphics-chip maker's chief executive saying the turmoil is going to pass. At 4:44 PM ET it carried a statement from the model developer comparing its revenue per employee with a social-media group and a search-engine group. Earnings come later. A streaming company reports at 4:01 PM ET on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and an electric-vehicle maker after the close on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, as the calendar lists it. The social-media group's report on October 21 is listed by the positioning note, unconfirmed. These are statements and schedules carried by the sources rather than measured flows.
Chips fell harder. The semiconductor index closed at 11,137.29, down 3.83 percent from Thursday's 11,581.22. It had opened at 11,345.01 and traded as low as 11,128.08, so it closed only 9.21 points above its low. The desk note said the semiconductor sector fund fell about 4 percent, extending its longest losing streak since 2006, a claim carried by the note rather than computed here. At 9:46 AM ET the feed carried preliminary earnings figures from a Chinese memory maker.
Yields edged up. The ten-year yield index traded between 5.07 and 5.13 percent and closed at 5.10 percent against 5.08 percent on Thursday, and the thirty-year index closed at 5.44 percent against 5.42 percent. Provider commentary said the priced chance of a rate increase this month fell to 13 percent from 27 percent after the Federal Reserve Chair gave no guidance in a speech at the annual International Monetary Fund meeting. At 11:38 AM ET the feed carried investment-bank commentary expecting increases in December and January. No inflation-protected yield series was captured. Real yields are not measured here.
The data came before the cash open. September import prices printed at 8:30 AM ET and industrial production at 9:15 AM ET, both as the calendar lists them, with the news-feed calendar showing 1.1 percent against 1.0 percent and 0.7 percent against 0.4 percent. The 8:30 AM ET bar traded between 30,047.75 and 30,126.25 and closed at 30,066.75, and the 9:00 AM ET bar closed at 30,024.50. The record sets the prints and the bars side by side. It assigns no cause. The 9:30 AM ET bar, which contains the cash open, traded between 29,802.25 and 30,045.75 and closed at 29,837.25. The 10:00 AM ET bar traded down to 29,786.75. The 10:30 AM ET bar rebounded to 29,947.00 before closing at 29,862.00. Then the slide resumed, with the 12:30 PM ET bar down to 29,583.00 and the 2:30 PM ET bar down to 29,314.75.
Gulf headlines ran too. The news feed carried at 2:09 PM ET to 2:11 PM ET US statements on vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and on the naval blockade of Iran, and after the close, at 4:44 PM ET, the President's remark that Iran will be over very soon. Crude climbed. November WTI crude settled at 101.41, up 3.51 percent, and the desk note said Brent reached 110 dollars for the first time since May. These are statements carried by the sources rather than confirmed events, and no causal link to the index is asserted.
The Nasdaq-100 lagged. Its cash index closed at 29,187.55, down 2.50 percent, while the S&P 500 cash index fell 1.09 percent to 7,659.44 and the Dow industrials 0.34 percent to 52,002.41. The NYSE composite rose 0.09 percent to 24,088.62. The volatility index closed at 19.99 against 16.46 after trading as high as 22.31. The Nasdaq-100 volatility index rose to 27.13 from 22.89, and the volatility-of-volatility index to 109.91 from 92.57 after a 121.17 high. The dollar index closed at 101.84, down 0.16, and gold rose 0.26 percent.
The cash close sits beneath every model line. The desk note read is the 5:15 PM ET edition for Friday, read at 6:17 PM ET, and its reference column carries Thursday's closes: NDX 29,935 matches Thursday's 29,935.59 cash close, and QQQ 728 matches the console's 728.04 previous-close field. The note runs a day behind. Against Friday's 29,187.55 close, the index sits 312.45 points beneath the 29,500 primary put-side support base, 762.45 beneath the 29,950 modeled volatility threshold and 897.45 beneath the 30,085 modeled gamma-flip level. The largest gamma concentration sits at 30,000 and the primary call-side ceiling at 30,100. The index model's gamma tilt reads 0.902 and its gamma notional minus 5.165 million dollars, both model outputs. The note lists 30,000, 29,500, 30,300 and 31,000 as key index strikes.
On the QQQ proxy the call-side ceiling sits at 740, the largest concentration at 730, the flip level at 732, the threshold at 730 and the put-side base at 700. The fund's gamma tilt reads 0.694 and its gamma notional minus 903.187 million dollars. Its console, read at about 6:19 PM ET and marked as updated 2026-10-16, shows a current-price field of 710.14 and a change of minus 2.46 percent. It shows call gamma of minus 580.4 million against put gamma of minus 1.73 billion, one-month implied volatility of 20.14 percent against realised volatility of 16.01 percent, an implied-volatility rank of 35.66 percent and a put-to-call open-interest ratio of 1.39. Two fields are dropped. Its high and low volatility point fields read 743 and 890, and both are excluded. In the review's interpretation, drawn from the index model and the QQQ fund proxy, a cash close beneath the put-side base and the flip level with negative gamma notional on both the index and the fund describes positioning that is less likely to dampen moves. That is a damping read. It carries no direction. The flip level and threshold are model outputs.
The desk note's narrative went further. It said the Nasdaq-100 slid on monthly options expiration day, pressured by the selloff in artificial-intelligence shares and elevated oil prices. It reported a large trade in QQQ October 30 puts about ten minutes before the close, which it described as downside hedging ahead of next week's earnings. That description is the note's. The console reports volume and modeled gamma without trade side, so no directional read is drawn from it here. The volatility index expiration on October 21 is listed by the positioning note, unconfirmed.
Activity eased. Volume reached 797,480 contracts against Thursday's 816,479, a figure revised from the 803,966 carried in Friday's outlook. Open interest read 274,603 on Thursday's 2026-10-15 row, down from 281,712 on the 2026-10-14 row, and Friday's figure is not yet reported. The news feed listed a Nasdaq positioning summary for the week of October 13 at 3:39 PM ET, but no managed-money or commercial figure was read back, so none is asserted.
The trade map for Monday
The primary setup is a short from 29,600 to 29,660. Friday printed an outside day that settled at 12.8 percent of its range for a fifth consecutive lower settle, and the settle sits beneath every average from the 5-day to the 100-day. Negative direction leads on both windows. The band sits around the Pivot Point at 29,628.42, with its top 43.95 points beneath the 29,703.95 put-base equivalent. That line is a positioning reference. It casts no vote on direction. The stop at 29,800 sits above it and above the 14-3 day momentum projection at 29,738.30. All of the band sits above the settle. Reaching it takes a climb of at least 208.50 points off the settle, so the thesis is that a rally into the Pivot Point is sold while the technology selloff persists. The targets sit at 29,460, 68.50 above Friday's settle, 29,290, 21.25 above Friday's low, and an extended 29,120, 58.62 above the 38.2 percent retracement at 29,061.38. Caveats remain. The 9-day relative strength reads 24.61 and two weekend days of headlines separate the settle from the reopen, so the review calls the setup an analyst judgment with no measured edge behind it.
Now the arithmetic. From the 29,630 midpoint the risk to the stop is 170 points, 33.2 percent of the 14-day average true range of 512.12. The targets sit 170, 340 and 510 points beneath the midpoint. Exact multiples. The first target, 29,460, sits 140.00 points beneath the band bottom and 68.50 above the settle, between the two. The settle sits 208.50 points beneath the band bottom and 268.50 beneath its top. The stop sits 408.50 points above the settle and 188.08 beneath Pivot R1.
The scenario ranges are analyst judgment. The low-range case runs 29,050 to 29,700, the most likely 28,880 to 29,900 and the high-range case 28,540 to 30,250. Then the sessions. Globex reopens at 6:00 PM ET on Sunday, October 18, and the review expects roughly 29,050 to 29,700 through the night session, with a neutral to lower bias beneath the Pivot Point at 29,628.42. A gap above the Pivot Point opens the 29,703.95 conversion and Pivot R1 at 29,988.08. A gap beneath Friday's 29,268.75 low opens the 38.2 percent retracement at 29,061.38 and Pivot S1 at 29,031.83. London follows at 29,000 to 29,750, also neutral to lower, with the 29,600 to 29,660 band the first meaningful resistance and Friday's low the first meaningful support. The morning band runs 28,880 to 29,900, with Pivot R1 at 29,988.08 above its top and one standard deviation support at 28,787.08 beneath its bottom. The afternoon band is the same. Friday's 4:30 PM ET bar closed at 29,391.25; that post-settlement quote is not used as the settlement anywhere here.
Monday's calendar starts Sunday evening. China's third-quarter growth, industrial output and retail sales figures are listed at 10:00 PM ET on Sunday, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. A European Central Bank board member is listed at 1:50 AM ET Monday, Canadian consumer prices at 8:30 AM ET and the homebuilder sentiment index at 10:00 AM ET, all per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The cash open is at 9:30 AM ET and equity index futures settle at 4:00 PM ET. No mega-capitalisation earnings entry is listed for Monday. The Tuesday session opens at 6:00 PM ET Monday. Housing starts print at 8:30 AM ET on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, as the calendar lists them, with the streaming company at 4:01 PM ET that day. An electric-vehicle maker, an information-technology group and an analog chip maker report after the close on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, as the calendar lists them. The next policy statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it.
One path is weighted. In the review's analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between one standard deviation support at 28,787.08 and one standard deviation resistance at 29,995.92. In that judgment a rally toward the 29,600 to 29,660 band that fails beneath the 29,703.95 conversion is weighted above a sustained recovery. No measured frequency backs it. The alternative is a relief rally after monthly options expiration, a scenario the desk note's October 15 update raised for early next week after a sharp decline into Friday. It would carry the contract through Pivot R1 at 29,988.08 toward Thursday's 30,143.75 settle. The 9-day relative strength at 24.61 and raw stochastics at 5.23 percent leave the contract stretched to the downside, which keeps that alternative live. That stretch is the counterweight. In the review's judgment the first-order influences on Monday are the weekend's artificial-intelligence and Gulf headlines, priced at the 6:00 PM ET Sunday reopen, with the streaming company at 4:01 PM ET on Tuesday the first large earnings test.
Friday's low printed in the 3:00 PM ET bar, and Monday's short band sits 208.50 points above the settle that followed.

1. Executive Summary
The December Nasdaq-100 contract settled at 29,391.50 on Friday, down 752.25 or 2.50 percent from Thursday's settle of 30,143.75, after trading between 30,225.00 and 29,268.75, a 956.25 point daily range. The settle finished at 12.8 percent of the range, and the 956.25 point range was 1.89 times the published 14-day average daily range of 505.84 points. Friday printed a higher high and a lower low against Thursday, an outside day, and the settle was the fifth consecutive lower settle.
The 29,391.50 settle was the lowest since the 29,256.75 settle of 09/16, and the 29,268.75 low the lowest since the 29,247.75 low of 09/17. The 752.25 point loss was the largest since the 999.00 point loss of 06/23, and the 956.25 point range the widest since the 958.75 point range of 09/21. Over the week the contract fell 1,717.25 points from last Friday's 31,108.75 settle, matching the provider's five-day change of minus 1,717.25, or minus 5.52 percent.
The decline came through the cash session. In the 30-minute series the overnight high of 30,225.00 printed in the 1:00 AM ET bar, the 9:30 AM ET bar traded down to 29,802.25 and closed at 29,837.25, the 11:00 AM ET bar closed at 29,682.25, the 1:00 PM ET bar traded down to 29,426.00 and the 3:00 PM ET bar marked the 29,268.75 low before closing at 29,413.50.
The Nasdaq-100 cash index closed at 29,187.55, down 2.50 percent, and the semiconductor index fell 3.83 percent to 11,137.29, closing 9.21 points above its low. The S&P 500 cash index fell 1.09 percent while the Dow industrials fell 0.34 percent. The volatility index closed at 19.99 against 16.46 and the Nasdaq-100 volatility index at 27.13 against 22.89. The ten-year yield index closed at 5.10 percent against 5.08 percent.
Globex reopens at 6:00 PM ET on Sunday, so two days of headline exposure separate Friday's settle from the next print. The published 14-day average true range of 512.12 points is shown as 1.74 percent on the provider's page. The Primary Setup below is a short from the 29,600 to 29,660 band around the Pivot Point at 29,628.42, stopped at 29,800 above the 14-3 day momentum projection at 29,738.30, with objectives at 29,460, 29,290 and an extended 29,120.
2. Price Action & Technical Structure
2.1 Intraday and Session Review
The Friday session opened at 30,089.00 at the Thursday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 54.75 beneath Thursday's settle, marked a daily high of 30,225.00 and a daily low of 29,268.75, and settled at 29,391.50 at 4:00 PM ET. The 30-minute series for the session places the session high of 30,225.00 in the 1:00 AM ET bar and the session low of 29,268.75 in the 3:00 PM ET bar.
The 11:30 PM ET bar on Thursday traded up to 30,211.75 and closed at 30,202.50. The 8:30 AM ET bar, which contains the import price release, traded between 30,047.75 and 30,126.25 and closed at 30,066.75, and the 9:00 AM ET bar closed at 30,024.50. The 9:30 AM ET bar, which contains the cash open, traded between 29,802.25 and 30,045.75 and closed at 29,837.25, the 10:00 AM ET bar traded down to 29,786.75, and the 10:30 AM ET bar rebounded to 29,947.00 before closing at 29,862.00.
The 11:00 AM ET bar traded down to 29,645.00 and closed at 29,682.25, the 12:30 PM ET bar traded down to 29,583.00, and the 1:00 PM ET bar traded between 29,426.00 and 29,617.00 and closed at 29,491.50. The 2:30 PM ET bar traded down to 29,314.75, the 3:00 PM ET bar marked the 29,268.75 low and closed at 29,413.50, and the 4:00 PM ET bar closed at 29,378.50. The 4:30 PM ET bar closed at 29,391.25; that post-settlement quote is not used as the settlement anywhere in this review.
Friday's Globex session ends at 5:00 PM ET and does not reopen until 6:00 PM ET on Sunday, so the provider's displayed open, high and low of 30,089.00, 30,225.00 and 29,268.75 belong to the completed Friday session. The session extremes are also the completed-session inputs behind the published pivot ladder for Monday, back-solved from the outer pivot pairs and verified against every rung. Pivot R3 at 30,944.33 minus Pivot S3 at 28,075.58, divided by three, returns 956.25, and Pivot R2 at 30,584.67 minus Pivot S2 at 28,672.17, divided by two, returns the same 956.25. Three times the Pivot Point of 29,628.42 less the 29,391.50 settle gives a high plus low sum of 59,493.76, which the pair of 30,225.00 and 29,268.75 reproduces to the published rounding at 59,493.75, and that pair reproduces all seven published rungs.
Independent corroboration: the provider's settlement row, the provider's overview, the chart's completed Friday daily bar and the extremes of the 30-minute series carry the same 30,225.00 high and 29,268.75 low.
2.2 Daily Structure
Friday printed an outside day against Thursday: the 30,225.00 high sits 28.25 above Thursday's 30,196.75, and the 29,268.75 low sits 353.75 beneath Thursday's 29,622.50. The settle at 12.8 percent of the range leaves an upper shadow of 136.00 above the 30,089.00 open and a lower shadow of 122.75 beneath the settle.
The sequence of session highs over the last six sessions reads 31,266.50, 31,289.25, 30,906.00, 30,891.50, 30,196.75 and 30,225.00, and the sequence of session lows reads 30,953.00, 30,844.25, 30,591.25, 30,078.00, 29,622.50 and 29,268.75. Settlements over the same six sessions ran 31,108.75, 30,898.25, 30,791.50, 30,182.75, 30,143.75 and 29,391.50.
Last week, October 5 through October 9, spanned 31,616.50 to 30,792.00, and this week spanned 31,289.25 to 29,268.75. The one-month low of 29,247.75 sits 143.75 beneath the settle, and the one-month, 13-week and 52-week high of 31,616.50 sits 2,225.00 above it. The 13-week low of 27,482.00 frames the lower side.
No prior-quarter high or low was captured, so the 13-week extremes serve as the available quarterly reference: 31,616.50 above and 27,482.00 beneath.
2.3 4-Hour and Swing Structure
Daily ranges for the last eight sessions ran 378.00, 674.00, 313.50, 445.00, 314.75, 813.50, 574.25 and 956.25. The settlement changes over the same eight sessions read minus 81.00, minus 432.75, plus 139.25, minus 210.50, minus 106.75, minus 608.75, minus 39.00 and minus 752.25.
The retracement grid published for Monday places the 50 percent retracement of the 13-week range at 29,549.25, 157.75 above the settle, and the 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week low at 29,061.38, 330.12 beneath it. Above, the 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week high sits at 30,037.12 and the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 30,152.61. No four-hour series was captured, so swing structure here rests on daily bars and the preserved 30-minute session.
2.4 Moving Averages
The averages cited in this subsection were computed from the provider's daily settlement series for the December contract, which holds 260 completed sessions through Friday. The 5-day average stands at 30,281.55, the 9-day at 30,707.94, the 20-day at 30,781.19, the 50-day at 30,182.48, the 100-day at 30,052.25 and the 200-day at 28,298.58.
The 29,391.50 settle sits 890.05 points beneath the 5-day average, 1,316.44 beneath the 9-day, 1,389.69 beneath the 20-day, 790.98 beneath the 50-day and 660.75 beneath the 100-day, and 1,092.92 above the 200-day. The 5-day average fell 343.45 from Thursday's 30,625.00, because the 10/09 settle of 31,108.75 left the window and was replaced by 29,391.50. The 20-day fell 26.29 from 30,807.48, because the 09/18 settle of 29,917.25 left that window, and the 50-day fell 7.93 from 30,190.41.
The 20-day average sits above the 50-day because the last 20 settlements averaged 30,781.19 against 30,182.48 for the full 50, which means the 30 older settlements in the 50-day window averaged lower, at 29,783.34. The 50-day sits above the 100-day because the 50 older settlements in the 100-day window averaged lower, at 29,922.02. The projection grid gives the prices at which each average would be crossed on Monday: 30,611.03 for the 9-day, 30,767.40 for the 18-day and 30,221.10 for the 40-day.
2.5 Oscillator and Trend Readings
The oscillator figures below are as published on the provider's technical page dated for the Friday session. The Friday Globex session had closed and no new session had opened at the time of capture, so the page reflects the settle; they remain the provider's published readings and were not computed here. The 9-day relative strength reads 24.61, the 14-day relative strength 34.26 and the 20-day relative strength 40.26.
The 9-day, 14-day and 20-day raw stochastics all read 5.23 percent, while the 14-day stochastic %K reads 12.73 percent and the 14-day stochastic %D 21.10 percent, so %K sits beneath %D near the bottom of the range.
The 9-day directional index ADX reads 29.89 with the 9-day +DI at 10.29 and the 9-day -DI at 37.67; the 14-day directional index ADX reads 19.64 with the 14-day +DI at 14.27 and the 14-day -DI at 32.28, so negative direction leads on both. The 9-day historic volatility reads 14.76 percent and the 14-day historic volatility 15.84 percent.
The composite multi-indicator read published for the Friday session is 40 percent sell, against 8 percent sell in the prior session's snapshot, with signal strength described as good and direction as average. The snapshot history reads 80 percent buy a week ago and hold a month ago. The short-horizon group averages 60 percent sell, the medium-horizon group 25 percent sell and the long-horizon group hold, and the composite trend indicator reads sell.
2.6 Volatility and Expected Range
The published 14-day average true range stands at 512.12 points and the 14-day average daily range at 505.84 points; the 9-day average true range is 539.19 with a 9-day average daily range of 530.72, and the 20-day average true range is 504.65 with a 20-day average daily range of 511.50. Friday's 956.25 point range was 1.89 times the 14-day average daily range.
Adding and subtracting the 14-day average true range of 512.12 points from the 29,391.50 settle frames Monday between 28,879.38 and 29,903.62. The published standard-deviation bands are built from five settlements: one deviation spans 28,787.08 to 29,995.92, two spans 28,536.72 to 30,246.28 and three spans 28,344.61 to 30,438.39. These bands describe settlement dispersion, not intraday reach, and a weekend gap can open outside any of them.
3. Key Levels
3.1 Resistance
Above the 29,391.50 settle, the 50 percent retracement of the 13-week range at 29,549.25 is the first reference, followed by the Pivot Point at 29,628.42 and the 40-day average stall level at 29,678.75. The 14-3 day momentum projection levels at 29,738.30 and 29,973.07, Pivot R1 at 29,988.08 and one standard deviation resistance at 29,995.92 come next, followed by the 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week high at 30,037.12. Thursday's 30,143.75 settle, the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week low at 30,152.61 and Friday's 30,225.00 high form the extended band, with two standard deviations resistance at 30,246.28 and Pivot R2 at 30,584.67 beyond.
3.2 Support
Beneath the settle sits Friday's 29,268.75 low, with the one-month low at 29,247.75 next and the 38.2 percent retracement from the 13-week low at 29,061.38 beneath it. Pivot S1 at 29,031.83 and the published target price at 29,013.33 follow, then the 14-day relative strength projection at 30 percent at 28,912.58 and one standard deviation support at 28,787.08. Pivot S2 at 28,672.17, two standard deviations support at 28,536.72 and the 3-10 day crossover stall level at 28,529.75 form the deeper band, with the 61.8 percent retracement from the 52-week low at 28,488.88 and the 200-day settlement average at 28,298.58 the extended references.
4. Macro Drivers
4.1 Mag7 Earnings and AI Capex Cycle
The feed's US market wrap described the technology selloff deepening as concerns about financing for artificial intelligence weighed on stocks, and the desk note said the megacapitalisation technology fund fell about 2 percent ahead of earnings in the coming weeks. After the close, at 4:33 PM ET, the feed carried the leading graphics-chip maker's chief executive saying the turmoil is going to pass, and at 4:44 PM ET a statement from an artificial-intelligence model developer comparing its revenue per employee with a social-media group and a search-engine group. At 7:31 AM ET the feed carried a press report on the model developer's credit rating, and at 5:09 AM ET a large software maker's statement disagreeing with a business software designation.
A streaming company reports at 4:01 PM ET on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and an electric-vehicle maker reports after the close on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, as the calendar lists it. A social-media group's report on October 21 is listed by the positioning note, unconfirmed. These are statements and schedules carried by the sources rather than measured flows.
4.2 Semiconductor Cycle and Tech Sector Rotation
The semiconductor index closed at 11,137.29, down 3.83 percent from Thursday's 11,581.22, after opening at 11,345.01 and trading as low as 11,128.08, so it closed 9.21 points above its low. The desk note said the semiconductor sector fund fell about 4 percent, extending its longest losing streak since 2006, a claim carried by the note rather than computed here. At 9:46 AM ET the feed carried preliminary earnings figures from a Chinese memory maker.
4.3 Fed Policy and Real Yields (Duration Sensitivity)
The ten-year yield index traded between 5.07 and 5.13 percent and closed at 5.10 percent against 5.08 percent on Thursday, and the thirty-year index closed at 5.44 percent against 5.42 percent. Provider commentary said the priced chance of a rate increase this month fell to 13 percent from 27 percent after the Federal Reserve Chair gave no guidance in a speech at the annual International Monetary Fund meeting, and at 11:38 AM ET the feed carried investment-bank commentary expecting increases in December and January. No inflation-protected yield series was captured, so real yields are not measured here.
September import prices printed at 8:30 AM ET and industrial production at 9:15 AM ET, both releases as the calendar lists them; the news-feed calendar showed 1.1 percent against 1.0 percent and 0.7 percent against 0.4 percent. The next policy statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it.
4.4 Geopolitical Backdrop
The news feed carried at 2:09 PM ET to 2:11 PM ET US statements on vessel traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and on the naval blockade of Iran, and after the close, at 4:44 PM ET, the President's remark that Iran will be over very soon. November WTI crude settled at 101.41, up 3.51 percent, and the desk note said Brent reached 110 dollars for the first time since May. These are statements carried by the sources rather than confirmed events, and no causal link to the index is asserted.
4.5 Cross-Asset and Volatility
The S&P 500 cash index closed at 7,659.44, down 1.09 percent, the Dow industrials at 52,002.41, down 0.34 percent, and the NYSE composite at 24,088.62, up 0.09 percent, so the Nasdaq-100 cash index, down 2.50 percent, lagged the broader market. The volatility index closed at 19.99 against 16.46 after trading as high as 22.31, the Nasdaq-100 volatility index at 27.13 against 22.89, and the volatility-of-volatility index at 109.91 against 92.57 after trading as high as 121.17. The dollar index closed at 101.84, down 0.16, and gold rose 0.26 percent.
4.6 Institutional Positioning
The news feed listed a Nasdaq positioning summary for the week of October 13 at 3:39 PM ET, but no managed-money or commercial figure was read back, so none is asserted. Open interest on the December contract is shown at 274,603 on Thursday's 2026-10-15 row, down from 281,712 on Wednesday's 2026-10-14 row; Friday's open interest had not been reported at the time of capture. Friday's volume was 797,480 contracts against Thursday's 816,479. The measured closing basis was 203.95 points, the December settlement of 29,391.50 less the 29,187.55 cash close from the same provider's daily record, against 208.16 on Thursday.
5. QQQ Options Flow Context (Proxy)
This review uses the QQQ fund as the proxy for the positioning data available, alongside the index levels published in the same desk note. The desk note read for this section is the 5:15 PM ET edition for Friday, read at 6:17 PM ET. Its reference prices are the prior session's closes, not Friday's: NDX 29,935 matches Thursday's 29,935.59 cash close and QQQ 728 matches the console's 728.04 previous-close field. Every index level below is read against Friday's 29,187.55 cash close.
On the Nasdaq-100 index the modeled volatility threshold sits at NDX 29,950, the modeled gamma-flip level at NDX 30,085, the largest gamma concentration at NDX 30,000, the primary call side ceiling at NDX 30,100 and the primary put side support base at NDX 29,500. The cash close sits 312.45 points beneath the put side support base, 762.45 points beneath the threshold and 897.45 points beneath the flip level. Gamma tilt reads 0.902 and gamma notional minus 5.165 million dollars, both model outputs. The note's key index strikes are 30,000, 29,500, 30,300 and 31,000.
On the QQQ proxy the primary call side ceiling sits at 740, the largest gamma concentration at 730, the modeled gamma-flip level at 732, the modeled volatility threshold at 730 and the primary put side support base at 700. The fund's gamma tilt reads 0.694 and gamma notional minus 903.187 million dollars, proxy model outputs. The QQQ console, read at about 6:19 PM ET and marked as updated 2026-10-16, shows a current-price field of 710.14, a change of minus 2.46 percent, call gamma of minus 580.4 million against put gamma of minus 1.73 billion, one-month implied volatility of 20.14 percent against realised volatility of 16.01 percent, an implied-volatility rank of 35.66 percent and a put-to-call open-interest ratio of 1.39. Its high and low volatility point fields, which read 743 and 890, are excluded.
At the measured closing basis of 203.95 points, the December settlement of 29,391.50 less the 29,187.55 cash close, the put side support base at NDX 29,500 corresponds to 29,703.95 on the December contract, the modeled volatility threshold at NDX 29,950 to 30,153.95, the largest concentration at NDX 30,000 to 30,203.95 and the modeled gamma-flip level at NDX 30,085 to 30,288.95. These conversions are this review's, not the source's.
The desk note said the Nasdaq-100 slid on monthly options expiration day, pressured by the selloff in artificial-intelligence shares and elevated oil prices, and reported a large trade in QQQ October 30 puts about ten minutes before the close, which it described as downside hedging ahead of next week's earnings. That description is the note's; the console reports volume and modeled gamma without trade side, so no directional read is drawn from it here. The volatility index expiration on October 21 is listed by the positioning note, unconfirmed.
In this review's interpretation, drawn from the index model and the QQQ fund proxy, both model outputs, a cash close beneath the put side support base and beneath the flip level, with negative gamma notional on both the index and the fund, describes positioning that is less likely to dampen moves; it is a damping read with no direction. The setup in section 8 sells the 29,600 to 29,660 band, beneath the 29,703.95 conversion of the put side support base, with the stop at 29,800 above it.

China's third-quarter data are listed at 10:00 PM ET on Sunday, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. 6.7 Most Likely Path
In this review's analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between one standard deviation support at 28,787.08 and one standard deviation resistance at 29,995.92, with a rally toward the 29,600 to 29,660 band that fails beneath the 29,703.95 conversion weighted above a sustained recovery. The settle sits beneath every settlement average from the 5-day to the 100-day after a fifth consecutive lower settle, negative direction leads on both directional systems, and the cash close sits beneath the put side support base with negative gamma notional on the index model and the QQQ fund proxy (section 5; model outputs, read as a damping lens with no direction).
The alternative that would invalidate this reading is a relief rally after monthly options expiration, a scenario the desk note's October 15 update raised for early next week after a sharp decline into Friday, carrying the contract through Pivot R1 at 29,988.08 toward Thursday's 30,143.75 settle. The 9-day relative strength at 24.61 and raw stochastics at 5.23 percent leave the contract stretched to the downside, which keeps that alternative live.

The next policy statement is scheduled for 2:00 PM ET on October 28, 2026, as the calendar lists it. In this review's judgment the first-order influences on Monday are the weekend's artificial-intelligence and Gulf headlines, priced at the 6:00 PM ET Sunday reopen, with the streaming company at 4:01 PM ET on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, as the calendar lists it, the first large earnings test.
8. Primary Trade Setup
Direction: Short
Rationale: Friday printed an outside day that settled at 12.8 percent of its range for a fifth consecutive lower settle, the settle sits beneath every settlement average from the 5-day to the 100-day, negative direction leads on the 9-day and 14-day directional systems, and the cash close sits beneath the put side support base at NDX 29,500 with negative gamma notional on the index model and the QQQ fund proxy (model outputs, read as a damping lens with no direction); a rally into the Pivot Point at 29,628.42 offers a short with a defined risk point above the 14-3 day momentum projection at 29,738.30. The 9-day relative strength reads 24.61 and two weekend days of headlines separate the settle from the reopen, so the setup is an analyst judgment that rallies are sold while the technology selloff persists, not a measured edge.
Entry Zone: 29,600 to 29,660
Stop Loss: 29,800 (above the 14-3 day momentum projection at 29,738.30 and the 29,703.95 conversion of the put side support base)
Target 1 (T1): 29,460 (68.50 above Friday's 29,391.50 settle)
Target 2 (T2): 29,290 (21.25 above Friday's 29,268.75 low)
Target 3 (T3, extended): 29,120 (58.62 above the 38.2 percent retracement at 29,061.38)
Risk-to-Reward: Approximately 1:1 to T1, 1:2 to T2, 1:3 to T3
Invalidation: A settle above Pivot R1 at 29,988.08 negates the thesis. Short of that, the edge is removed by acceptance above the entry band and not by a touch, defined as two consecutive 30-minute closes above 29,660.
Macro override: A weekend headline that eases the artificial-intelligence financing concerns, or a de-escalation in the Gulf that pulls crude lower, would support a relief rally after options expiration. In that scenario a gap or move through the 29,800 stop removes the setup, and Pivot R1 at 29,988.08 and Thursday's 30,143.75 settle become the references, both within one 14-day average true range of 512.12 points above the stop.
Sources and methodology
This outlook is built from our session review of the December E-mini Nasdaq-100 contract, the December ’26 contract, prepared after Friday's close on October 16, 2026 for the Monday, October 19, 2026 session. Friday's open, high, low and settle come from the provider's daily settlement record for the December contract, the 2026-10-16 row, and match the chart's completed daily bar. Friday's completed extremes are also the inputs behind the published pivot ladder: Pivot R3 at 30,944.33 less Pivot S3 at 28,075.58, divided by three, and Pivot R2 at 30,584.67 less Pivot S2 at 28,672.17, divided by two, both return 956.25, and three times the 29,628.42 Pivot Point less the settle gives 59,493.76, 0.01 from the 59,493.75 of the solved pair of 30,225.00 and 29,268.75. The chart's 30-minute bars for the session, from the 6:00 PM ET Thursday bar through the 4:30 PM ET Friday bar, reproduce the same extremes; they place the high in the 1:00 AM ET bar and the low in the 3:00 PM ET bar, and every timed statement about Friday in this article rests on them. Only those figures and the review's statements are used to grade Friday's card. Friday's session opened at the Thursday 6:00 PM ET reopen. Globex closed at 5:00 PM ET Friday and reopens at 6:00 PM ET Sunday, so the open, high and low on the provider's overview belong to the completed Friday session.
The moving averages were computed from the provider's 260-session daily settlement series; the oscillators are cited as published for the Friday session, read after the Globex close. Volume and open interest come from the provider's daily record: the 2026-10-16 row reads 797,480 contracts with open interest not yet reported, and the 2026-10-15 row now reads 816,479 contracts and open interest of 274,603, where Friday's outlook carried 803,966 for Thursday. The 2026-10-14 row reads open interest of 281,712. The desk note used is the 5:15 PM ET Friday edition, read at 6:17 PM ET, with Thursday's closes in its reference column; every Nasdaq futures equivalent is the review's conversion at the 203.95 point measured basis, the December settlement less the cash close from the same provider's daily record, and Thursday's 208.16 basis is the figure carried in Friday's outlook. The QQQ fund is a proxy read alongside the index levels. The reading that positioning is less likely to dampen moves is the review's interpretation from the index model and that proxy, both model outputs, and it is a damping read with no direction; the fund console, marked as updated 2026-10-16, was read at about 6:19 PM ET, and its high and low volatility point fields are excluded. The dollar index percentage, the open-interest change and the cash-close distances to the 30,000 concentration and the 30,100 call-side ceiling are computed. Scenario ranges are analyst judgment, and items marked unconfirmed come from the news-feed calendar or the positioning note.
