Within its first 30 minutes, Tuesday's session had already printed its high. The bar from the Monday 6:00 PM ET reopen opened at 30,876.00, reached 30,906.00 and closed at 30,897.75, and nothing afterwards traded above that peak. The December Nasdaq-100 contract later sank to 30,591.25 and settled at 30,791.50. That was down 106.75 points, or 0.35 percent, from Monday's 30,898.25.
It was a lower high and a lower low. The high sat 383.25 points beneath Monday's and the low 253.00 beneath Monday's, and the settle finished at 63.6 percent of a 314.75 point range. That range was 0.72 times the 14-day average daily range. It was the second lower settle in a row and the lowest since the 30,760.50 settle of 10/01. Chips slipped again. The semiconductor index closed down 0.23 percent after Monday's 2.67 percent drop.
December Nasdaq-100 futures settled at 30,791.50, down 106.75 points, after a lower high and a lower low. The settle sits beneath the 5-day and 9-day settlement averages and above the 20-day. The primary setup is a short from 30,920 to 30,980, a band that wraps Pivot R1 at 30,934.58, the 18-day crossing price at 30,935.63 and 30,972.02, the December equivalent of the modeled volatility threshold, stop 31,090 above Pivot R2 at 31,077.67, targets 30,810, 30,670 and an extended 30,530. It needs a rally to engage. The whole band sits 128.50 to 188.50 points above the settle. The September consumer price index prints at 8:30 AM ET Wednesday, as the calendar lists it.
Tuesday's 30,906.00 high stopped 94.00 points under the short band
In Tuesday’s outlook we set a short from 31,000 to 31,060, stop 31,190. Its targets sat at 30,870, 30,710 and an extended 30,550. Tuesday's bar, from the review, opened at 30,876.00 at the Monday 6:00 PM ET reopen, marked a high of 30,906.00 and a low of 30,591.25, and settled at 30,791.50. The band never traded. The high stopped 94.00 points beneath its 31,000 bottom and 154.00 beneath its 31,060 top. The stop sat 284.00 points above the high.
The record places the high in time. The first 30-minute bar, from 6:00 PM ET Monday, traded from 30,876.00 to 30,906.00 and closed at 30,897.75, so the session high printed in that bar. Only that bar and the 4:30 PM ET bar were preserved. The record cannot say when the 30,591.25 low printed or whether 30,906.00 was touched again later. Price did run through two of the card's targets. The low sat 278.75 points beneath 30,870 and 118.75 beneath 30,710, and stopped 41.25 above the extended 30,550. Without an entry in the band, those prints score nothing. No fill and no result is asserted.
The card's other lines stayed out of play. Its invalidation was a settle above Pivot R1 at 31,176.92, and the settle finished 385.42 points beneath it. Its acceptance test needed two consecutive 30-minute closes above 31,108.55. The high stayed 202.55 points under that line, so no 30-minute close could have printed above it. The settle landed 208.50 points beneath the band.
Our ranges mostly held. The most likely band of 30,566 to 31,266 contained the whole session, with the low 25.25 points above its bottom and the high 360.00 beneath its top. The high-range case of 30,444 to 31,352 held it too. The low-range case of 30,732 to 31,177 did not. Its bottom gave way by 140.75 points. The weighted path expected a hold between Pivot S2 at 30,565.58 and Pivot R1 at 31,176.92, and the session stayed inside it, with the low 25.67 points above that pivot. The rally it weighted toward the band fell 94.00 points short, and the settle finished 15.05 points beneath the 30,806.55 flip equivalent named in that outlook.
Pivot R1 at 30,934.58, the 30,920 to 30,980 band and the 30,972.02 threshold equivalent
The basis narrowed to 222.02 points, the 30,791.50 settle less the 30,569.48 cash close, from 233.55 on Monday. Every December equivalent of a positioning level in this article uses it: 31,222.02 for the 31,000 gamma concentration, 31,022.02 for the 30,800 call-side ceiling, 30,972.02 for the 30,750 modeled volatility threshold, 30,579.02 for the 30,357 modeled gamma-flip level and 30,422.02 for the 30,200 put-side base. These conversions are the review's own. The desk note publishes no Nasdaq futures pair.
Resistance starts close. Monday's 30,898.25 settle sits 106.75 points above, and Tuesday's 30,906.00 high 114.50 above. Then comes the band. Pivot R1 at 30,934.58 and the 18-day crossing price at 30,935.63 sit 1.05 points apart, 14.58 and 15.63 points above the 30,920 bottom. The threshold sits inside too. Its 30,972.02 equivalent lies 7.98 points beneath the 30,980 top, and the momentum projection level at 30,986.63 sits 6.63 above that top. The next grouping runs from the 31,022.02 ceiling equivalent and one standard deviation resistance at 31,027.40 to the 5-day average at 31,034.05 and Pivot R2 at 31,077.67. The 31,090 stop sits 12.33 above that pivot and 1.83 above the 9-day average at 31,088.17. Beyond it come two standard deviations resistance at 31,125.11, the 9-day crossing price at 31,129.13, three standard deviations resistance at 31,200.09, the 31,222.02 concentration equivalent and Pivot R3 at 31,249.33. The 31,616.50 52-week high is the extended reference.
Support starts 28.58 points down. The Pivot Point at 30,762.92, the 9-day stall level at 30,760.50 and the 20-day average at 30,741.14 come first, all within 21.78 points. The published target price at 30,687.20, the 3-10 day crossover stall level at 30,675.68 and the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 30,637.24 come next, then Pivot S1 at 30,619.83. Tuesday's 30,591.25 low, the 30,579.02 flip equivalent and one standard deviation support at 30,555.60 form the next grouping. Two standard deviations support at 30,457.89, Pivot S2 at 30,448.17, the 30,422.02 put-side equivalent, three standard deviations support at 30,382.91, the 50 percent retracement at 30,334.75 and Pivot S3 at 30,305.08 follow. Deeper still lie the 40-day crossing at 30,204.51, the 50-day at 30,185.46, the 100-day at 30,062.60, the 29,053.00 one-month low, the 200-day at 28,244.73 and the 27,482.00 13-week low.
Two averages sit overhead. The settle is 242.55 points beneath the 5-day and 296.67 beneath the 9-day. It is 50.36 above the 20-day, 606.04 above the 50-day, 728.90 above the 100-day and 2,546.77 above the 200-day. The 20-day cushion is thin. The 5-day fell 138.35 points from 31,172.40 as the 10/06 settle of 31,483.25 left the window and 30,791.50 replaced it. The 20-day rose 77.24 from 30,663.90 and the 50-day 32.19 from 30,153.27. The older settlements sit lower. The 30 older ones in the 50-day window averaged 29,815.01, and the 50 older ones in the 100-day window 29,939.74.
Momentum slipped. Relative strength reads 49.64 on the 9-day, 53.63 on the 14-day and 54.54 on the 20-day. The raw stochastic reads 24.12 percent on the 9-day and 34.51 percent on the 14-day, and the 14-day %K at 45.73 percent sits beneath %D at 57.01 percent. Sellers now lead. On the 9-day, negative direction at 24.19 tops positive at 18.20 by 5.99, with the ADX at 22.03; on the 14-day, 22.00 tops 20.56 by 1.44, with the ADX at 16.93. Historic volatility reads 11.48 percent and 10.46 percent. These readings are as published for the Wednesday session after the 6:00 PM ET reopen, so the page may carry the live Globex price.
The composite multi-indicator read fell to 40 percent buy from 48 percent, strength weak and direction weakest. A week ago it read 88 percent buy. A month ago, 24 percent sell. The short-horizon group averages 20 percent buy, the medium 25 percent buy and the long 67 percent buy, and the trend indicator still reads buy.
Tuesday ran narrow. The 14-day average true range stands at 444.17 points, 1.44 percent of the settle, and the 14-day average daily range at 434.27; the 9-day figures are 433.99 and 443.39 and the 20-day figures 458.21 and 463.67. One average true range either side of the settle spans 30,347.33 to 31,235.67. The deviation bands, built from five settlements, run 30,555.60 to 31,027.40, 30,457.89 to 31,125.11 and 30,382.91 to 31,200.09. Eight sessions of daily ranges read 522.25, 413.50, 307.25, 378.00, 674.00, 313.50, 445.00 and 314.75 points. Last week spanned 31,616.50 to 30,792.00, and Tuesday's low sits 200.75 points beneath that span. Over five sessions the contract fell 691.75 points from the 31,483.25 settle of 10/06. The 52-week high sits 825.00 above the settle and the 29,053.00 one-month low 1,738.50 beneath it. No prior-quarter extremes were captured, so the 13-week high of 31,616.50 and low of 27,482.00 stand in.
Memory makers slide, yields ease and the inflation report comes next
Chips slipped for a second day. The semiconductor index closed at 12,208.79, down 28.00 points or 0.23 percent, after Monday's 2.67 percent decline. The Nasdaq-100 cash index closed at 30,569.48, down 0.31 percent. Provider commentary said the index fell to a one-and-a-half-week low as weakness in chipmakers weighed amid concerns that investment in artificial intelligence may be unsustainable. The same commentary said a selloff in South Korea's two largest memory makers knocked the Korean benchmark down more than 5 percent to a two-and-a-half-month low.
The desk note told a similar story. The desk note said the Korean market fell 6 percent overnight and the memory group about 3 percent, while energy rose about 2 percent and rate-sensitive groups such as solar and homebuilders also outperformed. The broad market held near flat. The S&P 500 fell 0.02 percent and the Dow Jones Industrial Average 0.35 percent.
Technology headlines piled up. At 12:06 PM ET the news feed carried a statement from the search company's chief executive that its new model is available. From 11:31 AM ET to 1:33 PM ET the news feed carried items that the leading chip designer is investing in several European artificial-intelligence companies and will announce European investments this week. Then came a security story. At 3:49 PM ET to 3:50 PM ET a leading artificial-intelligence developer said, per the news feed, that a recording device had been hidden in its offices and that it has no indication model weights or customer data were accessed. At 4:42 PM ET the Justice Department said, per the news feed, that a Saudi national was arrested over the device. The desk note said the largest social-media company rose 3 percent. Investment-bank commentary carried by the news feed discussed competitive pressure on memory economics and a large software company's custom chips. None of these is a confirmed result.
Yields eased. The ten-year yield index slipped to 5.22 percent from 5.24 percent and the thirty-year to 5.56 percent from 5.59 percent. The dollar index closed at 102.18, down 0.41. A Federal Reserve bank president said at 2:05 PM ET to 2:08 PM ET, per the news feed, that one more rate increase may be appropriate this year and that the economy is not overheating. Per the news feed, he also said he is not seeing broad price pressure outside artificial intelligence and energy. At 4:00 PM ET to 4:01 PM ET a regional president said, per the news feed, that she expects inflation to stay above 2 percent because of high energy prices and that the data-centre build-out is pressuring inflation readings. Investment-bank commentary carried by the news feed said rate futures price less than a 20 percent probability of an increase at this month's meeting.
Gulf headlines ran through the afternoon. The news feed carried at 2:34 PM ET to 2:43 PM ET reports of booms near the Saudi energy company's Dhahran headquarters and a missile interception. Then came Hormuz. At 3:04 PM ET to 3:08 PM ET it carried maritime security reports of a container vessel and a tanker struck in the Strait of Hormuz. At 3:47 PM ET the news feed carried a press report that Israel's Prime Minister and the President discussed a possible new action on Iran. None of these was confirmed as an event.
Implied volatility edged up. The Nasdaq-100 implied-volatility gauge closed at 21.14, up 0.30, and the volatility index at 15.27, up 0.06. The volatility-of-volatility index closed at 85.38. The desk note said fixed-strike implied volatility on the S&P 500 rose one to two points over the past week and that at-the-money implied volatility for Wednesday's expiration stands at 12.7 percent ahead of the inflation report. In commodities, November WTI crude settled at 94.14, up 0.43 percent, and gold at 4,177.3, down 0.32 percent.
The cash close sits between model lines. The 5:28 PM ET Tuesday desk note carries Monday's closes in its reference column: 30,664 matches Monday's 30,664.70 cash close, and 746 is consistent with the 746.02 last-close label on the fund's console. Against Tuesday's 30,569.48 close, the index sits 430.52 points beneath the 31,000 gamma concentration, 230.52 beneath the 30,800 call-side ceiling and 180.52 beneath the 30,750 modeled volatility threshold. It sits 212.48 above the 30,357 modeled gamma-flip level, with the 30,200 put-side base further down. Gamma tilt reads 1.171 for the index and 0.868 for the QQQ fund, with gamma notional of plus 4.993 million and minus 196.411 million. The note lists 31,000, 30,000, 30,500 and 30,800 as key strikes.
On the QQQ proxy the call-side ceiling sits at 760, the threshold at 746, the flip level at 744, and both the largest concentration and the put-side base at 740. No fund close for Tuesday was captured. The fund's position against those levels is therefore not stated. Its console, dated 2026-10-13, repeated the previous read's gamma and volatility statistics unchanged, so they are treated as stale and not used. In the review's interpretation a cash close beneath the threshold and above the flip level, with the fund's gamma notional negative, places the contract in a zone where dealer positioning does not dampen moves. The threshold and flip level are model outputs. Neither is an option strike.
Activity picked up. Volume rose to 529,213 contracts from 452,221 on Monday, a figure revised from the 444,725 carried in Tuesday's outlook. Open interest read 281,129 on the 2026-10-12 row against 279,610 on the 2026-10-09 row, and Tuesday's figure is not yet reported. The positioning report is a week old. It is dated October 6, 2026 and puts leveraged funds at 51,349 long against 70,561 short and asset managers at 111,727 long against 37,929 short. The desk note said the S&P 500 hedging-flow measure finished at about minus 7 billion dollars of delta, driven by same-day call selling and longer-dated put buying, and read it as moderate hedging demand ahead of the inflation report.
The trade map for Wednesday
The primary setup is a short from 30,920 to 30,980. Tuesday printed a lower high and a lower low and settled beneath the 5-day and 9-day averages. Negative direction leads on both directional windows, and the composite fell to 40 percent buy with direction weakest. The band wraps Pivot R1 at 30,934.58, the 18-day crossing price at 30,935.63 and the 30,972.02 threshold equivalent, with its top 7.98 points above that equivalent. All of it sits above the settle. Its bottom sits 14.00 points above Tuesday's high. A fill there means price has climbed at least 128.50 points off the settle and traded above Tuesday's high, so the thesis is that a rally into Pivot R1 stalls. The targets sit at 30,810, 47.08 above the Pivot Point, 30,670, 5.68 beneath the 3-10 day crossover stall level, and an extended 30,530, 25.60 beneath one standard deviation support. Caveats remain. The settle sits above the 20-day through 200-day averages and finished at 63.6 percent of its range, and the inflation print can move yields sharply, so the review calls it an analyst judgment that the decline extends from a rally, with no measured edge behind it.
Now the arithmetic. From the 30,950 midpoint the risk to the stop is 140 points, 31.5 percent of the 14-day average true range of 444.17. The targets sit 140, 280 and 420 points beneath the midpoint. Exact multiples. The first target, 30,810, sits 18.50 points above the settle. The settle sits 128.50 points beneath the band bottom and 188.50 beneath its top, and the 6:12 PM ET quote widens the first gap to 146.00.
The scenario ranges are analyst judgment. The low-range case runs 30,620 to 30,935, the most likely 30,450 to 31,080 and the high-range case 30,350 to 31,240. Session by session the review expects roughly 30,640 to 30,900 through Globex, with a neutral to lower bias beneath Pivot R1 at 30,934.58. London follows at 30,600 to 30,940, with the 30,920 to 30,980 band the first meaningful resistance. The morning and afternoon bands both run 30,450 to 31,130. At writing the Wednesday session had opened at 30,791.50 and traded from 30,770.50 to 30,802.50. The 4:30 PM ET bar had closed at 30,782.00, a post-settlement quote and not the settle.
Wednesday's calendar starts overnight. Chinese consumer and producer prices are listed at 9:30 PM ET Tuesday and a European Central Bank president's remarks at 10:10 PM ET, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The European lithography maker reports at 1:00 AM ET, a Federal Reserve vice chair speaks at 5:40 AM ET, and large banks report at about 6:45 AM ET and 7:30 AM ET, as the calendar lists them. Then the main event. The September consumer price index prints at 8:30 AM ET, as the calendar lists it, before the 9:30 AM ET cash open. The news-feed calendar lists forecasts of 0.6 percent for the month and 3.6 percent for the year, and 0.2 percent and 2.5 percent for the core measure. Business formation statistics follow at 10:00 AM ET, as the calendar lists them. A regional Federal Reserve president is listed at 1:30 PM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The central bank's regional survey of economic conditions is set for 2:00 PM ET, and the vice chair speaks again at 10:55 PM ET, as the calendar lists both. On Thursday, October 15, 2026 the leading foundry holds its conference at 2:00 AM ET, and retail sales and producer prices follow at 8:30 AM ET, as the calendar lists them.
One path is weighted. In the review's analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between Pivot S2 at 30,448.17 and Pivot R2 at 31,077.67, with the inflation print deciding the side. In that judgment a rally toward the 30,920 to 30,980 band that fails beneath the 30,972.02 threshold equivalent is weighted above a sustained break higher. No measured frequency backs it. The alternative is a soft inflation print or a rebound in chip shares that carries the contract through Pivot R2 at 31,077.67 toward the 9-day average crossing price at 31,129.13. In the review's judgment the inflation print, through its effect on yields, is the first-order influence on Wednesday, with the lithography maker's results the overnight read for chip shares.
Tuesday's high came in the first half hour, 14.00 points beneath where Wednesday's short band begins.

1. Executive Summary
The December Nasdaq-100 contract settled at 30,791.50 on Tuesday, down 106.75 points or 0.35 percent from Monday's settle of 30,898.25, after trading between 30,906.00 and 30,591.25, a 314.75 point daily range. The settle finished at 63.6 percent of the range, and the range was 0.72 times the published 14-day average daily range of 434.27 points. Tuesday printed a lower high and a lower low against Monday, the second consecutive lower settle. The 30,791.50 settle was the lowest since the 30,760.50 settle of 10/01, and the 30,591.25 low the lowest since the 30,529.25 low of 10/01.
The Nasdaq-100 cash index closed at 30,569.48, down 0.31 percent, and the semiconductor index at 12,208.79, down 0.23 percent, after Monday's 2.67 percent decline. Provider commentary said the Nasdaq-100 fell to a one-and-a-half-week low as weakness in chipmakers weighed amid concerns that investment in artificial intelligence may be unsustainable, and that a selloff in South Korea's two largest memory makers knocked the Korean benchmark down more than 5 percent to a two-and-a-half-month low. The desk note said the Korean market fell 6 percent overnight and the memory group about 3 percent, while energy rose about 2 percent.
The ten-year yield index eased to 5.22 percent from 5.24 percent and the dollar index closed at 102.18, down 0.41. A Federal Reserve bank president said at 2:05 PM ET, per the news feed, that one more rate increase may be appropriate this year and that he is not seeing broad price pressure outside artificial intelligence and energy. The composite multi-indicator read published for the Wednesday session is 40 percent buy with direction described as weakest, down from 48 percent buy in the prior session's snapshot and 88 percent buy a week ago.
The Wednesday session carries the September consumer price index at 8:30 AM ET, as the calendar lists it. The published 14-day average true range of 444.17 points is 1.44 percent of the settle. The Primary Setup below is a short from the 30,920 to 30,980 band, around Pivot R1 at 30,934.58 and the 18-day average crossing price at 30,935.63, stopped at 31,090 above Pivot R2 at 31,077.67, with objectives at 30,810, 30,670 and an extended 30,530.
2. Price Action & Technical Structure
2.1 Intraday and Session Review
The Tuesday session opened at 30,876.00 at the Monday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 22.25 points beneath Monday's settle, marked a daily high of 30,906.00 and a daily low of 30,591.25, and settled at 30,791.50. No complete intraday series was preserved for this session, so this review makes no claim about when the high or the low printed or about the path between them. The daily high and low are full Globex session extremes rather than extremes of the cash session.
After the settle, the chart's 4:30 PM ET bar closed at 30,782.00; that post-settlement quote is not used as the settlement anywhere in this review. Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET, so the provider's displayed day open, high and low of 30,791.50, 30,802.50 and 30,770.50 belong to the new session dated Wednesday, not to Tuesday, and are not used as Tuesday's range.
The session extremes used here are the completed-session inputs behind the published pivot ladder and were not read independently from a bar, back-solved from the outer pivot pairs and verified against every rung. Pivot R3 at 31,249.33 minus Pivot S3 at 30,305.08, divided by three, returns 314.75, and Pivot R2 at 31,077.67 minus Pivot S2 at 30,448.17, divided by two, returns the same 314.75. Three times the Pivot Point of 30,762.92 less the 30,791.50 settle gives a high plus low sum of 61,497.26, which the pair of 30,906.00 and 30,591.25 reproduces to rounding, and that pair reproduces all seven published rungs. Independent corroboration: the provider's settlement row, the chart's completed Tuesday daily bar and the extremes of the captured Tuesday 30-minute bars carry the same 30,906.00 high and 30,591.25 low.
2.2 Daily Structure
Tuesday printed a lower high and a lower low against Monday: the 30,906.00 high sits 383.25 points beneath Monday's 31,289.25, and the 30,591.25 low sits 253.00 points beneath Monday's 30,844.25. The settle at 63.6 percent of the range leaves an upper shadow of 30.00 points above the 30,876.00 open and a lower shadow of 200.25 points beneath the settle on the daily bar. The sequence of session highs over the last six sessions reads 31,616.50, 31,521.00, 31,466.00, 31,266.50, 31,289.25 and 30,906.00, and the sequence of session lows reads 31,309.25, 31,143.00, 30,792.00, 30,953.00, 30,844.25 and 30,591.25. Settlements over the same six sessions ran 31,483.25, 31,402.25, 30,969.50, 31,108.75, 30,898.25 and 30,791.50.
Last week, October 5 through October 9, spanned 31,616.50 to 30,792.00, and Tuesday's 30,591.25 low sits 200.75 points beneath that span. The 52-week, 13-week and one-month high of 31,616.50 sits 825.00 points above the settle, and the one-month low of 29,053.00 sits 1,738.50 points beneath it. Over five sessions the contract fell 691.75 points from the 31,483.25 settle of 10/06.
No prior-quarter high or low was captured, so the 13-week extremes serve as the available quarterly reference: 31,616.50 above and 27,482.00 beneath.
2.3 4-Hour and Swing Structure
Daily ranges for the last eight sessions ran 522.25, 413.50, 307.25, 378.00, 674.00, 313.50, 445.00 and 314.75. The settlement changes over the same eight sessions read plus 301.25, plus 256.00, plus 165.50, minus 81.00, minus 432.75, plus 139.25, minus 210.50 and minus 106.75.
The retracement grid published for Wednesday places the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 30,637.24, 154.26 points beneath the settle, and the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 30,334.75. Above the settle, the 52-week high of 31,616.50 is the nearest published swing reference. No four-hour series was captured, so swing structure here rests on daily bars only.
2.4 Moving Averages
The averages cited in this subsection were computed from the provider's daily settlement series for the December contract, which holds 259 completed sessions through Tuesday. The 5-day average stands at 31,034.05, the 9-day at 31,088.17, the 20-day at 30,741.14, the 50-day at 30,185.46, the 100-day at 30,062.60 and the 200-day at 28,244.73.
The 30,791.50 settle sits 242.55 points beneath the 5-day average and 296.67 points beneath the 9-day, and 50.36 points above the 20-day, 606.04 points above the 50-day, 728.90 points above the 100-day and 2,546.77 points above the 200-day. The 5-day average fell 138.35 points from Monday's 31,172.40, because the 10/06 settle of 31,483.25 left the window and was replaced by 30,791.50. The 20-day rose 77.24 points from 30,663.90 and the 50-day rose 32.19 points from 30,153.27.
The 20-day average sits above the 50-day because the last 20 settlements averaged 30,741.14 against 30,185.46 for the full 50, which means the 30 older settlements in the 50-day window averaged lower, at 29,815.01. The 50-day sits above the 100-day because the older 50 settlements in the 100-day window averaged lower, at 29,939.74. The projection grid gives the prices at which each average would be crossed on Wednesday: 31,129.13 for the 9-day, 30,935.63 for the 18-day and 30,204.51 for the 40-day.
2.5 Oscillator and Trend Readings
The oscillator figures below are as published on the provider's technical page dated for the Wednesday session and read after the 6:00 PM ET reopen; the page can substitute the live Globex price for the settle, so these readings carry that caveat. The 9-day relative strength reads 49.64, the 14-day relative strength 53.63 and the 20-day relative strength 54.54.
The 9-day raw stochastic reads 24.12 percent and the 14-day raw stochastic 34.51 percent, while the 14-day stochastic %K reads 45.73 percent and the 14-day stochastic %D 57.01 percent, so %K sits beneath %D.
The 9-day directional index ADX reads 22.03 with the 9-day +DI at 18.20 and the 9-day -DI at 24.19; the 14-day directional index ADX reads 16.93 with the 14-day +DI at 20.56 and the 14-day -DI at 22.00, so negative direction leads on both. The 9-day historic volatility reads 11.48 percent and the 14-day historic volatility 10.46 percent.
The composite multi-indicator read published for the Wednesday session is 40 percent buy, down from 48 percent buy in the prior session's snapshot, with signal strength described as weak and direction as weakest. The snapshot history reads 88 percent buy a week ago and 24 percent sell a month ago. The short-horizon group averages 20 percent buy, the medium-horizon group 25 percent buy and the long-horizon group 67 percent buy, and the composite trend indicator reads buy.
2.6 Volatility and Expected Range
The published 14-day average true range stands at 444.17 points and the 14-day average daily range at 434.27 points; the 9-day average true range is 433.99 with a 9-day average daily range of 443.39, and the 20-day average true range is 458.21 with a 20-day average daily range of 463.67. Tuesday's 314.75 point range was 0.72 times the 14-day average daily range.
Adding and subtracting the 14-day average true range of 444.17 points from the 30,791.50 settle frames Wednesday between 30,347.33 and 31,235.67. The published standard-deviation bands are narrower because they are built from five settlements: one deviation spans 30,555.60 to 31,027.40, two spans 30,457.89 to 31,125.11 and three spans 30,382.91 to 31,200.09. These bands describe settlement dispersion, not intraday reach.
3. Key Levels
3.1 Resistance
Above the 30,791.50 settle, Monday's 30,898.25 settle and Tuesday's 30,906.00 high come first. Pivot R1 at 30,934.58 and the 18-day average crossing price at 30,935.63 form the band that anchors the setup, with the 30,972.02 conversion of the modeled volatility threshold and the momentum projection level at 30,986.63 just above them. One standard deviation resistance at 31,027.40, the 31,022.02 conversion of the primary call side ceiling, the 5-day settlement average at 31,034.05 and Pivot R2 at 31,077.67 form the next grouping. Two standard deviations resistance at 31,125.11, the 9-day average crossing price at 31,129.13, three standard deviations resistance at 31,200.09, the 31,222.02 conversion of the largest gamma concentration and Pivot R3 at 31,249.33 follow, with the 31,616.50 52-week high the extended reference.
3.2 Support
Beneath the settle, the Pivot Point at 30,762.92, the 9-day average stall level at 30,760.50 and the 20-day settlement average at 30,741.14 come first. The published target price at 30,687.20, the 3-10 day crossover stall level at 30,675.68 and the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 30,637.24 come next, followed by Pivot S1 at 30,619.83. Tuesday's 30,591.25 low, the 30,579.02 conversion of the modeled gamma-flip level and one standard deviation support at 30,555.60 form the next grouping. Two standard deviations support at 30,457.89, Pivot S2 at 30,448.17, the 30,422.02 conversion of the primary put side support base, three standard deviations support at 30,382.91, the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 30,334.75 and Pivot S3 at 30,305.08 follow.

These are statements carried by the news feed and were not confirmed as events.
4.5 Cross-Asset and Volatility
The Nasdaq-100 implied-volatility gauge closed at 21.14, up 0.30, and the volatility index at 15.27, up 0.06. The volatility-of-volatility index closed at 85.38. The desk note said fixed-strike implied volatility on the S&P 500 rose one to two points over the past week and that at-the-money implied volatility for Wednesday's expiration stands at 12.7 percent ahead of the inflation report. November WTI crude settled at 94.14, up 0.43 percent, and gold at 4,177.3, down 0.32 percent.
4.6 Institutional Positioning
Tuesday's volume on the December contract was 529,213 contracts against Monday's revised 452,221. The provider's settlement series shows open interest of 281,129 for Monday against 279,610 on Friday; Tuesday's open interest had not been reported at the time of capture. The positioning report as of October 6, 2026, shown on the provider's overview, puts leveraged funds at 51,349 long against 70,561 short and asset managers at 111,727 long against 37,929 short. The desk note said the S&P 500 hedging-flow measure finished at about minus 7 billion dollars of delta, driven by same-day call selling and longer-dated put buying, and read it as moderate hedging demand ahead of the inflation report.
5. QQQ Options Flow Context (Proxy)
This section uses the QQQ fund as the proxy for the positioning data available, alongside the index levels published in the same desk note. The desk note used for this section is the 5:28 PM ET edition for Tuesday. Its reference prices are the prior session's closes, not Tuesday's: NDX 30,664 equals Monday's 30,664.70 cash close and QQQ 746 is consistent with the 746.02 last-close label on the fund's console, and 30,664.70 less 0.31 percent gives 30,569.6, consistent with the provider's 30,569.48 close. Every index level below is read against Tuesday's 30,569.48 cash close.
On the Nasdaq-100 index the largest gamma concentration sits at NDX 31,000, the primary call side ceiling at NDX 30,800, the modeled volatility threshold at NDX 30,750, the modeled gamma-flip level at NDX 30,357 and the primary put side support base at NDX 30,200. The 30,569.48 cash close sits 430.52 points beneath the 31,000 concentration, 180.52 points beneath the threshold and 212.48 points above the flip level. The note lists NDX 31,000, 30,000, 30,500 and 30,800 as key strikes. Gamma tilt reads 1.171 for the index and 0.868 for the fund, and gamma notional reads plus 4.993 million for the index and minus 196.411 million for the fund.
On the QQQ proxy the primary call side ceiling sits at 760, the modeled volatility threshold at 746, the modeled gamma-flip level at 744 and both the largest gamma concentration and the primary put side support base at 740. No fund close for Tuesday was captured from the provider's daily record, so the fund's position against those levels is not stated. The fund's positioning console, read at about 6:19 PM ET dated 2026-10-13, shows call gamma, put gamma, implied and realised volatility figures identical to the previous read of the 2026-10-10 build, so those statistics are treated as stale and are not used; its high and low volatility point fields are inverted and excluded.
At the measured closing basis of 222.02 points, the December settlement of 30,791.50 less the 30,569.48 cash close, NDX 31,000 corresponds to 31,222.02 on the December contract, the primary call side ceiling at NDX 30,800 to 31,022.02, the modeled volatility threshold at NDX 30,750 to 30,972.02, the modeled gamma-flip level at NDX 30,357 to 30,579.02 and the put side support base at NDX 30,200 to 30,422.02. These are conversions made by this review; the source publishes no Nasdaq futures pair, and the modeled threshold and flip level are model outputs, not option strikes.
In this review's interpretation a cash close beneath the modeled volatility threshold and above the flip level, with the fund's gamma notional negative, places the contract in a zone where dealer positioning does not dampen moves, and the 30,972.02 threshold equivalent sits inside the section 8 entry band, 7.98 points beneath its 30,980 top.
6. Forecast
6.1 Night Session (6:00 PM ET Tuesday to 3:00 AM ET Wednesday, Globex and Asia)

Chinese consumer and producer prices are listed at 9:30 PM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, and the European lithography maker reports at 1:00 AM ET on Wednesday, as the calendar lists it. Bias neutral to lower beneath Pivot R1 at 30,934.58, expected Globex band roughly 30,640 to 30,900.
6.2 London Session (3:00 AM to 8:00 AM ET Wednesday)
A Federal Reserve vice chair speaks at 5:40 AM ET, and large banks report at about 6:45 AM ET and 7:30 AM ET, all as the calendar lists them. Bias neutral to lower, expected band roughly 30,600 to 30,940, with the 30,920 to 30,980 band the first meaningful resistance.
6.3 Morning Session (9:30 AM to 12:00 PM ET Wednesday, RTH Open)
The consumer price index for September prints at 8:30 AM ET, as the calendar lists it, before the 9:30 AM ET cash open, with the news-feed calendar listing forecasts of 0.6 percent for the month and 0.2 percent for the core measure. Business formation statistics are scheduled at 10:00 AM ET, as the calendar lists it. Expected band roughly 30,450 to 31,130.
6.4 Afternoon Session (12:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET Wednesday)
A regional Federal Reserve president is listed at 1:30 PM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, and the central bank's regional survey of economic conditions follows at 2:00 PM ET, as the calendar lists it. Expected band roughly 30,450 to 31,130.
6.5 Night Session Forward (6:00 PM ET Wednesday)
The Thursday session opens at 6:00 PM ET Wednesday. A Federal Reserve vice chair speaks at 10:55 PM ET, as the calendar lists it, and the leading foundry holds its conference at 2:00 AM ET on Thursday, October 15, 2026, as the calendar lists it.
6.6 Expected Range (Wednesday Full Session)
Low-range scenario: 30,620 to 30,935
Mid-range scenario (most likely): 30,450 to 31,080
High-range scenario: 30,350 to 31,240
6.7 Most Likely Path
In this review's analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between Pivot S2 at 30,448.17 and Pivot R2 at 31,077.67, with the inflation print deciding the side. A rally toward the 30,920 to 30,980 band that fails beneath the 30,972.02 threshold equivalent is weighted above a sustained break higher, because Tuesday printed a lower high and a lower low, the settle sits beneath the 5-day and 9-day settlement averages, negative direction leads on the 9-day and 14-day directional systems and the composite fell to 40 percent buy with direction described as weakest. The 14-day stochastic %K also sits beneath %D. The alternative that would invalidate this reading is a soft inflation print or a rebound in chip shares that carries the contract through Pivot R2 at 31,077.67 toward the 9-day average crossing price at 31,129.13.
7. Wednesday Economic Calendar
Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Tuesday. Chinese consumer and producer prices are listed at 9:30 PM ET and a European Central Bank president's remarks at 10:10 PM ET, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed.
On Wednesday, the European lithography maker reports at 1:00 AM ET, as the calendar lists it. A Federal Reserve vice chair speaks at 5:40 AM ET, and large banks report at about 6:45 AM ET and 7:30 AM ET, all as the calendar lists them. The consumer price index for September prints at 8:30 AM ET, as the calendar lists it, with the news-feed calendar listing forecasts of 0.6 percent for the month and 3.6 percent for the year, and 0.2 percent and 2.5 percent for the core measure. The cash equity open follows at 9:30 AM ET. A regional Federal Reserve president is listed at 1:30 PM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The central bank's regional survey of economic conditions is scheduled at 2:00 PM ET, as the calendar lists it, and the vice chair speaks again at 10:55 PM ET, as the calendar lists it.
Later in the week, the leading foundry holds its conference at 2:00 AM ET on Thursday, October 15, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and retail sales and producer prices are scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Thursday, October 15, 2026, as the calendar lists it. In this review's judgment the first-order influence on the Nasdaq-100 on Wednesday is the September consumer price index at 8:30 AM ET, as the calendar lists it, through its effect on yields, with the European lithography maker's results at 1:00 AM ET, as the calendar lists it, the overnight read for chip shares.
8. Primary Trade Setup
Direction: Short
Rationale: Tuesday printed a lower high and a lower low, the settle sits beneath the 5-day and 9-day settlement averages, negative direction leads on the 9-day and 14-day directional systems and the composite fell to 40 percent buy with direction described as weakest; a rally into the 30,920 to 30,980 band of Pivot R1 at 30,934.58 and the 18-day average crossing price at 30,935.63, both beneath the 30,972.02 conversion of the modeled volatility threshold, offers a short with a defined risk point above Pivot R2 at 31,077.67. The settle sits above the 20-day through 200-day averages and finished at 63.6 percent of its range, and the inflation print can move yields sharply, so the setup is an analyst judgment that the decline extends from a rally, not a measured edge.
Entry Zone: 30,920 to 30,980
Stop Loss: 31,090 (above Pivot R2 at 31,077.67)
Target 1 (T1): 30,810 (47.08 above the Pivot Point at 30,762.92)
Target 2 (T2): 30,670 (5.68 beneath the 3-10 day crossover stall level at 30,675.68)
Target 3 (T3, extended): 30,530 (25.60 beneath one standard deviation support at 30,555.60)
Risk-to-Reward: Approximately 1:1 to T1, 1:2 to T2, 1:3 to T3
Invalidation: A settle above Pivot R2 at 31,077.67 negates the thesis. Short of that, the edge is removed by acceptance above the entry band and not by a touch, defined as two consecutive 30-minute closes above 30,980.
Macro override: A soft inflation print that pulls yields lower, or a rebound in chip shares on the European lithography maker's results, would invalidate the short in real time. In that scenario a move through the 31,090 stop removes the setup, and the 9-day average crossing price at 31,129.13 and Pivot R3 at 31,249.33 become the references within one 14-day average true range of 444.17 points.
Sources and methodology
This outlook is built from our session review of the December E-mini Nasdaq-100 contract, the December ’26 contract, prepared after Tuesday's close on October 13, 2026 for the Wednesday, October 14, 2026 session. Tuesday's open, high, low and settle come from the provider's daily settlement record for the December contract and match the chart's completed daily bar. Tuesday's completed extremes are also the inputs behind the published pivot ladder: Pivot R3 at 31,249.33 less Pivot S3 at 30,305.08, divided by three, and Pivot R2 at 31,077.67 less Pivot S2 at 30,448.17, divided by two, both return 314.75, and three times the 30,762.92 Pivot Point less the settle gives 61,497.26, 0.01 from the 61,497.25 of the solved pair of 30,906.00 and 30,591.25. Only those figures, the first and last 30-minute bars and the review's statements are used to grade Tuesday's card. The first bar, from 6:00 PM ET Monday, carries the 30,906.00 session high; no complete intraday series was preserved, so no claim is made about when the low printed. Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET Tuesday, so the day open, high and low on the provider's overview belong to the Wednesday session.
The moving averages were computed from the provider's 259-session daily settlement series; the oscillators are cited as published for the Wednesday session, read after the 6:00 PM ET reopen. Volume comes from the provider's daily record: the 2026-10-13 row reads 529,213 contracts, and the 2026-10-12 row now reads 452,221 contracts and open interest of 281,129, where Tuesday's outlook carried 444,725 for Monday. The 2026-10-09 row reads open interest of 279,610, and the 2026-10-13 open interest is not yet reported. The desk note used is the 5:28 PM ET Tuesday edition, with Monday's closes in its reference column; every Nasdaq futures equivalent is the review's conversion at the 222.02 point measured basis, and Monday's 233.55 basis is computed from Monday's settle and cash close. The QQQ fund is a proxy read alongside the index levels; its console's gamma and volatility statistics repeated the previous read and are excluded as stale, and its high and low volatility point fields are excluded as inverted. The dollar index percentage is computed. Scenario ranges are analyst judgment, and items marked unconfirmed come from the news-feed calendar, the news feed, the desk note or press reports.
Tuesday’s outlook for this contract is here, and the S&P 500 contract’s Tuesday outlook covers the index that slipped 0.02 percent in cash on Tuesday. Outlooks for ES, NQ, GC and CL are collected on the market outlook page, and our forward trading record is on the performance statement.
