At 6:22 PM ET on Monday the December Nasdaq-100 contract was quoted at 30,891.50, 6.75 points beneath its settle, minutes into the Tuesday session. Monday had been wide. The contract opened at 31,145.50 at the Sunday 6:00 PM ET reopen, traded between 31,289.25 and 30,844.25, and settled at 30,898.25. That was down 210.50 points, or 0.68 percent, from Friday's 31,108.75.
It was an outside day. The high cleared Friday's by 22.75 points and the low undercut Friday's by 108.75, yet the settle finished at 12.1 percent of the 445.00 point range, 247.25 points beneath the open. The range was the widest since the 674.00 point range of 10/08. The settle was the lowest since the 30,760.50 settle of 10/01. Chips fell hardest. The semiconductor index closed down 2.67 percent.
December Nasdaq-100 futures settled at 30,898.25, down 210.50 points, at 12.1 percent of an outside-day range. The settle sits beneath the 5-day and 9-day settlement averages and above the 20-day. The primary setup is a short from 31,000 to 31,060 around the Pivot Point at 31,010.58 and beneath 31,108.55, the December equivalent of the modeled volatility threshold, stop 31,190 above Pivot R1 at 31,176.92, targets 30,870, 30,710 and an extended 30,550. It needs a rally to engage. The whole band sits 101.75 to 161.75 points above the settle. Bank earnings begin at about 7:00 AM ET Tuesday, and the September consumer price index follows at 8:30 AM ET Wednesday, as the calendar lists both.
Monday's 30,844.25 low cut through the long band; the 30,780 stop held
In Monday’s outlook we set a long from 30,950 to 31,010, stop 30,780. Its targets sat at 31,180, 31,380 and an extended 31,580. Monday's bar, from the review, opened at 31,145.50 at the Sunday 6:00 PM ET reopen, marked a high of 31,289.25 and a low of 30,844.25, and settled at 30,898.25. The open sat 135.50 points above the band's top. Later the low went 105.75 points beneath its 30,950 bottom. The stop held. The low stopped 64.25 points above 30,780.
Order decides the first target, and the record holds only one piece of it. The first 30-minute bar, from 6:00 PM ET Sunday, traded from 31,124.50 to 31,196.00. Its high crossed 31,180 by 16.00 points while its low sat 114.50 above the band. So the first target traded before price reached the band. No complete intraday series was preserved for the rest of Monday. The record cannot say when the 31,289.25 high printed or whether price came back to 31,180 after it traded in the band. The 31,380 and 31,580 targets never printed; the high held 90.75 and 290.75 points beneath them. No fill and no result is asserted.
The card's lines held, though not by much. Its invalidation was a settle beneath Pivot S2 at 30,795.92. The settle finished 102.33 points above it. Its acceptance line sat at 30,872.60. The low went 28.35 points beneath that line and the settle finished 25.65 above it. Only the first and last 30-minute bars were preserved, so the record cannot show whether two consecutive 30-minute closes printed beneath it. The settle landed 51.75 points beneath the band and 118.25 above the stop.
Our ranges held up. The most likely band of 30,800 to 31,420 contained the whole session, with the high 130.75 points beneath its top and the low 44.25 above its bottom. The low-range case of 30,950 to 31,270 missed at both ends. It came up 19.25 short at the top and 105.75 at the bottom. The weighted path expected a hold between Pivot S2 at 30,795.92 and Pivot R2 at 31,422.92, and it got one: the low stayed 48.33 points above that pivot and the high 133.67 beneath the other. The dip it weighted reached the band. It did not stay above the 30,872.60 flip equivalent, which the low undercut by 28.35 points.
The Pivot Point at 31,010.58, the 31,000 to 31,060 band and the 31,108.55 threshold equivalent
The basis widened to 233.55 points, the 30,898.25 settle less the 30,664.70 cash close, from 225.60 on Friday. Every December equivalent of a positioning level in this article uses it: 31,233.55 for the 31,000 gamma concentration, 31,108.55 for the 30,875 modeled volatility threshold, 30,806.55 for the 30,573 modeled gamma-flip level and 30,433.55 for the 30,200 put-side base. These are our conversions. The desk note publishes no Nasdaq futures pair.
Resistance starts close. The 3-10 day crossover stall price at 30,957.29 sits 59.04 points above the settle, then comes the Pivot Point at 31,010.58, which anchors the band. The band runs from 31,000, 10.58 under the pivot, to 31,060, 48.55 under the 31,108.55 threshold equivalent. The 9-day average at 31,077.86, the threshold equivalent and the 9-day crossing price at 31,125.25 form the next band, 47.39 points wide. One standard deviation resistance at 31,157.98, the 5-day average at 31,172.40 and Pivot R1 at 31,176.92 follow within 18.94 points. The 31,190 stop sits 13.08 above that pivot. Beyond it come the 31,233.55 concentration equivalent, two standard deviations resistance at 31,265.56 and Monday's 31,289.25 high. Three standard deviations resistance at 31,348.11, Pivot R2 at 31,455.58, the 31,616.50 52-week high and Pivot R3 at 31,621.92 are the extended references.
Support starts 14.04 points down. The 18-day crossing price at 30,884.21 comes first, then Monday's 30,844.25 low and the 30,806.55 flip equivalent. The published target price at 30,783.30 and Pivot S1 at 30,731.92 form the next band. The 20-day average at 30,663.90, one standard deviation support at 30,638.52 and the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 30,637.24 sit beneath. Pivot S2 at 30,565.58 and two standard deviations support at 30,530.94 follow. Three standard deviations support at 30,448.39, the 30,433.55 put-side equivalent, the 50 percent retracement at 30,334.75 and Pivot S3 at 30,286.92 come next. Deeper still lie the 40-day crossing at 30,181.05, the 50-day at 30,153.27, the 100-day at 30,054.10, the 29,053.00 one-month low and the 200-day at 28,223.61.
Two averages now sit overhead. The settle is 274.15 points beneath the 5-day and 179.61 beneath the 9-day. It is 234.35 above the 20-day, 744.98 above the 50-day, 844.16 above the 100-day and 2,674.64 above the 200-day. The 5-day fell 83.90 points from 31,256.30 as the 10/05 settle of 31,317.75 left the window. The 20-day rose 72.44 from 30,591.46 and the 50-day 44.20 from 30,109.08. The older settlements sit lower. The 30 older ones in the 50-day window averaged 29,812.85, and the 50 older ones in the 100-day window 29,954.92.
Momentum faded. Relative strength reads 52.82 on the 9-day, 55.68 on the 14-day and 55.90 on the 20-day. The raw stochastic reads 34.96 percent on the 9-day and 42.98 percent on the 14-day, and the 14-day %K at 54.97 percent sits beneath %D at 69.07 percent. Buyers barely lead. On the 9-day, positive direction at 19.79 tops negative at 19.27 by 0.52, with the ADX at 23.01; on the 14-day, 21.65 tops 18.88, with the ADX at 17.98. Historic volatility reads 11.29 percent and 10.96 percent. These readings are as published for the Tuesday session after the 6:00 PM ET reopen, so the page may carry the live Globex price.
The composite multi-indicator read fell to 48 percent buy from 80 percent, strength minimum and direction weakest. A week ago it read 88 percent buy. A month ago, 8 percent buy. The short-horizon group averages 20 percent buy, the medium 25 percent buy and the long 100 percent buy, and the trend indicator still reads buy.
Ranges sit near their averages. The 14-day average true range stands at 454.12 points and the 14-day average daily range at 444.07; the 9-day figures are 448.90 and 452.17 and the 20-day figures 465.76 and 462.33. Monday's range was 1.00 times the 14-day average daily range. One average true range either side of the settle spans 30,444.13 to 31,352.37. The deviation bands run 30,638.52 to 31,157.98, 30,530.94 to 31,265.56 and 30,448.39 to 31,348.11. Eight sessions of daily ranges read 622.25, 522.25, 413.50, 307.25, 378.00, 674.00, 313.50 and 445.00 points. Last week spanned 31,616.50 to 30,792.00. Over five sessions the contract fell 419.50 points from the 31,317.75 settle of 10/05. The 52-week high sits 718.25 above the settle and the 29,053.00 one-month low 1,845.25 beneath it.
Chips down, crude up and a firmer dollar on Columbus Day
Chips took the hit. The semiconductor index closed at 12,236.79, down 335.63 points or 2.67 percent, after Friday's 0.41 percent decline. The desk note said the semiconductor fund fell about 3 percent and the memory group about 4 percent, with the largest memory maker down about 4 percent, while energy, consumer staples and healthcare rose about 1 percent each. The Nasdaq-100 cash index closed at 30,664.70, down 218.45 points or 0.71 percent, after a 30,618.64 to 30,813.96 session. The broad market held up better. The S&P 500 cash index closed at 7,807.24, down 0.06 percent, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average at 51,850.55, up 0.38 percent.
Technology headlines kept coming. The news feed carried at 12:55 PM ET to 1:05 PM ET, citing a press report for part of it, that the largest social-media company introduced a larger class of artificial-intelligence models, released two models and signalled further spending. At 11:00 AM ET and 11:02 AM ET the news feed carried a new optics form factor from the leading chip designer and a networking company. It also carried that the largest software company has moved into production on that networking company's silicon. At 3:34 PM ET, per the news feed, a chip maker said it began customer sampling of a new graphics processor line. None of these is a confirmed result.
Yields did not move. The cash Treasury market was closed for Columbus Day, per the desk note, and the ten-year yield index was unchanged at 5.24 percent. The dollar index stood at 102.59 as of 6:26 PM ET, up from Friday's 102.21 close. A regional Federal Reserve president said at 1:35 PM ET to 1:40 PM ET, per the news feed, that the question for the central bank is how fast to make policy more restrictive and that more restraint is needed.
Crude climbed. November WTI crude settled at 93.74, up 2.06 percent, and gold at 4,190.6, down 0.61 percent. The news feed carried at 2:02 PM ET to 2:14 PM ET reports of a warning in Riyadh, explosions heard and a ballistic missile destroyed by the Saudi-led coalition. At 3:02 PM ET it carried a British navy report that a crude tanker was struck by an unknown projectile in Hormuz. A Houthi statement followed at 3:03 PM ET, claiming an attack on Riyadh's airport. At 5:00 PM ET the President said, per the news feed, that the leaders of Ukraine and Russia have to meet and end the war. None of these was confirmed for this review.
Implied volatility rose. The Nasdaq-100 implied-volatility gauge closed at 20.84, up 0.29, and the volatility index at 15.21, up 0.37. The desk note put the volatility-of-volatility index at 85.93. It said near-term fixed-strike implied volatility rose one to two points for the week ahead of the macro releases, with at-the-money implied volatility for the week still between 9 and 11 percent.
The cash close slipped under one model line. The 5:22 PM ET Monday desk note carries Friday's closes in its reference column: 30,883 matches Friday's 30,883.15 cash close and 751 the fund's 751.27. That puts Monday's 30,664.70 close 335.30 points beneath the 31,000 gamma concentration. The same strike is the primary call-side ceiling. The close sits 210.30 beneath the 30,875 modeled volatility threshold and 91.70 above the 30,573 modeled gamma-flip level, with the 30,200 put-side base further down. Gamma tilt reads 1.30 for the index and 0.936 for the QQQ fund, with gamma notional of plus 8.821 million and plus 42.692 million. The note lists 31,000, 30,000, 31,500 and 30,500 as key strikes.
On the QQQ proxy the call-side ceiling sits at 760, the threshold at 751, the flip level at 749, the largest concentration at 740 and the put-side base at 700. The fund closed at 746.04, down 0.70 percent, beneath both of its own model lines and above the concentration. Its console, dated 2026-10-10 and built from Friday's close, showed call gamma of minus 525.05 million against put gamma of minus 2.06 billion, with 12.21 percent of gamma in the nearest expiration. Both gamma readings are negative. One-month implied volatility of 18.15 percent sits above realised volatility of 15.27 percent, with an implied-volatility rank of 22.12 percent. In the review's interpretation a cash close beneath the threshold but above the flip level, with the fund beneath both of its own lines, places the contract in a less dampened zone than on Friday. The threshold and flip level are model outputs, and neither is an option strike.
Activity eased. Volume slipped to 444,725 contracts from 487,752 on Friday. The open-interest column lags one session, so no change is asserted. The positioning report as of October 6, 2026 puts leveraged funds at 51,349 long against 70,561 short and asset managers at 111,727 long against 37,929 short. The desk note said traders unwound some upside exposure into a week with the consumer price index on Wednesday and monthly options expiration on Friday, October 16, 2026, per the desk note and unconfirmed.
The trade map for Tuesday
The primary setup is a short from 31,000 to 31,060. Monday settled at 12.1 percent of an outside-day range beneath the 5-day and 9-day averages. The cash close sits 210.30 points beneath the modeled volatility threshold, and the composite fell to 48 percent buy with direction weakest. The band wraps the Pivot Point at 31,010.58 and tops out 48.55 points beneath 31,108.55, the threshold equivalent. All of it sits above the settle. A fill there means price has climbed at least 101.75 points off the settle and still sits under the threshold equivalent, so the thesis is that rallies stall beneath that line. The targets sit at 30,870, 14.21 beneath the 18-day crossing price, 30,710, 21.92 beneath Pivot S1, and an extended 30,550, 15.58 beneath Pivot S2. Caveats remain. The 20-day and 50-day averages still rise beneath the settle, the long-horizon group reads 100 percent buy and the cash close holds above the flip level, so the review calls it an analyst judgment that rallies stall beneath the threshold equivalent, with no measured edge behind it.
Now the arithmetic. From the 31,030 midpoint the risk to the stop is 160 points, 35.2 percent of the 14-day average true range of 454.12. The targets sit 160, 320 and 480 points beneath the midpoint. Exact multiples. The settle sits 101.75 points beneath the band bottom and 161.75 beneath its top. The 6:22 PM ET quote widens the first gap to 108.50.
The scenario ranges are analyst judgment. The low-range case runs 30,732 to 31,177, the most likely 30,566 to 31,266 and the high-range case 30,444 to 31,352. Session by session the review expects roughly 30,700 to 31,060 through Globex, with a neutral to lower bias beneath the 31,108.55 threshold equivalent. London follows at 30,640 to 31,120, the morning at 30,600 to 31,180 and the afternoon at 30,560 to 31,200. At writing the Tuesday session had traded only from 30,876.00 to 30,901.75.
Tuesday's calendar starts early. A Federal Reserve governor speaks at 3:45 AM ET on artificial intelligence, and bank earnings begin with the largest bank's results at about 7:00 AM ET, as the calendar lists both. Existing home sales are listed at 10:00 AM ET, with regional Federal Reserve presidents at 10:00 AM ET, 1:00 PM ET and 4:00 PM ET, all per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Monday evening carries listings too. The President's remarks at 7:00 PM ET, Japanese producer prices at 7:50 PM ET, the Australian central bank's minutes at 8:30 PM ET and the International Monetary Fund's World Economic Outlook at 10:00 PM ET are all per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Chinese consumer and producer prices are listed at 9:30 PM ET Tuesday, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Then the week turns to chips and inflation. The European lithography maker reports at 1:00 AM ET on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, and the September consumer price index follows at 8:30 AM ET that day, as the calendar lists both. The leading foundry holds its conference at 2:00 AM ET on Thursday, October 15, 2026, as the calendar lists it.
One path is weighted. In the review's analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between Pivot S2 at 30,565.58 and Pivot R1 at 31,176.92, with chip shares and the dollar deciding the side. In that judgment a rally toward the 31,000 to 31,060 band that stalls beneath the 31,108.55 threshold equivalent is weighted above a sustained recovery. No measured frequency backs it. The alternative is a recovery in chip shares, or strong bank results that lift the broad market, carrying the contract through Pivot R1 at 31,176.92 toward Monday's 31,289.25 high.
Monday's open sat 247.25 points above the settle, and Tuesday's short band starts 101.75 points back up that slide.

The Nasdaq-100 cash close sits 210.30 points beneath the modeled volatility threshold at NDX 30,875 and 91.70 points above the modeled gamma-flip level at NDX 30,573 published in the desk note.
The Tuesday session opens with the settle beneath the 5-day and 9-day settlement averages and above the 20-day. The composite multi-indicator read fell to 48 percent buy from 80 percent buy, with direction described as weakest. The Primary Setup below is a short from the 31,000 to 31,060 band, around the Pivot Point at 31,010.58 and beneath 31,108.55, the December equivalent of the modeled volatility threshold, stopped at 31,190 above Pivot R1 at 31,176.92, with objectives at 30,870, 30,710 and an extended 30,550.
2. Price Action & Technical Structure
2.1 Intraday and Session Review
The Monday session opened at 31,145.50 at the Sunday 6:00 PM ET reopen, 36.75 points above Friday's settle, marked a daily high of 31,289.25 and a daily low of 30,844.25, and settled at 30,898.25. No complete intraday series was preserved for this session, so this review makes no claim about when the high or the low printed or about the path between them.
After the settle, the chart's 4:30 PM ET bar closed at 30,877.50; that post-settlement quote is not used as the settlement anywhere in this review. Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET, so the provider's displayed day open, high and low of 30,876.00, 30,901.75 and 30,876.00 belong to the new session dated Tuesday, not to Monday, and are not used as Monday's range.
The session extremes used here are the completed-session inputs behind the published pivot ladder and were not read independently from a bar, back-solved from the outer pivot pairs and verified against every rung. Pivot R3 at 31,621.92 minus Pivot S3 at 30,286.92, divided by three, returns 445.00, and Pivot R2 at 31,455.58 minus Pivot S2 at 30,565.58, divided by two, returns the same 445.00. Three times the Pivot Point of 31,010.58 less the 30,898.25 settle gives a high plus low sum of 62,133.49, one hundredth from the 62,133.50 of the solved pair because the published pivot is rounded, and the pair of 31,289.25 and 30,844.25 reproduces all seven published rungs. Independent corroboration: the provider's settlement row, the chart's completed Monday daily bar and the extremes of the captured Monday 30-minute bars carry the same 31,289.25 high and 30,844.25 low.
2.2 Daily Structure
Monday printed an outside day against Friday: the 31,289.25 high sits 22.75 points above Friday's 31,266.50, and the 30,844.25 low sits 108.75 points beneath Friday's 30,953.00. The settle at 12.1 percent of the range leaves an upper shadow of 143.75 points and a lower shadow of 54.00 points on the daily bar, with the settle 247.25 points beneath the open. The sequence of session highs over the last six sessions reads 31,371.00, 31,616.50, 31,521.00, 31,466.00, 31,266.50 and 31,289.25, and the sequence of session lows reads 30,957.50, 31,309.25, 31,143.00, 30,792.00, 30,953.00 and 30,844.25. Settlements over the same six sessions ran 31,317.75, 31,483.25, 31,402.25, 30,969.50, 31,108.75 and 30,898.25.
Last week, October 5 through October 9, spanned 31,616.50 to 30,792.00. Over five sessions the contract fell 419.50 points from the 31,317.75 settle of 10/05. The 52-week, 13-week and one-month high of 31,616.50 sits 718.25 points above the settle, and the one-month low of 29,053.00 sits 1,845.25 points beneath it.
No prior-quarter high or low was captured, so the 13-week extremes serve as the available quarterly reference.
2.3 4-Hour and Swing Structure
Daily ranges for the last eight sessions ran 622.25, 522.25, 413.50, 307.25, 378.00, 674.00, 313.50 and 445.00. The settlement changes over the same eight sessions read plus 61.75, plus 301.25, plus 256.00, plus 165.50, minus 81.00, minus 432.75, plus 139.25 and minus 210.50.
The retracement grid published for Tuesday places the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 30,637.24 and the 50 percent retracement of the four-week range at 30,334.75. No four-hour series was captured, so swing structure here rests on daily bars only.
2.4 Moving Averages
The averages cited in this subsection were computed from the provider's daily settlement series for the December contract, which holds 259 completed sessions through Monday. The 5-day average stands at 31,172.40, the 9-day at 31,077.86, the 20-day at 30,663.90, the 50-day at 30,153.27, the 100-day at 30,054.10 and the 200-day at 28,223.61.
The 30,898.25 settle sits 274.15 points beneath the 5-day average and 179.61 points beneath the 9-day, and above the rest: 234.35 points above the 20-day, 744.98 points above the 50-day, 844.16 points above the 100-day and 2,674.64 points above the 200-day. The 5-day average fell 83.90 points from Friday's 31,256.30, because the 10/05 settle of 31,317.75 left the window and was replaced by 30,898.25. The 20-day rose 72.44 points from 30,591.46 and the 50-day 44.20 points from 30,109.08.
The 20-day average sits above the 50-day because the last 20 settlements averaged 30,663.90 against 30,153.27 for the full 50, which means the 30 older settlements in the 50-day window averaged lower, at 29,812.85. The 50-day sits above the 100-day because the 50 older settlements in the 100-day window averaged lower, at 29,954.92. The projection grid gives the prices at which each average would be crossed on Tuesday: 31,125.25 for the 9-day, 30,884.21 for the 18-day and 30,181.05 for the 40-day.
2.5 Oscillator and Trend Readings
The oscillator figures below are as published on the provider's technical page dated for the Tuesday session and read after the 6:00 PM ET reopen; the page can substitute the live Globex price for the settle, so these readings carry that caveat. The 9-day relative strength reads 52.82, the 14-day relative strength 55.68 and the 20-day relative strength 55.90.
The 9-day raw stochastic reads 34.96 percent and the 14-day raw stochastic 42.98 percent, while the 14-day stochastic %K reads 54.97 percent and the 14-day stochastic %D 69.07 percent, so %K sits beneath %D.
The 9-day directional index ADX reads 23.01 with the 9-day +DI at 19.79 and the 9-day -DI at 19.27; the 14-day directional index ADX reads 17.98 with the 14-day +DI at 21.65 and the 14-day -DI at 18.88, so positive direction still leads narrowly on both. The 9-day historic volatility reads 11.29 percent and the 14-day historic volatility 10.96 percent.
The composite multi-indicator read published for the Tuesday session is 48 percent buy, down from 80 percent buy in the prior session's snapshot, with signal strength described as minimum and direction as weakest. The snapshot history reads 88 percent buy a week ago and 8 percent buy a month ago. The short-horizon group averages 20 percent buy, the medium-horizon group 25 percent buy and the long-horizon group 100 percent buy, and the composite trend indicator reads buy.
2.6 Volatility and Expected Range
The published 14-day average true range stands at 454.12 points and the 14-day average daily range at 444.07 points; the 9-day average true range is 448.90 with a 9-day average daily range of 452.17, and the 20-day average true range is 465.76 with a 20-day average daily range of 462.33. Monday's 445.00 point range was 1.00 times the 14-day average daily range.
Adding and subtracting the 14-day average true range of 454.12 points from the 30,898.25 settle frames Tuesday between 30,444.13 and 31,352.37. The published standard-deviation bands are narrower because they are built from five settlements: one deviation spans 30,638.52 to 31,157.98, two spans 30,530.94 to 31,265.56 and three spans 30,448.39 to 31,348.11. These bands describe settlement dispersion, not intraday reach.
3. Key Levels
3.1 Resistance
Above the 30,898.25 settle, the 3-10 day crossover stall price at 30,957.29 comes first, followed by the Pivot Point at 31,010.58, which anchors the setup band. The 9-day settlement average at 31,077.86, the 31,108.55 December equivalent of the modeled volatility threshold at NDX 30,875 and the 9-day average crossing price at 31,125.25 form the next band. One standard deviation resistance at 31,157.98, the 5-day settlement average at 31,172.40 and Pivot R1 at 31,176.92 follow, with the 31,233.55 equivalent of the largest gamma concentration at NDX 31,000, two standard deviations resistance at 31,265.56 and Monday's 31,289.25 high beyond. Pivot R2 at 31,455.58, the 31,616.50 52-week high and Pivot R3 at 31,621.92 are the extended references.
3.2 Support
Beneath the settle, the 18-day average crossing price at 30,884.21 comes first, followed by Monday's 30,844.25 low and the 30,806.55 December equivalent of the modeled gamma-flip level at NDX 30,573. The published target price at 30,783.30 and Pivot S1 at 30,731.92 form the next band, with the 20-day settlement average at 30,663.90, one standard deviation support at 30,638.52 and the 38.2 percent retracement from the four-week high at 30,637.24 beneath. Pivot S2 at 30,565.58 and two standard deviations support at 30,530.94 follow, with the 30,433.55 equivalent of the primary put side support base at NDX 30,200 and Pivot S3 at 30,286.92 beyond.
4. Macro Drivers
4.1 Mag7 Earnings and AI Capex Cycle
The news feed carried at 12:55 PM ET to 1:05 PM ET, citing a press report for part of it, that the largest social-media company introduced a larger class of artificial-intelligence models, released two models and signalled further spending. At 11:00 AM ET and 11:02 AM ET the news feed carried a new optics form factor from the leading chip designer and a networking company, and that the largest software company has moved into production on that networking company's silicon. At 3:34 PM ET, per the news feed, a chip maker said it began customer sampling of a new graphics processor line. Bank earnings begin on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, with the largest bank's results at about 7:00 AM ET, as the calendar lists it; the large-cap technology reporting season follows later in the month. These are statements carried by the news feed and were not confirmed as results.
4.2 Semiconductor Cycle and Tech Sector Rotation
The semiconductor index closed at 12,236.79, down 335.63 points or 2.67 percent, after Friday's 0.41 percent decline. The desk note said the semiconductor fund fell about 3 percent and the memory group about 4 percent, with the largest memory maker down about 4 percent, while energy, consumer staples and healthcare rose about 1 percent each. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.38 percent while the Nasdaq-100 fell 0.71 percent and the S&P 500 0.06 percent. The European lithography maker reports at 1:00 AM ET on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, as the calendar lists it, and the leading foundry holds its conference at 2:00 AM ET on Thursday, October 15, 2026, as the calendar lists it.
4.3 Fed Policy and Real Yields (Duration Sensitivity)
The cash Treasury market was closed for Columbus Day, per the desk note, and the ten-year yield index was unchanged at 5.24 percent. The dollar index stood at 102.59 as of 6:26 PM ET, up from Friday's 102.21 close. A regional Federal Reserve president said at 1:35 PM ET to 1:40 PM ET, per the news feed, that the question for the central bank is how fast to make policy more restrictive and that more restraint is needed. The consumer price index for September is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, as the calendar lists it.
4.4 Geopolitical Backdrop

At 5:00 PM ET the President said, per the news feed, that the leaders of Ukraine and Russia have to meet and end the war. These are statements carried by the news feed and were not confirmed as events.
4.5 Cross-Asset and Volatility
The Nasdaq-100 implied-volatility gauge closed at 20.84, up 0.29, and the volatility index at 15.21, up 0.37. The desk note put the volatility-of-volatility index at 85.93 and said near-term fixed-strike implied volatility rose one to two points for the week ahead of the macro releases, with at-the-money implied volatility for the week still between 9 and 11 percent. November WTI crude settled at 93.74, up 2.06 percent, and gold at 4,190.6, down 0.61 percent.
4.6 Institutional Positioning
Monday's volume on the December contract was 444,725 contracts against 487,752 on Friday. The open-interest column on the provider's settlement series lags one session (the 2026-10-09 row reads 279,610 and the 2026-10-12 row is not yet reported), so no open-interest change is asserted for Monday. The positioning report as of October 6, 2026, shown on the provider's overview, puts leveraged funds at 51,349 long against 70,561 short and asset managers at 111,727 long against 37,929 short. The desk note said traders unwound some upside exposure into a week with the consumer price index on Wednesday and monthly options expiration on Friday, October 16, 2026, per the desk note and unconfirmed.
5. QQQ Options Flow Context (Proxy)
This section uses the QQQ fund as the proxy for the positioning data available, alongside the index levels published in the same desk note. The desk note used for this section is the 5:22 PM ET edition for Monday. Its reference prices are the prior session's closes, not Monday's: NDX 30,883 equals Friday's 30,883.15 cash close and QQQ 751 equals Friday's 751.27 fund close, and 30,883.15 less 0.71 percent gives 30,663.9, consistent with the provider's 30,664.70 close. Every level below is read against Monday's 30,664.70 cash close.
On the Nasdaq-100 index the largest gamma concentration and the primary call side ceiling both sit at NDX 31,000, the modeled volatility threshold at NDX 30,875, the modeled gamma-flip level at NDX 30,573 and the primary put side support base at NDX 30,200. The 30,664.70 cash close sits 335.30 points beneath the 31,000 concentration, 210.30 points beneath the threshold and 91.70 points above the flip level. The note lists NDX 31,000, 30,000, 31,500 and 30,500 as key strikes. Gamma tilt reads 1.30 for the index and 0.936 for the fund, and gamma notional reads plus 8.821 million for the index and plus 42.692 million for the fund.
On the QQQ proxy the primary call side ceiling sits at 760, the modeled volatility threshold at 751, the modeled gamma-flip level at 749, the largest gamma concentration at 740 and the primary put side support base at 700. The fund closed at 746.04, down 0.70 percent, beneath both the 751 threshold and the 749 flip level and above the 740 concentration. The fund's positioning console, dated 2026-10-10 and built from the Friday close, showed call gamma of minus 525.05 million against put gamma of minus 2.06 billion, with 12.21 percent of gamma attributed to the nearest expiration. One-month implied volatility of 18.15 percent sits above one-month realised volatility of 15.27 percent, with an implied-volatility rank of 22.12 percent. The console's high and low volatility point fields are inverted and treated as low-confidence, so they are excluded.
At the measured closing basis of 233.55 points, the December settlement of 30,898.25 less the 30,664.70 cash close, NDX 31,000 corresponds to 31,233.55 on the December contract, the modeled volatility threshold at NDX 30,875 to 31,108.55, the modeled gamma-flip level at NDX 30,573 to 30,806.55 and the put side support base at NDX 30,200 to 30,433.55. These are conversions made by this review; the source publishes no Nasdaq futures pair, and the modeled threshold and flip level are model outputs, not option strikes.
In this review's interpretation a cash close beneath the modeled volatility threshold but above the flip level, with the fund beneath both of its own thresholds, places the contract in a less dampened zone than on Friday, and the 31,108.55 threshold equivalent is the level the setup in section 8 sells beneath.
6. Forecast
6.1 Night Session (6:00 PM ET Monday to 3:00 AM ET Tuesday, Globex and Asia)
Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET with the December contract quoted at 30,891.50 at 6:22 PM ET, 6.75 points beneath the settle. The President's remarks were listed at 7:00 PM ET, Japanese producer prices at 7:50 PM ET and the International Monetary Fund's World Economic Outlook at 10:00 PM ET, all per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed; the review's capture closed at about 6:27 PM ET, before those listed times, so they are recorded as listings only. Bias neutral to lower beneath the 31,108.55 threshold equivalent, expected Globex band roughly 30,700 to 31,060.
6.2 London Session (3:00 AM to 8:00 AM ET Tuesday)
A Federal Reserve governor speaks at 3:45 AM ET on artificial intelligence, as the calendar lists it. Bias neutral to lower, expected band roughly 30,640 to 31,120, with the 31,000 to 31,060 band the first meaningful resistance.
6.3 Morning Session (9:30 AM to 12:00 PM ET Tuesday, RTH Open)
Bank earnings begin before the cash open, with the largest bank's results at about 7:00 AM ET, as the calendar lists it. The cash open at 9:30 AM ET sets the session's first directional test. Existing home sales are listed at 10:00 AM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Expected band roughly 30,600 to 31,180.
6.4 Afternoon Session (12:00 PM to 4:00 PM ET Tuesday)
A regional Federal Reserve president is listed at 1:00 PM ET and another at 4:00 PM ET, both per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The cash close follows at 4:00 PM ET. Expected band roughly 30,560 to 31,200.
6.5 Night Session Forward (6:00 PM ET Tuesday)
The Wednesday session opens at 6:00 PM ET Tuesday. Chinese consumer and producer prices are listed at 9:30 PM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed, and the European lithography maker reports at 1:00 AM ET on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, as the calendar lists it.
6.6 Expected Range (Tuesday Full Session)
Low-range scenario: 30,732 to 31,177
Mid-range scenario (most likely): 30,566 to 31,266
High-range scenario: 30,444 to 31,352
6.7 Most Likely Path
In this review's analyst judgment the most probable path holds the contract between Pivot S2 at 30,565.58 and Pivot R1 at 31,176.92, with chip shares and the dollar deciding the side. A rally toward the 31,000 to 31,060 band that stalls beneath the 31,108.55 threshold equivalent is weighted above a sustained recovery, because Monday settled at 12.1 percent of an outside-day range, the settle sits beneath the 5-day and 9-day settlement averages, the cash close sits beneath the modeled volatility threshold and the composite fell to 48 percent buy with direction described as weakest. The alternative that would invalidate this reading is a recovery in chip shares, or strong bank results that lift the broad market, carrying the contract through Pivot R1 at 31,176.92 toward Monday's 31,289.25 high.
7. Tuesday Economic Calendar
Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET on Monday. The President's remarks were listed at 7:00 PM ET, Japanese producer prices at 7:50 PM ET, the Australian central bank's minutes at 8:30 PM ET and the International Monetary Fund's World Economic Outlook at 10:00 PM ET, all per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed.
On Tuesday, a Federal Reserve governor speaks at 3:45 AM ET, as the calendar lists it. Bank earnings begin with the largest bank's results at about 7:00 AM ET, as the calendar lists it. The cash session runs from 9:30 AM ET to 4:00 PM ET. Existing home sales are listed at 10:00 AM ET, and regional Federal Reserve presidents at 10:00 AM ET, 1:00 PM ET and 4:00 PM ET, all per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. Chinese consumer and producer prices are listed at 9:30 PM ET, per the news-feed calendar and unconfirmed. The captured calendars carry no large-cap technology earnings entry for Tuesday.
Later in the week, the European lithography maker reports at 1:00 AM ET on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, as the calendar lists it. The consumer price index for September is scheduled for 8:30 AM ET on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, as the calendar lists it. The leading foundry holds its conference at 2:00 AM ET on Thursday, October 15, 2026, as the calendar lists it. In this review's judgment the first-order influences on the Nasdaq-100 on Tuesday are chip-sector follow-through after Monday's 2.67 percent decline in the semiconductor index and the start of bank earnings at about 7:00 AM ET, as the calendar lists it, with Wednesday's inflation report the week's key scheduled event.
8. Primary Trade Setup
Direction: Short
Rationale: Monday settled at 12.1 percent of an outside-day range beneath the 5-day and 9-day settlement averages, the cash close sits 210.30 points beneath the modeled volatility threshold at NDX 30,875, and the composite fell to 48 percent buy with direction described as weakest; a rally into the Pivot Point at 31,010.58, beneath 31,108.55, the December equivalent of that threshold, offers a short with a defined risk point above Pivot R1 at 31,176.92. The 20-day and 50-day settlement averages still rise beneath the settle, the long-horizon composite group reads 100 percent buy and the cash close sits above the modeled gamma-flip level, so the setup is an analyst judgment that rallies stall beneath the threshold equivalent, not a measured edge.
Entry Zone: 31,000 to 31,060
Stop Loss: 31,190 (above Pivot R1 at 31,176.92 and the 31,108.55 threshold equivalent)
Target 1 (T1): 30,870 (14.21 beneath the 18-day average crossing price at 30,884.21)
Target 2 (T2): 30,710 (21.92 beneath Pivot S1 at 30,731.92)
Target 3 (T3, extended): 30,550 (15.58 beneath Pivot S2 at 30,565.58)
Risk-to-Reward: Approximately 1:1 to T1, 1:2 to T2, 1:3 to T3
Invalidation: A settle above Pivot R1 at 31,176.92 negates the thesis. Short of that, the edge is removed by acceptance above 31,108.55, the December equivalent of the modeled volatility threshold, and not by a touch, defined as two consecutive 30-minute closes above 31,108.55.
Macro override: A sharp recovery in chip shares, or bank results that lift the broad market, would invalidate the short in real time. In that scenario a move through the 31,190 stop removes the setup, and Monday's 31,289.25 high and Pivot R2 at 31,455.58 become the references within one 14-day average true range of 454.12 points.
Sources and methodology
This outlook is built from our session review of the December E-mini Nasdaq-100 contract, the December ’26 contract, prepared after Monday's close on October 12, 2026 for the Tuesday, October 13, 2026 session. Monday's open, high, low and settle come from the provider's daily settlement record for the December contract and match the chart's completed daily bar. Monday's completed extremes are also the inputs behind the published pivot ladder: Pivot R3 at 31,621.92 less Pivot S3 at 30,286.92, divided by three, and Pivot R2 at 31,455.58 less Pivot S2 at 30,565.58, divided by two, both return 445.00, and three times the 31,010.58 Pivot Point less the settle gives 62,133.49, 0.01 from the 62,133.50 of the solved pair of 31,289.25 and 30,844.25. Only those figures, the first and last 30-minute bars and the review's statements are used to grade Monday's card. No complete intraday series was preserved, so no claim is made about when the high or low printed. Globex reopened at 6:00 PM ET Monday, so the day open, high and low on the provider's overview belong to the Tuesday session.
The moving averages were computed from the provider's 259-session daily settlement series; the oscillators are cited as published for the Tuesday session, read after the 6:00 PM ET reopen. Volume comes from the provider's daily record: the 2026-10-12 row reads 444,725 contracts, and the 2026-10-09 row now reads 487,752 contracts and open interest of 279,610, where Monday's outlook carried 479,441 for Friday. The 2026-10-12 open interest is not yet reported. The desk note used is the 5:22 PM ET Monday edition, with Friday's closes in its reference column; every Nasdaq futures equivalent is our conversion at the 233.55 point measured basis, and Friday's 225.60 basis is computed from Friday's settle and cash close. The QQQ fund is a proxy read alongside the index levels; its console's high and low volatility point fields are excluded as low-confidence. The dollar index is an evening quote as of 6:26 PM ET, and its percentage, like those of the two volatility gauges, is computed. Scenario ranges are analyst judgment, and items marked unconfirmed come from the news-feed calendar, the desk note or press reports.
